Uxe nodded at her and cast a quick glance around with his red eyes half lidded. He wasn't sure what the heck was going on but he thought he could hear some activity from where the herd was headed. He lifted his head at her. "I am new here. My name is Uxe. I haven't spent much time getting to know anyone..."

He began to really observe the area around them as he headed in the direction of the herd's dust. "I wonder what got into them..." He said simply.

"Ah, well in that case, welcome to the pride!" She smiled sweetly, and dipped her head once more at him before going on. "I'm sorry we had to meet under such weird circumstances though..." She watched him for a moment as he began to follow the herd's dust.

She was headed that direction anyway, and decided that she'd follow after Uxe if he was up for it. Besides going in a group was much safer, especially when you weren't all that great of a fighter.

"H-Hey Uxe, wait up! Do you mind if I uh, come with you? We can keep each other on our toes, and figure out what exactly is going on around here."

He gave her a small smile; one that was obviously not shown to others very often. He wasn't one for showing emotion or smiling or laughing really; he had been the very odd one out of his family. He sort of bobbed his head as a response to her first statement. "I suppose it could be worse... " He said with a shrug. He lowered his head and took a deep sniff and could smell many others in the wind. "I don't think we are the only ones out here..."

He looked over at her and sort of nodded his head. "I don't mind... No one really knows me so maybe everyone will be less apt to attack me." He said, following the trail until they could actually see what was going on.

"Hmmph;."

Soleil quickly jumped to agree with his words. Yeah it definitely could have been worse. She could have bumped into him in her infirmary! She shuddered to think that could ever happen. Although it was definitely part of the territory she had taken on when she became a medic.

"Oh no we definitely aren't! I'm a medic and if I was sent out here to 'defend' then I can promise you we aren't." She nodded of matter of factly, puffing out her chest as she mentioned her rank. It was one of the few things she was proud of in her life, and she wanted everyone to know it.

Now ecstatic that Uxe had agreed to let her tag along, she nearly skipped her way over to his side. "You might be right, though your colors might mark you as an immediate threat." She frowned a bit, but tried ot keep in good spirits. "Sometimes I sort of feel like we're just giant moving targets."

Defending!

As if by magic the warm body came to life beneath his touch almost instantly, her sharp green eyes cutting into him unwelcomingly from where she had rolled several feet away. Just out of reaching distance, he noticed. Her soft voice harsh with annoyance, youthful face scrunched in a rather affronted way. Machozi didn't recognize her, but then he didn't know very many lions here intimately yet. Most were easy enough to identify as family units by their particular markings, but the same could have been said of his own pride--where sons and daughters often resembled their mother or one of the Umholi, of which there were only a pawful.

Considering his options, Machozi felt himself bristle in returned annoyance at her assuming statement. Flicking his tail in a dismissive gesture as he passed her with deliberately wide strides. She was easily three times smaller, though she had a bit of growing left in her yet, and clearly not worth his energy. The brat was awake and breathing and seemed feisty. That much reassurance was enough. Don't flatter yourself..

Instead he turned his gaze to the rogues breaking across the river, weaving in amongst the ibex and creeping deeper into pride territory. Beckoned by the call of a pale male with a streak of color across his nose not unlike the lioness he'd just left behind. Well that was bound to be bad, his slow jog quickening to catch up with those who had already slid past much of their defensive line.

Defending!

Flatter myself?! As if she cared one baboon's a** about what he might have thought of her aesthetically! Wrinkling her nose in clear distaste as the giant passed, unimpressed by his goliath build. They had more than enough bolder-brained males in this pride without adding new stock to the mix. Stiffing indignantly, still bruised by the comment she wasn't allowing herself to think about, Atsila cautiously pulled herself to her feet. Testing each limb in sequence for aches and pains. Everything felt as securely attached as it ever had been, thankfully, it was only her ribs that proved sore--and undoubtedly would continue to feel as such for a good while if nothing was done to tend them.

The medic in training could worry about her wounds later though, with a new rush of spite and adrenaline pushing the shadow cat along, Atsila was ready to show up the stone grey male. Charging past him towards the peculiar brown cat who seemed to be the source of all the trouble. If she could catch up his feet with her paws this whole ordeal would end right? And then she could crow over how she had averted a blatant crisis with only one paw. Let the dumb brute thing what he would of her then!

Despite the ache in her side, long paws stretched to make up the distance, snaking her fame between the ibex in order to close in upon the crazed cheetah. Paws swiping at his thin, nimble legs as Atsila heaved an irritable growl of warning. Just make it easy on yourself an' give up already!

Uxe was a bit taken back at how friendly this lioness was. He had only spoken to a few others here and other than Zii'moto the cubsitter; this lioness was also pretty tolerable and nice. He had been under the impression this was a tough pride but he supposed he shouldn't assume. He lifted his head and could see a scene unfolding in front of them.

"I don't have much red." He said simpy, his ears moving forward as he spotted some others among the herd... that were not apart of the pride. "Hmm.. there are strangers here too..." He said, motioning his paw towards the rogues and other species.

"I suppose everyone wants a meal today."

Roll for attack

Sam saw his chance, the beast was just upon his position and with Lilith by his side to distract... it was going to work! It had too, it--What was this? The damn thing was gone where? Sam frowned somehow the creature had gained speed and was up with the firekin. He growled angrily not only in embarrassment but rage as well. How dare that creature make him look bad in front of the other felines.

Nadir rushed alongside the others, feeling a sudden burst of energy spark his steps. They were close to the white stag by now- so close that the brown cheetah could see the beast's muscles pulse beneath his flank. It would be easy to spring upon him...had it not been for the attendants at either side. But the group was making good effort attempting to separate the group.

...Unfortunately, however, it wasn't enough. Just when it seemed like they had driven the white ibex out into the dunes, the firekin guards caught up with them and split the group into two. Nadir made a pitiful yelp of surprise as his legs were struck out from under him by a swipe of a paw, and he received a mouthful of sand as a reward.

The ibex swarmed on either side of them, picking up their pacing as they headed towards the mountains. Now that the firekin had slowed their pursuers, there didn't seem much that would stop them from reaching their goal. As Nadir peered bleary eyed at the herd, he caught just a sliver of the white stag vanishing over the sand ridge. He'd been so close!

He panted, looking up at the two who had stopped them. "We could have killed him together!" Immortality shared was still immortality!

When the cheetah fell back, Chanda spared a look to see why... Only to miss the red mass of lion flying up on her right. She didn't know the other lion was there until he slammed into her side, sending her crashing into the sand and rolling, losing the ram-skull helmet she wore in the process. As she pushed herself up, she looked up and watched the ibex leave, in no particular hurry. She then looked to who had knocked her over and glared at the other lion, not saying a word.

Leek had been patrolling another section of the dunes when he'd heard P'lemis' roar. The former swamp lion had, of course, stopped and gawked at the huge herd of ibex, and especially the white one. But what had drawn his attention MORE were the animals chasing the herd. Being born of a much smaller and lither stock had proven a boon as he charged across the sand, body stretching and contracting as he used the slope and the speed it gave him to his advantage. What he hadn't anticipated was how solid the red lioness was as he hit her with his own body, and nearly fell over. As he stared back at her, then looked to the others gathering, he found himself holding his left forepaw up. His shoulder would be smarting for a while... "I heard a roar, did we REALLY just get invaded by rogues for FOOD?" Weren't there plenty of prey animals out there past the desert's borders? What made THIS herd so special?

Nkera nodded awkwardly at Kiowaa, looking a little lost for words because that was exactly how he felt – in his case, that meant his frown was a little less pronounced and he was looking at just about everything except the lioness next to him.

She had a point though and so Nkera decided to commit to the safety of the herd. One of his muscles tightened from the previous efforts, however, and the Guard tripped and nearly fell, growling with annoyance as he took a few steps with a noticeable limp. With slow and repetitive movements, Nkera slowly regained control of his hind leg and caught up with the other Firekin.

“Forget immortality. Your life will end now if you don’t get back to the other side of the water.” His stance, fixed eyes and deep low growl made it clear that he was very close to lunging at the brown cheetah. Weird little freak. He’d had enough with these strange species that seemed to be crossing his path lately.

---------------------------

Baise had nearly been caught in the middle of the herd but thankfully, her smaller and agile frame helped her dodge all the dangerous ibex that she was following. It seemed the interest of her peers had shifted to the rogues and she happily changed gears, falling back to defend the herd even though others had already stopped the incoming rogues. She joined the line of Firekin, head tall and growling quietly. She wasn’t training to become a soldier or a guard but she still had the basic training and a decent amount of dueling experience for her age.

“Delusional freak.” The adolescent said not too quietly, snorting with annoyance.

Something had to be terribly wrong with the cheetah’s head if he really believed killing a white stag would make him immortal. She’d heard from a former rogue that he had seen many giant lions who could fly and had strange powers but Baise wasn’t sure if he’d actually seen them or id he’d just been playing a joke on her. If his words were true, those lions apparently were immortal but Baise didn’t think a little fragile feline could ever become anything other that what it was already. Baise didn’t really believe the rogue lands were filled with winged felines but if such powerful creatures really did exist, she knew they’d be lions. A cheetah was weak and fragile. Immortality was not something any of them should realistically aspire towards. She didn’t know how a lion could sprout wings or become immortal and in all honesty, she really didn’t care. It simply would never happen with the brown cheetah, she was certain of it.

The blueish cheetah came to a halt with the rest of the rouges that had come across the water, glancing around to try to find a way to sneak off. The lions seemed very preoccupied with the brown cheetah, who had fallen ungracefully to the ground. It would be the perfect time to escape, if the lions on this side of the river weren't forming a long line to push them back. He sighed softly and glanced down the line. Perhaps if he ran straight along the river he could run around them?

His shoulder twinged at the thought. Hm. Best to save his energy for when he'd really need it. His first plan hadn't gone as he had hoped, so he'd really have to bide his time on this go-round.

Turning his gaze from the distance to the lions in front of him, he offered them a charming smile, but remained silent. He also held his ground, as they were still a safe distance from him. Most of them, at least.

Kiowaa caught up with the others, having been unable to run after her incident at the river. Even as she pulled to a stop, she found herself hacking to catch her breath. It seemed like she would be taking a not-to-pleasant trip back to her mother's before the evening was out. She was already on the outs with Ea after being so accident prone this past year.

Unfortunately it seemed like the others were taking care of the matter. She cleared her throat, hoping to offer some further chord of intent. "The herd is on our lands now- it belongs to us. If we want to hunt him or not hunt him, that's our business." As it was, she suspected the head hunters would be delighted to hear that such a large stock had entered the mountain ridge. A good herd could feed them for years. And a strong leader could strengthen that herd.

"Come on! Back over the river," she coughed. "There's nothing here for you."

Facing opposite of them, the brown cheetah narrowed his bright eyes, looking behind him for a show of support. But it seemed like not all the rogues had chosen to cross over the river, and those that remained were mostly conceding defeat. He cursed under his breath, his tail swatting. "I will get that stag..." he grumbled.

He past the other rogues, walking towards the shoreline. "Herds don't belong to prides. Especially not just to lions."

That was that then. All the beasts were gone and nothing came from it. Sam's stomach growled angrily in reminder and his patient's was lacking. It had been fun at first but now he found himself wanting to leave. "Lilith come." He commanded his companion who looked like she wanted to chase after the fleeing prey. "I have lost interest maybe we will have better luck elsewhere. Lilit." A twitch was developing from his right eye as the familiar remained oblivious. "LILIT!" She jumped and whirled around towards her master. "Let's.go.now."

Geez master was being more of a jerk then usual today. Maybe its cause he lost prey. She giggled at that thought. "Kay." Lilit eyed the firekin and the rogues for a moment before following her master in search of something else.

Thanks for this contest Mimsey~ Good luck everyone.

When the brown cheetah started to retreat, Hila knew it would be best to return to the other side of the river and try crossing in a different location. He ducked his head in way of apology, deciding that it was best none of the lions had acknowledged him specifically. That way, later on, if he did cross, they might not remember him.

He turned and trotted back to the river slowly, making sure to keep the small rouge ground that had crossed fairly close to one another. That way they weren't as vulnerable as they might have been if they had tried to retreat separately. These lions were serious business, after all.
