And that was exactly why you weren’t supposed to interfere with the hatchlings and other candidates. Quindrife prayed that Emora realized that she respected far too much, that she would have been at her side in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the fact that she knew that the girl didn’t need help, that she was so much stronger than what those that clustered around her gave her credit for.

“I’m sorry Emora,” she whispered in a monotone voice that cracked and wavered ever so slightly but barely vocalized beyond her lips. The gorgeous blonde had to know that she wasn’t trying to help her because she knew that she was strong. Right? She had to know that. There was something there--- the rainbow haze of impression, had the little green that wounded her just chosen her friend as its lifemate? Was Zofer still refusing to let go of the girl even though it was so apparent what was happening? That f*cking moron. Balling her hands into fist Quindrife couldn’t handle the boiling rage that lifted under her skin and made the temperature of the sand seem frigid in comparison, he needed to go back to his Flying Harlot and leave dragon business to those that understood it and didn’t consider the honor just some landlocked holiday. Sneering the masculine brunette spun on the heels away from the sight of Emora, Mari, and Zofer and tried to best to focus on the brown hatchling putzing around with its shell and acting like it was going to waste away right there that instant without something decently delicious being stuffed into its snout.

After a moment of hesitation the senior healers decide that Emora's condition is serious enough that the irate dragonet is just going to have to live with someone touching her rider.

"See if you can lure the baby away with some meat," a male healer tells Cai. "And try to let her know that we're helping her person will you?"

His expression says that he is not taking this injury lightly, despite his apparent calm. He has simply been trained for this for most of his life and is accustomed to dealing with high-stress situations.

"Try to get a look at the wings, too. We don't want them damaged." Because examining a scared and angry dragonet's wings was a piece of cake, right?

Mari

"That is likely not good," Mari muttered unhelpfully as Emora fainted, blackout? There wasn't much of a difference between the two, beside the fact her hands were covering a mess of ick. She eyed the little green sternly and frowned. "We might want to get a bucket of meat over here for the baby... I think Emora impressed, and she not going to be moving around much." Hopefully the little green didn't between having just found and injured hers. Not like it was the little things fault. Impression was the only reason Mari could think that the little thing was so fixated on Emora.

The healers were here? Ooh, good. Mari moved away slowly, trusting the healers would know what to do and the wound to have hopefully slowed to a ooze not squirting blood.

Squirting blood was icky.

Rodana

Ouch. That looked like it hurt. The two greens who’d been first to hatch got into a squabble, one of the Candidates was in the middle, and she went down bleeding pretty good. Luckily it looked like several nearby folks were going to her rescue? But still. Rodana winced, then shook her head.

“And that wasn’t even the angry one? Yikes. Well, I doubt any raging dragonets are going to come all the way up here just to tear us up, so we’re probably safe… did that blue Impress? Or is he just going straight for the food and skipping the rider step entirely?” She couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought. Because really now. The thought of riderless tubby dragon just… roaming around the Weyr forever (impossible though it was) was hilarious.

Zofer
The calming (if you could call it that) of the green hatchling clued Zofer into what might have happened. Though with Mari there he couldn't be sure. All he knew was that Emora has fallen unconsious against him and that was a Bad Thing. "Emora!" He shouted her name, smacking her cheek with his hand, trying to wake her back up.

The healer's were beside him though, at least, an adult and an apprentice.

Cai

Be careful what you wish for. Scratches, bruises, maybe a scuffed shin or something. Not a young woman with half her side torn out. The amount of blood was suffice to say startling. "We need to take her now." the redhead managed to say. She'd been taught not to move injuries like that but they couldn't treat her out on the hot sands with unrestrained dragons running around. She looked to the Healer at her side for guidance. She could be bossy later, now she trusted his judgement.

She nodded to the healer, leaving the new weyrling's side in a run to grab a handful of meat chunks from the feeding bowls before returning. She dangled them infront of the hatchling, nerves rattled more now than ever. It was like taunting a wher. "We're taking her to fix her. She's injured. She'll be alright as long as we can do our jobs." She had no idea if the hatchling was listening or not. She kept up the commentary. "I'll feed you while the Healer's tend to her. Just come with us. Let us help her."

Auri stood among her fellow candidates and watched the eggs hatch. The robes she had to wear were unbearably plain. And these shoes were even worse. Why couldn't she have worn the ones with the gold buckles? Wasn't she trying to impress these dragons?

Soon the eggs began to hatch and two began to emerge.

She watched in awe as the little greens stumbled around on the sands. Was it really looking at her?!

"H-Hi!" she stuttered as it looked her way

Then as if from the air she heard it's voice ring out the little dragon said she had chosen Auri!

Wealth eh? she thought to herself. How appropriate.

Auri reached down to the beautiful girl and pat her gently on her head. Seems we have good taste little one. Auri scanned the crowd for Dagner's reaction. A big grin spread across her face. She was so pleased with herself that Auri didn't even notice the girl bleeding across from her.

"First pick brother!"

Skelly

Skelly relaxed, shoulders soften and rounding as he hunkered in at himself, relived. Mari was fine, dirty, but then that was not really uncommon when she got lost in things. Mari was ... well Mari. He turned back to the brown and watched it smack the egg, again! Then continue it attempt to be sneaky? It was hard to be sneaky considering it was a dragon, a hatchling but there wasn't really many things to hide behind.

Caelan

Don't you da... Caelan winced as Mari absently mindedly started to wipe her bloody hands on the robe. Blood never came out of white clothing, though considering what the robes were meant for, they likely were created cheap. Still, that was his sister, standing in blood robes without a care in the world that there was a green snarl beast next to her. The little green could harm his sister, unlikely but still with Emora unconscious their was chance.

Hungry little things....How strange they were. So small. Seikih smiled a tiny bit. Though she would love to help them, her intention was clear, watch. Stay observant. She was a Starcrafter. She wanted a strong little one who could fly high, above the rest. Her heart was set to watch each dragonet. As they emerged, she looked over each, impressed and confused at the same time. These little ones were so different from their larger counterparts...she wondered what they'd be llike once they'd impressed with their Riders...

Jennes noticed with some concern that the hurt Candidate didn't seem to be getting up, and there was quite a bit of blood on the sands. And the green wasn't leaving her? Had she Impressed? If so, she was not making the healers' jobs any easier by continuing to cling to her rider. The paler green seemed sedate by comparison, seemingly having Impressed to another girl with no more fuss.

The blue in the egg was still trying to get to the food, despite his mother clearly forbidding him from doing so. Food would come to all of them in time, but he wouldn't have long to enjoy it if he didn't Impress soon. Still, it was kind of cute how adamantly he went for it.

From the direction of the unhatched eggs comes a piteous and piercing squeal. Even the determined blue pauses in his attempts to reach the food and turns to see what all the racket is about. He seems to think that it's coming from the Ovate Egg, making it the first time the egg's done anything since being laid.

The blue slogs through the sand which covers him almost completely at this point, making him more of a brown than a blue, and knocks his chin against the Ovate Egg. He's a large, sturdy blue, and apparently not suffering much from this task, except for being starving, of course. Mustn't forget that.

At last a brilliant blue head emerges from low on the curve of the Ovate Egg and flops to the ground. The eyes are open and a pleasant shade of blue. He sighs tragically.

His task done, the first blue decides he has earned a reward and begins to prance over toward the meat.

Skelly

"Ooh," Skelly paused looking at the blue that had just came out of the Ovate egg. Brilliantly blue and calm and just lying there. He smiled slightly, slowly straightening up. A blue wouldn't be so bad... at least he now knew the Ovate egg hadn't been a dud or even injured. Lazy to be sure though. Making his brother hatch him out.

Caelan

Caelan looked over the lazing blue and ... no, it wasn't a brown it was a other blue? It must have gotten sandy or dirty when his hide had been wet and confused them all. Well the tropical egg blue seemed more interested in the food still then them. Actually, it was prancing as if freeing it sibling deserved a snack.

Wonderful little meat hunter! Jadros smiled, wondering if the little dragon shouldn't be rewarded for helping the other little blue out from its egg. Though the dragonet from the ovate egg still seemed sad and floppy, he was at least able to see some of the world around him. Hopefully he would stick around long enough to see a bit more.

"Happy times," he chuckled to himself, "that little blue should find its rider and get some meat!" It was supposed to be a tune, but there was absolutely no meter or sense of fluidity in the lyrics, as though he was more sing-talking than actually trying to make a song.

His father had never expected him to be much of a harper, and for good reasons. Still, he was happy and it made him want to sing, even if it was only to himself.

He had to continue to watch- things were getting interesting again, with two dragons, this time the pairing a blue couple, wandering about. Of course, neither seemed remotely interested in finding a riding, but that was PROBABLY going to change eventually... right?

"Oh!" Iliyana exclaimed, and this time she did step forward, with a gasp. Such precious little blues, and that poor lazy fellow looked like he didn't want to come out of his egg at all. Silly creature! Almost as silly as his hungry brother, the blonde thought as she turned to watch the not-really-a-brown try to make his way back toward the food again.

Dagner stood on the hatching sands, mouth open, eyes filled with indignation.

Auri had Impressed.

He didn't even notice the hatchlings struggle out of their eggs - he was too overcome with irritation, jealousy, and -

He spun around, sending the towel in his hair sliding to his shoulders. He crossed his arms and pouted sullenly, refusing to acknowledge his sister.

The newest blue turns his head a fraction, scanning the candidates, perhaps, or maybe just settling his chin more comfortably on the sand. He is certainly making no further effort to hatch properly.

Quindrife? a weak voice says in the candidate's head. Please come get your Sloth? And bring him to the food? It is so very far away.

The larger blue's prancing catches his mother's attention, prancing while his brother Impresses, and the gold rumbles. It's directed at him. Everyone can hear it, but he knows. She's telling him to do his duty and find his bond before he can eat. Again comes the long-suffering sigh followed by a pointed look at his brother. He helped his brother Impress. Isn't that good enough?
