"Wait....what?!" Kai dropped his cards in shock. "Nero!"
What was going on? Yeah, they had been talking about the circus at lunch, but Nero just up and deciding to join up still felt like it was out of left field. Kai looked at the door, and down at his cards....and back at the door...
"I'm sorry Ronan! I have to forfeit!" Kai left all of his stuff on the table and dashed out the door.
"Nero! Wait!!!!"

Rory and Dashner had been conversing about the school day when Nero had tromped in, made his circus announcement and stomped back out. Rory looked at Dashner, and Dashner looked at Rory.
Rory raised an eyebrow.
"So, has joining the circus gone viral or something? Is it, like, a meme? Are all the ghoul kids doing it?! Ugh, I wish I went to your school so much!"

"No... I mean uh... I don't think so... Everything is just messed up it seems, bro."
Dashner ran his hand through his fauxhawk doo to keep it up, and looked at the table. What was UP with everybody?
"I don't understand. Nero, of all monsters, would NEVER stop talking about music to join a CIRCUS!"

"Looks to me like he just did." Rory shrugged and sipped his pumpkin moancha drink. "I guess I can see the appeal. Being in a circus, excitement every night, performing under the big top...no overbearing mother micromanaging your entire day...."

This was her only real day off from work this week, yet Marceline decided she wanted to hit up her job, the Coffin Bean, for a scream tea while she did her homework. She narrowly missed being barreled down by Kai Merha as he stormed out the cafe for whatever reason, and approached the counter.
"I'll take me Vein-ti Scream Tea Latte, Char-lene!" She smiled at the fire elemental ghoul running the register. Char-lene scribbled her name on the side of the cup and passed it to the boorista, snidely nodding to Marceline that the drink was on the house, as per the usual. With her Advanced Mad Science textbook firmly tucked under her arm and her cup gripped in her bony fingers, Marceline scanned the cafe for an open table. The Spellbound Club was having their first real meeting of the scaremester, as they usually did here, minus one player who had just egressed moments ago. Then her eye caught Dashner, who had begun enthusiastically waving to her upon sight... and just behind him, hovering over a pumpkin moancha latte, was Rory. Marceline tried in vain to resist letting a huge grin spread across her face, and speedwalked to the table, paying no mind to the scalding hot green foam that spilled over the edge of her cup as she strode.
"Rory! ... and Dashner!"She squeaked on Rory's name a bit, and after clearing her throat she smiled at him. "I didn't think you'd be here! What a s'rprise!"

"Marcy!" Rory beamed, his parental woes briefly forgotten. He stood up and pulled out a seat for her across from him. "Careful, you should set something down! Balancing heavy books and hot drinks is dangerous!"
With Marceline safely seated, Rory sat back down across from her.
"So tell me all about your day at school! Was it as uhh-mazing as I imagine it was?"

Dashner raised his eyebrow when Marceline seemed to be less estatic about seeing Rorrim more than him.
Dashner nodded slowly. "Hello there, Marceline." Her name accidentally came out more like a bitter spat than a real address, yet he didn't realize it. He also didn't realize he actually used her real name...
Dashner shifted in his seat as Marceline dragged on about her day. Rorrim seemed much more interested to hear what Marceline had to say rather than Dashner. He bit his lip and continued to look interested in hearing the whole school day over again.

Marceline set her textbook down with a resonating THUD on the table. The Advanced Mad Science book for this scaremester was easily the biggest one she'd ever been issued; just lugging it from the doomitories to the Coffin Bean made her feel hexhausted! She resolved from then on to do her AMS homework in the dooms only. But, for now, homework could wait.
She graciously accepted the chair Rory had pulled out for her, setting down her scream tea. The whipped scream on her drink had deflated from her hastened pace, and had dribbled down the side of the mug; she scrambled to scoop up a dollop with her finger.
"It's nothin' really!" Marceline sighed. "What with workin' here I spill hot coffee all the time. I'm used to it, really."
Having a sip of her scream tea, she winced at the temperature; Char-lene had a serious tendency to oversteam lattes, a habit Marceline had desperately tried to break her of, though in vain. So while she waited for it to cool down a bit, she rested her head against her hand and gazed happily across the table at Rory. Her mind had wandered to thoughts about him all day, and it was nice to be able to fang out with him like this.
"Uhh-mazing wouldn't be the word I would use," Marceline laughed. "It was all syllabus review, and I've got Mr. Hack for a double-feariod lab class which he used for an extra-long lecture right from the start! And meanwhile in Home Ick we're dancin' around doin' the safety dance and I just wanna get to cookin' y'know? And then there was that thing with Lin..." She bit her bottom lip, realizing she was rambling like she often tended to do. "I'm sorry, Rorrim... here I am goin' on and on about my day... how was yours?"

The Spellbound tryouts had wrapped for the afternoon, and many of the kids who wanted to join the school club had performed admirably. Some, unfortunately, had not and unfortunately, would most likely not be allowed to formally join up.
Glen, of course, would have been willing to let anyone who played join the club, but Toralei stressed to him that if they let 'losers' join, then their standing in the local and Mashionals competitions would decrease dramatically. Unfortunately, that wasn't something that Glen could deny. Still, Glen was planning to talk to Skelly and Eyera and the few others who pretty much got obliterated by their opponents and offer some help in advancing their game playing skills.
`Cause, that's just who he was, y'know?
Still, the results were overshadowed still by the second student in a single day quitting school to join, the CIRCUS!?
Glen gathered up his cards into his case and after a quick good-bye to Chase who had also shown up to play, hurried over to Toralei.
"Wow. I still can't believe Nero did that!" Glen exclaimed, shaking his head as Toralei passed him the results sheet for the evening's games.
"Forget Nero." Toralei sneered. "If he wants to do that to himself, then let him. No school. No SKRM..."
"SKRM!" Glen blurted out, looking up from the papers with wide eyes. "I forgot all about that!"
"It's not as if the team actually needs him." Toralei said, glancing back at the twins who nodded in agreement. "Besides, we have bigger things to think about."
Glen still did not seem convinced. Nero was one of his bluddies and now he was worried about what had come over him. It was not like him at all to simply give up on anything art related for any reason -- let alone to join the circus.
Glen said, "Well, I have to run to Kai's to talk to his dad before he leaves town." He held up the paper and smiled as best he could for all things considered. "Meet you in the libury for Study Howl to discuss the hits and misses?"
"Mmm, sounds good." Toralei purred. "I think its time for te kitties to do a little prowling."
With that, the three werecats pickd up their cards and headed out into the dusk. Glen exited the Coffin Bean after a friendly farewell to the rest of the club and Clawdeen. He pulled out his iCoffin and dialed a number...
"Hi, mom? Hi! ... I just wanted to let you know Kai said his pop wanted to talk to me about something so I'm going to swing by there before I head home. ... No, I don't think I did anything to his lab. ... Recently. ... ha! Such a kidder! I'll be home soon! Love you too! Bye!"
He hopped onto his skateboard and rocketed off for the Merha manor!

"uh.. " Ronan watched Kai rush out, shrugging and picking up his own cards, shuffling them back into the deck. Forfeit was hardly a win, but at least it meant he didn't have to sit here while Kai battled with his decision making skills. Even the werecats seemed unsure about the whole situation, they'd stopped giggling and like Ronan, watched Nero and then Kai rush out the door. Ronan was almost relieved, but more he was just confused. That was quite some circus if it was preferable to Monster High. Was school really THAT bad?
Shaking his head, Ronan stood and moved to order a drink and something to eat at long last.

Rory, Dashner and Marceline chatted for hours over their drinks as the rest of the students filtered out when Spellbound Club's meeting wrapped. Rory complained about his mother, told them some of the more interesting Hiss-tory events they'd covered in the four hour marathon class session and even pulled out some stories of other monsters he'd seen in the mirrors over the last few days.
It was a nice, relaxing way to forget about the fight he'd had with his mother, and he was so happy to have some attention from his peers (especially Marceline) that he didn't even notice as Dashner got quieter and quieter as the night treaded onward.
Soon, the cups were empty and Char-lene and Clawdeen were putting away the sugar and creamer from the condiment table.
"Woah, time flies. I guess we've been here longer than I thought." Rory realized, looking down at his long-empty cup. "I should be getting home, I guess. Tomorrow's class is Trigular Calculometry." Rory made a face.
"Thanks for the drink again, Dash. Next time it'll be my treat. Maybe we can go out after your SKRM practice tomorrow? I know your first game's coming up pretty quick." Rory's attention was back on Marceline.
"I-" Before he could say anything else, he vanished. Clearly, Rory's mother had called him to go to bed.

With Spellbound wrapping up, Ronan bid a subdued farewell to the rest of the group who mostly seemed to ignore him. Then turned his attention to Ascreama and Meme. Meme seemed to be in a foul mood, which surprised him. It wasn't right to see a clown scowling like that. He moved to join them at their table. "Either of you have any idea what's so appealing about the circus suddenly?"

Meme's eyes widened in shock as a muscular monster burst through the doors and shouted to the world that he was joining the circus. Her fowl mood peaked as he left the building and she recoiled in horror as the scene continued before her; the monster playing against Ronan jumped up and chased out the doors. "What the flying-cream-cake was that about?" She asked rather loudly, breaking the stunned silence at her table. The selkie boo joined them, a look of utter confusion upon his face.
Meme's upper lip curled in dismay, "As a matter of fact, the circus is magical and mesmerising and marvellous, thank-you-very-much!" She retorted indignantly, feeling hurt by the remark. She paused for a moment, sweeping crumbs from her shorts. "However.. Something's not right. As fantastamagically-fabulous as the circus is, no body really just 'runs away to join'. It's usually run-aways from un-happy homes, or spoilt killdren trying to punish their parents. They're usually sent home or go back of their own accord after seeing it's hard work and not just fun and games," She picked at her fingernails nervously, "I wonder what Headmistress has to say about this?"

"Oh i'm sure it is.. fun.." He recoiled a little at Meme's snapping. "It does seem strange though... Perhaps it's a particularly good circus?" He was grasping at straws, but he was now curious what the attraction was.

"Sorry Ronan, Meme's in a bit of a frump. It's just been a long day for everyone I think.." Ascreama mumbled, but shot her crabby clown friend a look that said 'What's wrong?' She was deeply concerned for Meme who was usually so happy-go-lucky and spontaneous. "Maybe it's time we head back to the dooms? A nice hot bath might help relax you a bit, my crotchety bluddie." Ascreama teased and handed her a paper bag full of sweet painstries. "These will help for sure! I also have homework already.." She explained with a frown, it wouldn't be long before homework and projects began piling up so now was the best time to get it done!
