Everything up until this point had been disheartening, but it wasn't until the boil announced that nobody would want to be her friend that she actually hurt. She had been about to yell at him again, about how no, he was the stupid one, but those words silenced her immediately. Her mouth simply hung open, her droopy eyes widening as she registered what she was hearing. Then, finally, she lowered her head.
"N-no I'm n-not!" She whimpered out, her voice muffled as her hands came up to wipe at her face. "Y-you're just---" The ghoul hiccupped and shifted to pull her knees up, hugging them to her chest. "I'M N-NOT PUSHY!" She wailed into her knees, squeezing her legs tightly.

Li Shou felt a chill run up his spine at her shaky denial, his ears standing on end. Hesitantly, he turned back around to look at the ghoul.
The ghoul he'd just emotionally wrecked.
It was a predicament he hadn't really been in before. Both of his sisters were older than him. Old enough (and strong enough) that they almost never cried... Or, at least, he had never seen them cry.
All at once he felt an overwhelming sense of guilt well up in his stomach, almost making him sick after just eating. But why should he feel that way? She WAS pushy. He had been telling the truth!
Helmut had also been nice to him, though. She made him dinner and gave him warm (peasant) clothes to wear. Out of all the ways the day could've ended, he hadn't wanted it to end like this.
Nervously, Li Shou dropped his basket and shoved his hands into the pockets of the hoodie as he tried to think of a metaphorical bandage to place on the situation. He didn't want to open his mouth, because that was the very thing that got him into the situation in the first place.
What did he do when he cried?
OH.
The cat sidhe reached into his basket gingerly and pulled out the plush toy he had been carrying with him, silently approaching the ghoul and tapping her shoulder as if she might break. This would help, right?

Helmut had thought he'd already left. He hadn't said anything, so she simply assumed that he was long gone. She stayed put though, holding her knees and whimpering unhappily, mumbling things to herself in an attempt to feel better. When something touched her shoulder, she startled with a loud yelp, her head snapping up to stare at the perpetrator.
"...Shoebox?" Helmut sniffled out in surprise, though incredibly hesitant surprise. He was going to make fun of her some more, wasn't he? She looked him up and down and leaned back a little bit, wiping her face on her sleeve. "Whatd'youwan?"

Li Shou didn't say anything, he simply held out his plush doll to her, glancing away as if he was ashamed by his actions. It was a peace offering. A hesitant peace offering.
Just stop crying Helmut, gdi.

Helmut stared at the plush, and then at the boil, and back again. The creature looked as hesitant to accept it as he was to offer it, but at least she recognized it for what it was. Why else would he offer it, after all? Then, slowly, she reached out with a tiny set of claws to accept the plush, and with the same amount of slow care she drew it closer to herself, nestling it between her chest and knees for a tight hug.
"Thank you." The ghoul grumbled, looking at her knees. There were still tears in her eyes and her face was strangely flushed, but her breathing was starting to even out, her hiccups coming less and less frequently.

Had it worked?
Well... S-sort of. Li Shou's cheeks warmed at her gratitude, quickly grabbing his things once again and scuttling off to the door. "W-whatever. You can borrow him for now..." He expected his doll back, after all. More than likely just like she expected her clothes back.
The demon opened his mouth as if to shout something back at her, but instead mumbled it quietly to himself. "You're still stupid.."

Helmut hadn't heard him. If she had, she would have snarked right back. But as it were she said nothing, simply watching the boil leave. When the door closed she grabbed the plush and threw it to the ground as if it embodied everything that had upset her. She left it there on the floor, sad and alone, and cleaned up after their dinner. The plush was ignored for the most part, and she often walked right by it, but once everything was clean and she had changed into some pyjamas, she found herself looking at it.
Then she found herself standing over it and staring down at it as if unsure what to do with it until, finally, she leaned down to scoop it up. The small ghoul held the doll like it were a precious thing, cradling it close to her chest.
"M'sorry, kitty." She apologized to the plush as if it would hear her, and then crawled into bed with it, putting it on her lap to read to it before it was bed time. Then, even though it smelled like that stupid boil, she cuddled with it until she fell asleep.
