Her ears perked at the satyr's recognition, and at the hint of emotion. They flipped back down at his words. Yes... Life never quite went the way you expected, or hoped. "I find that a bit of fighting and following along tends to work best for me," she said, her own smile hinting now.

Her brow rose, and her eyes lifted to look at the peak. The mountain was changed specifically to protect the peak? "I'm afraid we can't go back," she said softly, looking to the satyr again. "She and I are both invested in this now. There is no going back..." Her brow knit, and she leaned forward. "Is there anything we can do to make the climb easier? Maybe a charm or something to show the mountain that we're not here to harm it?"

He smirked, which was as good as a laugh or a chuckle from him. The wolf had spunk, he'd give her that, and caution. She may just have the meddle to survive the trip but the pouty cat...not so much.

"Invested in it, huh?" The satyr sighed, as if she'd just claimed her death sentence. He leaned forward, all too aware that Harper was doing very much the same thing behind Nina. Holding onto his sheath, he said a few words and held out the sword, scabbard and all. "Take this. If you're truly here to seek the treasure for pure purposes it will aid you. Take heed, for if your hearts be wicked, and what you say be lies then the blade will turn on you instead."

Harper's eyes widened. He was...he was giving up his sword...to Nina?! Was that as good as a blessing? She rolled fully onto her side to get a clearer view.

"Yes. Invested. ...Unfortunately." Nina snorted and aimed at mental glare at Harper, since she couldn't see the feline and didn't feel like turning her back on the satyr to turn and do so herself.

She straightened to attention defensively as the sword was pulled, her eyes widening in shock as it was held out rather than being stabbed out. Hearing Harper shift behind her, she carefully got up and approached the satyr, making sure first that it wasn't some sort of ruse. Fairly certain that the sword wasn't about to swing out and take her head, she closed the gap and accepted the offer. "Thank you." That was all she could get out though. As soon as she touched the handle, she gasped at the sudden tingling in her arm, as though she'd been shocked. The tingling quickly turned into a soothing warmth, and then vanished as suddenly as it had come. That hadn't happened when she'd grabbed it before... "What... What did you do to it?"

"Just remember my warning, and you'll be fine." The magic endued in that blade was some of his more prized work, and to see it in the hands of another caused a flurry of anxiety within his soul; anxiety that he tamped down before the women. As it stood he could barely look at Nina without wanting it back, and yet..."This isn't a gift so much it is a loan. Should you reach your destination, I will want it back and should you meet a foul end...you'll not be wanting to keep it, anyway."

He looked past Nina to Harper, bringing her into the fold now that she herself could no longer hide behind her pouting. "This makes the two of you equals, and gives you the same chance of success as your cat friend. More, if you account for her lack of wit." He grinned when Harper stuck her tongue out at him.

"I'll be sure to keep it in mind," she muttered, though sincerity showed through her irritated tone. She wasn't about to let her guard down on this mountain. She looked at the sword again, and tied the scabbard around her waist securely. "Well, unless there's anything else you can help us with.."

Looking back at Harper, she couldn't help a light snicker. "Come on, Equal. Let's get going. You have an amulet to find."

The noise Harper made at that moment was something between a snarl and someone about to cough up phlegm. She motioned to the darkened surroundings around them, tossing up her hands. "Now you want to go? In the middle of the night?" The cattaur gave the male a stern look. "I blame you for this."

He just grinned. "I inspired an adventurer. It's a compliment." The satyr turned to Nina, "May I suggest a night's rest? As promising as the search seems now, you'll need energy for the bog."

Blinking at the sound that came from the cattaur, Nina had to laugh. This encounter with the satyr seemed to have lifted her spirits. ..Or maybe it was having a solid blade in her possession to defend herself now. Either way, she slapped a hand over her mouth to stifle the noise. "Okay. Maybe there's hope for you after all, Harper."

Looking to the satyr, she nodded and returned to her previous spot. "I suppose a bit of rest would be helpful." It truly had been a long day. Fighting off bandits, being essentially kidnapped, the long wagon ride, dancing around the satyr, facing down the mountain.... It would tire out anyone. Body curling, she tucked in her arms to lay her head on them, facing out from the others. She wanted to be able to watch her back, and better listen for anything sneaking around out there while they slept. An adventurer... Her? ...The thought brought a small smile to her lips.

Harper rolled her head, lip stuck out in a pout," Mmm'hmm. Ya think?" Still, she couldn't hide the grin that found it's way to her face before she curled back up on her spot near the tree. Finding sleep difficult to fathom, but easy to obtain...

When at last she woke Harper wasn't sure it was morning, or later in the evening. She turned onto her back with a yawn, honey eyes turned towards the dense fog blotting the sun. The cattaur groaned. Really? They couldn't have just one day? It had been cool, if morbid, at first, but now...

Harper stretched out onto her paws, craning her head to check in on Nina and the saty- Where was he?! Harper sucked in her breath, fully prepared to wake Nina but decided against it. Him leaving was probably a good thing; at least he wasn't attacking them anymore!

So, instead, she slipped away to look for something worth calling Breakfast.

Nina's sleep was fitful, and it took a while for her to not wake up every five minutes. When she finally did get her sleep, she woke feeling sore and unrested. Ugh.. She would have been better of just going on last night than stopping.

Giving a big stretch, she looked up at the sky to see what time of day it was. ..Well, she tried to look up at the sky. Where had all this fog come from? Damned mountain. She looked over to where the satyr had been first. Not there, as she'd expected. When she turned to where Harper had been.. Damn! She jumped to her paws and ran over. The feline was gone. With the satyr, on her own, or someone else? Nina gripped the handle of the sword for comfort, and turned in a slow circle. "Harper?"

"Over here." Harper emerged from the darkened woods with an armload of sticks, and something wrapped up in a slip of cloth from her bag. "Calm down, already, I just went to grab something to eat." She shrugged her shoulders, showing her find.

The cattaur settled down on the ground and sat the covered meal off to the side as she concentrated on making the fire, which wasn't hard, when all you had to do was throw sticks in a pile and set it on fire with magic. With eager eyes, she held up her hands. "Okay, withhold your judgement, and remember where we are before you get mad over what I caught. It's got a lot of meat on it, and I'm going to eat it whether you do or not." Picking up the package, Harper held it out with her hands and pulled the cloth away to reveal....a large, bloated dire rat. "Tada!"

Nina turned toward the voice, her grip on the sword handle easing up. Calm down?!! She had to chew on the inside of her cheek to keep herself from spouting off about waking up along in this place. Instead, she took a deep breath and walked over to the fire to see what had been caught. "Just, if you're gonna leave while I'm asleep, go ahead and wake me."

Immediately, her nose wrinkled. A dire rat... "I'm willing to bet the hunting here is limited," she grunted, sitting down next to her companion. "..Thanks."

"...Sorry." Honestly, she was so used to people disappearing for days without so much as a warning that it hadn't occurred to her that it might be strange. Her father's did it all the time, as did her elder brother, and now Emma had started to venture off, which was worrisome.

"I don't know, there was a large selection of rats." She shrugged, giving a little sarcastic smile. Harper impaled the rat on a stick and propped it up before the fire. "So, today we'll go to the Bog, pass through it, and the portal there should take us straight to the top. If this all works out right we'll be out of here in no time at all."

Nina perked her ears with surprise. Sorry? Really? She'd gotten an apology?! Rather than make a scene, she simply nodded and leaned forward to rest her elbows on the ground.

"Out of here in no time," she said wistfully, looking over at the cooking rat. Not exactly gourmet, but she was glad that food was available. "Maybe we should catch another one or two of those? Cook the meat up for the trip in case there's nothing else to hunt further up."

After a long pause, she looked over at Harper. "So, your sister that you're doing this for... What's she like?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 12, 2013 2:06 pm

"That's not a bad idea," Harper pondered, wondering why she hadn't thought of it first. If she had, she could have already had them cooking as well. She turned the rat so that the untouched side could start to crisp.

"She's like...Spring." Harper said wistfully, a smile gracing her face. "Her name's Emma, and she's a fox, like papa, but she's sweeter. Softer, nicer than all of us." She pulled her forelegs up closer to her body. When I'm around her I always feel so relaxed. It's like when you sit outside on a Spring morning, and the winds blowing just right...." She took a deep breath and sighed.

Nina's expression softened as Harper talked about Emma. Slowly, she gave Harper and encouraging smile. "She sounds wonderful. I can see why you're risking this trip for her..." She looked back at the cooking rat, wondering what it was like to have a sister. She'd had her neighbors, but she'd never been particularly close to them. Just play pals. "Do you have any other siblings?"
