The moment that Teumesia saw the ravens, she nearly jumped the gun. Go. Go go go. What was taking him so long. She barely listened to the words that Infernum spoke when she exploded out from under the ledge with a flurry of feathers and fur.
All the time spent waiting was boiling pressure within the stir-crazy mare and she was long past ready to visit that energy and frustration out on the unsuspecting herd. She virtually raced Grimoire, and she could see the irritation on the little fluttercorn's face as she overtook her. It was no challenge. Teumesia was fast, absolutely fast, and with feathered wings rather than barely capable butterfly ones. She could see the tizzy that it was working the little mare into - she KNEW she wanted to play her deception games, and with the obviously aggressive pawed mare beside her it would never work. She stayed within range for a few moments, just to irk her. But in a playful gesture of good will, she veered off, heading off to the right to perhaps encounter different soquili than she.
Witseidutsei raised her head from where she had been grazing at the sound of wings flapping through the air, her ears swiveled toward the sound as she scanned the sky. For a moment, she found herself hoping, perhaps, that it would be Chandler -- but the sight that greeted her was anything but. Certainly no one from the herd, and her eyes widened in alarm when she spotted paws on the winged beast. Skinwalker! was her first thought, and for a moment she felt fear grip her body; she had never met a skinwalker who could fly before. Foxes, cats, wolves -- she'd encountered them all, but never one which had wings. It was enough to make her feel sick, to think that those beasts could be blessed with flight! They did not deserve such a gift! Fear melted away into rage; her wings spread wide as she kicked off the ground in pursuit of Teumesia.
"Stop!" she cried, and as she flew nearer to the beast Witseidutsei saw that there was something off about Teumesia. Was she really a skinwalker? It was difficult to tell where the horse ended and the pelt began; but she had the paws of the damned beasts, a wolfen face, and... how many eyes did she have? Witseidutsei shook her head and beat her wings harder to catch up. It didn't matter what it was; it was trespassing on the herd lands. It looked dangerous, enough like a skinwalker that had Witseidutsei on high alert. How had the beast slipped past the patrol? "You are trespassing here, mare!"

Grimoire positively cackled as she soared over the crest of the waterfall and grinned daggers down at the mare staring at them below and putting up a pathetic show of bravery.
Infernum and Megaera seemed to be careening towards her. Let them take her. The little sentry. Hah! She wanted to catch someone else. Someone else alone. Someone surprised...
But while Meg didn't seem to care much for words, Grimoire called down to her as she went to sail past her in her pony-sized form, wings beating furiously hoping to get ahead of the pack, "We didn't come here for PEACE!" She whinnied shrilly.
Xaviera had not noticed the tension settling across the herd; she had spotted the rain clouds, but paid them no mind, intending to enjoy the sun while it was out. They needed the rain, certainly, and looked forward to the cool water beating down on her wings, but for now all she had was the warmth of the sun on her back as she glided easily over the mountains. She raised her wings and flapped them down, catching a thermal to bring her higher up into the air -- and there, in the peripheral of her vision, she spotted the lone, unfamiliar fluttercorn. It wasn't one of theirs, was it? Xaviera squinted at the mare with a small frown; if she was new to the herd, she certainly hadn't heard about them yet. Perhaps that was the case; after all, the fluttercorn would have escorts otherwise, wouldn't she?
Smiling now, she tilted her wings to turn her easy glide toward Grimoire, intending to introduce herself. "Well, hello there," she cooed softly at the mare as she flew up along side her. "Are you new to our herd? It's grown so much, I can hardly keep track these days!" she chuckled, but the fondness in which she spoke said she didn't truly mind. She certainly helped add to their numbers herself with children of her own! "You have such lovely glowing wings. May I ask your name, dear?"
As probably one of the newest members to the herd Wynter could almost sympathize with Dubstep's predicament. She hardly knew anyone really well besides Canaan. Having him act as a guide to the land had offered Wynter a small glimpse at what the stallion was like. She would continue to accept any advice that the stallion could offer to her though. These lands that the herd had claimed seemed vast and ever changing.
Fury gave Dubstep a fleeting smile before her ears caught the strangest sound, that of a high-pitched whinny. Her head turned in the direction of the sound and watched in startled confusion as non-winged Soquili marched into the meadow.
How exactly was this possible? She had been told that those without wings were not welcome. Did this mean that these were intruders? Wynter caught sight of a purple-hued mare and marched towards her. As she neared the stranger Wynter could see that something appeared to be constantly shifting over her body. She tried to reign in her horror as her spaded tail whipped back and forth in agitation.

Diogenes rushed forward at the command, without hesitation. He wasn't as fast as Seance, but he followed her into the thick of the territory, barreling forward with his pounding, bull-like hooves and long, sharp curved horns angled forward. His eyes scanned for his first victim conquest. He would steamroll anyone who dared challenge him; and he would have no mercy.
Leonhart circled around the side of the mountain he had been patrolling, making his way back to the herd lands to do a once over when he spotted the stallion -- a wingless one, no less, and without any of his herd-mates escorting the stallion to meet Balrog and Stormwild. He frowned as he eyed the vicious horns adorning the deep blue stallion's horns and the razor-like spikes on his shoulders. He spared a glance at his familiar Zephon, who flew beside him gracefully -- he had spotted the suspicious stallion, too, and was no less concerned by it's appearance. Leonhart circled the stallion once from high above the ground before he began his descent toward the stallion.
Beside him, Zephon screeched out a warning; Leonhart quickly realized it wasn't directed at him, but the small mare below who was standing a short distance away from the approaching stallion. His heard leapt up into his throat when he recognized her -- how could he not? "Gabrielle!" he shouted down to her, tucking his legs up closer to his body to quicken his descent to the ground. His landing was swift but he hit the ground hard on his hooves in front of Diogenes, separating the stranger from his mate, his chest heaving from exertion. "Who are you?" Leonhart demanded with a threatening stomp of his hoof, his wings flared wide to make himself seem larger. "You should not be this far without an escort. This land belongs to our herd."
The rustling of the dry grass as someone walked through it had caught her attention first, but her head snapped up in alarm when she heard her mate's voice call out to her, sounding distressed. Gabrielle turned her face up to the sky to see Leonhart all but barreling down towards the earth, and for a moment she almost thought he was going to crash. But then she saw him; the large wingless stallion nearing where she stood, walking on the herd lands where no wingless beings were welcome. Her body tensed, readying herself for an attack, as Leonhart certainly seemed to think he was dangerous from the way he reacted to the stranger. She strode forward to stand beside her mate as he demanded answers from the intruding stallion, feeling a swell of pride in her chest at the diligence of her mate. She didn't understand why he seemed to think she couldn't take care of herself, though. She didn't begrudge him his worry for her safety, but it was a common thing, for others to underestimate her strength. Gabrielle played up on that now, standing behind her mate's strong stance as though she were cowering in fear -- but her eyes never left the intruder, prepared to spring into action should the situation call for it. Leonhart was strong, but she wouldn't leave him to fight alone.
Still -- she hoped this could be resolved peacefully. Being capable of fighting did not mean she enjoyed the violence.

Shinoma's eyes snapped open at the sudden spoken words, taking a quick look at the approaching birds just to confirm for her own self and then she too had taken flight, the smoky edges of her body and wings looking even more insubstantial in the air. She followed the pack as they soared and crested the waterfall, but broke off from the pack, taking a long arc around the edge of what would soon become a battlefield.
Ember peeled away from Shinoma; they had discussed the hawk keeping an eye on her children and reporting at once should they be in trouble, but for now Shinoma was hunting..and the hawk knew to keep out of her way.
The mare wheeled around, her tail whistling through the air as she scanned the ground, and she caught sight of one of the ground attackers, a large fellow with curved horns. He was facing off against a winged stallion, but just behind was a winged mare and she grinned, diving groundwards and landing heavily a wings breadth from the mare...
As soon as the ravens appeared and Infernum gave the order, Lycaenidae shrunk in size and fluttered her way up, up, and up -- over the raging waterfall of blood (was it blood? was it water? it was deep red one moment and then clear the next), watching her sister speed ahead in her eagerness. She giggled, feeling giddy from the excitement and the battle to come. Oh, such fun it would be! She kept low to the ground, her small form aiding her in keeping out of sight as she crept by where Infernum and Legion were facing off against a silly mare. While the sight intrigued her and she wished to stay and watch to see what would happen, Lycaenidae looked forward to finding one of the precious winged ones of her own to play with.
Trochilidae was not far behind, flitting from flower to flower, sampling the sweet nectar to be had -- but none of it was quite satisfying. He hoped Lycaenidae would choose a victim soon; he was hungry, and the only nectar that he truly found satisfaction in was the nectar of life, the sweet blood that flowed in the veins of their enemies. It would come soon, he knew; there were many here ripe for the picking.
Lycaenidae's golden eyes widened when she spotted her target. Black smoke seemed to surround them, seen only by her delusional eyes, and she knew -- this was the one. Yes. They were perfect. Such a lovely coat! But what did they look like underneath, she wondered? Lycaenidae smiled as she fluttered closer to her chosen victim, growing back into her full size. "Hello," she whispered softly with a tilt of her head, observing the other soquili. "I love your eyes. May I have them?"

Rephaim was just returning from gathering berries and other fruits when he saw them -- he'd had to travel further than usual to find healthy food to gather due to the drought, scavenging what he could find -- a large group of soquili flying up along the waterfall to the herd lands, many of them fearsome looking, many of them Kalona. He swallowed down his fear, knowing this could only be one thing -- an attack. He had to warn the others!
Before he could turn away, however, he spotted one of their own -- Stormfall -- being cornered by three of the attackers, and for a brief moment Rephaim hesitated as he tried to decide what to do. Warn the herd or help Stormfall?
It was an easy choice. Rephaim dove down toward the attackers surrounding Stormfall, shouting to try and distract them and draw their attention away from her, if only for a moment. He saw the fiery black Kalona crush into Stormfall, and Rephaim aimed his body toward her, flying at full speed, aiming to crash into Megaera and knock her away.
Megaera watched as her son, her pride, Infernum missed with his initial attack against the maroon mare. She frowned, angered and embarrassed for him. But it was just the opening fire of what would be a great battle. And Infernum had made no secret of his charge.
But when the unusual alicorn dodged her son, she left herself open for her own attack. While not nearly as large as her massive son, Megaera did not lack in spirit. She didn't hesitate for a moment and swooped in for a blow of her own. Unlike Infernum, she made no attempts to put her entire weight and force behind it. Instead, she skimmed in quickly for a glancing blow - but still a blow with the force of her flilght - on Stormfall... continuing her trajectory back up and never landing.

Infernum was furious with himself for missing with his initial attack, but more angry that he had telegraphed his move so broadly. He underestimated his opponent, and that was a rookie mistake. He had flown with his herd, participated in hunts, but truth be told - as bold and competant as Infernum was, war was a new thing to this soldier.
He landed hard on his front hooves as the mare dodged deftly out of the way, leaving him shaken with the impact that was supposed to be soft flesh and not hard earth. But he saw, as he shook hsi head and shook out his legs that his mother was hot on his tail, swooping by for a second pass when the mare had already expended her efforts with dodging. He smiled, his humiliation passing. War was certainly not a solo endeavor.
He looked up to see a purple-spotted white winged soquili heading quickly after them and his ears lay back as he saw the way he was headed. No. No that would not do. His mother was quicker than he, perhaps, but not nearly as solidlly buit. He kicked up, gunning to interpose himself between Megaera and Rephaim with the force of his strength and bulk.

Psyche was hot on the tail of the flying eye, curiousity driving her even more than bloodthirstiness or boiling blood that fueled most of her herdmates. It was quick the... well, she wasnt' quite sure WHAT it was - and instead of running it was heading deeper into the herdgrounds. Undoubtedly a messenger.
It bobbed and waved, looking like it was trying to lose her - but she smiled. Instead it was losing time in getting to its destination. Psyche, like her mother Megaera, was slenderly built and moderately quick and as soon as she gained on it, she stretched out her neck and grabbed it by a wing before angling downwards where she could examine it on the ground.

I spoke to you in AIM about psyche catching it - but just wanted to post here to let peoples know I OK'd ahead of time Psyche being able to grab a hold of it so as to not sound like I'm godmodding ^_^

Stormfall's body took the brunt of the blow from the descending Kalona mare as she literally buzzed over Stormfall's head. Her opponent had taken the opportunity to strike at her in a moment were she had been vulnerable and open to attack. Pain radiated from an area on her back and Storm grit her teeth to push through it. Her legs trembled briefly having been forced to impact the ground in an awkward position. The good thing was that her wings had not been struck in the opening volley. She would be no help to anyone if she was taken out of battle with one hit and that was a likely scenario if her ability to fly was taken away from her.
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts and reassess her position Stormfall caught sight of another flier arcing towards the ground. However this one she knew; it was Rephaim. Stormfall still had to keep her wits about her as she realized who Rephaim was targeting. But to her horror the burly stallion was now targeting Rephaim. She was about to enter the aerial battle to assist the angeni stallion before her gaze locked onto the strange white stallion. Her gaze narrowed on the intruder. He was the unknown factor that could swing the battle back to the side of the invading group. Keeping the stallion in sight Stormfall shook of any remaining vestiges of the earlier strike and readied herself to fly back into the fray. ---
Flapping its wings in a frantic pace, Stormfall's winged companion could just make out an opening in the distance. The target area was in sight. However all of the weaving and dodging it had been doing in an attempt to shake the mare on its figurative tail had done nothing. It was almost there, almost home free though. Surely nothing could catch it; not now. The creature put on an extra burst of speed but found itself sinking to the ground before it could really get moving again. It was trapped. One of its wings was caught in the mare's teeth. Awkwardly it flapped the wing that was still free, trying to pull free as the red-colored eye came to focus on the blue mare holding it captive. It had failed.

That's okay Sabin. (( to everyone else. I did give the OK for Psyche to catch Stormfall's "messenger" ))
Diogenes snorted as the first Soquili to engage him was a pale colored winged Kalona mutt. In another world, at a different time, perhaps Diogenes would have felt some kind of kinship, some kind of camaraderie, with this mare. A half-breed, like himself, but marred with Kalona heritage...
... but not today. He snorted and pawed at the ground with his bulllike hooves, dropping his horns and preparing to charge. Right before he pushed off, a stallion landed in front of him, kicking up dirt into his face.
He didn't bother to answer his demand of who he was. He lowered his head and again and lurched forward, aiming squarely for the black and pink flying stallion.
He was aiming for brute impact, not any carefully considered plan of attack. Whether his horns would impale through his neck and chest, or perhaps get him tangled in them, he didn't care. He would just steamroll forward however they hit. He had never directly fought a winged creature before, unaware of exactly how agile they were, or how they could move.
A growl-like roar rumbled from his chest as he rushed forward, his hooves pounding so hard on the ground it almost made it shake.

Seance's coils expanded when the Kalona mare spoke to her. She heard Diogenes barrel in behind her, but she paid him no mind. He was distracted by these two other Soquili, so maybe this one was hers.
"I am Seance!" she said, with a grin that was hard to determine if it was sincere or not. "I am here to take your home," she said, so matter-of-factly and with an oddly friendly tone.
Grimoire could hardly contain her enthusiasm. This. This is exatly what she wanted. The deception. The game. Plastering on her best "I'm a sweet, naive fluttercorn" face, she flitted over to the striped mare.
"Oh yes!" She bubbled and trilled, "These lands are so nice, and everyone is so welcoming!" She strained her voice a little more than she needed, seeming like she was having a little trouble talking and flying at the same time. "I'm Grimoire! Why don't -puff- why dont' we talk down there?" She said with a nod to the lush ground below them that seemed a little isolated. Hopefully, they'd be away from others who might notice, and Grimoire felt much more confident on the ground than in the air. Especially for her 'trick'.
