Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking That was the clearest answer that she was going to get. As diplomacy was thrown out of the window, Ambiance's next objective was to get clear the heck away from the dragon's mouth. A logical move, at least initially, was to get away from its head and certainly out of its line of sight. The tail would be something she would have to remember, too, because it was as mobile as any monkey's, though clearly stronger than that. Ambiance wasn't sure about the creature's intelligence, of whether it could speak but didn't care to or if it simply never learned how to speak. Neither of these things really mattered in the long run.
Ambiance hurried to get her feet underneath her. The hissing and cackling within the creature's throat was a terrible, terrible thing. It didn't happen in normal throats, and certainly didn't preceded waving steam that distorted the air about the creature's face. No no. Thou shalt not be touched by flaming fire, lest thou be burned and die an early death. That would be bad.
Once she was sure her feet wouldn't collapse, she sprung up and sprinted to get behind the dragon, hoping to go around it just out of reach of its claws. Her sword was out in front of her, counterbalancing her bag just enough, and causing her to look like a maniac, but appearances didn't matter in a life-or-death situation. The retelling was where stories made people sound epic and amazing. Forget what happened the first time.
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Getting behind the giant lizard probably wasn't the most brilliant idea she'd ever had. This was a creature that was used to killing, it seemed, and as such its reflexes were arguably sharper than its teeth or claws. It could certainly tell when something was behind it, and even so it watched Ambiance make her move as fire began jetting out of its mouth, so it definitely knew how to act: use the tail! It whipped and cracked at the stone beneath them, lashing deep scars and beating out tremors that vibrated the entire bridge. After about five of these the dragon had turned to face Ambiance again. This time it was charging, maw and claw ready.
Link was burning, high on the rock with wind and sun whipping up every molecule and daring them to hold their place. He kept going though. Eventually he saw it, the thing he came for, that which called his name from beyond the void: the Sword of Evil's Bane. So purely was it hewn that even the sun was cleaved in two by its perfect light. It reflected everything, and stood alone, waiting. Link's pace quickened and his eyes narrowed. He drew upon all his strength to make that last way up the icy rock. Bloodied hands, his bones bruised and fractured from the trials below howled for him to stop, and yet he struggled on. Soon he was standing over the blade. It was all he could see after the climb and taken the blood from his head!
His hand held a faint glow of the Triforce of Courage as he held it over the sword. A short sigh and the Hero reached for it, grabbing hold of its power with surprising familiarity. The rock it was in, held firm near the occulus, was tough. It didn't seem like it would be pulled out so easily, and yet Link was able to slide the sword out as though it was in a standard sheath. A few powerful strokes, which made a sharp shiink! as they cut the air, and Link thrust the sword skyward. He was so excited he let out a powerful shout...
HIIIYYEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!
The dragon paused. The entire world seemed to shake from the peak of Mt. Dragonroost down. From the caps around ice and snow tumbled furiously toward the flats below, and now on top of the world Link stood looking down on the battle below. Using the Dragon Glider, Link leapt from the dome and was now hurdeling toward the winged beast on the bridge.
They were pulled toward each other. Like a magnet, the strength of this pull was only increased as Link drew nearer to the dragon. It forgot all about Ambiance and took to the air to battle its fated opponent, its other half. And so it was a jausting match, as the dragon from stone met the Hero from Eldin midway between them. Sword and claw clashed, and Link found himself spinning through the air to restabilise himself. He did land, though, and gave a reassuring look to Ambiance, as if to say "let's roast this reptile!"

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Then, with all the splendor and blessing of the heavens behind him, Link took hold of the blade destined to be in his care and swooped down from the heights. Ambiance's only effort was to stay clear of the beast as best as possible. To be behind it was to save her from the fire, which she had no defense for. To stay distant from the tail... gave her a better chance of surviving that. Granted, her flailing had no great thought process or strategy behind it... and didn't grant much in the way of actually providing her with logical ways to defend herself.... it was very, very fortunate, then, that Link had hold of the blade he needed, and also that his arrival took the attention of the dragon.
The newfound confidence of the hero calmed her enough to help her begin thinking again. She smiled back to him, though her expression seemed more weary and tired because of emotional output, but she overcame this and turned her attention to the situation at hand. There was a dragon to take care of.... It had greater defense than traditional weapons would puncture, yet she couldn't sheath her own blade quite yet. Even if all it did was act as a small shield against incoming swipes, to have it in hand was better than to have nothing. Though, she found herself considering taking up use of a shield sometime in the near future. Perhaps when they got back to castle city. She could learn to use a shield there, maybe find a way to earn some armor, and do a lot of studying at any library that would let her linger.
Those were all plans for the future, though, assuming they overcame this particularly dangerous hurtle. She had to admit, Link's new skill with landing helped her confidence in him grow. Though, that might have been because he just looked cool.
Ambiance waited for an opening before trying anything bold or rash. She decided to pick up a rock to throw.
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Link flipped his new sword around in his hand a couple times, and the dragon roared--as one might expect a dragon to. Its jagged mouth hung open as it stepped toward the duo, the bridge trembling with each powerful step it took. There it was again. In the back of its throat, rising like some sunscorched tide, the fire which had threatened to swallow Link's shield was raging, stirring, again. Link's eyes narrowed, as if he was suddenly more sure of his shield with his destined sword at hand, and rushed to meet the blast half way.
Food for thought: the Dragon Glider proved to be at least somewhat useful in combating the beast; was the Dragon Fan also meant to be used in such a way? Was there more to the name than just description?
Link looked back, sweat now pouring out of his face. His face was intense, but lacking in confidence. It said, "I need help!" Like before he was locked in a temporay slatemate with the huge reptile. Ambiance had the power to turn this battle on its head, but would she figure out in time?

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Perhaps it was the encouragement in the moment that helped to clear Ambiance's mind so that she could actually think clearly. Swords and conventional weapons were useless. That was demonstrated beautifully back in the cave... Ambiance built up the nerve to put away the sword. She would hurt herself with it before the dragon was ever damaged with it.
The effort was a bit more difficult because something else was in her hands. Her attention went to it, at first a bit annoyed, but then she remembered what it was. The artifact. The fan. Then... a new thought came to her. If conventional means didn't work, something else needed to be tried out. She held a hurricane in her hand.
Oh yes.
With an almost eager grin, she flipped open the fan, set her stance, and then beat the object against the air, willing the wind to cooperate and lash at the dragon.
"Incoming!"

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Link found it hard, not to mention confusing, to brace himself on two sides. One look at Ambiance's face as she saw the power in her own hand made him wince with anticipation. On his shield hand, his palm was sweat, his knees were weak, and his arms were most likely heavy from the amount of work he'd been doing--what with the climbing and all--but even so he appeared calm and ready...
Ice water in his veins, the boy from Eldin literally had the wind at his back now. At first it pressed him into the heat of the dragon's fiery blast, but as the wind picked up soon enough the fire too was batted back its launcher with impressive force. It clung to the dragon's face, and the beast shook his head and reared back.
Link didn't hesitate. As soon as he felt the heat leave his forearm he rushed at the beast with all he had. The Hero wasn't quite the swordsman he should have been at this point, but that didn't seem to matter too much as he assailed the dragon with powerful strokes of a sword which apparently could, unlike the others, damage him. Side to side, up and down, Link painted broad splatters across the dragon's chest, taking smooth scales off as he went. He would only be able to get a handful of these powerful blows in before the dragon was snapped back to reality; Link was smacked, and ohp there went gravity.
The winged terror took to the air then, and Link, reeling, eyes unblurring, knew what he had to do. He landed near Ambiance, and he looked terrible. Clearly this was the limit of what he could do. If she had anything to help him, this would be the time to do it. Otherwise Link was going into the fray half-punchdrunk with only a half-baked idea to go on. Meanwhile the dragon was circling their little strip of land like a shark in the sky, ready to devour them but first showing them how ill-equipped they were by mother nature.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking It was exciting and terrifying to see the hero in action. The heroic sword that was drawn from the mountain did damage to the great beast. The wind had buffeted the dragon and smothered him with his flames, which had given the hero the opportunity he needed to lash out. Yet, the dragon only wanted to take so much. The dragon snapped back and leapt off of the ice-fringed rock, sensing that it was no longer safe on the ground where the hero was.
Ambiance, in a natural and sudden worry, knelt by his side. This new and rather potent sense of urgency with the situation encouraged her to action. She set the fan down, ready to scoop it up at a moment's notice, as she needed her hands to play a song. The ocarina that hung around her neck was gathered into her hands. She cleared her mind just enough to focus on a song. Revitalization.
The notes wafted on the mountain air, but unlike some notes that drifted mindlessly out and away from its source, it seemed that this song chose instead to dance around them. From the air came energy. Energy was life. It was a simple song at its core. Then again, the essences of reality were also simple. What complicated reality were other things. Philosophers, science, puzzles, and experiments that sought to understand the core that, really, was easy to understand. As soon as the song reached its conclusion, she would pick up the fan once again.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════So strange it was to hear such a soothing melody; even stranger, for those who didn't believe in magic, was it to see someone being reinvigorated by such a thing. At the top of the world, where stakes literally couldn't be higher, this was simple pattern was the motion of fate.
But it couldn't last long. The dragon had been circling, and about half way through Link's healing decided to come end the two adventurers, turning them from legends into rumors. Link dipped out and ran along the bridge. The dragon, having eyes for revenge, followed.
Link was about half way to the other side of the bridge when he looked back to see how futile running was. The dragon was right on top of him! If he didn't do something fast, he was going to be dinner for sure. A quick thought and out came the wings.
Off the side he went. Ambiance would find herself feeling a little awkward--maybe--just standing there. After a moment the two could be spotted off the side of the mountain; Link flying as fast as physics would allow him, the dragon subverting all reason in his speed to catch him. The Hero turned around and slashed at his pursuer as best he could: to no avail. All that came of it was a spinning and a loss of altitude.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Before the calm of the song could really sink in, the adrenaline was again lit and they were in motion again. Link was on his feet and running. The dragon pursued his steps with violent energy. Then, they were both away, having taken to the air. Ambiance watched from the relative safety of the mountain rock, though she saw the event take a turn with Link spinning out of control. The glider, meant to glide, was not designed to make sudden turns. There was no rudder or tailfin for that. ... Not that Ambiance would understand that concept. However, she did recognize that Link was not a bird.
She lifted the fan again and summoned the winds to her aid once again. She willed the fan to send a strong enough current to stabilize Link's flight pattern. Though... she found herself also hoping that it would buffet the dragon, if only just. She anxiously watched, sharply aware of how she couldn't control the outcome. Darn.... now would be a great time to have a bow, or some ranged... then again, did she really want a weapon in hand when she had a fan that created hurricanes? This consideration banished all other concern about weaponry.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Link spun and flailed through the air, much like he'd done before when Ambiance hit him with her hurricane, but eventually regained his barrings and was able to use the added momentum to lift himself higher. The dragon took a dip in altitude for a moment, flapping to regain speed and level itself on the Hero. Link had turned again, and the jousting match continued. Since both were caught in the blast there wasn't much advantage given to either; so when Link and the dragon of the mountain passed they were still on relatively equal footing. If Link was going to do this, he was going to need carefully timed boosts and disruptions from Ambiance.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking She probably should have seen that coming. After her panic attack faded, she turned the fan in her hand and watched the two go at it. She watched and worried, and... when he wasn't tumbling over himself, she beat the fan against the air, but this time not doing so when he was already tumbling...
There was a pattern to this... certainly not by flapping madly like a dying pigeon. .... Ah! The wind was intermittent...? Would that help? Besides, an established pattern would keep Link aloft and in the fight.
Worth a shot! She beat the air with the fan, coaxing the wind to action once again. Then, she followed it again with another burst of wind.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Now this was working! The way Ambiance was timing it, Link was getting his boost and was able to stay aloft, while the dragon was disrupted. A couple passes like this, Link being the victor, and the dragon was looking less deadly. The last pass was really something. Link was able to somersault backwards over the dragon and fly behind it, chasing it how he had been a moment ago on the bridge.
Whipping its tail in vain at the Hero, the huge lizard was pushed to a slender spire off to the side of the bridge. Link came to land on the rock path on the opposite of Ambiance. The dragon was furious, hissing and howling to crack the sky. Afterwards it took to flight again, this time hovering over to the middle of the bridge and then with a powerful stomp started a chain reaction of crackling that would eventually bring down the stretch of rock.
It was only a matter time before the two would be completely separated. Link, being the hero he was now becoming, ran part way across the crumbling bridge and flung himself at the dragon, latching onto its back and carving its hard scales with red lines. They were swallowed by the clouds beneath the bridge. Screaming and roaring, and soon no sound at all came from the abyssal drop below...

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking The fight seemed to be looking up. It was getting better, Ambiance felt, and with the assistance she felt her confidence grow. Then there was a turn as the fight went out of the sky. The bridge rocked and groaned under the stress of the fight. Ages had not prepared it for this skirmish. The dragon lashed out and struck the fragile bridge. The rocks that held this rickety bridge splintered and threatened to cast the both of them to the ground far below.
Ambiance felt a tension in her heart that clawed into her throat as Link charged across the bridge and at the dragon. The bridge cracked and finally broke, losing all of its support. The sounds of battle fused into snarling screams as they fell through the air, though pillows of fluffy water, and so quickly out of sight.
"LINK!" Ambiance mindlessly cried after him and scrambled for a view, but with the crumbling rock, she could not confirm that it was safe to approach the edge. She listened to the fading sounds. As long as there was noise, she could be sure that there was...
But then, there was nothing as the sounds faded to be too far away, or more likely, that something had interrupted the fight. Was it over? Did Link simply succeed? Don't crash.
She swallowed and continued to search for a safe way to scan the frosted cliff.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Sometimes you just can't make it down the mountain. In fact, some say that it's the tougher part of an excursion. Link had himself a tough decent, to say the very least. He was becoming one of those stories of travelers whose bodies were seen in the springtime, perfectly preserved; as if to stand as one of the only murders which could be solved without minimal digging, and the culprit was always innocent, so there were no charges, no case, no "we'll find him, ma'am..."
Speaking of finding him. Ambiance had a job to do. Along the side of the cliff, which spat rocks down into the pit of dead dragons like some clever fratboy on top of a bridge might tag cars with a drop of saliva, was a series of jutting rocks and some ice-stalactites. It wasn't pretty or inviting, but this wasn't some red carpet event, and right now Ambiance was no celebrity. She might be afterward, but I digress. A little confidence and some determination could go a long way, and with a shining star on the ground, the reflection of the sun on the Master Sword, she would find the Hero; the only question was if she could do it in time.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Sensing that because Link didn't heroically swoop into sight or call up to her, he was probably down there. Hopefully the powdered snow was thick enough for a cushy and soft landing. ..... But Ambiance only ever knew snow that frosted in the mountains and the plains... She lived so close to the sea that snow never fell very heavy there.
In the sense of urgency that grew, she struggled to think clearly. She frantically thought beating the air with the fan would help but a logical whisper also told her that she might well have made the situation worse by speeding a descent to the ground instead. She moved the fan to her bag and tightened the strap to herself to keep it from slipping. She never did that much rock climbing... and when she did, it was with the gorons who were very aware of her trepidation when it came to heights. If you were tied to a person of the mountain, you did not fall.
Ambiance finally did catch sight of the sword in the light. There wasn't movement that she could tell... not at this moment. She closed her eyes, hurriedly swallowed her fear, felt it suddenly replaced with anxiety, and then she began the descent down the mountain.
She wanted to just be down and on the ledge... Skip the slowly finding footholds and places where she could hold herself up. Just don't think about slipping or falling...!
Her foot gave way and she squeaked and as a result every other muscle engaged in holding to the mountain tensed to support the sudden loss of the footing as she scrambled to get it back. Once she did, it took her a second to get her nerves, but she did so and continued the descent until she reached the ledge. At the last five feet, she gave up and just jumped, to fall and collapse onto the ledge.
Okay, she didn't want to do that again, but being on any surface that was flat enough to support her without the need to cling to something was encouraging enough. Kneeling by his side, she took hold of the hero's green jerkin.
"Link?" She swallowed again. Why was her mouth suddenly so dry? "Hero?"
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile
