Loric quickly gathered his assignment materials and proceeded to the front of the class where he presented them to the instructor, "I finished mine Yoshi-Sensei" he said bluntly while awaiting his final grade. As far as he could tell he had done everything correctly, he had even managed to do so with little to no failure. All around him the rest of his classmates were having various degrees of luck with the assignment. "Do we have any assignments to take home?" he questioned casually.

Shiro let out a quiet 'woohoo' at her fourth success today was a good day after all, maybe after class she would celebrate with a meat bun! She was excited at that premise now, she really wanted a meat bun, she lightly licked her lips as she found herself thinking more about her food than the rope tying. Finally she set aside that knot and picked up another length of rope quickly as she heard the grumpy sensei say that class was almost done, she went wide eyed and realized she needed to finish up soon! She flipped the pages a few more times, hangmans knot. A long sly grin came across her features, what better knot to finish on? She whipped the rope around with deft hands as she followed the instructions from light glances at the pages of the book. She pulled and twisted and dropped the loop out the bottom before spinning the rope up along the length of the loop. This rope while fairly simple had to hold exceptionally strong considering what its purpose was. She turned the page and read some more before slipping the rope up through the series of twists and pulling tight on the rope. The rope made a creak sound as it cinched down tight she was certain this knot was a success as well, however the entire thing came apart and she let out a long discontented sigh, so much for today being a lucky day. She let out a growl and pushed the mess of rope and knots aside. ((260 words)) Quote: 50 + 25 + [(15 + 5) - 10]/10 = 76 result : 96 fail attempts : 5/5 Success : 4 Fails : 1

As Kuro pushed on the scrolls, all that ended up happening was that the rope tightened itself around them. This is exactly what he was hoping for, and his face showed this as a grin crawled across his lips. The grin then quickly retreated as it was now time to finish with the knots, which meant getting his scrolls out of the bundle it was in. Like every other time, the knot made the group really tight which forced him to take the middle scroll out of the bundle to be able to untie this knot. He was about to untie it, when Shen-Sensei started to speak. Class was ending soon and they needed to hand in a knot for inspection. This was perfect since his knot was still in tack, so instead of untying it all Kuro did was pull the ends of the rope to tighten it as much as he could. Placing his scrolls in his backpack, Kuro stood up with pack in one hand and rope in the other. Walking over to Yoshi-Sensei he noticed that he wasn't the only person done. "Um... I'm also done with the knots." With that he placed the rope down on his desk and waited on his response.

Sanyo got the go to bring up her work to the sensei. She gathered up the knots she’d done and brought them forward for inspection waiting patiently in line for her turn to see if she succeeded or failed, she felt pretty good about her work and she hoped her sore hands were worth it. Looking around she looked at some of the other students and their handy work. She wasn’t sure if her’s were right or theirs but she’d be find out soon enough. She fidgeted a bit rubbing at her hands for comfort as she waited judgment day. When she reached the front she presented her work to the sensei, “are these good Yoshi-Sensei-Sama?” she questioned nervously hoping to do well enough on her first day. Hattori felt the firm hand of his sensei direct him into the classroom. Once he was inside, the student slipped from his grasp. A quick look around the classroom keyed him in to the assignment. Students were reading books on knots, making knots, and turning in knots. On a nearby empty desk was a book about tying knots, and nearby was a few spare ropes.
Hattori shrugged, then collected the required supplies for the day's exercise: One booklet and a handful of ropes. Easy enough, the boy thought, as he sat down at his desk. He flipped open the book and scanned the list of chapters on the all-important subject. Where to begin. Not with the introduction, for sure, but the first chapter would probably be the best place to start.

Chapter one was a breeze. Granny knots and Square knots are simple to understand. I think I need to step it up a notch. I think I'll just skim chapter two, and pay extra attention to the diagrams. How much can they write about trying rope, after all. Chapter two seemed simple enough. After that, he continued to do the same for the third and fourth chapters.

Hattori closed the book. To himself, he mumbled, "This stuff is simple. I should get started." Hattori flipped the book back to the first page of the first chapter, so he could see the knots as he tied them, I better get it done quickly though- I got a good feeling that sensei would like to see me here all night just because I was a little bit late. He seems like the high-on-his-own-rank type.

Shiro was obviously a bit irate with her last knot, the one she especially wanted to work out, failed. However she scooped up the knots and the book and walked over to the grump a** sensei. She put the rope on the table and the book ontop of it. "I finished tying the ropes on time." she states with a grin that was tinted by her last fail, and her distaste for the sensei.

Jynn grinned as he barreled his way through town, making the final stretch to school. He flew over the steps, taking them three at a time. The boy almost ran into a few other kids, dancing around them and still moving forward. He had a quick thought as to why they weren't in class, but let it slide. He wasn't one that could point fingers at truancy. After all he was about.... Jynn glanced at the clock posted right outside the school. Scratch that, he was really late. He kicked up the pace, flitting between other children. Jynn grabbed the door to Classroom 5A and swung it open as fast as possible. "I'm here!" He exclaimed. He opened his eyes, and he could suddenly feel the weight of every kids' eyes on him. He visibly shrunk as he stood in the door frame, his face burning red. "I-I mean. Sorry I'm late." he said, more quietly, with added bow to the class.

Yoshinaga took the ropes and inspected them all one by one, storing each one into a drawer in his desk that held several others. Finally done, he nodded and granted them with a small smile, "Very good job, I'm proud of each and every one of you. You are all free too leave." He said, giving a smallest of winks to Miyuki before standing up and walking to the middle desk to look at the remaining students.
"For the exception Radagon, who may leave as soon as he's finished so long as he completes the task correctly. You are all to stay here for detention for being late." The words were sharp and cold, his eyes unreceptive as he switched from one student to the next to see their facial responses, "Shiro may leave solely for the fact of completing the task almost flawlessly in the shortest of time. However for the rest of you, you are to stay here and tie knots for the rest of the evening as punishment for your tardiness. I will not accept half baked excuses, I don't care if you burned your bloody house down, you will be attentive to my class. End of story. Now begin." Leaving the class to sulk and continue their work in silence, he returned to his desk and retrieved himself a small novel to read.

"Ok. I gotta make sure I get this right. I can't fail my first lesson."Hizen collected his supplies from the instructor's desk and headed to his seat to get at least some practice in before the class period ended. "Ok, so, knots. How hard can it be?" Hizen cracked the book open to the appropriate chapter and began trying to read it all as quickly as he could. As he was reading, Hizen began working the rope in his hands, following the book's instructions to make sure it was supple enough to form the complex knots, but firm enough to not be easily breakable.
The book listed at least fifty different types of knots that could be useful in various kinds of situations. "I'll never have time to learn all of these. I need to pick one to make sure I can tie well enough to at least pass this class. And, of course, time is against me."

Hizen quickly scanned the list, passing up the ornamental and nautical knots. He briefly considered the handcuff knot since it could be used to secure a prisoner, but ultimately settled on the bowline knot, since it was very versatile and looked easy to tie.

“Ok. Here’s the rabbit hole. The rabbit comes out of the hole, circles around the tree, and hops back into its hole. I can do this.” Hizen grabbed one of the metal rings included in the rope kit and began trying to tie the knot. Following the step by step instructions seemed easy at first, but Hizen discovered that he wasn't nearly an expert in this subject, nor was the rope as cooperative as he would have liked, slipping through his fingers despite his efforts at containing it. The first couple of his attempts didn't even tie around the ring and when he pulled the ends, the knot collapsed in upon itself and unraveling.
"Ok, slow down. I know this is frustrating for you and you have to do this for the rest of the evening, but if you keep screwing up, you won't get any credit. You need to take a deep breath and concentrate on this next attempt. Carefully..."

Hizen took the two ends of the rope into his hands. Carefully forming the central loop, Hizen threaded the rope through the metal ring before carefully threaded the right end of the rope through, back around the left strand, and, finally, back through the central loop.

Hattori's head sunk. Just as he began to tie his first knot, the teacher called the attention of the class. At first, he spoke proud words, aimed directly at the class that had already finished their knot tying exercise. Everyone who showed up on time was allowed to leave. Even Radagon, an odd green-haired guy who couldn't seem to get his knot right, could leave as soon as he finished. Shiro, the girl who was his late-for-classmate, was allowed to leave because she finished the exercise flawlessly.
As for the rest- Hattori and the other late girl- they had to stay extra time for detention. The sensei would accept no excuses- the school could be on fire, the world could be ending, and the town could be under attack and even then, they wouldn't be able to escape the torture of tying knots.

Hattori grabbed his first rope. He looked over the diagram in the book for the knot he was going to attempt. The first knot was a square knot! Hattori knew that in order to tie a square knot properly, he had to alternate the direction of his loop. Simple, simple, simple… He weaved the rope around itself and pulled the two sides straight.

Hattori smiled, in his hands now was a square-shaped knot. One knot down, a bunch more to go.

Mai nodded as she listened to the teacher telling her to move on, and do the class work, she was still a bit shy from what had happened, she took another couple of deep breaths as she looked around the room, she was debating following the other girl with her that had been late. In the end she decide to following the fox eared girl, and just kinda copied her lead, looking around the room she noticed that, everyone had a text book and some robe, taking a seat near-by the fox eared girl and grabbing a robe and the text book. With a quick look at the title of the book, and the little robe that she had picked up with it, she got an idea of what to do for the class, but she took a little bit of time to look around the room, to get an idea of what to do. With a quick look she noted that everyone in the class was trying to tie knots, some people have seemed to have manage to finish and seemed to be talking to one another. Mai looked down at the book and opened it and began reading it, she hoped that she was doing the right thing. As she looked at the first page of the book, she thought it over a little, the only knots she had used were the bunny ear knot that you use on shoes, and the simple one that you just one end of the robe though the robe. She looked at the book turning the first page, she learn the name of the knot she was thinking about, it was called an over hand knot. ”Hmm so it called a Overhand knot, I think the idea on this is to do more complex knots though” . She move onto the next page and read over how to use tie the new knot, she looked at the image on the page, it was something called a figure eight knot, it didn’t look to hard. It was just a really fancy over hand knot, so it should be pretty easy to get though. She looked at as the teacher spoke up again, she signed, she had been so late that she had only been able to read the first few pages of the book before it finished. Quote: Resisting Temptation :: 50 + [5(5) - 50]/10 :: 47% SuccessLoric was pleased that he received such praise on his first day of the academy. Although they had not done anything to exiting, it was still nice to know that he was starting out in the good graces of the instructor. From the way Yoshi-Sensei was reacting to their tardiness there was a heavy price to pay for being on his bad side. "Looks like were free to go Miyuki.. I'll wait for you outside ok...That is if you still wanted to hang out or what ever." as he finished speaking, Loric proceeded towards the door and made his way out. Although he was looking forward to having a friend, he could already tell that the Sensei had already set his claims on her. Rather than be caught in his line of fire, Loric figured it would be better if he refrained from warming up to her too much out in the open or at least while they where in his class, where their fate rested solely in his hands. As he strolled casually out of the class room Loric began to feel the erie vibe that called out to him mockingly. It started as light childlike laughter and quickly turned into a clinging pull that demanded his attention. Pausing momentarily, Loric scanned the area trying to figure out where the sound was coming from, but there was nothing.

“Thank you,”Quote: Resisting Temptation :: 50 + [5(5) - 50]/10 :: 47.5 > 47% :: Failure Miyuki bowed trying humbly to accept the sensei’s compliment before taking her leave of this awkward situation, “Yoshi-sensei.” Afterwards, Miyuki had taken her leave of the classroom while breathing a sigh of relief. She had noticed that Yoshi-sensei continued trying to flirt with her. She was lucky that he had quickly turned his attention to the failing students and those who had not arrived to class on time; otherwise, he probably would’ve noticed the girl rolling her eyes. While being a favored student had its perks, she did not quite enjoy having to openly expose such behavior during class. If she came to have interest in anyone else, that would put the girl in a difficult situation. The only way to fix this situation was to graduate the academy as soon as possible. While walking towards the exit of the building, Miyuki began to feel a dark presence come over her. She turned in circles for a few minutes while attempting to locate the origin of this feeling. In the background, she began to hear the menacing laughter of children, as well as long hallway appearing before her very eyes. Her heart began to beat heavily. Her palms began to sweat. Her body began to shake. The young girl could not fight the fear that began to overtake her body. Her entire body began to move and react of its own accord. Before she knew what had happened, Miyuki grabbed her head with both hands and started to shriek. The young girl ran as fast as her legs could possibly carry her until she reached the outside of the building.
