A laughter filled the room, suddenly. A cold, disembodied laugh.
Of a familiar voice.
"You are all fools," the Code said lowly, voice a mere whisper amongst their voices.
But it was heard—in a strange, echoing way. The room seemed to chill, and the dark spots on this piece of the Code bubbled and twisted, like the haze of Chaos was trying to choke out what life was left of it.
"You understand so very little. Do you truly think it will take hand holding and well wishes to purge one thousand years of Chaos?"
There was a strange tone in the way the Code spoke, and while it shared the same voice as the piece on Olympus, on all their wonders, this one sounded darker. This one sounded like it was hurting. But it also sounded vengeful, and twisted.
Angry.
"No."
The Code had no eyes, and yet it seemed like the orb was peering into the souls of each and every Knight there.
It repeated, after a silent moment, "No. And you are too ignorant, too naïve to see what the solution is. You will waste your energy and destroy what is left of mine. And you have all failed me. You sacrificed me to save yourselves."

Paris yelped and fell backwards onto his rear as the Code spoke, scrambling backwards towards the knight who'd given him some reassurance previously- Celsus. "Uh- Uh." He started shaking as he stood and clutched the ashen skull that was his weapon in hand. "Sorry. Sorry I didn't mean to make it angry. I'm sorry." Looking to the code once more, Paris let out a final trembling 'sorry'. "I don't want to hurt it." Was muttered under his breath as he looked into the empty eye sockets of his skull. "I-" Pale blue eyes looked at the code once more. "I- I- I- I-" He gulped. " IwanttohelpbutIdon'tknowhowtoandIdon'twanttohurtyousohowtowehelppleasedon'tbemadIreallydon'twantyoumadatus." Paris looked on the verge of tears he was so anxious. It was clearly all his fault.

Celsus Knight of Chronos
He opened his mouth to answer Falias, Celsus turning to look at him - but before the words could make it out of his throat they were cut horribly, shakingly short.
The laughter made his nerves fray further, made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Celsus felt a horrible twisting sensation in the pit of his stomach, stumbling back a little as Paris knocked into him, his good hand rising to automatically clasp his shoulder. Beside him, Emrys' head snapped around, his brother looking frightened, staff clutched in his gloved fingers.
He'd heard the voice, of course. It had spoken to him at his own Wonder, reminded him of just how inadequate he was; and in spite of his constant attempts at remembering that it had been warped by Chaos, it was not so easy to forget the harsh, mocking tone.
You were a mistake.
"It's all right," said Celsus quietly to Paris now. He gave his shoulder a squeeze of reassurance. "It's not you, it's..."
He cast a glance at Chris, feeling a mixture of relief at his presence, as well as concern for his civilian identity and the churning guilt and shame of their last meeting, barring the Negaspace encounter (which hardly counted).
Celsus dragged his eyes away, focused on the frightened page in front of him.
"Hang in there," he murmured, and felt Emrys' presence like a balm to his heart.
A thousand years of Chaos.
"Well," said Celsus, after a moment, trying to keep his head level, though his voice shook, just a little, betraying the same self loathing he'd felt for weeks, months, that he was trying desperately to keep at bay. "We certainly have a mouthy Code."

Hy-Brasil, Page of Earth
After her little outburst, Hy-Brasil was willing to stand back and listen to the conversation at hand. There wasn’t much more she felt she could contribute considering how new she was to all of this and the fact she hadn’t been one of the ones that had retrieved the Code. Hell, she hadn’t even been involved in the whole affair that occurred. Still she was certainly on the side that was more eager to do something than wait and see.
And a voiced seemed to fill the room and, like many other, Hy-Brasil turned her complete focus upon the code piece. “A thousand years…” She said quietly more to herself than anyone else but her eyes shifted to Slieve who was beside her then to Celsus and Camelot.
“What do you mean we sacrificed you to save ourselves?” The words left her mouth before she realized she was even pondering the question and that’s when she looked to others around her wondering if any of them maybe had an answer. Who knew if the Code would bother to respond to her question? It didn’t seem all that forthcoming with information besides taunting them and making them feel inferior.
And hell, the Code had done a damn good job of making her doubt herself already. She certainly didn’t need to hear more scathing words.

Slievenamon, Squire of Neptune
At last, their rescued friend spoke, and immediately, Slievenamon felt her hackles stiffen ramrod straight. She clutched at her chest reflexively as if the rhomboidal crystal within was being carefully observed under a microscope. She suddenly felt intruded upon. Was this the power of Chaos? Or just the influence of the Code on the knights present? Either way, it intrigued her.
Still, its words stung. Too ignorant, too naive, failed. All words her father had pigeonholed when she would never follow his demands. Slievenamon swallowed thickly to keep her bearings in check.
Glancing at Hy-Brasil come her inquiry, she then followed after her with her own, "Do you... mean the Academy? When it fell? Or is what you talk of something that goes back years? Before any of us... When the Academy belonged to the knights of the past?"

"Well isn't someone bitter, " said the squire of Uranus who'd been silent through the talking. Oh yes, boohoo, punish the children for the sins of the parents blah blah. If Andronicus didnt already have a low expectation of their supposed unifying cosmic being, it would have been lowered by this.
That said, she couldn't blame it. She'd probably be really mad too if she'd been left for dead due to selfishness. She could see where the Code might be coming from. The Code couldn't scare her though, and she still miss trusted it.
"You need a pap, " she said, getting up and moving over to the corrupted piece to do just that: pap it square on the top. "So by left to die, essentially, you mean the fact Metallia took over the Academy and corrupted it, yeh? And our past selves forgot you because we didn't want to die or probably thought you already lost to Chaos.... or something. That the short of it? "

Babylon Knight of Mercury Babylon considered the Code for a long moment, as if trying to tease the solution to the riddle out of its swirling form. He recognized it might be a trick, some sort of Chaos-fueled self-destructive bent - but what if the solution really was in front of them, only they refused to see it? "What if we destroy it?" he suggested, glancing towards Hvergelmir in search of... some kind of reaction. "Before the Chaos can taint the other pieces. Cut off the foot to save the leg, sort of."

Aokigahara had been watching in a form of quiet bemusement as everyone pondered their options. Handholding and wishing seemed silly, but he knew enough folklore to know that sometimes...well, sometimes that was the way of magic. He wasn't ready to discount anything.
Mostly he was ready for a drink and some popcorn, to enjoy all this properly.
And then the Code had the temerity to speak, and it sounded just like it had on his Wonder, mocking him, and that had him out of his chair and on his feet, striding towards it.
"If you're so sure this won't work," he snarled, "then, o wise and mighty Code, perhaps give us some ideas for what will." He knew that there was no way a five-foot-four-inch Page was going to be all that intimidating, but damn it this was ridiculous.
"Or do you intend simply to mock and insult us, as you have for months?" He waved a hand, angrily. "If there is nothing to be done to save it, perhaps destroying it is the best option." He nodded to the Mercury Knight (Babylon) who had also suggested it. "A surgical amputation. Save the rest, before the infection spreads too far."

"We can at least let Camelot try!" It was the first time he had raised his voice this meeting, and he felt guilty and a bit cathartic at the same time, though he tried to catch himself before adding. "Unless someone knows what actually happened at the Academy, I wouldn't buy what it's selling either. It's Chaotic right now, and that thing squating down there in the dark will tell you whatever it thinks you need to hear to... to prey on your pain and anger. The broken and the angry make the best agents, because it's that much easier to justify yourself." His fists clenched for a moment, and he forced them to unclench, because it wasn't people standing here, it was himself, that he wanted to lash out at. "If we can't purify it, then we can risk destroying it, but we don't know what will happen then either!" What if it wanted them to destroy it? That was how it worked in a way wasn't it? Order was the builder, Chaos was the destroyer, ripping at the far seams of things and fraying them apart, ideally at the same speed at which they were built. Balance...

Hvergelmir exchanged a long glance with Babylon. She'd worried it would come to this -- once the Code started talking, started speaking to them with Chaos's voice, people could be quick to let their anger get to them. Quick to decide to excise the part of the Code that said upsetting things. "Wait," she said to Babylon and to the room at large. "The Code can't help that it's been infected with Chaos. This is an illness... It doesn't deserve our anger, it deserves our care. We don't know what striking against the source of our own power would do... But that's not all. If this Code piece came from the Academy, then it's not just any Code piece, it's special -- one of only two Codes pieces we know of that we all share the same connection to. The Academy and Olympus -- or sacred spaces, the hearts of our knighthood. This isn't just any piece -- and even if we and the Code survived destroying it, we'd lose the Academy forever. We shouldn't give up on one of our own, corrupted against its will, just because it isn't human. Research would serve us better than hasty action. "

Babylon Knight of MercuryBabylon shrugged. He wasn't mad - just putting ideas out there. "I mean, yeah," he said. "By all means. Let's try Camelot's thing. But let's not be overly sentimental here." He raised his eyebrows at Kairatos. "You went into the rift, same as I. Do you see anywhere in that place rising up out of the ground any time soon? The Academy was lost to us long ago. The best we can hope for is finding a new home for this piece of Code - not restoring it to its former one."

Chauvet Page of Cosmos
Chauvet nodded warmly, the edges of her eyes crinkling as she smiled at Emrys. She'd been ready to introduce herself in kind, but momentarily lost herself in the conundrum of 'do I use the name given to me for nineteen years or do I tell him the name pounding in my veins like a heartbeat'. She paused, her smile waning as she considered, but she only needed a moment to recenter herself and nod, raising a hand in greeting.
"My name's--" she began, only to make a choking sound the moment Camelot arrived. Everyone else had this sort of...light to them, something that made them effervescent and starlike and beautiful, but this one man was a galaxy all on his own, and she couldn't help but stare.
"--holy s**t," she finally managed to croak, turning to face the Royal Knight with wide eyes. He wasn't David Bowie in sparklepants, per se, but if she had to assign someone to be the Jareth of this crew, it would be this guy for sure. He had a crown and a cape--were they supposed to bow? What was the protocol for this? She looked to Emrys for guidance, even as the rest of the assembly began to descend into bickering.
But then the glowing thing at the center decided to speak, and her heart ran cold. Was it...supposed to do that? It seemed to particularly perturb one of the smaller members of their assembly (Paris), and she stepped forward to put herself between the boy and the offending spark. "Heyyyy," she cooed softly, leaning down to meet eyes with the Saturn page. "Hey, it's okay, this isn't your fault, we're all doing the best we can, okay?" She reached out to put a hand on his shoulder, as if a few affectionate pats could cure him of the anxiety in his eyes.iStoleYurVamps I hope this is okay if it's not just let me know, I can edit

Gevaudan knight of GanymeadeHe rubbed his temple a moment before looking across at the knight.
"That was not the Rift. No one on this side has access to the Rift. The Youma were called out of the Rift to protect the castle and stop us. The only access point to the Rift is a narrow tunnel with safeguards. So please don't call the outside of the castle the Rift." He clarified.
"I'm with Hvergelmir on this. Destroying a part of the knighthood right off the bat says you hold a zero tolerance for Chaos even if at its core it's on your side. I take a personal offense."
"I'd rather we try saving it than writing it off as bad by default because Chaos has been pumped into it for years. Maybe we should treat it as if it was a corrupted agent. It seems... Living and talkative."
"The Negaverse didn't destroy it. That should be some indication that even they see it worth saving and protecting. If it was fighting chaos off for this long, shouldn't we continue with this rescue than just getting it out of there and getting it out of the situation it is in. People did almost die to get it. If we wanted it destroyed w could have just left it. Would have made this entire rescue kind of pointless. We can be skeptical all we want but we don't learn anything if we don't try."
Do we need to vote in this?
