M'arek smiled and allowed himself to recenter and get everything together. There was an awful lot of work he had to do. He needed to learn how to harness this power a little more completely, if he ever wanted to be a decent protector. he didn't need a master. If he had to, he'd work his way up from the bottom, clawing and scratching at the walls he had to climb. He would learn to master this ability, and many others before he was done. he would become a passable defender, and he would protect the galaxy. He would protect everyone. He had to. He'd made a promise. He stood up and walked toward an area with massive stones of varying sizes. He would need to start with a simple challenge.

M'arek continued walking until he'd reached a stone situated away from the other younglings, and rolled his neck to loosen up. It was a large stone; almost the size of the boy. It must have weighed two hundred pounds. M'arek closed his eyes and sat down. Not meditating; just waiting. he was resting and letting himself get a good picture of what he wanted from this. If he got better with his telekinesis, who knows what kind of doors that might open. Heh. He shook his head softly and listened to the master at a distance, coaching the other younglings about how the force was everywhere, and you could exert your will over it at a distance. It was the essence of telekinesis, apparently.

M'arek listened further to the principles of the act. It was all very mystical, but M'arek felt he might be able to figure it out from here. He crossed his legs and closed his eyes, trying to gather his willpower together to manipulate. This was definitely not the object you should probably start with. It was massive. Literally, it had lots of mass. But things could definitely be worse. he could be trying to lift something bigger, for instance. Or he could be sitting on a bed of nails. Okay, so there wasn't really much that he could say for it. He was starting with a challenge. The way he always did. If he was going to be a true jedi, he didn't need to be babied. He needed to be pushed.

M'arek imagined that the same familiar feeling that he had was surrounding the boulder. He tried to see things from the boulder's point of view. To place himself inside the stone and imagine that it was in fact himself that was levitating. He didn't know quite what it was supposed to feel like, so he just tried to picture that moment of time that he had been frozen, suspended by the massive influx of air when he pushed that droid earlier. The feeling of weightlessness, the overwhelming freedom of lifting and not descending. Not to feel the pull of gravity, but instead to command it to stand aside. If the Force was in all things, and he was part of the Force, then he was the boulder.

M'arek felt himself rising. His mental simulation was apparently pretty spot on, because it felt real. As he sat in the meditation garden, he imagined that he might actually be levitating. His eyes opened sharply and he surveyed his situation. Well, poodoo... His countenance remained normal, but the stone that he was focusing on was still at eye level. However, that, being the largest object in the garden around him was the least of his worries. Not only was that stone hovering three feet in the air, but he was sitting in a veritable field of floating earth. Everything from the pebbles in the dirt all the way to the stone M'arek had been focusing on was hovering in midair, and ever so gradually orbiting him. He became aware that there was no earth underneath him, and realized that he must have accidentally brought himself up, as well... Well... Now that he was looking, he noticed that even clods of earth had been pulled from the ground, and were floating, dropping particles of dirt into his spiraling orbit.

M'arek's concentration must have lapsed --and really, who could blame him?-- as he observed his work. The particles were the first thing to fall, and the tiny pebbles followed, until only the largest boulder and the mid-sized stones were remaining. M'arek attempted to clear his mind and not to panic or overcompensate with the remainder, allowing himself to become the stones once more, and willing the force to support him. Willing himself to be above gravity (literally) and trying to preserve this weightless feeling. His robes billowed around him and he felt himself sink slightly. Everything is fine. He took a deep, steadying breath and allowed the Force to comply with his requests rather than trying to order it.

M'arek felt the stones around him rise a little bit further, the pebbles rising a little bit more and repopulating the field around his floating self. he was the sun in this solar system, and with his fiery complexion and light red-brown robes he even resembled some sort of star. The jedi initiate focused on this image, allowing the sense of oneness to envelop him. To imagine that not only was the sun the center of the solar system, but each particle, each planet was connected. Part of the same, living breathing organism. He saw himself from the perspective of the planets, and sensed their everlasting dance as they the organism traveled through the galaxy.

M'arek realized that it sounded like rain. He opened his eyes, and all around him, his body was falling apart. First the pebbles and the tiny flecks of dirt... And then the larger stones fell. Thunder in the rainstorm, thunking into the ground and sending ripples of sound echoing out. Finally it was just his original boulder and himself, just barely levitating off the surface of the grass, the grass rippling out from him as he floated above it. He felt a profound sense of loss at this. It was unexplainable why it struck him so deep, but then he realized that every fleck of dirt and every stone in his solar system had its own story. They had all been relying on him. He had been their sun, their sole provider of stability and energy. Their lifegiver. And he had failed them. He lowered himself to the grass and focused on lifting the other stones again. He had to help them. He had to do it. They were counting on him.

M'arek closed his eyes and felt the stones rise once more. Only a few more than before, but it was progress. He was making it happen. I have to keep them afloat. I have to do this. They need me. His face contorted into an expression that resembled anger. It was concentration. A sort of self- deprecating expression of incompetence. You can't do it? What's wrong with you? Failure isn't an option. Not now, not ever. The world is falling apart, and you're pampering yourself. What's your problem? What's the point if you're not going to do anything with this power? If you're just going to be protected by everyone else why not just lay down and die? You're only dragging them down. You're wasting their time. You're wasting space that could be used for someone a little more useful. Great things were expected from people with great gifts. Exceptional power beget exceptional obligation. If he refused his gift, what was the point of it all? The boy's forehead was sweating, his brow furrowed. He was getting to himself.

Suddenly, the progress M'arek had made was negated. It was little more than the original boulder left floating, two other medium stones in the air. The youngling's brow began to twitch and his brow drew tighter together as his internal berating continued. On the outside, it appeared he was merely struggling to perform. But through the Force, his unguarded emotions bled into the surrounding area. The master of the area approached him slowly, staying outside of his range of influence, musing on the fact that he seemed this upset with something many Initiates spend years building up to, and still struggle with. The Master watched calmly, waiting to intervene if the boy's temper was growing out of control. he wouldn't interfere with the youngling's internal debate, but if the child was going to lose, it was his duty to help.

M'arek allowed the stones to fall slowly, his countenance becoming its normal harsh version of determined. Taking a deep, steadying breath, M'arek stood and dusted his robes off. He walked some distance away form the meditation garden, to a massive boulder that was bigger than he was. It had to weigh half a ton. No one could be expected to lift this stone before they were at least a knight, and more likely a master. M'arek took a deep breath, the Master of his clan's telekinesis training watching with a curious smile, a few of the younglings having recognized that his normal speech on the merits of telekinesis was gone, and had turned to see what he was doing, his loss somewhat jarring.
M'arek looked up at the stone and pointed one hand at it. His breathing picked up a little bit more, I...and his other hand moved forward, am not... both palms down. The stone began to tremble. He flipped his hands and raised his palms to the sky, the stone rising as the boy shook. "Useless." With a sudden exhalation, the boy relinquished his grip on the force, and the stone crashed down from twenty feet in the air, rumbling through the earth near him and echoing off the stones in the gardens. This was most likely why he was avoided. He was just always so serious. Everything was life and death with him, and no matter how many lectures or private sessions he was given did he allow himself to relax. The teachers feared he would work himself too hard, or that he hungered for power, but they learned that even though he trained until his palms bled and he worked until he passed out from exhaustion, he did not show the classic signs of an apprentice set to turn. His motives were in line with the jedi code, even if his self-inflicted methods were almost Sith-like in their intensity. It was unheard of for a jedi to die as a youngling, but the Sith regularly pushed their students to the breaking point in an effort to weed out the weak. M'arek was doing the same to himself, but they didn't really know what to do with that sort of work ethic. As such, most of his training was self-instructed, and his masters had learned to point him in the right direction, knowing he wouldn't leave a job undone once he'd begun it.
M'arek took a deep breath and let it out slowly, turning his back on the stone and walking away.

M'arek sighed.. What now? He drifted back over to the lightsaber training arena. He paced toward the computer and began entering his information. We have to step it up. He didn't feel on top of his game just yet, but he could try to get his bearings before the fight. There wasn't much he could do as far as the Force for now, so it made sense to push himself to his physical limits. He took a deep breath and pushed the confirmation button. It's time. It was going to be tough, but he would figure it out. Three rounds of droids this time. He had a little bit of time as the gears and droids moved under the stone floor. M'arek stepped into the center of the ring and got down on his knees, attempting to clear his mind for the coming battle.

M'arek took a deep breath, his eyes closed as he prepared for the coming onslaught. It was going to be a violent encounter. There was a lot of emotion he could work out with this. Standing, M'arek looked around as the gears began to slow and silence themselves. There was a consuming silence, and a single moment of doubt crossed M'arek's consciousness as he saw four droids rise from the arena floor. He picked four for the first round simply because it seemed like the most he could contend with at a single time. he reviewed his listing. The first round was supposed to be droids he could contend with relatively easily. He wanted a little bit of a warm-up before he got into the action.

M'arek waited for a moment to present itself. Silently, he watched the droids rise through the panels on the floor, and he waited without drawing his lightsaber. The youngling attempted to allow the Force to speak for him, and was merely waiting for the right moment. His mind was less clouded for having had his few moments of silent contemplation. With this small amount of clarity, his lightsaber found a path through three of the droids that pressed in around him. There was a sudden flash of motion and the sounds of five lightsabers all igniting at once, followed shortly by the sound of two droids crashing into the stone. M'arek's patience had paid off, it seemed, and he had dismantled the two droids with the best defense programs, one of them almost being taken by a full mou kei and only being lucky enough to keep its off-hand.

M'arek continued his incredible winning streak by slashing one of the droids from forehead to groin and turning to the remaining niman droid, watching as it thought of the best attack to try. When it raised its saber to slash at M'arek's right shoulder, the youngling decided to practice again that elusive and deadly maneuver; the mou kei. With a sudden burst of speed, the boy slashed in a full circle, counter-clockwise inside the droid's defensive barrier. His saber cut through the droid's right shoulder, right thigh, left thigh and then back up smoothly to cut through the droid's left shoulder. A quick rotation jung ma allowed M'arek a strike through the droid's waist, and he spun around one more time to slash through the droid's neck, and finished with a strike for ultimate finality that cut through the droid's severed head and down through its groin. If this thing had been struck by a real lightsaber, it would be in ten different pieces. M'arek allowed his lightsaber to disengage and it was on his belt again as he grit his teeth. This is still too easy... He would take the time between this and the next round to rest for a moment, pacing in the center of the arena while he waited, his fists clenched, as if he was seething... He was more concerned with trying to figure out a way to make this harder than he was actually angry.
