Nic's own calmness altered Roger's body language and he nodded, smiling. He turned back to Sissy and offered a sad shrug.
"I think we're done for tonight, Sis."
The barmaid tutted and shook her head
"I know, I know. I still have some work to do, you don't mind, do you?" he said, and turned to Nic to address his question. "I do have to show you that sword..."
Sword. Really? Of all the things he could have offered. Laughter danced at the inside of his lips, but he refused and covered it with the clearing of his throat. Sissy now turned to Nic, arching a brow.

"Sorry sorry, just a bit of a lightweight." Nic laughed, hoping to soothe the woman's disapproval. "Plus I've got work to be done in the morning, and I'm sure you do too, huh?"
Well, it was a little bit of a lie, but ah well, to be done with it.
"I don't mind at all, and I'd almost forgotten! Good of you to remind me. If you don't mind showing me of course, if I like it enough I might have to ask you to make me one." Noticing Sissy's expression, he laughed. "Can't be too safe in these days. Especially when I'm going out into the woods so often."

So not only was Nic attractive, he was a good sport. Having reigned himself in, Roger nodded and turned to Sissy, who still looked a bit disappointed.
"I'm sorry, Sis. I'll bring him in again some time so he can tell you how gorgeous you are and spirit you away from me, hm?"
Sissy smiled and shook her head. "He should be so lucky. Have a good night, boys. Good luck with your work!"
She was distracted then by a young man tugging on her skirt, a ride but somehow expected gesture for her attention. She turned and let it happen, placing her wide array of beverages down on the table for the group. They descended like wild dogs.
"Probably a good time to leave anyway," Roger admitted, looking to the young men as he fished in his pocket. He lay a couple of coins on the table and turned again to Nic, offering a charming smile.
"Shall we?"

"We'll be back some other night for sure." Nic nodded, giving his best smile to her before standing, watching her getting pulled away by the rest of the patrons. It didn't take too long before he added another coin or so to the table, carefully, before giving Roger a nod.
"Yeah, the night may still be young, but I don't think I'm up to much more of that." He nodded, giving a sigh. "Now, let's get back and have a look at that fine blade you've worked so hard on."

Roger could only laugh in response as they exited the tavern.
"Come now. I make more swords than not!" His face twisted then as he dug his hole deeper, and he threw his face and palms up at the sky. He just couldn't win. 'Well, swords... sometimes have... wooden... I'm just going to stop."
He shook his head and took a rather selfish pat at Nic's back, meant to be a friendly reassurance but acting as a brief point of contact either way. Even the suggestion of warm flesh beneath his shirt was enough to stir that warm tingling again. He'd even seen that flesh, he remembered, when he had visited Nic this latest time.
Imagine, finding someone interested in him after so long.
"So. My shop is closer, but I don't mind taking you home and walking back. Whatever you're more comfortable with."
He didn't dare imply that he would be staying, even for tea. That'd be far too presumptuous and indulgent.

"Stop while you're ahead why don't you?" Nic teased. He'd be the one making wooden swords after all. Roger's would be made of iron and steel. But ah, no use digging himself a hole.
The pat on his back was just enough of a reminder, but Nic was still being careful to watch how he acted. It may be night, but there could still be plenty of eyes and ears about. He laughed instead, giving just enough of a glance and smile to say that he didn't mind.
It had been years, after all. Just knowing there was someone he could talk to, that he wasn't alone, was enough.
"Ah, if you wouldn't mind walking me back that would be fine. I really can be a lightweight."
Perhaps he's have to invite him in for tea, just enough to get somewhere to talk more freely.

"Absolutely," Roger nodded. He had offered, after all. It was a bit disappointing to not see the fruits of having invited someone back to your own place, but he would simply have to deal with it. There was no use rushing things. Nic was a good friend when he was nothing else, and it wouldn't do to ruin it.
There was a part of him that wished he had brought more weaponry on their trip. It wasn't as if men at bars were any threat, or even wolves in such a populated area, but he felt somehow exposed at the moment and it was nothing a knife in his boot could stifle. With happiness came paranoia, but the happiness always won out in him.
"It's no trouble. Besides, Farthir probably would have knocked you down when he saw us coming. He's not the brightest, that one. Alter his schedule just a little and he loses his mind."

"Though perhaps you'd like to stay for a while? Have a bit of tea to make sure neither of us wake up with a hangover tomorrow?" He offered in return, keeping the slightest bit quiet just in case. With tea would come conversation...And frankly Nic wouldn't mind talking a little more.
"Riven's usually out this time of night, and even if she was home she's no bother. Likes keeping to herself and all." He hummed, laughing a little at the mention of Farthir knocking him over. He probably could, though Nic would put up the slightest bit of protest to it.

Roger's eyebrows rose. Stay for a while? A smile crossed his face and he nodded as he clasped his hands behind his back.
"It's be a pleasure," he nodded, and then shrugged. "I've lived with a Guardian so long, they don't really bother me. Besides, they don't have thumbs to shimmy locked doors open. Farthir will heave himself against them on occasion, but eventually he forgets."
They crossed a couple on the street, and Roger didn't feel so strange any more.
"Of course, magical deer aren't at the forefront of my mind right now."

Nic saw the smile out of the corner of his eye, and couldn't help but return it. Conversation it was! At least without the worry of getting caught, and being able to take their time, various things like that...Things he really....didn't have experience with, though perhaps Roger knew better.
"Ah, they don't bother me either, though the thought of getting knocked down is interesting. Never met one who's tried, though perhaps I'll stop by more to see you work. I'm sure there's some more things I could use your services for." Maybe that way Farthir would get used to him, and he wouldn't be sent tumbling down.
"What's on your mind then? Or should we wait until we can discuss over some tea?"

"I have to dull his antlers, if that's any indication. He doesn't seem to mind you, though," Roger shrugged. There was always a possibility that the brute knew more than his Chosen, but that didn't seem like a bad thing. A brow arched when Nic posed his question, however, and Roger tilted his head.
While looking away, his face flushed red. How inappropriate, really. He shook his head and turned back to Nic, the blush already dissipating.
"Just for the sake of freedom, perhaps we should wait for tea. For now, tell me more about your Guardian. What is it she does all night?"

"Ah, I suppose I got off lucky getting a doe." He teased, grinning to himself a little. "But I suppose if he doesn't mind me, he'd best get used to having me about." Oh he planned to be about, especially if that one particular tool had broken. The others would soon be on their way to ruin as well...That's how it always worked.
He watched his friend flush red, and felt his own heart skip a beat. Oh really now Roger. Really.
"Ah, till tea it is. Fine then." He breathed, smiling as he looked up at the night sky. "Not really sure where she goes off to. She just off and disappears. Found her carrying blankets one night, not mine, mind you, and let her go off on her business. Keep on hearing about this mysterious benefactor to the poor around town though. Would explain why she doesn't go out much in the daytime."

"Planning to be about, are we?" Roger laughed. His spirits were high.
"I'll be glad to fix anything that needs fixing. I don't imagine a job like yours is especially easy on your tools." He listened to the explanation of Riven's disappearances and seemed honestly impressed.
"If we can get them together, I imagine Farthir would enjoy her company. He fancies himself a knight errant, which is probably entirely my fault. TO his credit, he has achieved some amount of heroism in the past, but lacking any trouble to dispel he just... wanders around and gets himself in trouble." The blacksmith shook his head, but his smile was still fond.
"Perhaps she could teach him something better to do with his time."

"I know my tools well enough to know that the rest will soon start breaking." Nic replies with a sigh, though his smile remained. "You'll be seeing a lot of me, I had a year where they all broke one day after another. I just hope it's not the exact same thing this year."
"Ah, she's only really had one other she's liked being around, so it'd be interesting. One of my customers had a buck, and those two got along swimmingly, I think. They rather took to each other."
"But perhaps she can teach him something. We'll see."

Roger nodded. He wouldn't much mind fixing a new tool every day, really. It wasn't a surprise to hear that someone may not get along with Farthir, either. He was a special kind. He got on a lot of nerves.
"That's good, at least. Everyone needs a friend, hm? I'd try anything once. Tonight, though, he just... relented. it was pretty impressive actually. Maybe he knew?" Knew what? Roger's over-the-shoulder glance and smirk seemed to imply something, but it appeared soft, not inappropriate.
