There was a faint noise of metal on wood along with mumbling from the other side of the dressing room. Kaori still hadn't slipped the heels on but she was sure she didn't want to. The only easy part of the outfit was the necklace and even that proved trying. Eventually she called "Umm... I could use your help zipping now." On the bench of the dressing room lay a handful of knives in a pile along with the pile of old clothes and cloth.

Nixie came in and smiled faintly at the knife collection. She helped Kaori adjust the straps of the dress. Then she zipped her up and helped her into the shrug. "You look beautiful," she told her. And Kaori really did. Nixie retrieved a comb from her purse and quickly worked out a few tangles. "Now you just need your shoes, and we'll be ready for dinner. Let me get a bag from the clerk and you can put your clothes in that."

"I feel awkward" she said in reply. In truth she did feel like she was half naked. Which made sense seeing as she was. She looked down at the heels and frowned. After a short sigh she sat down next to her pile of familiar clothes and slipped the heels on. She sat there for a little while looking at her old attire. She picked up one of the knives and then set it back down after finding no where to put it. She rolled up her jeans and set them on her open hoodie. Then she set her knives and all her other pieces on it and rolled it up like a bag. She picked the little satchel up with her good paw, letting her injured one hang at her side. Standing up was a trick but after a little bit of trying to balance she opened the door of the dressing room and walked out.

Nixie paid the thankful salesperson for the dresses and accoutrements, and led Kaori back to the restaurant. The seating host showed them to their seats. Austin stood as the two ladies approached the table and his eyebrows shot up in amazement. "I didn't think it was possible," he muttered as he held out Nixie's chair for her to sit. "Anything is possible," Nixie smiled as she sat down. Austin also pulled out Kaori's chair for her. "You both look amazing."

Kaori gave a dissatisfied frown and a glare at Austin and was about to stick her tongue out at Nixie but refrained at the last moment. "Your chivalry is noted muscles but I can sit down by myself." Her steps were more steady than they had been at first but despite her previous statement she wasn't sure how to sit down without falling. She waved Austin away and tried to remember seeing how the rich ladies on the boulevard back home had done it. She scooped her dress and sat down a little hard but not completely disgracefully.

"Never said you couldn't," Austin muttered as he left the chair. A waiter came by and distributed some drinks, a beer for Austin, a dirty martini for Nixie, and a sparkling water and an apple martini for Kaori. "I didn't order that," Austin protested, pointing at the apple martini. "It's from the gentleman in the blue suit at the bar," the waiter replied, pointing. The man raised his glass at the table and winked at Kaori. "Your first time in a dress and already you have an admirer," Nixie teased gently.

Kaori sighed and looked away from him towards Austin "He's not an admirer." She said quietly. "He's a small arms dealer from New York. I don't know his real name but I know his face." She picked up the martini and looked into it then set it aside. "You can have this Nixie."

"Apple's not my flavor," Nixie replied dismissively as she ate the olive from her martini. "Is the drink code for anything?" Austin asked in a low voice. "Like a vintage 2-inch Howitzer?"

Kaori couldn't help but smile at Austin's remark. "I think it's code for 'you're cute'" she said and gave a short laugh. "Besides, I've never met him face to face before." She took a sip of the water and wrinkled her nose. The bubbles tickled and she wasn't used to it. Is this what rich people drink? she thought to herself as she inspected the glass.

"Watch it, sticky fingers," Austin warned. "An arms dealer doesn't buy a girl like you a drink for nothing." "Austin, your knowledge of weapons will never cease to amuse me," Nixie laughed. "And are you being suspicious or protective of our guest?" "Both," he grumbled into his beer.

"Well, at least one thing's for sure. He has the wrong impression of me." She looked at the appletini and rolled her eyes. "An Appletini really?" she said mockingly. "But, on the off chance you're right, it's a good thing that you're here." She raised her injured paw "There isn't much I could do to protect myself tonight. Not to mention it's really hard to hide knives in this." She said staring down at the black silky dress.

"You just have to be resourceful," Austin replied. "You could hide knife in a garter-sheath, a piano wire in a bracelet, a sedative in a ring or even lipstick, if you could stop biting your lips." "Stop sharing your black-ops secrets," Nixie teased. "You're going to give her dangerous ideas." "They're not secrets--watch any James Bond movie and you'll get a dozen more ideas," he defended himself.

"It's a nice enough idea" Kaori said and took another sip of her sparking water "but I'm no MI6 super spy." She looked around the table "Do you have a menu over there?"

"I ordered for us," Austin replied. "Steak for me, roast chicken for you, and fish for Miss Prince-Hughes." "You know what I like," Nixie murmured as she sipped her martini. Almost on cue, a waiter brought the masterfully cooked and artfully presented meals. Nixie smiled, her eyes closed in utter bliss, as she inhaled the aroma of the barely seared Atlantic salmon. Austin also grinned when a large slab of meat was placed in front of him. Nixie held up her martini towards the middle of the table. "To serendipity, and French chefs."

Kaori lifted her glass to Nixies and then set it back down with her gaze fixated on the chicken in front of her. "I guess there could be some joke about the fox in the hen house but I'll refrain." Kaori said in a light manner. She waited for everyone else to start eating before she started.
