Dashner eventually got used to the fact that he'd probably get smacked in the face with a pie every three seconds. But that didn't mean he couldn't throw one back! The only obstacle, Lin was about two feet fall in his point of view, so it was hard to aim correctly at Lin.
Soon, the Selkies and Vanissha arrived back from wherever they went. "That was so great! We could totally be the best act in the circus now, Ronan!" He heard Doriana exclaim.
Dashner said under his breath, "Yeahh... Next to the clowns." He grinned a little, before looking back up at the entrance to the tent. Fernum and Mistie were back. Had they found another willing monster to join the circus?
"Ugh, children. These little nasty things." Hagetha said for the hundredth time. They opened the tent flap, and...
Chase walked through?! Dashner rubbed his eyes, and rubbed them again. "Bro! Chase joined the circus!" He exclaimed, before getting smacked with yet another pie.

This was a bad idea, and Marceline knew it.
And yet, here she was, creeping against the outskirts of the circus grounds. She felt her eyelids getting heavy, as they had done many times already today; she shook off the sleepy feeling and pressed forward. She just had to find Rorrim, talk to Dashner, figure out what on earth was going on within the walls of that tent...
She managed to get close enough to see a rotund witch leading Chase into the tent, and as the flap was moved aside, Marceline caught a glimpse of a winged clown getting a face full of pie... Dashner?! Is this what he left school to do? Sure, he was a prankster, but to this degree? Shaking off a wave of sleepiness again, she felt it imperative to walk right into that tent and give him a piece of her mind...

"Back into the truck, Hagetha. We're behind schedule as it is." Marceline saw the two in charge of the circus step out of the tent Chase had been deposited in. "I want to fill out the sideshow and get my trapeze artist, posthaste."
"I know, I know." The witch pulled out her wand and twirled it. "If the scaredevil hadn't taken so long we could have nabbed a whole truckload of brats today."
"Well, if the scheme were easy, everyone would be doing it, wouldn't they?" Farnum asked his cohort, sounding a bit testy. "No, it takes sheer brains and innovation to accomplish a scheme this massive. Brains...and patience."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah..." Hagetha made the 'yap yap' signal with one hand as she heaved herself into the truck. Farnum got into the driver's side and flipped on the lights-
"OVER THERE." Hagetha pointed right at Marceline as the lights of the truck illuminated her in the near-dusk shadows. "Looks like we've got another creeper!"

Dashner looked surprised at the sudden yell from Hagetha. Sure enough, it was THE Marceline LaGhede! He gave a small grin.
"... Yaaaay, Marceline is here!..."
Dashner let out a forced laugh and cleared his throat, and slowly edged behind Lin's pie thrower.

Marceline was caught like a werefaun in the headlights of Farnum's truck, dazedly squinting and futilely attempting to block the light with her bony hands. Her brain couldn't process the danger she was in, try as it might; the world got hazier as she struggled to focus.
"I want to know what you done to Dashner!!" She blurted into the glaring light. Before Farnum could answer, however, a Fright-or-Fight instinct kicked Marceline in the chest and she broke into a run towards the woods outside the circus grounds. Her hexhaustion quickly betrayed her, breathing becoming harder as she tore through the woods, turning herself around and losing her way more than once... before losing her footing on a tree root. She collapsed to the ground, her beloved hat flinging into the air, as hexhaustion overcame her...

"We've got a runner!" Farnum called out and took off sprinting after Marceline. Hagetha grumbled as she picked up her massive frame and trotted after.
"Horrible...slippery....little...brats!...Hate...running...hate...kids...hate...hate...hateeee" Finally, breathless, she joined Farnum standing over Marceline on the ground.
"Madame, I do believe we can check off another sideshow spectacle on our checklist."
"Just...give...me...one...minute...breath..." Hagetha held up a bony finger and gulped air.
"For goodness sakes, woman, it was twenty feet!" Bartleby turned to argue with Hagetha, but quickly turned his attention back to Marceline before she could right herself and bolt again. He grabbed Marceline by her bony wrist and pulled her to her feet. Leaning in close, he grinned at her with his wide, gold-toothed grin.
"Tell me, little monster...do you like...the circus?"

"NO! Marcie!" Dashner threw the pie off his face and started to fly to go make sure his friend was okay! But that Selkie ghoul ran up, grabbed his arm, and pulled him back down.
"What... Are you doing?! That's my beastie!" Dashner squirmed to get his foot out of Doriana's grip. She just wouldn't let go!
"Oh no you don't... Fernum has got her, she'll be okay. You stay here!" She said, letting go of Dashner's foot. He stumbled, looking back up where his beastie and the two adults lay.
"Okay, fine. You win." Dashner threw his hands up in defeat just as another pie came to hit him in the face.

Marceline's frame hung limply from Farnum's grip; she was too tired to fight it anymore. Her eyes rolled up and dazedly glossed over both of them, before her head flopped forward with a soft groan.

"I think this one's broken." Farnum dropped Marceline back to the ground with a 'FLOP.'
"Ehhh, don't worry about it. The Loa always look dead tired." Hagetha reached into her belt pouch and pulled out her magic wand. "She'll feel just fine in a moment...."
Hagetha held up the wand and the tip began to glow.
""By Mezmer's mind and mental powers your will is mine for 24 hours! You will leave your friends and to them declare 'Farewell, I belong to Cirque Sinistaire!'"
Farnum smiled as the glow crackled and struck Marceline. He rubbed his hands together in glee.
"Very good, madame! Now. What part of the sideshow shall she fill out? Hm...You could hex a beard on her and she could play the part of bearded lady."
"No, I think I have a better idea...." Hagetha reached into her pouch and pulled out a familiar, fog-filled crystal ball. "There we are."
She handed the sphere to Marceline.
"Every good fortune teller needs a crystal ball."

Doriana walked back over to Ronan, and they both climbed up their high landing. They stood up the top, and she looked down warily. She looked back at Ronan who stood behind her.
"Okay. What're we supposed to do to make us the beast? Do you remember?"

Almost instantly, Marceline's eyes flicked open and she rose to her feet. For the first time in a few days, she was wide awake and felt renewed. Dashner and the rest had the right idea: this circus was the bee's knees! At last, she'd found what was missing in her unlife! Clutching the glass sphere in a silk scarf, she smiled dreamily as she watched the fog shift within.
"Oh! That's curious!" She cocked her head to the side as red clouds formed in the fog. "I shall have to consult the cards to find out what this means..."

Ronan waved a friendly greeting to Marceline as she finally decided to give the circus a go, she'd love it, everyone loved it here after all. Then climbing the ladder to the diving platform, he looked down at the tiny drinking glass and then to Dorianna. "Remember, distract the audience with a bit of" He wriggled his fingers "Razzle dazzle." He looked her up and down. "Is that the sparkliest thing you own? When the lights hit us we should shimmer, the glare should hide a few mistakes. Not that we're going to make any of course." He pondered for a moment. "I'm thinking, a quadrupedal flip, double roll, spin and splash! Into the glass. " At no point did it seem to occur to either of them that the task was impossible, of COURSE they could dive into a drinking glass, heck, they could dive into an egg cup if needed. "Ready to give it a go?"

Rory opened his eyes as his prison was jostled. Whatever pocket dimension Hagetha Mistie had stuffed him in wasn't dangerous or scary, but it was incredibly boring. There was nothing happening except the mists that lazily flowed past. He didn't feel hungry or thirsty, but he would have just about killed for an iCoffin Wi-Fi signal or even a paper Aberzombie & Stitch catalog to look at.
"Wh-wha?" Through the mists, Rory caught sight of something welcome. He hopped up to his feet. "MARCLINE! MARCELIIIIIIINE! It's me, Rory! Heeeey!"
He banged his hands (okay, lightly tapped his very fragile hands) on the smooth, curved walls of his prison, doing anything he could to get her attention.
"Break the crystal, Marceline! Come on, you can do it! Break the-" The mists parted enough for him to see what was really going on. Rory's hopes were shattered into more pieces than a mirror tossed off of the Grimpire State building as he saw Hagetha and Farnum leading Marceline over to the sideshow.
"Oh no." Rory put his hands to his temples. "Oh no! OH NOOOOO!"

"Now. Before we were so rudely interrupted..." Farnum turned away from Marceline as the sideshow 'freaks' were getting her integrated and back to his cohort in crime. "I believe we were going to run our last errand of the day?"
"Yes, and then back here for the trap for that hippogryff boy. Remind me again why he gets so much special attention?" Hagetha complained as she followed Farnum back to the Cirque Sinistaire truck. "Frankly, I'm so tired of dealing with the ickle brats at this point I'd be in favor of just throwing a really large net."
"The gremlin assures me he is a pillar of popularity at Monster High. Therefore, if we capture this 'Gryff,' all of his many followers are sure to be easy to bring under our sway in rapid fashion. It is essential we trap him, even more essential than the mummy girl."
"And you're sure the gremlin can be trusted?"
"Look at him! He's tiny and pathetic. Of course he's going to be able to easily point a claw at who the most popular monster at the school is. And once we have that popularity under OUR control, getting every single student at Monster High under our thrall is as simple as snapping a finger. All we need to do is have the perfect trap for him...and the gremlin has that well under control."
At that moment, an explosion rocked out from the other side of the circus. Car alarms across the city went off and several wolf howls could be heard. Farnum let out a long sigh.
"MOSTLY under control. Come on, let's go get our trapeze artist."

After having another long pie fight with Lin, Dashnet decided it'd be best to at least go see how is friend Marceline was doing. She apparently had a change of mind about the circus, so she was now some fortune teller ghoul.
Located in a dark corner, only two yellow eyes and a crystal ball glowed. He approached silently, but soon the freaky yellow eyes looked up at him. It seemed that she was... Smiling?
He approached the corner and stood right In front of the creepy corner. "Marceline? Marceline LaGhede? Marcie? It's Dashner..."
