Three misses in a row. Glossbones threw away the stick in favor of honey. He caught more honey that way. Knocking over a hive, he covered himself and ran with reckless abandon.

His tail whacked into something -- a muffled honk confirmed it as a goose -- but he didn't have time to tail if it was down or not. He charged onward.

How many birds had died now? How many were left? How many kin were competing here? Faster supposed the prize did not matter so much; they would all feast (the geese, he thought, outnumbered the competitors; and many kin did not eat their entire kills in a day) tonight. Still, it was a matter of pride.

Well, this wasn't working. Glossbones resorted to petty attempts. He stole an egg and taunted the group of geese, threatening to smash it if they didn't come to him. He was sure they understood him. Desperation is a universal language.

Still he tried, even though his vision was a little blurred. There were dashing colours and a chorus of honks and the noises of kin everywhere, making it hard to see if he had actually caught anything or not.
