Mustering up what strength he had Kieyrr bolted forward and threw a punch at the fog being. It landed, but at the cost of feeling like his hand was being shattered to pieces.

One last kick and the shadowy figure dissipated, leaving the disoriented young man to collapse back against the ground, breathing heavily. It took him a few moments to realize the faces had disappeared as well, and he struggled slowly to his feet.
Maybe this wasn't the safer route after all.

Wearily, he continued onward. He felt drained, the surge of dark emotions both troubling and tiring.
He didn't notice the arm that reached out from the fog toward him until it tenderly covered his mouth and nose with a feather-light touch.
He gasped, or would have- but the viscous stuff it was made of clogged his nostrils and filled his mouth, and it was suddenly all he could do not to panic. He tore himself away, staggering onward. Goosebumps marched up his arms, and he hugged himself.

Pain echoed through him as his arm was cut by tip of the blade.
He tried. No one could tell him otherwise. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe he was missing something physically or mentally. When you win nothing feels wrong, but to lose... Maybe he was losing for a reason.

Shaw's feeling of unease grew - he began to notice the reaching, grabbing limbs, joints and appendages jumbled up in the wispy and uncertain shapes of the fog around him. Maybe he was seeing things, he told himself.
He kept glancing back over his shoulder.

Losing is good for the spirit, said someone out there. Dodging is good for the reflexes, he also guessed someone might have said that at some point in time.
Having your head chopped off? Not so much. It wasn't something on his bucket list...

The world around him swirled in to black. He had lost. He always lost, so it was no surprise. Maybe good fortune was not meant for him at the moment. Maybe he missed a step somewhere.
There was always next time, he hoped. There were always other paths to take.

Klinail rushed down the steps, near tripping a couple of times because of their speed and not 100% familiarity of the place. They charged head first into the dense fog, slamming their eyes shut as a new feeling ran through their very core.

5 - The Sorrowed: She cried out, the scream tearing her throat like a blade, but still she could not stop. Grief overwhelmed her like a wave, an avalanche, something so powerful that nothing could stand in its way and remain unscathed. Everything she loved was dead or dying, from people to her home to her very way of life. There was nothing left. She screamed and screamed and in that scream was a plea for death, that she not outlive the last vestiges of everything she was-
The feeling forced Klinail to trip face first into the ground. They refused to move for a good duration of the time before slowly forcing themselves up. The grief was so very painful, but they need to press on. They want to press on.

Shaw kept his eyes squeezed shut, even as the sensation of falling lessened and then halted altogether. It wasn't until he felt his feet touch the ground that he slowly opened his eyes.
He found himself on a checkered platform walled by the thick fog on all sides. At its center rested three orbs - they were bright and warm, and in some way reminded him of the fragments in the Spire above.
He touched one reverently, and felt himself begin to rise, back toward where he began.

But as she walked on, she felt as if someone was watching her. Skaaal looked around frantically, and almost shouted. "Cut it out!" she hissed.

Klinail had wanted to say something funny, witty if possible. But the feeling that had seized them this time just refuses to let any sort of words out of their throat. Everything felt suffocating and pained.
The pain was so great, Klinail could barely move as the figure attacked them.
