Rin face planted into a nice fire ant pile in the fall and promptly leapt up trying to brush the painful ******** off her face and hair, "AUGH!" loosely translated that may have meant she very much was not okay. Once she was sure she got far enough away from them and was rid of every last one she gently tugged Ami's hand again, she'd rather not discuss nearly being eaten alive by little bugs or the resulting welts on her ears and fingers. Please no more stinging insects.

If I'm even able to summon you like this.

"So - branch," she ducked, "Tell me about yourself?"

After the initial angry outburst, Rep wasn't sure at all what to make of Petra. Once she was back in a somewhat focused mode, she had an intensity of concentration about her that he found hard to place. It was unusual to run into someone who made him feel studied as much as he felt he was studying them, it made him oddly self concious. Like he was looking in a scary mirror that threatened his genitals.

She took far too long - as far as he was concerned - to get up. The whole jungle was going to murder them by the time she brushed herself off, he thought, on the verge of jumping up and down impatiently on the spot. She was not appreciating the severity of this ******** jungle thing. Even despite the real threat of the place, he was still acutely aware of the fact that he was in forced contact with womanhand, and that he couldn't get Petra out of his personal space at all. The only solution was to do this damn thing as fast and as efficiently as possible.

"I have no ******** idea why you'd say that." he snarled in response to her comment about snakes. "Yeah I ******** hate snakes. I really ******** hate snakes okay. They are slithery and ******** poisonous and generally <******** horrible." He physically shuddered at the thought.

Her attempt at reassuring him with the mention of fear shields made him defensive all over again. "Well your fear shield might." he bristled "Mine is ********. I don't have a weapon and its not working right. So I'll just throw you in front of anything dangerous right? I'm sure you can handle it, and if you can't, at least it'll probably eat you first and free me from this ******** bracelet."

Stress tended to make him even more abrasive than usual and as he followed after her he eyed the vine she pushed aside as if it might spring to life and bite him in the face. He didn't thank her though, because in his small narrow world, you didn't thank women, their purpose was to do menial tasks for your manly benefit. For the most part.

"How far do you even think we have to go?"

Overall, Petra replied pretty passively to his outburst, watching him shiver as if there was a snake slithering along his spine right at that moment. Part of her, the analytically-inclined part which had ultimately lead to her transfer to Death Division in the first place, was itching to ask him why. This impulse was stayed only by his unusually harsh reaction, although with his liberal use of the word '********' in general, it was hard to say to just what extent this hatred spread from his general attitude (she was willing to assume his hatred of snakes was pretty extensive, despite his general unpleasantness.) Instead, she merely gave him a mildly curious look, one which spanned into his explanation of his FEAR shield and weapon troubles, her head cocking thoughtfully to one side.

"Your weapon is malfunctioning?"

Ignoring his comments on his own self-preservation, Petra grunted a little as she tripped over a tree root, stumbling a little before catching herself. Unfortunately, it was Rep's arm which she happened to catch herself on. Flickering her eyes down to the well-muscled forearm, the pale-haired girl jerked her hand off his skin as if it had burned her, suddenly positioning herself a good step away from him, placing at least one arms length between them. He didn't seem to like her much, and she would be damned if she gave him any inclination that she was searching for this to change. Diplomacy was not her strong suit. Grabbing a fistful of spiderweb just as she managed to walk through it, the death trainee rumbled what sounded suspiciously like a curse under her breath, answering his last question with a decidedly disgruntled undertone.

"Until Killzone is satisfied."

Which could be until they found a goddamn unicorn for all she knew, but Petra kept that part to herself.

"No." he grunted "It's not."

He held up the cuffed wrist for fleeting inspection.

"He's locked down because I exploded an old lady." It wasn't the whole story, it wasn't even a succinct summary of events, but he was in a dire mood. "It's why I'm even ******** here on this death march through the jungle. I'm trying to be a good little boy long enough for the immediate threat to pass. " His smirk was a devious one as he eyed the way ahead. "Just that long and then I can relax again. Go back to not having to kiss up to arseholes and tolerate people I can't ******** stand."

At the contact on his arm, the smirk vanished and Rep flinched. It was an instinctual act of revulsion, one deeply ingrained in him over the years. It was how he responded to anyone touching him - even accidentally - who was from outside his very small acceptable personal circle. "Don't ******** touch me." he snarled, rubbing the place where she'd leant on him as if she had some sort of contagious disease. "I know I'm hot property but taken, right?"

He let out an exasperated sigh as jungle gave way to more jungle, dragging his feet like a slighted teen.

"That could be for ******** ever." he snarled "Stuck in this jungle with a death bi-" He cut himself off suddenly.

"******** ITS A REAL ONE." his voice leap up several scales in the space of a sentence and in a flash he went from being about as far as it was possible to be from Petra while holding hands, to all but hiding behind her as much as he could get away with.

A small bemused tree snake gave them both a baffled lidless stare.

"KILL IT."

Rep held out his wrist, and she gave it a cursory look out of sheer politeness, clearly not all that interested in whatever it was which was on his wrist. Frankly, the device had no meaning to her; it could have been a hologram transmitter that covered up his horribly disfigured face for all she knew. Or cared, really. So while she glanced at it, Petra didn't glance at it for very long, her attention returning to the dense jungle around them. She'd completely lost sight of all the other trainees by this point, Killzone not even the most remote blip on her spiritual radar, the forest a thick miasma of thick humidity, a cacophony of sounds reverberating off the trees and underbrush, deafening in all directions. Pausing for a moment, she swiveled her head slowly in an arc, 180 degrees, as if searching for the slightest hint of the direction they were supposed to ********, if she had to start feeling this s**t, they would be lost in these goddamn woods forever.

It was actually only by sheer coincidence that Petra's attention returned to Rep just as he was ending his touching tale, her eyes settling on him a little disdainfully as the words 'kiss up' left his smirking lips. Unluckily for him, and both of them in this situation, the words provoked something deep down in the death trainee, a dislike so intense the likelihood of sabotage had just magnified exponentially. That same savage response she had given him initially was immediately rekindled, his own snarled response coaxing a loathing expression from the pale-haired girl, eyes flashing with an intense animosity. The urge to remind him that she herself was in fact married, happily so in fact, was so intense that the urge to physically assault him was momentarily circumvented so she could snap at him.

Except her rebuking would have to wait. Because then Rep was screaming, literally screaming, all hints of that macho exterior deteriorating into all the panic of a little girl. Jumping a little in surprise, for a second Petra forgot all about what she had been going to say, whirling around to face the potential threat with battle-ready determination, her hand already flying to the hollow of her throat where the silver pentagram charm hung. It was only after a good few seconds of searching, her eyes darting around to try to find the danger, did she realize what he was actually screaming about, her expression immediately falling to deadpan skepticism. ********. He was screaming about a little green tree-snake.

Exhaling heavily, she let her hand fall to her side, taking a step towards the tree. "It wasn't intentional, ********," she replied impassively, half-dragging him along, "Besides sweetie, you're not my type -- I prefer real men. Calm your girly b***h-a** down."

By this time, Petra had reached her free hand to quickly catch the harmless little snake. And although it tried very hard to get away, the death trainee grew up on a ranch, where she'd had to catch all sorts of little things both for fun and for work (wrangling baby chicks was harder than it looked,) and it was no match for her snake-catching skills. It was around then that she turned back to face the other hunter, death in her eyes, the hand with the snake outstretched towards him.

"Because I swear to god if you don't, you will regret it."

Is it any wonder you have no friends, Petra?

A favor? What kind of favor did he have in mind? "Sure, I'd be happy to-" He started, but his hand was pulled taunt once again. but this time instead of being pulled forwards he was being pulled by Jerry's hole body into the hole. Grunting he staggered backwards, grabbing hold of Jerry's arm with both hands as he pulled the Sun hunter out of the hole back onto solid ground.

"Are you alright?" Jason asked once Jerry was safe again, only to step back and trip over a log and fall backwards.

The redhead couldn't even look at first to see if Petra had killed the imminent snake threat, all he could do was haul back as far as his arm would allow, cowering down to almost sit at the furthest range from the death hunter and the reptile. He might have defended his masculinity, were they dealing with anything else, but as it was, he could think of nothing else till he saw the slithery assailant slain.

Images of a slow inevitable poisoned death raced through his head unbidden, no glorious death in battle, simply Here lies Rep - Killed by Zen. It was tragic, such a horrible loss to the world. He didn't want to die before his time and deprive the world of all the wonderful things he clearly still had to give.

When he did get the balls to look and see if his woman on a chain had managed to make herself useful and killed off the snake, his blood ran cold and once again all logic completely fled in the face of very primal terror. He outright scrabbled at the forest floor as he tried to get away from it, feet slipping on loose leaves as he fell on his a**, shielding himself from scaly green death.

"Ohgodohgod get 'at the <********> away fae me ya crazy ********' cow!" He demanded, his accent reverting to almost incomprehensible levels, talking a mile a minute as he went through anger and threats.

"What if it ********' bites me?! Ah might die. Don't ******** around like that! I'm nae good as a ********' jungle partner if ah'm dead right? Right? Aye I'm jist terrible it walkin' if ah'm dyin' a slow ********' death." followed by reasoning.

"Ah regret it Ah regret it!" and finally followed by flat out submission "I'll dae whitever ye want man, jist get it the ******** awae fae me, please."

"Ah... ah, th-thanks," Jerry gasped as he scrambled up out of the hole before peering back down.

Yeah, those gnarled wooden spikes would have been less than pleasant, "We should ah... try to keep up!" He managed with a weak smile, trying to shuffle to his feet.

Ami ducked under the branch- well no, she walked under it. Being short had its perks! Lots of them, apparently. They'd reached a lull in the path, and Rin made a very pleasant attempt to make friends.

"Name's Ami," she introduced, "Life division. I like reading and long walks on the beach." She rolled her eyes. "In cast you haven't noticed, I don't have plans to get touchy feely with strangers." She was clearly establishing her point that there was no way on this planet you could make her talk about herself or feelings. Do you hear that Killzone? NO WAY.

Oh yeah, she was screwed.

An arrow whizzed past her, just barely missing her nose and Ami's eyes went wide. "Run!" Internally, she was shaking a fist and screaming at a certain hunter with a crossbow.

Rin chuckled at the woman very softly, "Oh, I know that which at least was not sarcastic. We took our promotion together -- next time I am definitely requesting anyone but Allan to oversee mine. He means well... but... well... -," run?!

She was violently jerked along by her hand and... well, wasn't completely fast enough to miss several arrows, most of which bounced off her fear shield but one or two managed to lightly graze her. Barely enough to even draw blood, let alone draw attention so she kept on running as fast as she could, nearly steering them straight into a pit of snakes, they must be in deep now.

He yelped when he saw what she was flicking. The baggy jacket gave spiders plenty of places to hide. Creepy crawlies. He didn't have too much of a problem with the things by themselves, but lately... By the time he was mostly satisfied he didn't have any spiders inside him, he'd lost any trace of sound from the others.

He proceeded with slow deliberation around the shredded spiderweb, finally addressing Sasha.

"I'd like to live somewhere that wishes and wants would give Rep a set of daggers. Shitty old world, isn't it."

He kicked a branch out of their path, and changed the subject with zero subtletly.

"So. You and Jerry, huh?"

Ami didn't even see the snake pit coming. She was more concerned with outrunning the arrows, so when the gap in the ground opened up in front of her, she was completely blind sided.

They say that to this day, you can still hear Ami shriek in that area because she SCREAMED SO ******** LOUDLY. Ami hated bugs, snakes, spiders- all of it. They were gross in every way possible, and she was now nestled in a pit of them thanks to Rin.

Yeahhhh, the whole friendship thing wasn't working out very well. "

"Just calllllm down, Ami," Rin tried to soothe the other woman as she carefully tip toed to the side of the pit and pressed her one free hand against the wall, "Freaking out will just make them aggressive, I'm sure."

She looked straight up. It wasn't too deep. She resolutely set her jaw before stating rather simply, "Climb me," it wasn't a question. It was about the only hope they had to get out of snake pit full of possibly highly venomous snakes, okay.

As Rep cowered before her, half screaming in an increasingly thick accent, she couldn't help but feel a tinge of sympathy for him. He was an a*****e, sure, there was no disputing that, but from what she'd seen he was a mostly harmless a*****e. Well... actually, she wasn't quite so sure about that. Petra had never heard of a single instance where a hunter had gotten his weapon revoked, the death trainee seeming to recall hearing him mention something about an old lady... But for the most part, she was convinced he was just a male chauvinist a*****e who was insecure about himself and therefore had to assert his dominance over someone smaller and (in his frail, pathetic, delusional little mind) weaker than himself. For all his curses and idle threats, he wasn't particularly dangerous to her; her only real concern with him at all was that he somehow managed to say just the right thing to get up under her skin.

And yet, despite the sad little pleas, Petra remained absolute as she stood watching him scramble to get away. Because she was a firm believer that assholes needed a good kick in the teeth sometimes. Robert included -- why did anyone think he was such a good husband?**

Taking a few steps towards the man, the death trainee gave him a distant, standoffish sort of stare which conveyed all the threats she had no interest in voicing. Rep might have thought that after getting his weapon back, he would be in the clear, but there was a very real lesson in the eyes of that snake; be careful who you piss off, because they might come back to chase you through the jungle with a snake. Which, incidentally, was exactly what she planned on doing.

"Move."

As Petra moved towards him, he immediately picked up the slack, hardly able to even look at the snake she was holding. "Awright AWRIGHT." he yelped, fighting back the convulsive urge to shudder. There was no logic, merely instinctual reaction.

In response to her statement,Rep moved. Oh he moved alright. He moved like the hounds of hell were after them, which in a sense they were, snakes were way ******** worse than any hell dogs. He'd fought hell dogs and come out intact.

Also, apparently he could run pretty fast when his life was in danger, and didn't seem prepared to stop either as long as the snake was there. If it was possible to drag her, he was going to, wether he lost his arm in the process or not. At the very least this state of abject terror meant that whatever slow pace had been going on before was picked up immensely, caution no longer mattered, only fleeing like ginger lightning through the jungle.
