The urge to just scoot over and snuggle up was strong. Jordan compromised by scooting over enough that their feet were touching. "I really could sleep on this," he said meditatively. "I feel a nap coming on."

Rep had to agree and was already getting attached to the warm and comfy spot he currently occupied. "Aye. It's more comfortable the more you lie on it." He finally shook off bed inertia to roll onto his side, propped up on an elbow as he eyed Jordan. His anxieties about other people being around had receded almost entirely and he was at this point just flat out feeling content.
"It's pretty shitty that we only get twelve hours on shore. We could have gone back to Vegas, made a night of it, then slept in nice new bed the next night. Like Christmas come early." The mention of Vegas earlier had him thinking fondly again of the lights and bustle of the place. "Though whole new bed is a bit like that anyway, I guess. ******** I am going to just stay in it for days. Just ******** hibernate."

"Brand new mattress with nice new sheets that have never been used," Jordan said, almost reverently. "Merry Christmas to us."

B0nez had zero bed preferences, but he did have an interest in mattress min-maxing.
When Harrison finally found a manager, it was with a list of numbers and exacting requirements. About 10% firmer than the floor X-model number brand. Titanium coils. Specific dimensions. Harrison looked the opposite of respectable, but he talked with a certain amount of authority that was hard not to get hooked into.
By the time he got back to the boys, it was with an older man in a polo shirt trailing sycophantically behind him.
"You guys got to take a look at this," Harrison said.
They wound through the aisles of bedframes and pillow advertisements, was a bed that was nothing short of imposing.
"A pillowtop UltraKing," Harrison announced, "with Titanium springs and 100% Belgium cotton."

Rep couldn't help but smile approvingly, mentally rolling it around in his head. Merry Christmas. He'd heard that a lot in the past but never really felt it. And there had never really been an us.
He liked it.
"This Christmas thing is pretty good."

Jordan studied the massive bed critically, checked the tag, pressed on the mattress with his hand. It was mostly for show, though; he was pretty sure that Harrison had located a bed they'd be happy with. "It looks good," he said.

Rep tagged along eagerly and took in the bed of his dreams. Now this was just the right level of ridiculous.
"Oh my god. I want it."

"Wait til you feel it," Harrison said, putting a hand beside Jordan's and pressing into the cloudy depths of the bed. "I haven't lay on it yet." He wanted them to try it out together.
Like Rep, the extra edge of bigger and better called to him.
He liked the sound of UltraKing.

"No time better than the present," Jordan said. He climbed onto the mattress and flopped down. Then he hummed thoughtfully. "Wow."

Rep took the same flying leap as before, narrowly missing Jordan as he sprawled starfish mode on the bed. It was easy to occupy as much of the possible space in the bed back on Deus. This one was an impossible challenge.
"If we get this one, you can just send out a ******** search party for me in the afternoons" he stretched with a satisfied crack of sinew and muscle and flopped back with a sigh.
"Yes."

Harrison had plenty of space to join them, thoughtfully ignoring the staff member he'd dragged along and letting himself sink on down into the cushiony depths. Gone were the days of their bed being a lumpy pit, and nobody was in danger of rolling into a gravity-heavy pile in the middle, stuck between mattresses. It was like settling down into air.
B0nez was pleased about the optimization, Rep and Jordan's pleased sighs registering like full heart tanks on whatever counter he kept track of things on.
There was a kind of luxuriousness about it.
Wine and gold curtains.
Harrison didn't feel sleepy. He'd handled the binoculars to no effect, and the next day looked through them- that was the trigger, he guessed. And he was familiar with the feeling by now. Relaxed. Coiled. Aware. ...Still. He planned on using the extra time to work on some gifts using Moon building supply scraps and his room, which he'd be moving out of soon. He counted on it lasting a week last time, but if it kept on increasing (or decreasing) or some s**t like that, he'd have to be careful with it.
"Is that three yeses? Or you guys want to keep looking?"

"I'm good with this one," Jordan agreed. He thought about sitting up, then opted not to. "That is, I like it. A lot. I'll put money on that." Risking their lives and putting up with all kinds of weird s**t deserved a little payback in the form of comfort.
Ferros agreed contentedly. His idea of the perfect bed had more scrap metal in it, but he was aware that fleshy kinds of people didn't find that comfortable, and he was enjoying how comfortable Jordan was.

"Don't need tae look any further."

The mattress taken care of, there were still the accessories.
A set of egyptian cotton sheets were on sale at such a good price they ended up snagging two: one in gold and one in blue. They all had a kinda bias for that color pairing. They found a light, multicolor duvet, after talking Rep out of the ones fluffy and heavy heavy enough to weather the North Pole.
Pillows were personal preference. Harrison just got one, a slim (but cushy) foam pillow. It was a hell of a lot better than the half-starved pillows he normally used, but still familiar enough to get some sleep on. And if they were washing pillow cases, he'd know which one was his.
The portal wasn't far, hidden in a copse of trees on the outskirts of the parking lot, so after divvying up the costs, they loaded everything up onto the new mattress, still in its plastic-wrap.
Harrison couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but he hummed an off-version of It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas under his breath anyhow.
