Yu was proud that they saw her effort and potentials to be a knight, it was a sensation to be approved and recognized. She still had no idea about the cuff bracelet on her hand or the reason she was dressing like a male. Her memory was - somehow erased, reason unknown. It bothered her but there were more urgent thing to bother about. Following the knights down a series of stairs, she kept a visible distance with them because males. She happily saw them left her in front of a chamber.
In her light armor, she walked slowly towards the beautiful glowing pool, in which full of different kinds of weapon. An an archer, she was interested in bows mainly. She slowly waded herself into the pool, it was closer-
"You want to be a knight like us?" A mature female voice said, kinda surprised but composed. She was sitting on a chair, wiping her sword. Wearing a set of nifty armor in gold color, she turned to ask for her partner's opinion - a male knight. "If she want, we can give her a chance." His expression was mild and his smile was tender as the female knight looked at him. Behind them was an embroidery decoration with a lion on it.
The female considered and nodded, "What weapon you want? I only know you're interested in grasses." She frowned. "Darling, not grasses, herbs and plants," the man made a remark. The identical rings shone on their fingers. "I am not sure, maybe a sword," The young lady in a blue velvet medieval dress with a silverbelt said. "Sword doesn't suit you," the female knight made a flat comment, "how about ranged?" She suggested. "That's not a bad idea, Yu. You can use your knowledge on herbs to empower the arrows."
The lady in blue dress was slightly disappointed, ever since she was young, she wished to be a cool sword-wielding knight like her mother. "Please be my teacher, mother." She made the request but got rejected. "Your father is better to be a teacher than me, besides, he's an archer." The young lady took a look at the male knight, seemed to be displeased.
The female knight left, after saying she was going to give the fellows a training. "Let's check out some bows and see which one suits you?" They went to a room with all bows hanging on the wall. "Try this one first, it's light in weight and rather small." She drew the bow open, with difficulty. "Try this, it's no good if you use so much energy to draw it." This time was a longbow, it was big but she could draw the string at ease. "Hmm, longbow could be the best for you." He made the conclusion after trying some more. "Take this arrow and try shooting it to that target."
They went outside, she drew the string of the longbow the first time with an arrow, she aimed the red dot and released the pull -
Yu found herself holding something in her hand, making a shooting gesture. It was what brought the memory back - two knights close to her. Closing her eyes, she could still see the decorations on wall, the colors and items of the house, it was weird.
It was about time Lass thought as she followed the knights down the stairs and into the various hallways. After what had occurred she had almost assumed that such promotions would be put on hold but when they approached her she was more than glad to follow. She couldn’t help but bear the largest grin on her face as she excitement seemed to ripple through her body, it was one more step closer, closer in being something of power. Respect, power, control these were all things she thirst for and becoming a full knight was perfect. Soon she would be even greater, greater and greater that only a few would be even able to consider themselves her equal. This would still take time of course, small steps small running steps was all Lass needed.
Reaching the chamber with the pool Lass didn’t hesitate as she stepped forward, vaguely realizing that those who she had travelled there with where gone and now it was just her left all alone. The water had a soft glow to it as she approached it and its surface was still, not a ripple daring to stretch across it. She almost didn’t want to touch it, to ruin it with her own finger tips but if she wanted power she would. Glancing over the weapons she kept looking, one something specific that would catch her eye, it took a few minutes but she had found it a large and rather sharp sword. It was almost too large for such a smaller size frame of knight but it would create a lot of damage and of course put a smile on the knight’s face. She reached out letting her fingers sink into the pool, wrapping her hand around it she went to pull it up.
---------
“Stand up straight, and quite your complain you useless child.” Lass looked up at the familiar face of the woman, it was not her mother, no it was a matron, some sort of mother in some small abbey in the country side. This was the third place, the third place she had been shoved off to be taken care of by someone, it didn’t really change, they were all the same. Fakes, they all promised to do some good and to help but they had no real interest in it, no it was all just an illusion to appear pretty in front of their dumb gods.
“Your worthless, you will always be worthless child.” The woman’s voice was vile, the words rolling off like venom as she continued to whack at the girl’s knees. An orphan had no power, the only power Lass had was to escape, to flee this hell hole that people wanted to consider home. Oh yes she would, Lass always did even if someone in the town found her stealing and shoved into some new place for care. One day tho, she would have more power the girl thought biting her lip, refusing to scream or even sob each time she was hit. One day she was going to have enough power to come back, enough to dispose of them, yes dispose of those who misused their power to show them all how great she really was.
They would all regret, regret, she thought now her body trembling with ferocity. The matron glared as if suddenly aware of that what she was doing had little effect, “what wicked thoughts where you thinking of child?” Lass merely grinned at her, she wasn’t going to tell no, it was far better to see the fat woman squirm under her knowing that no matter what she did she wouldn’t break her.
A slap from the fat fingers stung her face, as a voice shouted into her ears, “you ungrateful cur, you’ll get no supper for the rest of this week.” The hand wrapped around her shoulder pulling her roughly across the dirt floor, a swift movement of the woman’s foot sent Lass flying into the ground. Her teeth biting her tongue as blood filled her mouth as more trickled down from her nose.
Tonight, yes tonight it was time to get out of there, that was after Lass would pinch the woman’s special box of chocolates she kept stashed away in the kitchen.
------
Lass blinked, she was looking back at the water her hand still holding the handle of the war hammer. Pulling it up she looked around, unsure of what she had just seen, or maybe it was something she had remembered. No, why would she forget a memory like that in the first place? It must have been some sort of illusion, a test for those that were worthy, sort of like how one would react to former memories of the weapon.
Shrugging, she made her way out of the chamber, there was no point in dwelling on it now.
He didn't feel very deserving of whatever it was that the cave and the weapons within it had to offer him.
He didn't need power. He didn't need strength. He didn't need to help the Great King, because it wasn't the Great King he'd ever wanted to help.
When he reached the pool of water at the bottom of the stairs, after miserably dragging himself down them, he just stared at it. There's nothing here, he told it, unable to find the energy to speak it aloud. Not for me. Everything for me is gone now.
But as he gently dropped his fingertips against the surface of the water, hoping it might give him a moment's reprieve, he felt something calling to him; not unlike the way Mordred called to him, in the sense that he never actually audibly had. It was just something that Thackery felt, something he knew. That they needed to be together.
A gasp of awe was the only thing that he managed before his hand plunged into the cool water of the pool.
It feels really good to do the right thing!
He knows he's a really really good boy. This is what he's gotta do, and maaaybe he wouldn't have wanted to normally, but it's the only way to help. He's sure of it! And it feels good to be sure of something.
Sometimes they cry and sometimes they scream and sometimes they're not saying anything at all. And sometimes by the end of it he hushes them because that's helping the most, helping them not have to cry or scream or beg please no.
But it's the only way to help, and it feels good to know they're safe.
They're all red on the inside, and all red on the outside, and he wishes they were purple, purple is his favorite, but red is nice. It is nice and warm, and it makes nice and warm smiles when he paints their faces into permanent happiness.
Safe and happy and good.
He looked at his hands, a beaming smile returning to his face. They'd looked so happy. He knew what he had to do. He could do it.
He could.

A knight. Was this really what he wanted? It must have been, but he felt- well, fighting wasn't something he was particularly drawn to. There must have been something else, something more than riding and monsters and the infernal in-fighting that was marking a definite descent in the ranks.
He clanked down into the catacombs, and the wide pool.
There, he reached out, and his gloved hand found a grip-
He was doing his maths. The teacher was dressed in silks, and he watched as Barth wrote the same tired problems over and over again as if it had anything to do with understanding the concept.
A man wants to trade 2500 kronar for 4000 denarii... At 5% interest, after a year... What is the balance...
He can hear the servants out in the halls, the whispers expanded and distorted by the acoustics of the vaulted ceilings. But it is one phrase that sticks out, and his ears grow hot as he writes harder, scuffing the quill against the parchment so that the squeaking drowns it out.
The little b*****d.
They do not say it to his face, but some do. He is young. It is not the first time he has heard it. It has been explained in all its complexities. Power, prestige, inheritance, respect.
It isn't embarrassment that makes his ears hot, but anger, and after a while he can not see the numbers anymore, and he is not sure whether it is from tears or fury. He'd show them. They'd regret it. They'd all regret...
His reflection, sallow and well-kept for all the misery that journeying had put him through, stared back at him. He withdrew from the pool. Had he chosen to forget...? Somehow, he didn't think he would.
It was time. Nellie could barely contain her excitement as she descended the flight of stairs that took her to an underground chamber that she never knew existed. The knights who escorted her remained at the entrance. This was as far as they were permitted to go and would remain until she was done eventually. She took a step forward then another, her attention drawn to the pool of water that was situated in the centre of the chamber.
In the water, it was like a treasure trove that had just about every kind of weapon that one could think of. For a moment, she simply stood where she was, an appreciative look in her eyes as she admired each and every one of them. Somewhere amongst them, there was just one weapon that was meant to be hers. There. Moving along the side of the pool till she got to where she needed to go, Nellie dipped her hand into the water.
~~~~~~~~
"I have a present for you." She blinked, turning from what she was doing to the boy who held a box out to her. "For Nellie..?" She took the box and opened it, revealing a flower crown made of her favourite flowers, daisies, and a necklace within. "Why?" He smiled, taking hold of one of her hands in his and giving it a small squeeze. "I love you. I know it hasn't been long since we met, but I want to be that special someone to you. Bring you happiness, take good care of you, protect you, cherish you. Especially in this time when anything could happen to us."
He paused, a sheepish expression on his face now. "Will you let me..?"
~~~~~~~~ She stared long and hard at the chained weapon that her hand came up with. Was that? A memory. Part of what she gave up to become the knight that she was going to be. She knew that boy. Cain. She even went questing with him a few times though she admittedly hadn't seen him since and knew not if he was still alive. Tightening her grip on her weapon, she frowned and started towards the exit.

He was called, not long after watching the figure of Sir Percival ripped limb from limb from a creature who had called herself the Queen Morgana of the Sidhe. It was as if part of a world he thought he knew, the world that he felt safe in, was now ripping apart faster than he could grasp. The ground was slowly crumbling underneath his feet and his back was now to the corner with nowhere else to run. There was the feeling he didn’t deserve this, no he could have done so much more, more to protect those in the treasure room but he had failed them.
He had worked hard, but some part of him felt as if he had not worked hardly at all, that he had not done enough to reach his promotion. Guilt rested in Matthias’s head as he followed the others down the stairs, each step almost seemed to call out to him, in a rather mocking tone reminding him how he could do more. He couldn’t look at the other knights, instead he kept his eyes looking at his feet as they made their way through the other corridors until they stopped in one.
Looking around Matthias slowly stepped forward peering at the soft glow of the pool of water in front of him. It was strangely still as if all of it was lit and controlled by some sort of magic as a small part of him grew somewhat fearful. It was in that moment he realized that he was alone the other knights where gone and he was left to continue forward. There was a small fear that this was all arranged by Morgana or at least some sort of trap for him now but if the other knights had gone through, he would be ok.
Walking closer his eyes glanced over all of the weapons scattered in the pool, all of them glistened from the glow but only one seemed to catch his eye. A sword similar to the one he had before reaching down he grasped for the hilt, his fingers sinking into the warm water touching the cool surface.
----
“Come on Matt let’s go, you promised you would show how to sword fight today come on wake up,” A voice sounded as it tugged at his arm, any more and she was going to tug the poor thing out of its socket.
“Ok ok ok, I am getting up I am moving, moving.” Opening his eyes he glanced up ceiling and over to the large grin of his little sister who as clutching the small wooden stick she had called a sword a day earlier. It was obviously nothing more than a piece of a branch that had been at least somewhat carved to have a small handle and a slightly pointed edge. Rolling himself out of the bed he stretched and petted her on the head fondly as he dug around for the wooden sword he had when he was a kid. Pulling it out he held it out in front of him, “Ok I’ll teach you today but no crying if you get hit deal, and you have to be ok with not winning.”
The girl pouted for a moment, obviously more at the idea of losing to him before grinning wide again “Fine.” Taking off she ran down a small corridor and into the courtyard with Matthias following behind her. Turning around she struck a pose her feet far apart with and the wooden sword in one hand pointed out at him.
“No no, ok let’s start with the basic such has how your suppose to stand and hold the sword with two hands not just one.” Walking over to her Matthias stood his feet slightly apart his shoulder leaning a little forward with the sword in both hands almost square in front of him. “Try to do the same as me, don’t forget that holding a sword with both hands help, I know it might seem more fun to wield it in one hand but you lose ground and stability. It is easier for someone to knock it out of your hands and then you will have no weapons and you will be defenseless.
“Like this?” She asked her eyes peering at him as a scream echoed into the courtyard.
“WHAT IN HEAVEN’S NAME DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING!”
------
He jolted the sword still in his hand trembling somewhat was sweat seemed to pour down his face. Was it a memory? Was it something else? Maybe it was another trick a trap set up by the sword or the merely a test to see some other poor knight’s memory. A way to sort of scare him away that he like others before him would fail all over again. Gripping the sword he shook his head as if trying to forget what had happened as started to leave the room.
Chaya glanced behind him as he moved nervously into the room, and found that the knight who'd brought him here had vanished. He wasn't going to be watched? And he didn't really have instructions, either. He hoped he was doing it right.
There was really only one place to go, though, and he knelt down by the glowing pool, feeling a strange peace as he looked down into it, feeling a kind of pull, an urge to reach in and take a sacred weapon. To take the right one, and he didn't feel any doubt about which one was the right one. He reached forward, dipping his hand into the coolly glowing water.
Grinning, he deposited the puppy into Holly's lap. It wasn't his puppy, not precisely; the hounds belonged to the lord, of course, as did all the animals in the castle. But Chaya helped to take care of them, and so he could teach Holly how to help, and today at least that meant that the litter of puppies needed to get used to humans, and if that gave him a chance to put a wriggly, happy puppy in his friend's lap to see her smile, that was just an extra bit of fun, wasn't it?
Blinking, he looked around the cavern again. He'd known Hollandaise? That felt right. That felt okay. He could still be her friend, even if he didn't remember any of the rest of it.

He found his way down to the pool by accident. By this point, there was no one to take them down, no one to guide them. In the scramble to leave Camelot, he'd found himself in front of the pool of weapons. Must have taken a wrong turn trying to follow Lancelot, but it didn't matter.
Bradley wasn't worthy to follow any of the knights anymore, not after what happened in that corridor.
He sat down at the edge of the pool, staring into the water. The young man was beaten to hell; a great bruise was forming on his temple where he'd hit the throne. His tabard was torn in multiple places. He was positively filthy. He looked like a deranged man, more fit for a cave in the wilderness than this pool. Bradley had let the madness take him over, as though he was a simpleton or a Rider. He was no better than them. He'd been so consumed over a grail that didn't even exist, he'd forgotten what the issue at hand was. He'd fallen so fast, how was he even worthy to be part of the knights anymore?
Yet he was alive, that had to count for something. He was alive, he was down here among the quiet stillness of the pond full of weapons. He'd survived everything so far. Perhaps, just perhaps, that meant he could get a chance at salvation. That he could redeem himself. He'd faltered once; as long as he did not falter again, there was strength in overcoming your mistakes.
His eyes were pulled to a weapon among the shallows. It called to him, a distinct "this is mine" ringing out. It was not like the grail, but quieter, more calm. He reached into the pool, fingers creating ripples.
"Brother! Brother! Look what I found!" came the voice of Yzia from around a bush. They were young, perhaps eight summers old, when the world was brighter and less full of darkness. He moved around the bush to find his sister crouched in front of a hallow log with kitten in it. They mewed and licked at her fingers, while their mother slept in the shadow of the log. They must have been four weeks old, if that. They were so tiny, and fragile, Bradley crouched behind his sister to not scare them. Even at eight, he was a tall boy with gangly limbs and proportions. He towered over his other friends, and scared most small animals just by moving. He didn't want to risk his sister getting bitten by one of the kittens, or worse, their mother.
"Brother, when you're big, promise me you'll protect the weak. Use all that strength you got and protect those who can't." He frowned and looked at her as she gently picked up a kitten and scratched its head.
"What do you mean, Yzia?" he asked her, confused. She'd always been like that, since she could speak. She spoke cryptically sometimes, to the point their mother thought she might be touched by magic. Impossible, given the Great King's ban on magical items, but it was times like this he wondered if it was possible to be born with magic.
"No matter what, protect the innocent. Even when it's dark and full of terrors, protect the ones who can't protect themselves. Use your strength for good and what you think is right. You'll succeed in all you do that way!" She grew very serious and quiet as she spoke, focusing on the kitten. There was a pause and she smiled at him, before nuzzling the kitten and chatting to the little fuzz balls.
The memory shattered and he stared at the offensive staff he'd pulled from the water. Yzia... his sister. He'd forgotten about her. A price he'd paid to be in the position in the first place. He wondered what happened to her, as her words range in his head.
"Protect the innocent, even when it's dark and full of terrors."
How could she have possibly known? Perhaps she didn't and it was just coincidence. Yeah... coincidence.
He stood, turning and leaving the cave to catch up with the rest of the knights. Bradley had been given a second chance. He'd better make the most of it.

Cadence gave her pony, which she had been tending on last pet before heading off and following after the knight who had called her name, part of her couldn’t believe that she was becoming a full knight all ready. It seemed like the training had gone by so quickly and part of her wasn’t sure if she was prepared. They descended down a staircase as and she soon found herself standing in a large cavern with a glowing pool of water.
Walking to the water’s edge she looked down at the weapons that lay beneath the surface, each of them where beautifully crafted each weapon was a master piece. Each weapon was locked and chained as she scanned the pool trying take in everything she saw she was hit with a feeling as if something was calling out to her. The staff that seemed to be calling to her took her breath away it was gorgeous without a second though she stuck her hand into the water to reach for the weapon.
“CADENCE PUT THAT THING BACK RIGHT NOW!” Her mother’s screams echoed in her ears and the young girl looked up in surprise. “Huh?” Her head tilted slightly as her amber eyes drifted to the serpent that had coiled around the hand she was holding it in. Her mother seemed to have some sort of object to the snake being brought inside the house as she was angrily pointing the end of a broom at it. “You don’t like my new friend?” Cadence asked sadly. “No! That thing is not your friend! It is a wild animal and it is going to bite you, how many times have I told you not to touch wild animals? Go outside and let it go NOW.” Her eye’s dropped to the floor at the scolding and she shuffled off to the garden to release the snake.
The world had started to fade away as the snake slithered off and Cadence was suddenly back at the glowing pond clutching her new staff in her hand. Had that been a memory of her old life?
