Which in truth, is not so far from the truth of Abaddon's creation. Nearly a million and a half years ago, in the early dawn of a world known as Giana, the shadow of the Shadow King grew a sense and semblance of sentience. This was nothing new, as over the billions of years that Shadow has been a sentient force of the universe, Hidenori created hundreds of thousands of sentient shadows that spread across the cosmos to touch as many places as they could and bring him entertainment through what he could see through their forms.
What marked Abaddon as different was his refusal to be cast away. While other shadows came and went, Abaddon stuck stubbornly to the King and frequently entertained Hidenori by popping up in various places on his person. For a little over a million years, Hidenori had his shadow who refused to leave. In many ways, Abaddon was the first true friend Hidenori ever knew, who was not in some way related to him.
Nearly four hundred and fifty thousand years ago, during the final formations of Hell for the balance of the youthful world of Giana, Hidenori miscalculated something rather terribly. Though the Shadow King was incapable of dying, the young Embodiment was desperately trying to keep to a singular form. Reconstruction was something he still had trouble with and he had grown very fond of the body he had built. He had no wish to lose this one and, thanks to Abaddon's interference, he did not.
The Sentient Shadow used itself to plug the wounds and seal the flesh back together, impregnating itself with the blood of the Shadow King and thus altering the reality of its existence. Unwittingly, the shadow absorbed the one thing that could give a creature of its ilk a true life and formation. As the literal blood of shadows flowed through it, Abaddon changed. Hidenori named the new creature the First Knight of Hell and, after some experimentation, they solidified what Abaddon is to this day. Neither man nor beast, Abaddon is truly the Shadowhand itself.
Though if you want to stretch reality a bit you could say shadows. Literally, any shadow ever. Let's not stretch reality, it's probably not good for overall existence.
Over the course of his many years, Abaddon has always kept his heart close. To share in himself has always meant to invite someone into a dark and dangerous world. The Shadowhand plays roles that are not always easily understood or accepted even by those who dwell within the walls of Hell itself. It takes a very particular mindset to accept that Abaddon will not change or soften himself even for the ones he loves and an even stronger mindset to understand that not even a faithful mate or a child will ever hold a stronger sway over Abaddon than the Shadow King himself. Hidenori will always be the strongest voice in Abaddon's decisions, which is something many are not willing to abide.
There have of course been exceptions to this rule. Demons and others who saw something in Abaddon that was worth even the darkest of truths. These were the ones that lingered more than a night, the ones that stayed for several years before choosing to move on to someone who could devote their everything to the relationship, without the ever looming shadow of the King of Hell himself. Cresil and Kasdeya, who each lasted five years, Lebara who stayed for seven and Paimon who lingered for nearly ten. All held fast to Abaddon for a time and were all released with a quiet grace when they chose to turn away.
The time of lovers coming and going had seemed to find an end in Belial. The Shadowtongue was as much of a power as Abaddon himself and like Abaddon, held Hidenori above everything else. The shadow party in their relationship was an equal one, one they both readily and quietly acknowledged and accepted. They worked together, had been friends and colleagues for almost as long as they had been alive. In the end, their attraction and dedication to one another was almost a written thing, a twining of fate itself.
They were lovers for nearly five hundred years before they decided to have a child. In their line of work, it had never been a question. Yet Hell was softening. The King had found a sense of peace and it was spreading through the land like a gentle plague, cleansing darker corners. Retirement was finally before them, and with the Kingdom's Castle as their home it made sense to build something new. Something bright in the land that was finally restoring to the old ways so many had forgotten and so many more thought to be mere myth and legend.
Shortly after Adramelech was born between them, treason and treachery burst forth. A series of unfortunate events resulted in the two most trusted of Hidenori being labelled traitors and fiends. They were chased from the Kingdom while the King's back was turned, for crimes they did not commit. There was enough time to bring Adramelech to the safety and protection of an old friend, unaffiliated with Hell, when something far greater took place.
The very world upon which they all had lived, the very planet itself was destroyed in what is now known as the End Day. Though Abaddon managed to cling to his existence in the shadows of space itself, locked to life by both the will to live and the very nature of his creation, Belial was not so lucky nor so strong. Lover lost, and no notion of how his child or his friend may have survived, Abaddon clawed his way to Hidenori's side once more, in a new Hell upon a new planet's planes. Upon his arrival, the birth of the newest title was founded for the few who bore it's right as a Survivor of Giana.
Abaddon is ruthless and unfeeling when it comes to his job. He will not hesitate to take down a target, regardless of age or gender. Perhaps the most vicious aspect of this is that not even children or pregnancy will stop him from taking down what he has been ordered to take out. Abaddon holds nothing but the most ferocious loyalty to his boss, and he will stop at nothing to see that man's goals completed.
Yet for all his cruelty comes a bountiful array of good qualities. For those who earn his respect and care, Abaddon is a fierce friend and a loyal defender. When not on a job, he is gentle with children and kind toward anyone who approaches him. He is incredibly intelligent and uses that intellect as a shield between himself and his emotions more often than not, which helps him when he is on a case.
