Witty Punching Bag

Rhys gave her an expectant look, eyes squinting a little bit when she eventually answered with some level of hesitance. It wasn't really his thing, taking along someone who didn't want to be there, but she she agreed so he wasn't about to take back the invitation. At her suggestion he gestured forward, a "ladies first" sort of thing; a part of him wondered if she would try to get away at some point...

They passed by trucks that sold everything between smoothies and artisan butters--which caught his eye but he figured he could come back when he was on his own. They passed several before he heaved a sigh. "Less and less likely there'll be a burger truck," he said while looking on at the dwindling line of trucks. The man was fighting the urge to kick something in, which he suppressed into an incredibly irritated grumble. The hell kind of festival doesn't have a burger truck?! He'd been to a few...they all had at least one burger truck.

"Do you have something you wanted to eat instead of burgers?" he said as they passed another truck, eyes down at Chubbs and his still wagging butt. Clearly the pooch didn't care whether it was burgers or what; he just wanted food, plain and simple.

She did find it odd there were no burger trucks. Maybe there was one and they just couldn't find it in the crowd- that seemed more likely.

"Yeah it is weird," she told him, looking around. "There was a gyro one back there that looked pretty good?"

In a perfect show of maturity, Lucas stuck his tongue back out at Sunny, grinning after and continuing to meander with her against his side. "I don't assume anything is free, and if you're here to peddle your wares, you deserve to be paid. Plain and simple."

He shrugged at the next part. "It's my first First Friday." His tone was indifferent. "I am still healing and the idea of spending my time here running into people and sweating into my bandages is not appealing. I'll say hi to a few people and get the hell out of dodge."

There was a yell from one of the stalls that was set up, a blur of dark fur darting out from shadow to shadow and staying out of the direct sunlight.

"Damnit! THAT THING JUST STOLE ONE OF MY PIECES!" It was a young woman, flushed in the face, pointing at the quickly disappearing shape of ...

Was that a pine marten? A ferret? A weasel? What the hell?

"Someone catch it!"

Thorne snorted. "It's always worth a shot, you know," he said with mild amusement. "I've got to try to bend the rules where I can, and I'm not entirely above using others to do so." He threw her an amicable wink before turning to look at Leila and grinning as he did. He hadn't seen her in awhile, and now that she was here chatting up his best friend, it was hard not to be enthused.

"Hey girl," he called, "I see you've already hit it off with the cheese mistress. No matter what she offers you," he added as an aside to Maeve, "you are not allowed to show her any photos of me when I was ten." To Leila he added, "I don't think so. I should probably go introduce myself though, considering I spend enough time watching trash television with her wife."

Maeve scoffed at them both as she waved away Margaery and Hux, but her lips curled into a vivacious grin when she caught sight of Leila again. "It's a small world after all," she teased, throwing a curl back over her shoulder. "Well, if you insist... But at least let me treat you to a little something later on."

What that something was was completely up to Leila to figure out. But with the way Maeve looked, it probably wasn't anything completely innocent in nature.

And then someone was yelling, and everyone was looking up, and it wasn't someone dying but a - ferret? Weasel? Thief?

"You're up, cowboy," Maeve said, elbowing Thorne in the stomach and his laughter was full of sardonic amusement.

"Your wish is my command," he retorted before heroically throwing himself over the counter and running after the thief in an attempt to save the masses. Except that he forgot he was still healing and holy s**t, running for extended periods of time hurt like a b***h.

"Ow, holy s**t!"

This was how, even though there was a heroic start, there was definitely not a heroic save. Instead, about five seconds later, Thorne tumbled to a stop, landing like a pro on his back with a tiny shout of equally heroic failure.

"Cool, nice to know I wasn't imagining it." Falco confirmed, nodding. There was, he figured, only so many people with that kind of scar in town, but he'd had plenty of time to read articles on... ugh. everything. Including plenty of stuff on how your memory could play tricks on you. And play way more click games than he cared to think about. And Pokemon.

"I'm the guy with the giant cat. It's like a super power but with less awesome and more shedding." He joked.

Hot Lips could take offense later, she was kind of awesome but she also shed like crazy. And he still wasn't sure if she had an actual owner.

Susan perked at the sound of a woman screaming about stolen art. The plump woman whipped around, scanning the crowd for the thief. No one in her immediate vicinity, however, seemed too suspicious. The freckled artist shrugged. The cops would handle it, she was sure.

"What the hell?"

Now he kind of wished he had brought Hot Lips, or at least encouraged her to tag along, as there seemed to be some kind of animal on the loose, and he didn't think it was America's bluejay.

The sudden clamor and panic cut harshly through Leila's good mood, leaving her in its wake with frozen blood and a sickly pale complexion as her composure shattered and perception narrowed just enough that it took her an extra moment to piece together what was going on. She had already had enough of shadows, and things, and the pointless violence that came with them, that she was ready to drop everything and run back to Eve in the half second before she noticed Thorne was on the ground. "Holy ********," she hissed, before bounding over to check on him -- still looking a bit like she thought something worse had happened to him than simply overexerting himself and falling over. "You okay?"

Sorry, Maeve.

Thorne was panting faintly, his expression a mix of pain and amusement. He glanced up at Leila and his smile was self-pleased, like a cat that had tried. He gently propped himself on his elbows, wincing as he moved.

"I think I might have stretched the stitches in my attempt to be heroic," he admitted to her. "Nothing something sweet can't fix though."

A second wince.

"Maybe."

Gyros sounded pretty good in the wake of the lack-of-burger-truck tragedy that was playing his head (it wasn't exactly tragic in reality, so...), so he nodded his head and turned to let her walk ahead again.

"I've only have gyros once or twice be--" he said, though was cut off by someone yelling about catching...something. He turned his head briefly, brows knit together as irritation flared again due to the interruption. It wasn't a huge deal so he shrugged it off and let his gaze drift back to June. "Sorry. Uh, I've only had gyros once or twice before. Any suggestions?"

He didn't think much of the shouting - as long as the thief wasn't attached to a human body with claws, he wasn't too riled - glancing towards it all the same. "It's always something, isn't it -- ?"

And that was about the time he spotted his boyfriend keeling ******** -- " Lucas sighed and extracted himself from Sunny, trotting over to the fallen man and the woman that was trying to see if he was okay. "He's not okay and you shouldn't listen to anything he says otherwise," he advised the worried looking female, brows askew in judgment as he looked at the man on the ground. There was enough 'I told you so' in his face that he wasn't going to say it out loud, instead carefully bending and offering both his hands to Thorne.

"I thought you were doing a kissing booth, not a rodent chase."

"I wish I'd thought of a kissing booth," said Sunny reflectively. But she didn't want to go butting in on Boyfriend Time, since Boys Were Weird, so she brushed off her poncho and let Gloom do whatever it was Gloom did. If the little weasel found anything cool, he'd probably share it with her… probably. Likewise, if anyone needed her, they'd flag her down, right?…

"I was being heroic," Thorne retorted, staring up at Lucas. "Don't give me that look." His grin was amicable and warm. "It was very impressive until I fell down. Someone else will have to catch the - weasel... thief." Was that what it had been? Well. It had been something! Thorne shrugged and let Lucas pull him to his feet. patting himself gently to test if he'd done anything stupid, Thorne was pleased to find that other than a general ache and a reminder that his body wasn't healed fully (damndamndamn), he was fine.

"Enjoying the festivities?" He added to Lucas. "Maeve's been looking all over for a chance to get some lipstick on you."

Lucas grunted in response, wincing a little as he pulled Thorne up and helping him brush off, ignoring the twinge in his own bandaged chest. "Alright, hero, dial it down a few notches." His eyes turned from Thorne's face briefly to the woman, and then back to Thorne. "You're supposed to be helping Maeve. You realize she'll find a way to make you owe her for abandoning her like this."

Sighing, he clapped Thorne low on his back. "Other than running into two friendly faces, I'm still not so gung-ho on getting into crowded public spaces again. You better be having more fun than pulling your stitches." He adjusted the shirt over his chest, glancing around until he spotted the red-head. "Well, if she wants to kiss me, I wont keep her waiting." Lucas raised a brow at Thorne, clearly indicating who he'd rather kiss, but he wasn't going to begrudge his love his fun.
