Starting out, Crimson had no idea what it was that they was exactly supposed to be doing, after all at most they were only sort of half listening when told to report to any place. Anything that took them from their testing on samples was to the reaper, fairly boring and or useless. Going outside to snow and cold and told to represent the reapers was only half within their desired spectrum. As far as they were concerned it was just another power play show by the school and for the students a lot of posturing. Not a thing to garner any real results. These so called courses only tested a small spectrum of attributes and did not have a great way in terms of how to measure. It was all arbitrary and not concise or precise.

Walking to the skis, Crimson was left confounded. What did they do with these? Hit others? Make a cross? Walk in them? It wasn't until they saw what others were doing that the reaper caught on and realized they were a mode of transport. Granted, a less than ideal, but effective. Strapping them to their feet, the blood mage started out in a scoot, slowly gaining speed and momentum before they were gliding across the snow. It was a bit, (actually a lot) scarier than Crimson was keen to admit. They had hardly any real control and it was mostly by luck that they did not end up crashing into anything as they made their way down. Overall, they just wanted it to all be over before they even got to the second part. This was fast, too fast for them. And fast was not good, they couldn't even speculate on the probabilities and number crunch on what was going on. Plus- Looking back, their familiar was left frantically chasing after them, trying to catch up. Blood drops falling all over as the poor buck was left bleeding in snow, a thing they disliked in general but now, it looked like someone had commit murder and was fleeing a crime scene. Coving their mouth, Crimson was mortified. This was all wrong. This testing was not scientific and it was wrong and their familiar was going to be so mad at them why had the school wanted them to do this couldn't they understand some reapers had very slow familiars?

Oh.

Without realizing they had come to a stop, Crimson was left standing in skis at the bottom just sort of half watching their ally and companion catch up. When the buck finally did, they laughed. Much to the fallow deer's dismay. This was no laughing matter. They had almost been left behind than how would have Crimson done any magic. It was a fair enough point.

Making their way to the next portion, Crimson just shoved their familiar on the ice, quickly grabbing the buck and riding them.
Their familiar did not appreciate this and made a lot of distressed noises, their open wound spraying blood around them as they skated across the ice, floundering and only getting across due to the fact that the buck had the knowledge on how to not crash. hooves might have been good for basic snow but ice? Once off the ice, The deer snorted, and proceeded to pummel the blood mage for their insolence. It had been uncalled for and the mage had ridden him. It was a capital crime. So as when Crimson started to flee, it was no surprise that they kept tripping up only to get a hoof to the face or only body part. It was only at the crawling portion they escaped their familiar's rage.

Crimson hated this so much.

Stage 1
You very nearly complete a perfect run! If would have been perfect if it hadn't been for that vindictive jerk, Buddy the Snowman.

Stage 2
You're several hurdles in when a classmate's tail or wing whaps you off course, hindering your progress!

Stage 3
STOCKING'D!

Stage 4
Were you not being so careful, you might have finished things a little quicker. You also might have faceplanted. As it is you're doing pretty good!

Stage 5
You're doing okay! It's a little tough after everything you've been through today, but not any worse than you expected.

Everything about the course looked legit, nothing was terribly out of place about it. Swinging objects, giant slopes, Elves peeking from behind bushes waiting to attack. In all honesty it looked like one of Red's courses but with less pointy bits, landsharks, and nightmares. It was festive really which, well duh, of course it is.

Sammy was ready to go right up until they handed her ski's "Uh... the jack are these?"

"Ski's miss! You'll need those to get down the hill! Strap up chop chop!"

Sammy stared at the tiny elf flames flickering as an eyebrow slowly started to raise. Her next question was cut short by a small swarm of elves shoving her onto her back side sticking the ski's on and strapping them to her boots before they piled up like building blocks to shove her back up.

"The J-AGHF!"

Sammy had been on her feet all of a second before the race started, a giant block of ice smashing into her back sending her down the slope with little warning. Granted by some grace of luck she managed to stay on her feet watching a few others roll face first into the snow. Wobbling and wiggling about she started down the hill trying to keep a steady pace as the idea of going fast and into a tree sounded less pleasing then simply losing in general. She had been doing good till a demon shot by slapping her leg with his tail causing her to tumble and slow even more just at the end.

"Oh you cheapskate b*****d..." She snarled as she snapped the ski's off her boots. "H-HEY MISS YOU CAN-" The elf was cut short as chunks of candy cane colored ski's where tosses at the poor elfs head as Sammy sprinted towards the the twisted pile of branches. "Ice huh?" She took a running leap hitting the icicle bar, bounding into the twisting maze of hurdles and ice. Heavy boots weighted her down as she stomped leaving tiny cracks in the ice before bounding over the hurdles. Some she vaulted, others she leaped. A few she even might have cheated by sliding under when they where high enough.

The next stop was a balance beam, twin sacks of red swaying back and forth. For a moment Sammy stood there debating the best option. She watched the motion of the stockings waiting... waiting... NOW! She started off in a sprint boots thundering across the wood rattling the students ahead but low and behold a larger monster was taking his sweet time. "Oh come on come on come on you guys have like 50 plus contestants and I get the slow one in front of me?"

The moment she cleared the beam she gave the larger monster a shoulder nudge as she started past scowling back at him. Turning back she saw what looked like.... well it looked like a tire course but with green wreaths? Oh please. Red's gym class they would be on fire probably. Without missing a beat she high-legged her way across without breaking a metaphorical sweat.

Finally, the ending. A group of pines lined the way, branches hanging low demanding that one wiggle through the ground to get by. That was slow, clumsy, really, really, dumb. "Jack that.... if I crawl it'll take forever." She watched a few students snagged by branches and lifted up. Running would be tough.

"Screw it, I dodged lightning, I can dodge a tree." There was just a moment of hesitation, a flicker of purple fear lingering as she dashed into the trees crashing into the moving branches, maybe it was more then speed and some bit of brute strength? She felt them pushing pulling trying to lift her. Sammy didn't stop she kept twisting, tumbling and pushing through pumping every bit of FEAR she could into her legs leaving flickering glows of purple flames as she pushed her way through. She was almost there, almost....

"FFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCK!" She howled as a rather large pine caught her by surprise catapulting her up, not backwards, but forwards out of the tree line slamming her face first on the other side of the finishing line.

Not exactly her best showing at the end...

Arrakis hadn't skied in quite a long time, so the notion of it did unsettle him just a bit. But the keys of skiing were balance and timing, which he did have experience in, so he used that to steel himself as he waited for the start. He would try to cut to the outsides, where he might have to move faster, but would probably have fewer people to worry about crashing into, but then he would have to worry about crashing into the po-

Planning was moot as the icicle crashed down and sent them all down the hill, though Arrakis did at least attempt to salvage what he'd formed of his plan. He ducked and dodged what was being thrown his way, though some of them very nearly hit their mark, and he felt more than one bit of snowman smack his hair. There was an exhilarated grin as he rounded one of the last corners, and perhaps getting ahead of himself was why that one last snowman was able to score a hit. Arrakis spun around once, twice, before scrambling across the finish line and trying not to stop himself with his face versus the second icicle.

He was honestly glad to have the skis gone, scrambling noticeably less when trying to move without them strapped to his feet. Balance was going to be even more key here, right? He didn't have a whole lot of experience with jumping around on ice--ice skating had never been his thing, honestly--but it could be worse, right?

Well, it wasn't worse than the skiing, but it certainly wasn't any better. Arrakis felt more than a small bit ungainly as he made his way over the ice course. He didn't hurt himself too badly, nothing more than whacking his shins in ways that were sure to leave fantastic bruises later, but at least he didn't fall on his face. Able to at least keep his balance throughout the course, Arrakis was only windmilling his arms a little bit when he reached the next segment.

A balance beam! Now, that was more his speed! Granted, he had never had to walk a balance beam with large stockings threatening to knock him off, but there was a first time for everything, right? He hopped from one foot to the other, trying to figure the timing and pacing of the swinging stockings. The red started to hurt his eyes a bit against the backdrop of snow, so he figured that he should probably get a move on. No time like the present, and at least the snow was soft-looking if he got knocked off or anything.

To his pleasure, he was able to maintain his balance despite the ice and snow on his feet and the stockings. His speed was significantly hampered, but Arrakis tried not to let himself be too frustrated by it. Nothing would be gained by poor sportsmanship, after all, and it would just be a jerkish thing to do in the first place to push the other student off so he could proceed. So Arrakis paced himself behind the slower student, watching the stockings to make sure said change of pace didn't throw off his timing calculations. He was able to make it to the other end in one piece.

It was like the next part of the course had been made for him, and the broad grin that stretched across his face reflected his eagerness to try it. Arrakis could almost hear his parents chiding him to watch and make sure he didn't break an ankle, but he couldn't help throwing himself at the course. For some of the tires, the length of his legs in relation to his body was enough to get him through without any trouble. For the larger tires, he focused intently on timing small jumps to avoid tripping over them. Regardless, he couldn't help a whoop of laughter as he sped through it, clearly enjoying himself.

Arrakis nearly dove to the ground for the next obstacle, still running on the high from doing so well on the wreath course. He only paused to shove his braided hair down his shirt, to avoid getting it caught on the branches, but that delayed him a negligible amount that he was more than able to make up for once actually mid-crawl. Arrakis got a rhythm going, shimmying across the snow on his belly, squinting through the snow on his glasses, keeping his head low. The result was a rather fast pace that soon had him getting to his feet on the other side, breathless but exhilarated.

He took the items handed to him, thanking the givers, giving a somewhat self-conscious wave to the people who were watching the competition before scooting out of the way of any competitors coming out behind him.

The house cup this year was a rather snowy one, TK noted, and that suited the boil just fine. Compared to last time, this was the preferred climate for physical competitions. He could still remember the rather heated race from last time, and the skeleton almost shuddered at the thought. No matter.

Except he wasn’t feeling too confident about these skis, and considering the school’s history of being well, surprising, TK was sure they were going to try funny this time too.

He felt a force from behind, and he silently told himself ah, here it was and did his best to regain his balance while simultaneously sliding down the hill, which wasn’t going quite according to plan. He was thankful that at least he didn’t fall down, but he definitely wasn’t off to the greatest start.

As the undead slid onto the next stage, TK hummed thoughtfully as he easily jumped over the hurdles. It was a good thing the hurdles were all relatively the same height—this meant that his tall height was an advantage this time around. He managed to pass by some of the other competitors, but he was still rather behind.

Contrary to his expectations, the boil managed to hop onto the balance beam with ease. The beam itself was thicker than he thought it would be, but considering the swinging stocking perhaps that was a given. He tried to duck at the appropriate times and managed to zoom through this portion of the obstacle course as well.

As he continued to run, TK tilted his head at the sight of the next stage. What…was that? Was he supposed to jump through this? He slowed down a bit to gain his bearings, but managed to go through all of the wreaths. Eventually.

A strong finish was important, but crawling was a bit, well. He would try. Again, contrary to his expectations TK managed to speed through the finale to move past the finish line.

A race! A race! Alecto loved races!

But she also hated the snow.

“NooOoOoooO!” she howled sadly, clawed hands holding onto her ski poles as she stared woefully at the obstacle course. Could she just use her natural abilities to melt all of the snow away? The demon let out another howl as the race started and she was unceremoniously pushed down the hill.

Having decided she really didn’t like skiing, Alecto gladly pushed them off her boots and gleefully raced toward the hurdles. Even with the snow and ice, the hellhound managed to hop over the hurdles, one after the other.

Even the balance beam seemed quite exciting. She let out an excited bark as she leapt onto the beam and tried to run as fast as she could across toward the next section. Unfortunately, she started to run too fast and nearly fell off, but her claws managed to dig into the beam so she could scramble back on and sheepishly continue with the race. Oops!

The wreaths weren’t exactly too great either. At some point, the crowd might see a few wreaths set on fire as the canine unexpectedly used her ability, but hey, at least she made it through eventually, right?

For better or for worse, Alecto managed to trudge past the finish line with her tail between her legs. Speed just wasn’t her thing, she supposed.

There was a look of uncertainty on the cat’s face as she stood at the top of the snowy hill, it wasn’t that she had fear of snow or skiing or anything of that, it was the fact that snow didn’t seem to stay very much like snow around her. At least there were ski’s that she could stand on, which sort of was like sticks in her mind when she looked down on them. Would they even work? Her ears twitched as the bells rang and before she could even figure out where they came from something from behind and shoved her down the slope.

So far so good, Kier sort of just clung to her ski’s as she hunched forward trying to keep her tail from flailing off into the wind and her ears pressed to her head when the sharp cold dug nipped. There were other students everywhere, and snowman tossing something dangerous knocking someone in front of her. Kier swerved just in time to miss them but not quick enough to avoid being cut off by someone in green.

“Hey hey RUUOODDEEEE.” The black cat shook her fist as the other turned out flashing tongue and took off.

The rest of the slope went rather uneventful as Kier came to a rather abrupt stop at the end almost smacking face first into the oversized icicle. Next up was a maze of branches growing out of the ground with various icy looking surface. Not exactly something she was looking forward to but as a cat it was somewhat easy as she kept mostly on her feet leaping over with some sort of grace. There were a few times that she almost fell, but Kier managed to make it look as if it was planned more so than sliding across a surface and managing to stay on her feet at least. There was even once where she had to use her tail to keep her upright, but could have been worse.

Reaching the end of the treacherous hurdle maze ice trap, Kier wasn’t really afraid of heights, or not being able to balance, it was the more of the fear of maybe setting the entire balance beam on fire before she made it across. So instead of running it, the ghost cat simply inched along, her nails digging into the sides as she tried to scoot a little faster pass the swinging oversized stockings. The whole inching along didn’t really make a lot of sense but it happened, she made it through, and now there was something else. Maybe something better next.

It wasn’t, Kier frowned staring at the fir wreaths that were blanketing the ground, of course trees she had to run through instead of climbing over them. Despite her grace from the hurdles earlier, Kier didn’t make it very far, instead she spent a lot more of her time sort of crawling along and with some sort of luck managed to make it out at the end and beat a few of the other students.

The last part of the obstacle course, Kier groaned, more crawling for her of course she should have known as flopped down to the ground and started the grueling task of moving under the branches. It would have been so much faster for the cat if she could have just leapt from branch to branch instead of being on her hands and knees. Would have been a lot less pinecones stuck to her long tail too.

Finally, the finish line, of course she wasn’t first not that Kier was going to complain when someone gave her a candy cane and medal, she at least had some time to lick her wounds before the next dooming event.

Section One
Marcy, the cute little poltergeist who had decided to go with a pale cream dress today, in the spirit of the snow, stood at the beginning of the course and ready to go. No floating through this. Just her own two feet.

Well, two feet and skis. Marcy wasn't really sure how she felt about skis. They were... a little cumbersome. Made it hard to walk. So she was glad that the course was going down. She could just slid her way down, right? No need to run here. Right. Marcy clapped her hands and nodded to herself. She had this. She could do this.

She was not ready for that push that sent her sliding down the hill. She was not ready to go uncontrolled down a hill on skis she'd never worn before. She flailed and leaned down determined to give it her best go. She could do this. She had to try... A fistful of snow hit her smack in the face and Marcy found her balance didn't even know what to do with that. She fell, tumbling end over end down the slope. She didn't even pass through any gates before she rolled to a stop.

Section Two
When she finally found herself at the bottom of the hill, it was nothing short of a relief. No more skis, no more rolling down in the snow. Marcy brushed herself off quickly and then looked at the the new task before her.

Ah. Okay. Running. She could run. She knew that. Running and Jumping. Sure. Had to be easier than trying to slide down a hill instead of roll down it. "I can do this."

Marcy took off, starting out at a sprint. The ice was wet and cold under her feet, and she wondered for a moment if she shouldn't have worn shoes. The cold wasn't an issue, but it was possible that she'd slip. Except she didn't. This, running on the ice, it seemed she had a handle on. She ran and she jumped and as she cleared the first hurdle Marcy found herself smiling. She could DO this. She laughed as she cleared the second hurdle, and nothing could stop her by the time she'd reached the third.

This was her event, this was something she could do. With any luck, the rest of the course would be this easy.

Section Three
"A balance challenge?" Marcy hesitated for a moment, and then jumped up on that balance beam. She could TOTALLY do this. She knew it. She just had to be fast and keep her feet on the beam. Easy enough. One step, two steps, heck this was easier than jumping hurdles!

"Run, run, run," she told herself with each step. She was just about half way, this was a piece of cake!

Honestly, she didn't know how she didn't see the stocking. She knew they were there, swinging from side to side, but she thought she'd passed it. It would seem she was wrong, for the stocking caught her cleanly on the side.

Marcy flailed, and for half a second she clung to stocking itself, some fanciful part of her brain hoping it would carry her back to the balance beam it had just pushed her off of. But alas, her grip did not hold, and the stocking was successful in it's push as Marcy slid from it. She landed in a pile of snow.

Marcy laughed.

Section Four
She had failed at that miserably. This next part would be better, she knew that.

This next part looked pretty straightforward. Like little circle-hurdles. She had excelled at hurdles, so maybe this wouldn't be too bad?

Her very first step hinted at trouble to come. Marcy wasn't super short, but she wasn't exactly tall. The wreaths were just the right height to make this a little difficult, considering she couldn't get a running start. One step, two steps... some flailing. "Oh no!" Marcy fell over.

But she got back up. She wasn't about to let this silly little obstacle course beat her. She was going to keep trying, going to keep on going even if she was slower than she would like to be. "On step, two steps," she began to count each step. She started over at random points, but the counting didn't really matter. All that mattered was keeping her eye on that goal and moving forward. Marcy was going to finish this. She wasn't going to fail again. Nope. Not on something so very easy.

And then she was out of the wreathes and at the goal. "Yay!" She was more than happy to cheer herself on.

Section Five
One more section, if she could count correctly. But Marcy didn't exactly like the look of it. It wasn't the dark part that got her, it was the muddy part. "No," she told herself. "Just do it."

And she did. She climbed down onto her knees and began to crawl. It was dark and dirty, and branches and clung to her hair and her dress (it was clearly a mistake to wear it today). Her going was slow. She had to pause here to untangle her hair, and in the next movement her hand would slip in the mud and cause her to lose her balance. Then her dress would get caught on a stick, and then she had to crouch even lower to get under a branch.

It was painfully slow going more Marcy. "Nearly there," she kept telling herself. She was nearly done with this. She had to keep going. For herself and for her dorm. If she could prove to herself she could do all of these things, just think about all the other things she could do in the future. Though she had no intention of crawling under trees in the future. Really. Not ever.

And before her thoughts could get too carried away, Marcy found herself crawling out of the mini forest. With a grin she climbed to her feet, uselessly brushing at her now ruined dress. She was finished. She'd made it! A bit slow, but she was done. "Yay, I did it!"

There was a grim look on the reaper’s face as he stood there, ski poles in hand on a pair of sticks that could barely be classified as a skiing shoes. Joachim had rather terrible experiences with obstacle courses, the last one he could remember turned into a fiasco of him almost freezing into a popsicle. There was also the time he had been almost eaten alive by some man eating plant that thought his red hair was some sort of treat. Merel, who was neatly tucked underneath the knitted cap on his head squeaked when the bell jingled and as the large icicle to kindly pushed them down, Joachim woke up from his terrified memory as he started down the hill.

Hunching over, the tall reaper with his long red hair billowing up behind him gained a little bit of speed down the hill. There was a little bit of a bonus of being completely skinny enough to be mistaken as a pole, and that was the fact that there was little wind resistances against his body. There were a few times he had to duck from the flying bola traps that the snowmen had so kindly tossed at the tall target but there wasn’t really any sort of damage. The only problem he had was when some ghoul cut him off and Merel of course peeking out from underneath his hat screeching a sort of awful noise at her.

Reaching the end the boil slide to a stop, avoiding the large icicle and headed towards the next portion of the course. Maze hurdles. Running, jumping and avoiding things was something Joachim had managed to improve his skill on over the years, it was the best way to escape every sort of horrible situation he had managed to find himself in. The ice of course was added difficulty but it was sort of like skating in heels, without the little blades at the bottom. Reaching the end the reaper merely adjusted his coat and headed towards the next event.

Balance beam, and to give added difficulty a pair of swinging stockings that were more than jolly to knock someone off into the snow next to it. Standing on it he walked with ease, Merel of course digging her little claws into his skull as she noticed the threatening swings and the height that she had found herself over the edge. Reaching the first threatening stocking Joachim found himself slowed down, some student in front of him was rather hesitating in going forward. There was heavy debating of attempting to going around or just kindly push them forward. Instead Merel screeched and the student jumped and started to run again. Finally.

A frown still on his face as he stepped off the end, too easy.

Wreath run. Negative. The scowl on the reaper’s face displayed his displeasure over the entire idea running through stacks of fir wreaths. Prickling, sap, the sheer fact that his second favorite pair of boots was likely to be covered in something sticky no. It was easy, but he was slow and steady making it through in rather disappointing time.

Last course. It received the largest no the reaper could have expressed on his face as he glared. Crawling? No. How unacceptable. Instead he attempted to walk along the lower branches, doing his best to avoid the hurdling pine cones at his head. It was going well until one tree snatched a branch from underneath his feet causing him to face plant into the snow. Groaning he resorted to crawling the rest of the way.

Reaching the finishing line he glared as someone gave him a candy cane and medal.
