Gale could feel her smiling against his mouth, and it made him smile in return; a laugh was echoed on his lips, then another smile, and he pressed a gentle kiss to the corner of her mouth, the side of her jaw, and her forehead was against his and he could feel the dampness on his own cheeks now.
It was a little embarrassing, if he was going to be honest; he hadn't cried in months, maybe even a year, not since Bix had "died." But this was different, and this was Stormy, and her thumb brushed beneath his eye, wiping away the moisture there.
I love you. She'd said I love you. He could have listened to those same three words forever, over and over again, until they were ingrained within his mind, until her voice and her love and her warmth was as much a part of him as everything else was. He wanted to bask in it, wrap himself in it, let it flow through his veins so that it overtook all of the pain and the sorrow and the fear that he felt etched inside of him.
"I'm not sorry," he said, and Gale pulled her into another hug, unable to stop himself, unable to let go of her just yet. He pushed his face into her shoulder, his own shaking slightly. "I'm not sorry, I will always be with you, I love you, I love you, I love you."

The lightning bolt scar that spanned the length of her arm and shoulder tingled under his touch. She still hadn't talked about it.
"You chase away the bad ones," Stormy told him. "That's close enough~" Her eyelids felt heavy but her mind and body were still recovering, whatever her casual conversation might insinuate: she was tired, but not tired. "What're you gonna do while you're up?"

Stormy was kneeling on the ground before Gale's couch, cooing over Tink. She had been trying to get the little dragon to spread her wings and fly off one of the arms, but her attempts hadn't proved successful the past few days. It was a shame minipets couldn't stay out long (her phone had been set to a timer just to be extra careful), but Stormy had begun to find her patient optimism again: even little steps were good.
Without taking her eyes off Tink, she asked Gale in her offhand and casual manner, "So did you ever figure it out?" It was the same manner she employed very often when she wanted to direct them to some random but purposeful topic, most of which came to mind literal seconds before being voiced, all of which swam in her head like schools of fish glittering here and there, asking to be noticed and made real.

He hadn't asked about it either. Or told her about the hourglass on his own arm.
"I thought I might read for a bit," Gale said, sliding his fingers along hers. "Or maybe I'll just watch you for a while," he added, with a slightly teasing smile tugging at his lips.

Gale was not sitting on the couch, but in the armchair facing opposite the couch, his feet propped up on the coffee table between them. There was a file open in his lap, which he seemed to be studying very intently, a pair of reading glasses perched on the end of his nose.
It took him a moment to drag himself out of the file (which was labeled something about Horseman artifacts).
"Sorry? What was that?"

"Did you ever figure it out?" she repeated just as sweetly, like she had a secret she was dying to tell him but only after he had his three courtesy guesses. "What I mean when I say Galestorm?"

She laughed some more and it wasn't as watery, her arms coming around him tight and assuring. Not going anywhere. And neither was he. He couldn't hope to escape her as she tilted her head, kissed his hair, kissed it again, and whispered in his ear, "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you and I like you," like it was the harmony to his melody.

He smiled down at her. "I might borrow one of your Harry Potter books. Maybe I can read aloud to you sometime; a better bedtime story than a lot of things," he added, squeezing her fingers.

He raised his gaze to look at her, blinking slowly at her from behind his reading glasses, which made her slightly blurry.
"Not yet," Gale admitted, a little sheepishly. "I thought about it for a bit, but then everything I thought about was pretty lame."

She was holding him tightly and with every breath, every touch of her hands, her lips, he was starting to feel more and more secure, more and more reassured. The truth of her words, the words themselves, washed over him and he drank them greedily in, wanting each and every one of them.
He wouldn't get tired of hearing it. He knew that immediately.
"I love you," Gale said again, quite unnecessarily, but he gave a little, shakey laugh, and pressed a dozen little kisses over her cheeks, her nose, her forehead, her eyes, her lips, over her face. "And I like you." Another kiss to her lips, and he wanted nothing more than to just ingrain the moment into his heart forever.
"Thank you," he said softly, and kissed her temple.
