He felt a twinge of annoyance with himself and her reaction because of it, but this was the course of action he had chosen to do and he'd be damned if he was going to ******** up over something like heights. "Yeah," he told her, taking a breath. "It's not nearly as bad as China." He hadn't failed to catch the similarities.

But seeing as she already held his face, he went ahead and returned the favor, leaning in for a deeper kiss before they went for the toast. All those little motions were returning again, and he couldn't help but feel a small flood of affection for her as a result.

"Surprised you haven't taken a photo yet. Prime blackmail s**t here."

She made a small noise of displeasure, seeing as kissing him meant potentially spilling her hot chocolate. It quickly melted away and she almost let the mug roll off the roof too. When was the last time they'd ******** and it mattered?

"Me? Mr. Needs to Document Every Second?" she taunted inches from his face, finally leaning back and taking a breath. God she loved his boy.

She moved his arm around her waist and tucked her head against him. Cozy, but hardly domestic. Almost teenage, hormonal somehow. "Toast t'the house, us, marriage- all the cheesy s**t."

"I'll drink to that," he said with a grin, clinking mugs before taking a sip. The hot chocolate still burned him a little, but it was worth it. "Wish the clouds weren't out. It'd make things a little better."

Chel made a small noise of agreement, but didn't say anything as she nursed her hot cocoa. It was warm between her fingers, but she felt it ebbing away with the chill outside.

With a little snort she removed the hood part of the kigurumi, finding the head getting in her way and pushing her hair into her eyes. It made a nice pillow between Jack's shoulder and her head; at least it was good for something.

Looking out to the vast expanse of the island should have filled her with something remarkable, but she was too tired to put it into words. A tiny bubble of safety against the buildings that marked the skyline in front of them and the not doubt teeming shadows behind them. Safe, but a rigid kind of safety; there was no telling when the barriers would break, when the towns would be destroyed ...

Temporary, as with everything they did.

"Thank you," she told him quietly before the feeling slipped away and she forgot.

"For what?" he asked with a glance, not wanting to disturb their comfy positioning. "Making you look like a dork?"

She made a face that crinkled her nose, but simply said, "You do so much for me," before sipping her drink again.

"Yeah?" He scoffed softly. "Doesn't feel like it. You got this whole house up and running while I was busy doing stupid s**t. I could've done more."
PostPosted: Tue Nov 24, 2015 10:35 am

She snorted. The house was just as much for herself as it was for him. It didn't feel like a selfless endeavor, not to Chel anyways.

"Finn said he dumped Rips 'cause of some weird s**t." It didn't take a genius to connect what Jack had told her and what Finn had said to relate that Finn had dumped Ripley because of the memory loss. She wasn't sure of the details beyond that and didn't dare make assumptions (because truthfully she knew ******** all about Ripley and Finn's relationship) but she did know that it had probably been because of the same strain she'd placed on Jack.

"You coulda done the same." Maybe not would have, but could have, certainly. "And who knows f'you woulda stuck it out as long as Finn did." Her mind had certainly been a jumble since the shower. "So thank you." And Chel very rarely said thank you beyond a casual "thanks man" so the fact that she had reiterated it meant something.

He hummed in thought and drank some more hot cocoa, letting the mug rest against his chest for a moment. "I told you, I'd always be here, whether you like it or not, whatever you might ******** up on, all of that."

After a pause, he reached for something in his pocket, shifting slightly just to look at her properly. And there he was, with his stupid skeleton hood up and the cold creeping up at their backs and his fingers delicately holding up a ring like it was made of fine glass and his eyes seemingly bright despite the dark sky.

"I imagined it in a different scenario: maybe in your room after we finally finish the god damn Lord of the Rings, or maybe right out of a mission when you're not so attentive, or on an actual ******** date off this godforsaken island, or maybe something worse and sappy like right at Christmas...I plan things. I look at possible outcomes and try to prepare for each one. I almost had this one down, in fact." The corner of his mouth tugged up. "But you, as always, manage to catch me off guard. But I thought, at the very least, I could do this wearing a kiguwhatsits ******** so it's less intimidating--because I know you joke about everything to make it easier."

He looked like he could say more but paused to let Chel take it in.

It had been a joke for so long that seeing it in reality felt icy. Maybe that was just the chill from the wind, but she felt her face hot against the cloudy sky. Chel didn't blush often, but she was occassionally caught off guard and widened eyes showed it.

But they softened and she said, "Well you ain't even asked proper."

True. He was just winding his way to it with every hope of making this perfect: perfectly orchestrated, perfect mood, perfect words. The exact reason it had taken so long to begin with.

Giving a small heh, Jack carefully sat the mug on what he hoped was a sturdy flat surface. Doing so garnered him another look at the ground, but he forced himself to keep going. It was a little difficult to get on his knees, and the tiles were as comfortable as church pews, but he managed. He nearly knocked his mug over doing so.

The ring was held up once more. "Miss Chel Craft," never Chelsea, no longer just her last name, Catwoman and Harley Quinn and dragon and more, "would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

The shifting of his body to a kneel had her eyes wider than the proposal did. It was dangerous and she didn't want him falling off right after- what a shitty way to go.

"Yeah, s**t man just get down," she said worriedly, pushing his knee so he'd sit back down. She at least gave him her hand so he could slide the ring on (she knew that perfect moment would matter to him) but quickly urged him down.

It wasn't until he was back to his butt that she let out a long sigh. The enormity of the situation hit after. "Ah- ah!" Not that that meant anything. Nothing was going to change, and it was a good thing. They had never needed a ring to make it real, but damn if it didn't feel good to hear it clack against her bracelets as she rung his neck for a kiss. She wanted to do a lot more than kiss, and they would, but the roof was a good preventative. Not that it would have stopped her from trying if he asked.

A moment of discomfort was worth it. It wasn't as though there had been doubt, but it was still a rush of excitement to slip the ring on, to finally know it was going to be there until he replaced it with something better later. (Ah, there it was. He almost laughed. He did laugh, even through the kiss.)

"Can't tease me about it anymore," Jack murmured as he wove his fingers through her hair and kept close, now fully aware he was grinning like an idiot. "You wanna break the news to Barbara, or should I?"

"She got thick skin," she told him, only now looking down to admite the ring. Simple, not fancy. "How much-"

She shook her head and bled into another kiss. No price tags on affection, no guilt now. She didn't want it to be spoiled again.

"Who says I can't tease you?" she taunted, "Now we got a whole year of waitin' for the wedding and then a whole life of ******** ups to make fun of after that." A whole life.

He would have interrupted her with a kiss if she hadn't done so herself.

"Isn't it exciting?" he all but whispered, beaming uncharacteristically. Pressing another kiss to her, Jack gestured to the open window with his head. "I think we should start celebrating."
