It was harder than he thought to try to run quickly downhill. The slope helped him gain speed, but he had to work hard to stay in control.

Now it was time to go back uphill. He skirted a few rocks and burst up the hill with as much speed as he could muster.

He pushed on, keeping his bay blue eyes alert for any tricky spots.

He slowed way down, almost having to stop to catch his breath.

His up hill climb wasn't going so well. His legs felt weak and shaky, but he was nearly there! Just a few more paces, he couldn't stop to pant now!

No longer skidding, Thistledown finally reached Crow. She hardly spared him a glance before turning around, ready to head back to the scrapes. Only half the race was done, there was still time to prove herself!

Dove climbed the rest of the way and collapsed at the top of the hill. His legs were wobbly and his chest was heaving but at least he made it all in one piece!

Oxlip had to run sideways for a short while to avoid dangerous ground,and he lost some time. But he was getting steadily closer to Crow and he would soon be at the bottom of the down.

Oxlip finally reached the bottom of the hill, he nodded to Crow and waited a few heartbeats to catch his breath before dashing uphill again. Hopefully the delay would serve him well in the end.

It was easier to keep balanced, running uphill, but it took much more energy. His gamble seemed to pay off, and he was able to run at full speed when he started the climb.

This was bad... He could feel a pain in his side and he hoped he'd be able to walk it off, so to speak. He kept climbing, but he was far from quick.

Oxlip picked up speed again, the pain faded and he pushed himself to run as fast as he could again. It might backfire on him later, but he was running past other rabbits now and he didn't want to lose because he tried to preserve energy.

Falcon was proud of how he finished the downhill part of the race. Now he needed to push hard and show how good he was. No longer did he have to worry about his footing as much as speed and endurance. So he started off going back up as hard and fast as his legs could take him.
