Hubert watched his pathetic wife run off. Young women! They were all the same! Promising they would love you then leave you for a better looking man! Love was something he never wanted to deal with and figured he would just sell her off or something later. Killing her would just be too cruel, even for a gentleman like him, no he instead loved to see his "wives" suffer. Maybe he would force her to become a tavern wench, that would be a lovely sight. Seeing her in rags, roaming from man to man, possibly pregnant and forced to work in the pubs to satisfy the needs of the dogs that drunk in them.
Yes..that would be a find end to the Lady Jane...then he could take off with the money and move to another city, to another woman. They were all the same..

Chase returned with the other staff later that night. Hubert had greeted them and kindly allowed them to sleep. The man then went back to his money, which had seemed to lighten his mood.
Chase sighed unsure what to really do as he made his way to his room. Stopping at the door when he heart soft sobbing coming from inside. Confused he walked into the room and saw Jane laying on his bed, the shell of a book next to her. Closing the door he stared at her with compassion.
"Jane?" he asked unsure what to really think. "Is everything alright..?"

The smell of the burning book was still stuck to the hairs of her nose. Tormenting and reminding her of the events that just took place moments ago. Was this normal? Were husbands mean't to do this? What about all those romance novels that she read over the years, were they not even true? She didn't know anymore, nor did she care. A woman's job was to look pretty on a man's arm, please them and carry children. That was it, nothing more.
No point in sulking over something you could never control though. That thought brought her to start focusing her mind back on trying to get Chase back to his timeline. Sneakily going into his room, she started to read the books he hid away from Hubert. So far so good, her horrible mood had melted away from the pages full of knowledge that was until it hit her. If Chase got back home, she would have no one to talk to anymore. It broke her heart thinking on it further, but she couldn't help it till eventually tears flooded her eyes. Putting all the books away, not able to read a single word more she buried her head into his pillow, feeling so alone.
Though as soon as Chase's voice hit her ears, she sat up instantly, wiping the tears from her eyes like nothing was wrong. "Just a very emotional day... that's all.."

Chase could sense something was up. Walking closer he noticed the marks on her face. His ring had left a bruise where Hubert had slapped her. Softly touching her cheek his eyes melted with compassion for her. "He..hit you..." he said frowing.
Pulling Jane into a hug he held her in his arms. He didn't care if this was wrong or not! She probably felt so hurt by this and needed a hug. His hand softly holding the back of her head he held her gently.
"I'm sorry..you're such a wonderful woman..to be stuck with an ogre like him..you deserve better than you get." he admitted shyly. They were alone now, free from the eyes of the people, the servants, and her husband. All the other staff had gone to bed, and Hubert was busy kissing his coins to care about her.
After the hug Chase softly touched her bruise and stared into her eyes. "Would you like me to fetch the first aid kit for you?" he asked not realizing they probably didn't have one invented yet!

Even though Chase had been gentle, her cheek was still sore and tender. Hubert clearly didn't hold anything back with that hit of his. Make-up could've covered the redness but wearing cosmetics was the sign of the devil, a harlot. Also back then make-up contained poisonous chemicals unknown to the wearers.
Jane hardly said a word as they hugged, she didn't want to put all her marital problems on his shoulders with everything Chase was going through. It must of been scary experience to not be in your own time period. "I'm okay... he has never done this before so... maybe this was just.. a blip.." What was she thinking? Defending a man who beats women. It wasn't her fault though, it's what girls were taught. Hide what's going on with your life, stiff upper lip.
But Chase knew all this, "Who am I kidding?.... I hate my life, I hate being a woman... there.. I said it" Jane sobbed into his shoulder, clinging to the wetted fabric caused by her tears. She shook her head about the first aid kit, sure they had first aid knowledge.. but a kit? Doctors did all that stuff.
With a sigh she looked towards the door. "I'm stuck like this... it's like being a prisoner... well.. I guess you can sort of relate to that..........." she paused, then asked "What is marriage like in your time?"

"I know..." he softly replies holding her. "...it's rough, I would hate it too. Caged in a doll house..having to pretend to be a perfect doll all day.." he said rubbing her back gently.
He could relate and was the only man that seemed to get to know her well, flaws and all. When she asked what marriage was like in his time he stared into her eyes deeply and blushed.
"It is a partnership, yet it is also the connection of two people who deeply love each other. Sometimes people marry just to have tropy wives or husbands, kind of like what you're going through, but love is the foundation. Both the man and the woman are equal." he said softly looking at her. "If I knew how to take you out of this nightmare..I would have. Jane..you are a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart." he said pulling her close again.
"Had I known what I was doing..maybe..I could have posed as a noble..maybe I could have been the one you were married to. I hate watching you get treated this way, if you were my lover I would be humbled to have such a wonderful woman at my side." he said closing his eyes not caring he had revealed he had feelings for her.
All that mattered was cheering her up and being a shoulder to cry on.

A connection between two lovers, it sounded too perfect to be true. Men and women.. equal, how was that even possible? Women were considered weak, too emotional to make a stand in society. Only Queens had respect, though not fully. They were still pressured into having heirs as well.
Chase was so kind to her, saying such sweet things that no man ever had. Never had she had anyone call her beautiful. But wait, did he just say he would've wanted to be the one to marry her? Or was Jane hearing things? "Why... can't men be like you?" she whispered softly, holding onto him.
Something seemed to click inside her, playing what he just said over and over in her head. Jane felt warmth towards him, utter care and the want to be around him. It was so strange, she had no idea what this feeling was nor had she ever experienced it. "Chase...." Jane pulled from the hug to stare into his eyes. "I get this.. strange sensation when I'm around you... I'm always happy, you make me smile, laugh and cry. Letting all these emotions out that I can never show to anyone..." As she explained, her lips moved closer to his until finally, Jane kissed him.

Chase blushed when their lips touched. This was wrong, she was a married woman, but..how he waited for this day. Pulling her down on the bed, and ontop of him he held her in his arms as they kissed. He could feel her heart spilling out all over him.
If only he could take her back..whenever he found a way back. Pulling away he looked up at her and blushed. "J-Jane? Are you sure..we should be doing this..? I don't want to see you get beaten again." he said yet smiled warmly. Pulling her into a deep romantic kiss again he held it.
It wasn't like they were going to make love or anything, so one small kiss couldn't hurt right?

Jane had no idea what she was doing, but her body clearly did. Never having kissed anyone in such a way like that wasn't natural to her. Where did it all come from? She wondered. Was this what pure love did to someone? hough Chase didn't seem to want to carry on, pulling out from her kiss.
"J-Jane? Are you sure..we should be doing this..? I don't want to see you get beaten again." he asked her.
"I don't care.. he can beat me, slap me, kick me or kill me.. I really don't care right now. I just want this, with you. I may not ever get the chance again... I want you" Jane explained, whispering the last three words lovingly to Chase. Though, her fears of him not liking it were wiped clean as he returned the kiss with his own.

"Jane.." he cooed kissing her passionately. "So do I! I love you!!" he said feeling the room get hotter between them. "I don't care what happens either! I just want to be with you!" he smiled feeling them begin to undress each other as they got lost in the moment. That little kiss turned into a night of forbidden and wonderful passion.
No one had noticed, and when morning came he was holding her in his arms. The door still locked he stared at her sleeping form and gasped. What had he done! Chase had just...made love to a woman in the past! Seeing her half-nude sleeping form he pulled her close and held her in his arms softly.
Hubert had left again and wouldn't be back until a few days. He hadn't heard the sounds of them making love, nor would he honestly care. If that woman had eventually found another man's arms to cry in, it would be for the better! Soon she would be stuck as a wench anyway.
Chase lay there wondering what she would do when she would awaken. Not that it mattered, he loved her deeply. For this moment he would pretend she was his.

Being with him was so much better then the pig of a husband of hers. With Hubert it felt like she was just an object, laying still. But Chase made her feel amazing, was this what love was really like? She didn't know, but if it was.. then she would gladly experience it with Chase once more.
Jane was snuggled up to him as she slept, another thing she had never done. Eventually her eyes fluttered open as she gave a sleepy smile to the man she was holding close. "Good morning" she said, sweetly yawning like she just wanted to stay in bed a little longer.

"Good morning.." he cooed kissing her lips. Placing a hand on her cheek he stared deeply into her eyes. "I'm going to have to go soon..I would hate it if we got caught. Then again, we could just run away." he smiled.
Chase had never felt this way in all his life with another woman. Jane was so elligant and wonderful. "I don't regret anything. Last night..was magical." he smiled slowly sitting up and staring down at her. "We'll have to keep our love a secret, but I would love to be with you again this way some time." he winked.

She gave a sad nod, knowing they would have to keep everything hush hush and sneak around a little if they wanted to keep meeting like that. "You're right..." Jane had known of other women sleeping with other men besides their husbands but they all got caught obviously. "You should probably leave first... then I will after twenty minutes or something.."
Hearing him say he didn't regret anything made her heart flutter, because she felt the exact same.
