The Red Queen Audition
Location: Red Palace
Seated on her throne, she was browsing the internet on her phone and idly wondering what was taking so long for her drink to be delivered to her. A butler finally appeared with her Pomegranate Martini and handed it to her.
“Here you are, your Highness.” He bowed slightly as he offered the drink to her.
Her eyebrow arched as her eyes narrowed. “How many times do I have to tell ya’ll? Speak only when you’re spoken to!
talk2hand ” She sighed and took the drink as she waved away the butler and took a sip of her drink.
The Red King leaned over to speak to her. “Now
Vilkat…that wasn’t necessary...
sweatdrop ”
She turned and gave him a withering glance. “You too? Speak only when you’re spoken to!
stressed Sheesh….are all ya’ll that dense?
rolleyes Or do you just not remember the manners that were taught to you when you were younger?”
She made short work of her drink and then stood up.
“Come on, Hauk…let’s go out to the garden and see the chessboard. And don’t you worry a bit about the other chess pieces, I’m here to protect you.
wink ” She gave him a saucy wink and stood there waiting for him to stand and join her. When he didn’t rise right away to escort her outside, she crossed her arms and tapped the toe of her boot on the marble floor.
He joined her and the two went outside to the garden. The garden was a large expanse of green, and only red flowers were allowed, per her decree. She began her customary walk around the grounds, inspecting each and every flower to make sure it was up to standard. She came across one rosebush and stopped in her tracks. When he asked her why they stopped so suddenly, she merely pointed at the WHITE flower that dared bloom in her lovely garden of RED roses.

“What is the meaning of this?!
scream ” She yelled, and the nearby caretakers cringed at the sound. (her drawl did tend to make them cringe on occasion) “SOMEONE had better explain to me WHY there is a WHITE rose amongst my beautiful RED roses!

”
One of the knaves approached her cautiously and stammered out a response.
“W-w-well, you see…your Majesty….there are times when even a red rosebush just m-might bloom a white flower on the rarest of occasions…..

” His voice stammered and his face red from nervousness. She merely stood there staring at him, her arms crossed under her bosom and an eyebrow arched as if she didn’t believe a word he was saying to her.
“That is no excuse,
talk2hand ” she said with a flip of her hand. “OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
scream ” She screeched pointing at him, and two other knaves appeared immediately to drag away the offender. She turned and continued on her walk in the garden and didn’t see the King shake his head “no” to the knaves, thus sparing the life of the accused knave.
She stopped and turned as the King reached her side, and he took her arm as they continued their walk in the garden. He sighed slightly and spoke quietly to her.
“Now,
Vilkat…what was up with that nonsense back there?
confused ”
She laughed and swatted his arm playfully, “You may call it "nonsense" if you like," she said, "but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!

"
She grinned at him, “Besides, you know how much attention to detail I give everything. I’m actually surprised that you’d dare to call it nonsense, knowing what the consequences might be.
twisted ” She gave him a knowing smile and the two continued their walk around the grounds.
