When Horace had arrived, he'd stuck to the corners of the bar, listening in on people's conversations, although he hadn't joined any. It was fun looking at everyone's costumes - he'd almost been a kid from some show, but changed last minute to his weapon. Jannisari had informed him he looked nothing like her. His costume really was last minute, though. As it turned out, there was a lot a person could do with scissors, black bed sheets, and a stapler. At least the mask he'd bought beforehand; it was long-beaked and sturdy. The finger claws, too, had been picked up at some jewelry store in Belgium. Unfortunately, they only came in sets of five...

Regardless, He was here in the bar now and when Micah walked in, he almost snorted. No costume, what a travesty. The man also appeared to be muttering to himself. Horace wove his wave through the people (not saying anything because his voice would surely give himself away). He stopped behind Micah. Abruptly, he dropped his chin to rest on Micah's shoulder and spoke in his most gravelly voice.

"Speaking to oneself is a sign of insanity, isn't it?"

"God, Creedence, just, not tonight." Maebe mumbled, leaning her head back on the seat and sliding a napkin over her face. She didn't possess the strength, nor the sanity, to try and throw insults back and forth at someone. That was reserved for -

She groaned and considered sliding under the table again. "No one is going to hear me sing tonight." She muttered, in a voice that sounded strange. Off. "I solemnly spare you all that suffering."

Micah yelped, swung around, and attempted to aim a punch at whatever had just plopped down on his shoulder, because what the ********>. However, the fact that he was sitting on a bar stool and thus had relatively limited space to spin around in threw him off, and he missed and was forced to grab the seat to keep from falling off. Once he'd determined that the source of the voice was, in fact, human, and that he wasn't in any actual danger, he scowled at the costumed person, attempting to recover some small part of his injured dignity. "I'm talking to my weapon," he informed the guy.

His sleeve was coming loose. He turned his scowl on the offending fabric and fixed it.

Kylee pouted in jest. "How does it go again? What big teeth you have, Mr Sheep?"

"I don't really mind a drink." She answered, glancing towards the bar. "But... I don't really know anyone..." The brunette trailed off as he guided her towards it, fiddling with a corner of her cloak. It wasn't that she was anti-social; everyone else seemed to know each other while she well... barely recognized any faces...

"Except you. Or Shu." Spotting the other Chinese girl, Kylee gave her a wave.

"Oh yeah, totally. Raum....raums. All like...demony and stuff." Creedence had another drink in her hand after casually swinging one off the next table and sipped it to help accent her bullshit. Whatever, she could look it up later.

Unimpressed by Maebe's suffering, she took another sip, muttering into her drink, "Sparing us the song but not the act, gee." The blonde was definitely a melodramatic drunk, if not a puking one. She was kind of a melodramatic everything, though. A trait at turns obnoxious and something close to (not that Creedence would ever describe it as such) charming.

"A while," he answered Melody somewhat distractedly. "S'not so bad, really, once y'get used to it." The conversation wasn't quite going as planned, and without anyone being enthusiastic about karaoke...and Maebe being drunk...Hrm. Maybe she ought to get taken home...

He gave Creedence a small nudge. "Ease up a bit, honey, she lost someone," Dawson said with a knowing look. Then, to direct the conversation towards something more manageable, "Ain't raums like a thing in D&D? I coulda sworn..."

He jumped back with a small squeak of surprise. It was certainly good that Micah didn't land a hit, because Horace had to do an awkward little hop to keep his balance as it was. Once he regained his balance, he readjusted his mask and peered down the long beak of it at Micah.

"But why were you muttering to it? ....are you dressed as your weapon?"

"I'm, what ... " Micah scowled thunderously as an idea formed slowly, obviously, and embarrassingly late in his mind. You can still hear me. Can't you, he thought at Nova.

She cackled laughter in response. You not dumb!

He gritted his teeth and concentrated, briefly, on forming a perfectly clear mental image of a middle finger lifted high in the air. Then he said to Horace, as evenly as he could manage, "She gave me some suggestions, but I refuse to wear only leaves."

"Ember!" The outfit extended to his fingers apparently, painted with black nail varnish. All the same, he shook both of their hands in turn with a surprisingly strong grip.

"I only woke up in like August, I was recruited during that like, mall zombie thingy a few months ago. It was neat. And scary. But also neat. But that totallllly means I can't leave the island yet, and haven't even had my first check yet. So, super budget DIY Morrigan from Dragon Age."

He turned to give Zeke a second look, inspecting him appreciatively. "Close enough, right? Sexy professor, sexy teacher, same difference. You totally look like an English tutor I had for a while. Not an insult."

Matt laughed again before giving Kyle a crooked grin. “Maybe, I honestly don't see myself that bright, I do quite a few dumb things without even realizing it at times.” Their was a real reason of why he had been so good, why he had put so much effort into studying but Kyle didn’t need to know. No one needed to. “Besides anyone who makes it almost graduating has to be pretty smart anyways. Even if you aren’t in ten percent don’t sell yourself short not everyone could do it.”

He finished off his drink as Kyle went to get some more for the both of them. He took a moment to look around, a few of the faces he knew, some of them were already pretty plastered versus his light buzz. Grinning, he picked up the scotch as the hunter set it on the table in front of him. He eyed the water noting he should have some as well but it could wait until later.

“Thanks. I’ll get the next one if you still want anything to drink.

Kyle got himself a martini this time round, shying away from the hard core stuff that Matt was having since he wasn't sure if he was able to handle something as strong as that. "We all do. Goes to show that we're human. Don't suppose you'll mind elaborating on that though?" The Sun probed tentatively, curiosity piqued yet not wanting to come across to the other hunter as intrusive or nosey.

"I appreciate the vote of confidence there. I'm satisfied so long as what I've learnt will help another when the time comes." He nodded a few times with a smile before leaning back in his seat. "Sounds good to me. Been a long time since I got a chance to sit down like this now that I think of it." A brief pause so that he could pick up his glass to sip at his drink, the glass of water left as it was for now since he didn't quite need it yet. Tilting his head slightly, he glanced back at the older Moon once more, his fingers drumming lightly on the table surface.

"So... how long have you been on the island Matt?"

“Oh mostly little things, like dropping my spear in spars, spilling coffee on myself, ripping suit pants, forgetting sometimes about the whole fear shield healing things of hunters. Sometimes it’s so easy to immediately be concerned about someone’s health that is the first thing I jump to.” They were minor things of course, may have not been entirely true either but it was all Kyle needed to know on the subject.

“Good. Usually I have a shift but tonight was one of the few nights I have gotten off.” Matt took a long gulp of his drink enjoying the taste; usually he only had a glass on occasion so already he had more than usual. Of course it went straight to his head in some way but not enough. Yet.

“Three years. I have been at Deus for three years and I just finally made it to intermediate. That should tell you how many mistakes I made in sparring and battles.” He made a face, sort of like he was apologizing for his actions.

"He looks almost nothing like a professor who may or may not have been fired on my account." It was agreement of an extremely contrary sort, Ever's attention not even sliding over to Zeke this time. Instead he seemed thoroughly engaged in the tiny little creature in front of them, his own arms folded over his chest and his head cocked just slightly to one side. The beer hung forgotten from one hand, resting almost exactly against that hooking scar low on his abdomen while he dug for words.

"...is Dragon Age more like Game of Thrones or more like Lord of the Rings?" All things considered, he was proud that he even knew that many references; he'd only read the first Song of Ice and Fire book, but that was a pop culture accomplishment when it came to Ever.

"I've never heard of it, but it sounds high fantasy-ish, and obviously has scantily clad --" one brief pause, deer-in-headlights look that flashed across his face and then disappeared again as he Ever decided to just ******** it, "women?"

And like that, maybe he tipped his hand, just a little. Ever still had no clue if he was talking to a boisterous, flat-chested woman or a particularly girlish and enthusiastic young man. Alas: neither the voice nor the handshake quite solved the question. Not with those fingernails.

"That all sounds pretty normal and unrelated to what you already have up here intellectually speaking. Old habits die hard." Kyle remarked, lifting a hand to gently tap his right temple with an index finger. It was enough information for him to work with and he had no intention of probing any further than that as far as Matt was concerned at this point.

Sipping slowly from his glass to savour the taste of his drink, he set it down to reach for the glass of water. "I see. Seems to me that they've been stretching everyone pretty thin since that s**t that hit the Life building and all." It wasn't an observation. It was a fact that every active hunter have had their duty rosters packed really tight with just the bare number of hours of rest that was humanely required.

"I don't see what's wrong about that. What matters is that you're still alive and we're here having this conversation despite whatever s**t that was thrown at you out there." He gave a shrug at Matt's admittance, not at all in any position to think any less of the Moon for that. It wouldn't count for anything at the end of the day if any of them zipped their way through the ranks and landed up dead out there after all. At least that was what he thought anyway.

"I gather that congratulations are in order so... allow me to propose a toast to all that?" He raised his glass, flashing a grin at Matt to try to get his mind off things for a bit. They were all gathered here tonight at the Bull to have a good time after all. Not beat themselves up over what had happened as well as the what ifs.

“Everyone has been stretched pretty thin, its why I keep taking on extra shifts even though it is cutting into some of my training time. Not that I slack on either, but you are right old habits diehard and some of mine are the worse. Working and studying is pretty much the only thing I know how to do.” Matt grinned, it took him over a year to take his first vacation away from Deus. At least a vacation that didn’t involve some sort of attack from creatures, or a sinking ship somewhere. The Vegas tripped was however jammed with far too much things to do, very little sleep, even less sleep then when he was Deus.

Not that he complained.

“Alive yes, mostly.” Matt grinned before taking another sip of his glass. There were a few times that it was debatable if he was going to come back or not. If it wasn’t for the bond with his weapon he would have been dead.

“Thank you, and sure.” Holding up his own glass he tried not to look a little embarrassed at the idea of getting a toast over a promotion. To be honest he wasn’t sure how he felt about the promotion thing, as if he hadn’t really deserved it yet.

“How about a toast to promotions and a fun night yes?”
