"Your mother suffered a bit more than me," he said quietly. "We were very lucky, it could have been a lot worse. Probably should have been, in all honesty." He eyed up the purple dragon again, "Maybe a little more protection around here isn't the worst idea ever."
Gregor did not like to see the fear, the pain on the faces of these two. While this had began as a type of challenge he began to see their great need for a warrior such as himself around. It would seem the second part of Akis's challenge would be difficult to meet. He was not feeling very willing to leave right now.

"Well, Gregor is a mighty warrior," Akis assured her father with a too bright smile. "He'll be able to keep our river plenty safe. Right, Gregor?" she glanced at him, silently prompting him to give her father the promises he needed to feel better. In her travels, she had seen strange and terrifying things. She had managed to escape by the skin of her tail on several occasions. But she had never been as worried as she was when she heard that a skinwalker had made it into her home... because the forest was her home. No matter where she went, what she saw, she had always held on to the belief that her home was safe and nothing bad would happen here. That a nightmare had made its way in and somehow managed to topple ZAHAVAH... Akis's world had tilted on its axis and she needed refind her balance.

Gregor needed little encouragement, "Do not fear. Gregor will do all in his power to keep your waters and your lands safe. Walkers may be formidable foes, but none so smart as Gregor!"

Akis graced Gregor with a warm smile, pleased that he was so quick with his reassurances. She could get used to this guy. He wasn't too hard on the eyes, either. Yeah... this could work out... "And I'm going to stick around for awhile, too," she informed her father. "So I can help Mom out."

Pavlov sighed with relief more with his daughter's words than the stallion's reassurances, "I think she would really like that."
"And I in turn will help Akis out," Gregor chimed in.

"We can even keep an eye on the rugrats," Akis added. "Where are the ankle biters, anyway?" She should probably introduce Gregor to the whole family while she was at it. It might be amusing to see how he handled the little ones.

"I'm sure they're near," Pavlov said glancing around, his pale blue eyes scanning the tree line extensively. "Your mother's not crazy about letting them stray too far after...everyone." He watched for a moment as Grimm eyed the stallion. If the rabbit accepted him, Pavlov figured he was trust worthy. In many ways Grimm had become indispensable, not only in helping Pavlov navigate the world around him, but also in helping the stallion take and maintain his course.
Gregor felt a small pang of concern for the family. he might not have known them very long, but he could tell they had been greatly shooken up. After all, he was a mercenary, but not heartless. Besides, aside from Akis and possible her mother, he didn't see any of them actually invading in trouble. What was worse, it was, it seemed, that small little ones had been brought into this whole mess. Now Gregor could understand all manners of violence, but not against little kids. That was simply monstrous. Such was the skinwalkers. Yes, Gregor could see himself quite easily making nice home here in this land, if nothing else but to help these others. of course he would have to be careful, sell sword who leaves out selling part goes hungry very quickly. But for the moment at hand, he could see that Akis was interested to continue introductions. Far be it for the mighty warrior to disappoint a fair lady, "Ankle biters, you say? You have such affection for small creature, is really very warming of the heart."

Akis grinned a bit at Gregor. "They're ankle biters because that's all they can reach," she teased. "But yeah... I love them. They're adorable little squirts."

"It seems like you have very interesting family," Gregor commented starting to follow her lead in seeking out these ankle biters. "I am sorry though to see how much trouble befalls them. It is not right for such small ones to know fear so early." He paused and then added, "I am being quite sincere in desire to help guard these lands, I am beginning to worry the second test you put to me will be most difficult to pass."

"Second test?" she frowned, trying to figure out what he was talking about. Then she winced, remembering the challenge she had used to drag him home. Finding out what had happened while she was gone had driven all thoughts of challenges and games from her mind. "Oh... yeah... don't worry about that. I... I'd appreciate it if you stuck around, honestly. Anything to help, right?"
