"I did not take your things~" It repeated for Spiridon, head tilting as if looking at him. "I already told you It's a social experiment, see? It only didn't work because you can't follow instructions. It's not a good thing, you know, to go against what you're told in a situation like this. Being brave gets you nowhere ~" As to why it did this, it gave no answer. It didn't seem to even blip on the radar.

"No, four total. You silly kids have yet to do it right ~" The Fracs teased towards Aurel.

"Correct!" The Fracs squeaked to Pachua next. "You refused to play by the rules, so I decided to give you another shot. But, third time's the charm, and this is your last chance!" The Fracs cheered, tail swaying excitedly. The name Pachua used only really drew a small pause from the creature, but it was only a small blip - and one it didn't acknowledge otherwise.

"But - I'm glad you asked. It's my favourite part!" The Fracs lept to all fours, dancing excitedly on the spot. "You have twenty-four hours from the time the first of the four leaves to go get help. If you don't return in time..." The Fracs paused for effect.

From the floor above them came a small, mechanical click and a sharp hiss -

A metal spike swung from the gaping hole in the ceiling like a penduluum, piercing through Amphi's back with enough force to push the dark, bloody tip right through her stomach. The ghoul sputtered with surprise, her head rolling down to see the protrusion, her hands lifting shakily to try and grab it, making a vain effort to free herself of it. She lifted her head to look at the others, her gaze questioning and shocked -

Click

Another spike swung, and this time, Amphi saw it coming. It pierced through her chest, an inch and a half lower than her collar bone. Blood began to seep from the corner of her mouth as she struggled to breathe. Her movements began to grow sluggish. Her breathing became shallow and empty. All the life drained out of her until none could be felt coming from her body at all - and yet, somehow, she didn't dissipate. Amphi hung there, impaled by two separate spikes, blood darkening her clothes and the ground beneath her.

"Would the class please refer to the second map found in the box ~" The Fracs said, breaking the silence long after Amphi's life drained from her. "Any questions?"

Mathias very adamantly refused to look at what was going on. There were ghouls in the room, he had heard them, and he wasn't about to be put under their mind spell when there was very serious business going about. The others had asked a question that he did want to hear an answer to, however, so he kept his mouth shut, his arms still crossed over his chest, the bandages wrapped around his torso pulling tight at the motion.

Finally, it seemed that the answer would come, so his ears perked forward at attention, waiting....

There was a mechanical sound. A click. Mathias's nose twitched as if he was sniffing at the air, and he instinctively took a step back, tripping over a bit of debris and falling back, landing with a thud on the floor as he hissed a curse.

Something was cutting through the air. He could feel the movement, could hear the sound it made, and winced when it made a thunking sound as it hit flesh.

Another click. Another repeat of the sounds from before. Mathias didn't need to look to know something awful had happened. He could smell the blood in the air, his nose wrinkling at the scent.

"Vut is this? This is...." He shook his head, clambering back to his feet. He couldn't look. Couldn't. It risked too much for him....

He raised his eyes just a little bit, just enough to see the feet that were hanging, and the blood that dripped to the ground before he winced away from the sight.

Four would leave, and the rest would...probably die. Why was she not dissipating? It made no sense. None at all.....

He pursed his lips, and said nothing.

But he knew if it came down to it, he wouldn't leave. He would give that opportunity of survival to somebody else.

He didn't have a map, only a key that he still hadn't spoken about, so there was really nothing else he could do at that moment, except try very hard not to lose it completely.

He somehow thought that might be very counter productive to them figuring this all out.

A hiss, a sickening thunk into flesh, and the acrid, coppery smell of blood filled Aurel’s nose. All the Lesovik could do was watch in horror as the spike impaled one of the ghouls in the group. He had never seen someone die before. Not like this. Sure, he had seen animals die – it was the circle of life and all that s**t – and his Elder returned to the earth but to see someone be murdered right before his eyes was a little too much to take.

He did not know that ghoul.

That did not matter. Aurel felt his stomach bottom out and he suddenly remembered the corpse in the gown in the room he woke up in. The pungent smell of death and decay that had almost made him vomit and lose all he had – if he had anything – in his stomach. This was different. This was fresh death and the blood was soaking the debris flooded floor.

Aurel took a deep breath – which was a bad idea, and tried to steady his feet on the floor but instead felt more unbalanced and inched backward, away from where the blood could possibly touch him, and sat down on the floor.

Any questions?

There were so, so many questions. He had a feeling there would be no satisfactory answers from the Fracs.

He wanted to rip it apart. Make it feel fear. Pain. Everything. Only four to get out and get help. Aurel reached into his pocket and withdrew a crumpled map that depicted where they were, and how to get home. He placed it quietly on the floor beside him and looked up, defiantly, at the fracs.

“My only question is – If we win, do I get to tear you apart or does the pleasure go to someone else?” The question was far from his normal tone of voice – gravelly, angry, downright…menacing. It was an odd feeling – wanting to actively hurt something. His species were not a naturally violent sort. Sure, they occasionally tickled people to near death and made people’s lives hell but it was all in the name of game and sport.

He did not like this feeling. This urge to go on a rampage. The people in the room became his, at that moment. And he would protect them. Even if he couldn’t use his ability to do so. He was so ill prepared to do so.

All he knew was he would not be one of the four to escape.

Gene gave a hard scowl and the Fracs, interrupted by the incoming Remi, but resumed once he was confirmed to be alright. So they'd done this twice before? And they had to choose - or duke it out - for four of them to escape and seek help or else. Or else what?

The question was answered incredibly quickly, and Gene was not one single iota of a fan of it. The click was their warning, and she should have told them all to get down. She didn't and Amphi, sweet precious Amphi, was impaled through the stomach. Gene started forward, gasping and tearing up quickly. Amphi would be okay, she thought. They'd just pull her off the spike and wrap her up in some make-shift bandages. They'd survived worse, Amphi had been implanted with Hunter probes and such and she was still alive. At worst, she'd just dissipate back to Amity.

But she didn't. A second spike slammed into her chest, and Gene stopped in her tracks. That should have sent her dissipating, whisked off to a new pumpkin. But no, her body hung and drained itself of blood. A choked sob broke free from Gene's sternum, and she stood still, arms half way between reaching out for the ghoul and retreating in horror.

"Parker..." She hissed, head swiveling to the Fracs/ "Parker Freeman, you answer me right now." This wasn't her motherly tone, or even a scold, but an angry demanding bear. "Parker, what are you trying to pull? More of your PVP bullshit? We don't want to play with you, Parker. I don't want to play with you - I never did."

Llyr opened his mouth to say something to the boil called Ulka, intending to ask what he thought they should do, but the appearance of the creature again made him pause, Llyr turning his head towards where it stood, its mask obscuring any part of its face.

He did not like the creature. Or what it was telling him.

"You want us to...fight?" Llyr asked, frowning. "Because only four of us can leave? Is that what you're telling u - "

A small, strangled gasp escaped his throat; something was sticking out of Amphi, something that had swung down towards her and was now protruding out of her, through her back and out of her stomach. Blood spattered the floor beneath her, across her torso - and then another spike had swung, this one from the opposite direction, slamming into her. The terrible metallic smell of blood reached his nose and Llyr stretched out a hand towards her, his fingers trembling violently, his eyes wide with fear.

"No, no, no," he said firmly, hastily, almost in a panic. His shoulders had begun to shake. He stepped towards Amphi. "No, no, no, put her back, put her right - this isn't nice, stop it, she's in pain, no, no, stop it stop it - "

He had moved away from the others now, not understanding what was happening, just that he was tired of being here and wanted to go home and wanted to leave.

"Let her go," said Llyr. "Let us go."

It was perfectly sensical. Ulka had died once, before. It had been Wonderland, sure... but he'd come back from that. And it all made sense. There were so many boils and ghouls here with families, and friends... monsters who were more vested in their well being than his own. He had a family, yeah! But he wasn't going home to his Papa, and he hadn't spoken to his Mama in years. It wasn't as if he would be terribly missed.

There would be Alex, if things went south. That would be... very sad. But surely, someone would find a way to tell him. He would be upset, but there were so many important students here!

"Hey, um. E-excuse me!" Ulka called aloud, waving his paws in the air. Maybe they wouldn't listen to him, but...

"I, um. I am just going to be very honest and say that... I am not a very important bear? And I do not mind staying behind. I will not be badly missed if..." he shuddered at the thought, unable to finish his thought. He had seen the ghoul. He knew what was coming.

"Plus I am not very helpful? But I have a key! So whoever we decide can get into an important door, I think!"

ANYONE IN THE ROOM CAN REPLY Ulka is an idiot sorry

The others were reacting, speaking up, speaking out. Two were acting with open hostility and anger towards the creature, and that was to be expected, while another, the one that Mathias could now pin as a friend of Jove's, was leaning more towards upset with an edge of hysteria.

Also quite normal.

And then there was the other, the one that referred to himself as a bear, and Mathias glanced towards him, giving a small nod of his head. He understood what that one meant about not being important. Mathias could absolutely understand.

"Am not needed to anyvun on outside." That wasn't entirely true. He had friends...of a sort. Helmut, Frost in the Storm..... "If must stay so others may leave, then vill stay." There was also Jove.....

There was an area of Mathias's chest that suddenly felt quite tight, like he just couldn't quite breathe properly, but he had to ignore it. Friends. A best friend. They had only just met a few months ago and while they were close....it was confusing. Too confusing to dwell on and worry about. Jove had other creeple. He had his brother, he had other friends. Mathias was just one, and surely replaceable at that.

Unimportant.

"Vould gladly stay. Have own reasons besides." His gaze flickered towards Llyr, and he pointed to him with one black claw. "Vill stay so he can be leaving." He could tell Jove what happened, and that would take care of that.

The fracs' replies came all at once, and Bren waited through everything that was said to get the answer he wanted to hear. He leaned forward. Those who were chosen to leave would have an entire day to find someone to help the rest! Surely that was good n—

The boil stopped breathing when the first of the spikes jabbed its way through the unfamiliar ghoul's back, and he was already lightheaded when a second joined it. Still, he was sure she would just dissipate and be fine, at least until she remained there, silent and staring, for much longer than he had ever seen anyone stick around when they were as wounded as she was.

What's.... he began, his throat too dry to get his question out on his first try. "What's on the second map?" he managed. Teddy had been the one to open their box and Bren had only seen the paper he had received a copy of. Beyond that, he didn't contribute to the current conversation. He was embarrassed to admit that he was far too terrified of his fate to volunteer to stay behind, even if there was no one at Amityville who would miss him.

"No." Gene dictated to both boils, giving them hard glares and 'tut tut's', shaking her head. It wasn't the fact that they were being heroic about the situation, but their reasoning. "Don't say you aren't important or needed. Never say or think that."

She'd totally hug them and give them a come to Jacksus talk later.

“W… Why did you? How could you, she… she didn’t deserve that! I’m sure she didn’t!”
His wings bristled or tried to. Half fluffed and half bent he tried to compose himself.

“Why… why isn’t she dissipating? What did you do!?” He had to know, he just had to. “Was…was the ghoul upstairs, in the kitchen, did she start this all with us? Can you at least tell us her name so we can tell people what became of her?”

“A… and both of you shut up, no one…NO ONE.” He turned a sharp gaze at Remi, is allowed to just start saying that. He carefully picked up the map that the tree-boil had set down and looked at it, it was a simple map, but an uncomfortable one.

“We need to figure out, who of us is in the best shape to try and go for help, that’s what we need to think of before we start trying to decide…who lives and who dies… or, whatever you might call that.” His voice grew softer at the end as his eyes drifted back to the unfortunate ghoul who’d been impaled twice over, and now hung lifeless as a savage sort of warning to the nature of the ‘game’.

"I would never," Marzena spat out in disgust, "give my skin to anyone." To insinuate such a thing was an insult. Even if they didn't exactly remember the circumstances in which they had been brought here, she was absolutely sure that she would have handed her skin over willingly.

When the fracs turned to look right at her, the ghoul glared fiercely, balling her hands up in fists. And why should she follow any rules? She was about to challenge that creature; what was stopping her from leaping right up to it and--

Oh in Jack's name.

She took a step backwards in horror as the first blade pierced through the scaled ghoul. And another, and they could do nothing but to watch her life slowly fade away from her.

The thing was, she wasn't dissipating. She was just stood there, hanging from the blades that had fallen from the ceiling, blood dripping from her limp body, staining the floor. Marzena wanted to scream.

So this was what would happen if they broke the rules? Was that it? Was it trying to make a statement?

"This is no social experiment." She breathed. "This is a ******** up game." She was trembling slightly, gaze locked on the body of the now dead ghoul, and only turned around when others dared to announce that they would sacrifice themselves. Just because that thing had said only four of them could leave.

There was nothing she hated more in this entire world than anyone undermining themselves. Her kind had done so for ages, and to see others attempt to be martyrs made her sick. Maybe Marzena wasn't the most sociable, nor the kindest person. But she was pragmatic, and like hell she would be fine with dummies attempting to sacrifice themselves just so they could let others escape. To judge that who deserved to leave and who didn't.

"I know I'm not leaving till I get back what was stolen from me." She said firmly, moving towards Llyrendil, ready to yank him away if any of those spikes decided to fall at the fracs' whim. "But no one needs to try and be a ******** saint. Pachua is right. We'll figure it out when it comes down to it."

The Lesovik listened to the others being self sacrificing and shook his head. "It is not about who is going to be missed less," He finally spoke up, gathering his voice and avoiding looking at the ghoul who had suddenly made the room a butchery. "If we send those who would be missed the most, it does not mean anything for us."

Pachua's words were given a nod to. "We have four chances for all of us to escape. The jacking thing said they have a chance to go find help - which means we have a chance to survive." Fingers tapped at the escape map sitting beside him, "We must find someone who is a good swimmer. There is water. Wherever we are is on an island." Thank god the map didn't have words, or he'd be useless.

"Maybe someone who is able to track." He could, but he was injured and he knew he couldn't be much help with his broken wings. They hurt him too much to do much movement right now. He had also never had to swim and his moss hair would likely drag him down if he tried. "Someone good at finding their way, or navigating. I will be staying here. I am more use trying to protect here, if I can." He still had that steak knife, too. "Not only will I not be missed, I am not your best chance to get help. I do not know anyone."

Pause. Amrita.

He was never going to see his friend again as far as he was concerned. "...But perhaps it would be good to send letters with those who are escaped. In case."

"No," said Llyr, with a glance at the boil called Mathias. His cheeks were slightly flushed, and he looked again at Amphi, still hanging there on the spikes, the blood and life slowly dripping out of her body. "No," he said again, and shook his head, his long hair sweeping over his bare shoulders. "No, I won't leave her alone."

His expression softened a little, grew almost wistful as Llyr looked at Marzena and then at Pachua, and everyone else that he both knew and didn't know. "I am new to the school; there is little that I could do to help, and no one would realize my absence as it is. I will stay with Amphi."

Even as he was talking he was moving closer to her, his face sad.

"She needs a friend."

"Ghouls." He spat out. "Alvays thinking can tell vut to do. Nein, vill not be bossed around, vill not be told, and vill do as vanting. If I vant to stay, then I vill be staying. Have said, have own reasons, is not anyvun's business."

It didn't matter that it wasn't just the ghouls telling him he was being silly, and that he wasn't allowed to choose to stay. Still, his piece said, he looked over at Llyr, another flickering glance. Now he wanted to stay as well? Two seconds ago he was crying about wanting to go home. Mathias reached up to scratch at his hair, claws dragging down his sideburns.

"Fine, vill decide later." He huffed, taking a few, slightly springing steps towards where the others were looking at a map, one that showed where they were in comparison to everywhere else. Water (he hated water) and trees (tree's he could deal with).

"Am not good swimmer." He confessed, "Not bad but nicht gut. So-so." He figured that might rule him out right away, but in case they wanted more input on the matter.

"Forest is different. Can not fly but can climb and glide. Lived in forest before moving to Amity." Before he was forced to leave, beaten and bloodied and left on his own to forge his own life, one that seemed to always be on the brink of becoming a shambles.

He woke up alone here. Bloodied. What did that say about their last try at this? Was it these others, as the fracs- Parker- had said, who had done it? Or was it all just a mind game, as Mathias was now coming to suspect? Had they even truly done this twice before?

He didn't know what to believe anymore.

Everyone again idk

"I lived in a forest all my life. It is what I am." He offered a weak smile to Mathias. "So I know what it takes to live there. Maybe if we can build a raft?" Aurel gazed around the room - so much broken plaster. There had to be boards somewhere. "And get it out of this...place. It would make it easier for those who cannot swim to go and use other skills."

It was a thought. Who knew what was in the water, anyway? Water was always something that was a bit on the mysterious side to the Lesovik. Having never seen anything other than small pools or ponds and creeks. Nothing that would go deeper than his hips, really.

"Does anyone have building skills?" All Aurel had was hunting skills, brute strength and, apparently, leadership? Who knew.
