Wilson's words actually elicited a violent reaction from Cass who suddenly threw what she'd taken out of her bag to the floor in an angry huff. It hit the floor with a clatter and suddenly flashed on, spilling light across the floor and illuminating the area just barely - a flashlight.
"This is my mission god damn it!" she went right back into being hysterical. "Why is it when I ask for one thing it doesn't happen? One thing! I asked for one ******** thing and apparently what I ******** know about this sort of s**t means nothing because it didn't take long for my experience to be thrown out the window." She threw her arms up in the air and paced away a few steps and began to walk in circles.
The kids might have had a very good right to be scared of Cass, the way she was acting.

"Cass. Cassandra," Jordan said sharply. "Cut it out. It's your mission, so use that experience and give us advice instead of yelling. Mission. We couldn't leave the children upstairs alone in the hallway," he continued, gentling his tone, "and we couldn't be sure that yelling wouldn't catch the creature's attention. Dakota stayed upstairs to keep it from potentially following us down. Without further orders or experienced backup with us, we made the call we did."

"If it's my mission, then you should have let me make the call on who went upstairs." Cass snapped back. "We have phones Jordan." she pulled hers out. "It only takes a few seconds to beep one of us a 'Hey, I need you guys up here'. I would have answered that, you know."
She jabbed a thumb at her chest. "Eleven years, Jordan. I am the experienced one in this type of situation."

"You've never said anything about that to me," Jordan said, keeping his tone calm, "so I had no idea; you made no objection to my volunteering, so I assumed you were okay with it. I apologize for not listening to you. We need your experience. Please focus."

"Well, right now isn't the time to fight about it anyways. I just hope nothing happened before Wilson got up there." Her upper lip curled just slightly as she turned away, running both her hands through her hair and taking several deep breaths. Cass didn't exactly meditate, but oh man she had to focus on a happy place right then.

....What?

....
Nicodemus said nothing, but it almost felt like he was 'stroking' her brain to calm her, and within a few more minutes of deep breaths, Cass finally picked up her flashlight again and cautiously offered it to one of the two kids, putting on her best attempt at a smile, despite the strain of it.
"I'm sorry you had to watch that, sweetheart. He's right, I'm just really scared and I'm handling it badly." she said, "Did I scare you?" Calmcalmcalmcalm. Yeah, she was really stretching it now.

As Wilson passed them, the children shied away from him and clung tighter to Jordan's coat in tiny white-knuckled fists. One of them buried her face into said coat, the other chewing her lip. Eventually she too buried her face in Jordan's coat. "Not tellin'. Dun wanna get in trouble." When Cass threw the flashlight, however, the kids let out a frightened wail and let go of Jordan's coat to cling to each other, shivering and cowering behind the sun trainee. When Cass calmed down enough to address them, the two children looked at her for a moment. Then they made a break for it. Quote: Kids on the loose! Applies to: Cass and Jordan Looks like someone spooked the kids, and they're making a break for it! Roll like an attack, except a successful "hit" just means how fast your character is at grabbing them. ie, a roll that results in a damage of 1 means your character barely managed to grab ahold of them, whereas a damage of 14 means your character moved at the speed of light to snatch'em. One roll each, by the way~

Oh Bleepity bleep bleep. It seemed Cass was the master of scaring children in every which direction, and while Cass wasn't glad they were there, they were her responsibility (if only from a psychological standpoint) until her suspicion was either proven or disproven.
Cass shoved the still-on Flashlight into her bag before she moved after one of the scattered kids, wrapping her arms around their waist and hoisting them up in a somewhat awkward hold.
"Alllright chickadee. As fun as it is to run from Cassava-bear, this isn't a good time to be bolting, alright?"
Please don't actually be a ghost.
14 - 6 = 8 --> Average grab.

"Hey, hey," Jordan said, and dropped to one knee again, catching at the shy girl's hand as gently as he could. "It's okay, it really is. I just want to see you safe, I promise. We can't help if we don't know where you are."

The more talkative of the children gave an indignant squawk as Cass hoisted her up and off the ground, the child kicking with enough force to send one of her tiny slippers off of her feet. "Put me down! Put me DOWN!" She shrieked, beginning to twist within Cass' grip. The quieter child nearly slipped free from Jordan's grip before he tightened his hold on her fingers, stopping her. She looked up at him with tear-streaked eyes at him, then continued to look up. The child screamed and pulled away from him, tripping over herself to get away. She didn't fall to the ground. Instead something dark and shadowy caught her around her waist and began to hoist her up to the ceiling! Quote: Tentacle! Applies to: Cass and Jordan A thick, black tentacle of sorts is currently holding a screaming and kicking child captive above your heads! It jerks wildly about, swinging from side to side erratically. Hitting it is going to be a challenge, and not hitting the child will be an even greater one still. UPSTAIRS:The two trainees had made it into the room. They stood, side by side in front of something they couldn't see. Their weapons could detect the Fear the creature looming before them gave off. It was hard to see, even with the glow of their weapons. But not even the hulking shadow that made up the creature before them could hide the flash of yellow off to the left, nor the soft groan that broke the silence. If they were to turn around, the door could still be seen. In fact, the door was rapidly shrinking as the creature's Fear began to encircle them, faint tendrils of shadow reaching out to carefully touch them before withdrawing. Now is the time to act. What will they do?

The exact thought Cass had was 'shitshitshit fire ze laserz'.
No seriously, she was trying to hold onto the kid with one arm and fanangle a weapon with the other, frowning angrily as she did so. "Hold the still, sweetheart." she hissed a bit more angrily than she would have liked, tucking the blade of Nicodemus into the strap of her bag before she pointed the gun up above her head.
Wait for it...
wait for it.....
it was like hunting ducks. No rush... and...
BANG
That wasn't a bad hit, fortunately.

Dakota blinked as Chama warned him about the FEAR surrounding them. As a moon, the first thought was to set up a barrier for themselves. As much as he'd like to kick Wilson out to the dogs, he wasn't that type of guy and ******** this s**t." Was all Dakota managed as he Chama flared up, Stabbing the blade into the ground, the Phoenix blade flame circled up around Wilson, emitting a soft glow around the death hunter and then retreated to do the same for Dakota.
"I don't mess around with this s**t." Dakota narrowed his eyes, Chama agreeing with him. "Your protected for a little bit Wilson." he snarled. Man it just grated him that even after all these, he was still protecting the a*****e.

The child was looking past him, and every alarm bell in Jordan's head went off, but he wasn't quick enough to prevent the child from being scooped up by the thick black tentacle. He gritted his teeth on a curse and summoned Ferros.
The tentacle bobbed and weaved, and it was going to be ridiculously difficult to hit it without hitting the little girl, but not fighting it, not saving the kid, was out of the question. "I'll get you out," he called, trying not to sound as desperately worried as he felt. "Hold still; I don't want to hit you by mistake."
Wait for it, wait for it ... there, and Ferros grazed the side of the tentacle as it pulled the little girl upwards again.

It was times like these Wilson was glad he wore a gasmask. Dakota couldn’t see the pained expression on his face when he slightly turned his head away from the moon trainee. He pressed his lips together, silent. Instead, he kept his eyes focused on the darkness. Even the dim light of their weapons didn’t help much in locating the creature. There was a flash of yellow—a peculiar shade of green to him—and a groan. Wilson shifted slightly before his gaze swept across the room again. The door…!
He looked over toward Dakota. Thoughtful silence. Slowly, Wilson nodded his head. “Thanks.” He looked down at the tendrils and reached out to smack them with his cannons.

Cass didn't have to worry about the child on her shoulder anymore. Another tentacle had descended from the ceiling, wrapping itself around the flailing ankle before heaving up on it. Now there were not one, but two children screaming hysterically from the ceiling. Awesome. Quote: Same rules as before, feel free to attack up to three times! Meanwhile, upstairs...The shadowy tentacles of Fear were pushed back, away from the two hunters as the barrier went up. It was too dark to see them twist and writhe uselessly against the barrier. That is, unless one of them was looking at the door. Now there were far too many tentacles between them and the exit to even consider escaping. And even then the door disappeared quickly within the shadows. It was now impossible to mark what direction they were facing in, save for where they were relative to each other. The shadows began to beat against the shield, attempting to wear it down. Quote: Feel free to attack up to three times as well~

"Dammit!!" Cass had been trying to keep a hold of the child she was toting about, but unlike the party she'd come with, all she was equipped with was a rather short burst of anger and scrawny girl-arms.
She'd been trying to shoot the first tentacle again when the kid had been nabbed too, which had stolen her attention away just long enough for her to horribly miss it - but at least she didn't hit the kid... she hoped.
