"Devon it's okay I'm fine for the most part." Lark told him sniffing as she watched him grip the window pane for dear life. "And I don't think I have you wrapped around my finger after all I can't really boss the alpha male of a wolf pack around and even if you weren't I wouldn't anyway besides if you didn't want to be used as a model your welcome to say no I'll understand." Lark said blinking in shock as he claimed her as his she didn't know what that mean't to him but to her it mean't everything she felt the weakness come over her again and the blackness around her vision. "Devon." was all she said before the fever came back in force

Devon turned to her as he said his name. She had lost consciousness once more. He was by her side in an instant and placed his hand on her forehead. She was burning up again. He sat down and took that wet rag and daubed it on her forehead, wiping the tears from her face then daubing her wrists. He didn't know if she was conscious enough to still understand him. "Lark. You don't understand. Whether you think so or not, I'd do anything you asked." he whispered. He smiled and shook his head. "I really have gone soft. I've allowed a little bird to hook her talons in me." he chuckled dryly to himself. He'd taken over for Sheryl today. She claimed she needed rest. He did too, but he couldn't bring himself to. Not until her fever finally broke. That woman had known this. "Get better soon, Lark." he murmured, replacing the cold rag on her hot forehead. He sat back. All he could do now was watch and wait.

Sadly Lark didn't hear him in fact her fever reached it's peak higher then it had been before and she was deep asleep but she was tossing and turn and shivering as if she was cold sweat bead on her forehead and the cold rag seemed to have no effect her breathing became ragged and shallow as her heart slowed to a dangerously slow pace

The longer Devon stayed by her side the worse she began to get. Her fever climbed higher than it had before. Finally he pulled out his cell to call that doctor. By the time he arrived she was so much worse. He loomed over the man as he looked over Lark once more. He could tell that made the doctor nervous but he didn't care. He just wanted her well. After giving her something to lower the fever he stood. "She needs to rest as much as possible. If it were safe I'd say to take her to a hospital but moving her now would not be a good thing. You'll have to let her rest and hope for the best." he advised. So Devon paced the room. Re-fixing the blanket around her and replacing the rag often until her fever finally broke.

Lark woke up a few minutes after her fever broke her big strawberry brown eyes opened but her vision was fuzzy she saw a shape moving around but she couldn't tell who it was for sure she just assumed it was her mother forgetting her mother was somewhere far away having the time of her life. "Mom." She managed to croak out

Devon turned as she spoke. He was tired but very relieved that she was no longer fevered. Now if they could get her strength up they wouldn't have to worry anymore. Right now she was too weak even to recognize him. For now he didn't really care who she thought he was. He took the thermos from the table. The contents were no longer warm anymore. So he grabbed the water instead. Gently, he helped lift her up. "Drink this." he said.

Lark groaned as the water pasted her lips but she drank it as if she never had water before when she was let down her weak eyes still searched the room and finally came back to Devon who she still though was her mother from the gentle tones of the voice unable to tell yet it was male. "Mommy where am I this isn't home is it and wheres dad." She moaned out sinking into the pilows

Devon's lips quirked up in a smirked. Mommy? He chuckled. "Don't worry Lark. Rest. I'll be back." he told her. He doubted she would even notice his absence for long. She needed food. Grabbing the thermos he when downstairs. It was about five minutes before he returned with a bowlful of warm liquid. "You still awake?" her murmured, looking down on her weak form.

Lark groaned as she moved her head toward the door unable to see it but hearing it just as well she could smell the food and it made her stomach growl with hunger as the sick girl found her self to be half starving her eyes were still bright even if they were a little glassy. "Mom the monster came back again and he keeps scaring me."

Devon flinched at her words. What monster did she mean? Him? Or the one that kidnapped her? Well, he was the only one that she'd seen more than once. Sitting down, he lifted her into a sitting position. She was so light it was no trouble at all to hold her up. "Lark. I'm not your mother." he sighed, It was a unless this to say, but there was no taking it back now. "Think you can hold this down?" The bowl of soup was placed in her lap. She seemed too weak to even hold her own spoon. So he brought the spoon to her lips. "You don't have to worry about monsters anymore. I told you I wouldn't let anything harm you. Not while I'm alive." he said, filling the air with his own talk. He hoped to bring her out of her daze. And if it didn't then maybe it would at least help her relax.

Lark blinked at first she was confused if this wasn't her mother then who was it she prayed it wasn't the big grey monster but soon the voice broke through her daze and shocked and she gasped her eyes clearing a little. "Devon thank goodness your here I thought I saw that grey monster again earlier what happened to it anyway." She never men't Devon was a monster she was talking about the one that almost killed her at his words she relaxed a bit but she was still worried and she looked at him finally confused. "But why would you even want to protect me anyway?" She asked sipping the soup slowly testing her stomach

Devon answered her first question bluntly. "You don't have to worry about him. He's dead." Once she finished the first spoonful he brought the next one up. There was no easy way to answer her second question. Frankly, he wasn't sure how. It wasn't like he sat around talking about feelings all day. He sighed and looked down at Lark's face. "Because... I can't bare the thought of anything happening to you." he said quietly. It was part of the truth.

"But why would it matter to if anything bad happened to me." Lark asked eating the soup with more confidence that she seemed to hold it down now and something else confused her before she had went to sleep again the last time her had more or less snarled out the fact that she was now his but did he mean by that. "We haven't known each other for long in fact it hasn't even been two days in fact I don't even know what you meant when you said I belong to you."

Devon looked away. "Strange huh? I don't fully understand it myself." he started. He paused as he thought about why he felt the way he did. Two days. The first he had been angry that she had stumbled on her. Thinking now he had never been angry at her. He been angry he let his guard down. When she begged him to let her go, he felt that she would tell anyone a thing. That she was trustworthy, and ever since she was on his mind. He already planned protection and claim responsibility for her. Before he knew it, she was under his skin. It was like his father had said happened with his wife. His mate. She was a different kind of woman but the reaction was the same. He wanted to reject the idea but he couldn't. And he could bring himself to lie to Lark either. "It means I've fallen for you Lark. It doesn't make sense, but I have. There is no one else for me." he stated, and chuckled dryly. "You are mine. And I am yours... if you'll have me."

Lark blinked and leaned over and kissed his check the best she could given the fact she was so weak and the fact she had soup on her lap. "Your right it is strange I mean how can you fall for a weak human like me I mean I not that pretty and I'm coward as you well know. What can you possibly see in me.?" She asked him playing with her hair nervously
