User Image"Well, hm. The two of you are so lovely and eye catching. I couldn't help myself." Noooo, that wasn't creepy at all. She closed her eyes tight in complete embarrassment. Not only was she not doing her job at all, but she was now bothering the patrons. Rise was going to fire her for sure.

"Ahh. Well. Reticent Smiles. Most just call me Smiles?" She said it with such a timid voice she wasn't entirely sure he'd hear all of it. "What. What do they call you?"

"Smiles..."

Fire smiled, just saying her name. Such a lovely name. He bowed his head, flustering slightly at her compliment.

"Thank you. We often get comments on how we... stand out." He chuckled. "My name is Fire Fall Down, but you can just call me Fire..." he paused, remembering what he told Flame earlier. Though he was pretty sure an incident like that happening with this doe was much less likely. "Or Fall, if you'd prefer."

He nodded towards his sister, totally oblivious to the two of them.

That there is Fan Into Flame. I usually call her Flame, but Flame could work too."

User Image"Fire. Flame. Th-th-those are very fitting names." She trailed off and looked up at him. She was in idiot. What else were they going to be named? Something water related?

"Do the two of you, ah, a-al-always. D-differ so from one another?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Empty shells were neatly picked up and cleared away from the event ground, and soon the area was bereft of them. Much to Rise's delight, they had the pleasure of emptying the turtle shell and removing it ahead of time, giving Fire in the Hole a while to crawl out of the pit for a smoke break. A gentle nudge from a hoof had it dutifully slide back into the construct, and before long, the flames flickered anew.

He swept his gaze across the crowd, glowing eyes locating his staff one by one, and nodded solemnly to indicate the start of the next course. (And if they hadn't caught his super-secret signal, they'd find out from the rest soon enough.) Rise started to heave a massive boar with Fell out to the pit, steps slow and dramatic from the sheer weight. It had been pierced through with a strong, sharp branch, and was now to be suspended above the pit upon rudimentary stands. As it was placed, the flames flared up - the salamander knew what had to be done.

Once that was set up, Rise announced the next course. "And now, the appetiser! It’s a change of pace, but definitely no less delicious!"

THE APPETISER
For the meats had been cooked before -
the deep aroma and the texture of the salmon coming from a wondrous herb and salt soak, and a patient smoking!
The other meat was similarly prepared, but with such a different taste, for it was caiman, clearly a showpiece.
With the intensity of the smoked meats was the sweetness of sundried plums, creating a balanced course full of flavour.

The boar was a stunning sight, but the strength of these foods, wrapped neatly in individual leaf bundles, would not disappoint the tongue while the mind was entertained. And speaking of entertainment, it was time for another Royal Rainbow Troupe performance.

Quiverstep pranced onto the stage, a sand dog weaving in and out of his legs (a little trick that Rogue had taught him). Reaching the centre, the Acha turned to face the audience and addressed the crowd, a brilliant smile plastered on his face. “LADIES and gentlebucks, I trust that you have been enjoying your night thus far. Tonight, I will be singing for your entertainment. This first song tells of our great homeland...”

He paused to scan the crowd once round with a smile before closing his eyes, preparing himself. A moment later, beautiful song poured forth from his mouth – a heartfelt tune of the wonders of the desert. His voice dipped and then rose, soaring higher and higher, before spiralling down again – his favourite. The next song was a sweet little melody of childhood days, his sand dog Primrose joining in at certain beats, yapping in time with his voice. Song after song, the Acha sang; songs of happiness, songs of woe, songs of love and friendship… there was even a fun little song about a doe named Bitterleaf.

Before the last song, Quiver stopped to address the crowd again, a twinkle in his eyes. “One more song, my dear friends… for YOU!”

He may be scared of a number of things but performing was not one of them, and as Quiverstep sang of merry-making and the splendour of his cousins, he bounded off the stage to dance through the crowd. By the song's end, he had arrived back at his station, slightly out of breath.

“Thank-you, thank-you,” he cried, bowing deeply at the audience. “Enjoy the rest of the show!”
And with that, he bounded of the stage again, Primrose at his heels.

Fire smiled.

"As is yours. Such a lovely name, suitable for quite a sweet doe such as you." He tilted his head at her question, pondering it for a moment.

"Well, we do look alike, but I guess our personalities can be quite opposite. As you can see, Flame is a bit more... outgoing. Once you get her going on about something, she never stops. I, on the other hand... well, I guess I'm more likely to end one, usually to save the poor kin from being doomed to a never-ending conversation," he laughed.

While this was normally true, he felt that this time, he was the one mainly starting the conversations, with Flame pulling him out of it.

As if on cue, a buck came out, announcing the appetizer, and there was a new performance, with another acha and... sandog? (Fire had never really seen one before) now singing beautiful songs. Flame turned her eyes to Fire, eyes wide, pleading, begging.

Fire turned back to the doe. "Speaking of ending conversations, I am terribly sorry about this, Smiles. It seems my sister is dying to see more of the entertainment, and..." he lowered his head, apologetic.
"Is it possible for me to try some of that delicious-looking appetizer also?"

Thinking of ending this in my next post, if that's alright~
We can always start up another conversation later on if you'd like!

The singing was enchanting, Bog was once again astonished at the range of talents that different Kin held. The meat was superb, as well, and she had to stop herself from asking for a third portion of both savory meats, instead, she decided to chat with the waiters. "Excuse me," she stopped a waiter who looked less busy than others,"But I can't help but ask, how did you take down that boar? It looks huge, and I would be most interested in the strategy that your family used, and who the hunters were." If she managed to talk to any of the hunters an interesting conversation was guaranteed, and maybe she could ask for a friendly match after the party! The road to perfection never ends, after all.

He had not smelled the luscious foods available, no, but rather... a voice. Music of the Night had heard at first only whispers of a fantastic voice on the air, and followed it until he came upon this gathering. He stood at the edge of the crowd, golden eyes staring at the acha that danced and sang his way through his act. Beautiful. Simply wonderful. Song after song and he did not disappoint.

His eyes watched as food was brought out to the other patrons, but he had more interest in the performance at the moment. As the acha finished and left the stage, he moved silently around to where he could catch his attention.

"Bravo," he said, voice smooth, "A most excellent performance."

"Ah, why thank-you good sir, I'm glad my performance was to your liking. I trust you are enjoying yourself?"

Primrose sniffed at the Kimeti's feet, curious of the stranger.

He had that effect on people, with the silent footsteps and all. The startled expression that others got when he approached had long ago lost its affect on him. It was a part of him.

"Of course," he replied with a curt nod, "Any place that offers fine music and entertainment I can find enjoyment in." His eyes fell to the sand dog, curious as he had not encountered one before in his travels.

"A beautiful animal," he said, "Does it have a name?" He admired what he had heard of the animals, dainty and esteemed hunters. To see one as a performer must be quite a thing!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Left had hung back miserably in the shadows, still smarting from his abject failure as a waiter - but when the doe hailed him over, he had no choice but to put a brave face on and sally forth to field her questions. ...Ah. The boar hunt. Left was possibly the least qualified individual in the entire store to talk about the hunt. Hunting and Left got on about as well as a caiman and a foxbun - and he wasn't the caiman. What he would give to be able to fob this off to one of the hunters that she inquired of...but they were not here. It had been their ersatz cousins, Cue, Death, and Cry (as it usually were where ridiculously dangerous animals were involved) who had subdued the tremendous beast - and while Death, at least, would have well loved to stay for the plaudits, the scale of the event had taxed the store's inventory so, the tribe's dedicated hunters had been dispatched to as recover as much as stock as possible. Cry had even left his overworked foxbun at the store, such was the urgency of the operation. He looked around desperately for Killing Moon, or Run, who at least were fine hunters themselves - but they were also the finest waitstaff, and he could only barely pick up their swift forms busy back and forth attending to several guests at once. He was on his own.

"I am sorry to inform you that our dedicated hunters are not currently present at the event, miss," he began, "the boar was brought down by an elite team of three, who sometimes go by the name Cue Death Cry." He paused. That was all he really knew...but the rapt interest on her face made it clear more had been expected than this ridiculously paltry information, and Left was desperate not to let down the family by disappointing another customer - so he did the only thing anybody really could in this situation. He started making things up.

"Their methods are varied, and I would suspect that some would be considered trade secrets by our team," he launched anxiously into a convoluted mishmash of fact and wild speculation disguised as fact, "but just between the two of us, I can divulge that the hunting of this particular beast was fraught with much danger, for the animal was uncommonly strong and aggressive - it had already skewered a number of wild lynxes and hounds unlucky enough to cross its bloody path that day. But no order is too tall for our team - at least two of its members are able enough that, on a good day, a full-grown alligator may be felled with a single, solo blow. The difficulty of it lay with the fact that the boar had to be as little harmed as possible - for we could not serve our guests tattered meat. Thus, a complicated system had to be utilised. I cannot reveal too much of it, but it involved tag-team evasion, geographical triangulation on the fly, and a dedicated series of reinforced traps. You can see that the efforts have been worth it, wouldn't you say, miss?"

The soup had been lovely, and it only left the male to wonder what was next in this slight night of discovery. He'd seen more enter, all settling down to eat and one who seemed to wish to speak with a performer. It was calm and none seemed to wish violence, a good thing in such a setting. One could only imagine the disaster that a fight could settle upon such a place.

Finding the soup finished, Wilted Branches gave a slightly surprised lick to his lips. So good he'd not even noticed he'd finished it! Well... perhaps there was something new to try? Or even more soup! With another turn of the head, he looked out to find Sunspot. So lovely she was...

"Dear Sunspot!" He called out, spying her near the area she'd gone to get the soup the first time. He gave a light smile and politely awaited her arrival at his seating area, not sure if he was allowed to step over or not.

Ruriska
Sunspot, because what's better than dinner and lovely company? XD [/hug]

User ImageSmiles wasn't sure what to say. This was one of only two times that she could recall being openly complimented. "I- Oh. T-t-thaaaa-" Her ears twitched as she, too, caught the announcement that the appetizers were to be brought out. When the music started she knew it was definitely her cue to get to work.

"Ahh," that answered that. "The two of you are, uhm, well very sweet." She was floundering ... Brightening up just a tad at his request for some of the appetizers, she smiled her fullest with a nod.

------

She dashed away, slithering in and out of the groups of other kin to grab two of the nearest bundles of meats and plums. Returning in no time with both grasped firmly in her mouth, she lay them out before Fire.

Her voice turning down to little more than a whisper she glanced down at the ground and anywhere that wasn't the buck she was talking to. "
Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I hope we can talk again another time?"

With a turn, she vanished back into the throng. All the while shaking her head at herself and hoping for a hole to hide in for the rest of her life.
