Xander nodded feeling a bit worried and hoping Jessie was just really clumsy as opposed to be off balance from hitting her head.
Xander gave her a rather blank stare, before giving a polite laugh to the joke that he didn't really find funny. Yeah a floor missing you was not really possible and he didn't find a joke up her being on it really funny.
Xander smiled and nodded, pie was good and he liked it well enough. At her question there was an automatic apple. He wasn't so great that the small talk thing. He lacked all the fluff a lot of people added and he answers could be rather bland.
A waittress approached with a box in hand that looked rather squished, before asking about pi, to which Xander answered, "3.14159," automatically giving no more or less than asked. "It's odd," he told the waittress, " to get free pie for only five digits. I'd think you guys would as for a larger amount, so it would be harder since the pie is on sale anyway."
The waittress gave him a look and asked him what flavor, to which he answered apple so the waittress turned to Jessie and asked the same of her.

Jessie was racking her brain for more 'polite conversation' topics but nothing really came to mind. The silence stretched with only the dinner noises to fill the emptiness that surrounded the table. There was some commotion when some guy (Noah) took a face dive at a table and apparently there was a cat who had gotten into the dinner, if what she had overheard was correct. She was about to mention it when the waitress approached the table... carrying of all things her squished box of pie. "Oh, my pie!" She said it softly and hoped that Xander or the waitress had heard her. Once Xander had ordered his pie she blushed brighter and admitted that the very battered box was her pie and that she would just like to buy another piece since she had already destroyed her 'pi' pie. "Apple as well if I may."

Xander felt a little bad for Jessie destroying her pie, but was happy she didn't seem to overly bother by it. The waitress took the two orders of apple pie and the wrap, Xander quickly remembered to order and stated she would be right back.
"Too bad your first pie was smashed, but at least there seemed to be enough pie to get more," she stated before his phone started buzzing in his pocket and his beeper went off. His phone alarm was telling his his lunch break was almost up and work was buzzing to get him back in for some reason.
Xander frowned, "I'm sorry I have to go. I didn't realize the time and there is a situation in the ER I believe. Probably another kid claiming to have been attacked by something unbelievable. I'm the best at handling those cases. They even shove the adults at me sometimes."
The waitress returned with their food and turned to leave, but Xander gave her a 50 and told her it was to pay the bill and the rest she could keep for a tip and asked for a box, which the waittress seemed very happy to get for him.

"Honestly I am a bit surprised the still have pie left considering how many people are in here." Jessie took another glance around the dinner, although it seemed to have emptied quite a bit from when she first stepped inside. Pie was a decent conversation topic and she was going to expand on it when two persistent buzzing interrupted her thoughts. "Oh I guess you only get so much time for lunch." She wasn't about to admit that she might end up as one of the adults that gets 'shoved' at him if she did go to the ER.
But when he gave the waitress the money for the food Jessie had to speak up. "Oh please let me pay. Or at least offer to return the favor some time, you did help me after all." The waitress was already gone so Jessie would have to concede to paying for the food but she hoped he would take her up on the return favor since she really disliked owing people things, even if it’s just for pie or being helped up of the floor.

Xander smiled and nodded, "a little more than this normally, but something is going on so it's getting cut short." He was boxing his food and preparing to leave, decided to try the diner again on a much less crowded day and a day when he was off from work.
At Jessies wanting to pay and return the favor, Xander just smiled and shook his head. "A gentleman always pays for a lady," he said, "just get yourself looked at okay. That will be more than enough to return the favor if you must. Maybe I'll see you there."
He grabbed up his box and gave Jessie was small wave before hurrying out of the diner, phone already in hand, to call the hospital and find out what was going on.

Jessie was just about to respond how there might have been, or even still was, a cat in the dinner but she was distracted once again by the waitress bringing back the boxes, two for Xander and one for herself. Apparently she thought that they were both on their way out and Jessie realized that she forgot to order food, real food and not pie. She was going to flag the waitress down and request a sandwich but decided it wasn't worth it right then since she was becoming completely tired of people and just wanted to be alone, so she boxed her pie. Hopefully this piece would survive the trip home.
Xander was gone before she was able to argue with him about 'payment'. She mentally went over the scales of getting 'looked at' as Xander requested versus the pie and the help. Did they balance out? She pondered over this question as she got up and cautiously made her way out of the dinner and to her bike, her ankle just twinging slightly. Since it was a personal request made by the person she owed it did indeed pay back the dept even though it was for her benefit. With this logic in mind she slowly made her way to the hospital to make sure she wasn't going crazy, her pie secure in the front bike basket.
