Deryk was trying hard to not check his scanner so often. This was partially because he could hear the beeps of fellow trainees doing it. Maybe it was just his imagination, but he could swear the signals were getting stronger the further they were going. It didn't help that he caught Marcus's words about being screwed.
Maybe.. it won't be so bad. And their fear scanners were just going out of whack.
Of course, the last time someone thought that, he ended up with the titan right under his feet. So he shoved that thought aside quickly and kept moving on with the supplies.

"Other than dying? Well. Maybe some horrible brutal injuries, icebergs exploding, penguin massacres." he smirked. It was a bizarre feeling, simultaneously dreading the things to come and simultaneously not giving a s**t. He let his gaze drift a bit even as he thought about it, settling on specific people amongst the crowd before glancing back to her.
"And nah man, I ******** doubt you could eat this thing we are going to fight. Eating those ******** monsters would probably kill you. Besides, it'd be like cannibalism a bit. We have them in our heads, killing them is fine though."

"Is there anythin' special ya wanna have done wit' yer body if ya happen ta die here? Ah mean, that goes ta say tellin' me an' Ah survive so Ah can get it done, but do ya have any wishes?" Ofelia's tone was dead serious and she looked at Rep as though she was more concerned than actually curious. Death was invitable for all of them, the pain in her chest and the limping of many of her fellows a clear sign. This Dr. H person didn't seem to care if people lived or died, seeing as he sounded like he'd been through Hell before and therefore was cocky, but the teen had her own nerves and her own reasons. "When Ah die an' ya happen ta make it back, wit' mah body or sommin', can Ah ask ya ta burn me? Ah don' wanna be trapped in the cold ground."
A faint smile, not a grin, spread over her lips as she looked to Rep, then back down at her FEAR scanner. The number was ridiculous, just what was going on? Where they...on top of it after all?

Another hour passes, the trainees had been checking their FEAR scanners on and off for some time, watching the FEAR levels rise to alarming highs. A large hole, roughly the size of a city block, appeared in the distance and the doctor took a moment to check his own scanner and nodded, "It's where we thought. Time to circle the wagons, try to space the harpoons an equal distance apart around the hole. We want a good portion of it sedated, but evenly, so as to avoid any tragic accidents, hm? Make sure you set the brakes on the sled once its in position."
He pulled his own sled forward until it was a good fifty yards from the hole. Checking the guns sights, the doctor set the sled's brakes and walked forward to inspect the hole. A massive fleshy cavern, filled with row upon row of teeth. It was one of the mouths. The doctor's habitual smile was long gone, replaced with a cold, almost reptilian emptiness as he gazed down into the toothy void and then back at the trainees moving to set up their guns. Seeing one sled a little too close, he opened his mouth speak when one strong, slender tentacle whipped out and caught at his ankle, dragging the leader off the edge.
With a silent snarl, Marie was summoned and lashing out, severing it's hold. A second tentacle wrapped around his waist, a third around Marie, the fourth caught his neck in a choking grip, the fifth, the sixth, the seventh...soon the doctor was hardly visible as they held him aloft and then abruptly dragged him down.
Those willing to check, would find themselves greeted with the sight of that massive, hungry mouth, the muscles of its flesh shifting and throbbing wetly below. No doctor in view. Thin tentacles emerge and snap toward those who get too close. And they're left with the question of What just happened? Followed quickly by What do we do now?

Seeing the large hole ahead, Deryk stopped in his tracks. There was little doubt that was where the monster might be hiding, and H only confirmed this as he told them to set up the harpoons. Shaking a bit, he nodded and went to go see if he could help out. Though, he paused as he saw the Doctor walking on towards the edge to check things out. He looked just in time to see a tentacle come up to drag the man over the edge.
"AAH!" he cried out while running towards the edge for a moment. It was too far into the pit for him to be able to reach any of the tentacles, so he had stopped running. His eyes widened as he couldn't help but watch as more tentacles wrapped around the division lead before dragging him down.
He didn't want to look. He did not. Want to look.
"G-guys...."
What were they supposed to do now? Did they keep up with the harpoon dealy?

Rep gave Ofie a frankly quite unnerved look. He'd never considered what happened to his body past death because for him there was no after death. As soon as he died it would mean an end to everything, it was hard to even wrap his mind around his body. So he just shrugged and gave her a sarcastic answer. "I think I'd want them to make me into diamonds. So I could stay ******** desirable forever."
He didn't know what to say to her about her body though. Hunters ended up in the hunter graveyard. He'd seen it. It wasn't his place to change that.
Finally though they seemed to arrive at the location, H taking his smug self up to give another instructional lecture. The guy was a smug b*****d but at least he gave the right details and didn't ******** off the way Caelius did. So harpoons around the hole. Okay.
And then he was ******** GONE.
Rep just stared. "Oh s**t."

The sight of the Life division head being dragged into that hole in the ice shocked Jordan into frozen silence for long moments. If the most powerful hunter here was gone, how the ******** did they expect to survive?
No. That wasn't a productive line of thought. Jordan clamped coldly down on the rising panic in his chest. Leave the artifact to him, Dr. H had said. If the artifact was inside the monster, it was entirely possible that the Doctor would have had to go inside the thing anyway. He took hold of the nearest sled, took a deep breath, and shouted, "Stick to the ******** plan! Get it sedated! If we don't, we're all dead!"
Then he hauled on the rope, pushing the spear cannon towards its assigned position.

They're only given a few minutes to react when the ground begins to shake and tremble below. To some this would be familiar, something experienced on the previous search missions, however nothing from those outings can compare to what emerges from the ice. Massive tentacles the size of tall buildings burst up and up and up to tower over the trainees, surrounding and trapping them. It only takes moments to realize their purpose as several begin lashing down, herding the trainees to the mouth. The OOC Wow your hunters are pretty ********.

" . . . well, what now." Ofelia's voice was calm despite the clear amount of OH s**t that was running through her mind at the moment. Rue was cackling like a whole flock of birds on a phone wire, her voice screeching and annoying in Ofelia's mind and ears. The sudden appearance of the creature, its sudden offering of FEAR into the air, was making the weapon delight herself in more ways than one. "Okay well, Ah'mma summon Rue on account'a tentacles. If another ones comes up Ah ain't gettin' drug down like H did."
Ofelia elbowed Rep to get his attention, her grey eye serious and the other one just...well, being a glass eye. She was clearly scared shitless even if her body wasn't moving and her voice was steady - though the elbowing to Rep had allowed her a bit of a tremble that ended when Rue appeared on her knuckles. a heavy wince graced her lips and she looked over at others who were just asking, and she motioned with one of her hands towards the weapon, as if trying to make a point. She was hoping Deryk was looking. "Man the harpoons but get yer weapon out too, let the people wit' the sleds handle it! Ya dun wanna go down like this, squids an' titans an' s**t ain't good fer no man!"
Of course her words meant JACK s**t as soon as the tentacles started coming out and ushering towards the massive maw that was totally just waiting to eat all of them. Ofelia's bravado could only support her ever so much but she kept her weapon out and her hands at the ready, prepared to punch the s**t out of anything that came her way. ******** the titan-thing, Ofelia wasn't going into a mouth unless it was of her own free will.

Sasha stood back, moving to assist the doctor as he set the sled brakes and checked the sights. As he walked forward to inspect the hole, Sasha brought up the harpoon instructions on her phone. They weren't the easiest thing for the young woman to read, but it didn't seem too much like rocket science. Humming softly to herself, she tucked away the phone and checked over the controls on the harpoons, peering at the doctor for a brief moment.
Except there wasn't a doctor anymore. Just.. lots and lots of tentacles, the reptilian hissing of his weapon slashing out and her own shrieking of utter terror as the coils of the tentacles obscured the doctor entirely. Soon, too soon, he was dragged down, down, down; in a panic the raven-haired trainee gave chase, tripping and scrambling to the edge - only to be greeted by a huge, gaping maw.
At least Jordan was there. If it hadn't been for him, Sasha would have remained frozen where she was - his sharp orders were exactly what she needed. Something to do, an order to follow.
Rising to her feet, Sasha ran back to the harpoon - get it sedated. Just like Jordan said.
Oh god, her hands didn't want to work -- and suddenly there were more tentacles. Pulling people down, down, down.

The OOC Can the trainees successfully use the harpoon guns to free themselves? Harpoon Mechanics: -The harpoons require 5 FULL charges to fire, full meaning your weapon would have been ready to use a charge attack at that point! You are still limited by your character's charge attacks (2 for trainee, 3 for intermediate) so one person cannot fully charge a harpoon by themselves! Attack the tentacles to gain charges! Each one has 1k HP so don't even bother trying to calculate boss HP. -After a harpoon gun is fully charged, someone needs to fire it by rolling 4 d100 (-100 for accuracy, YES YOU MISS IF UNDER 100!) -Harpoons can be fired more than once! -Once a harpoon hits, the tentacle is covered in glowing runes and drops, breaking more of the ice with it. Five of the tentacles need to be taken out to clear a wide enough path to escape through! KEEP TRACK OF WHICH HARPOON YOU'RE CHARGING AND HOW MANY CHARGES IT HAS AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR POST!Auto-Damage: The harder you hit the tentacle, the more it takes notice of you! Each massive tentacle is capable of shooting out ice spikes, as well as small, thin tentacles to smack you around. If your total roll is... 1-5 you get 3 auto-damage 6-10 you get 7 auto-damage 11-15 you get 11 auto damage 16-20 you get 15 auto damage Division Bonuses: Sun Division - trainees get 2 recoveries, intermediates get 3 (if your recovery hits, you only need take the auto damage of that roll) Moon Division - trainees can roll 1d12 to block one other hunter from damage, intermediates roll 1d20 Life Division - gets three heals! trainees can roll 1 d12 to heal one other hunter, intermediates roll 1d20 Death Division - trainees can subtract 2 from their auto damage, intermediates can subtract 3 Mist Division - trainees can pick the trainee bonus of one other division, intermediates can use intermediate bonus of one other division

"R-Right!"
Hearing Jordan and Ofelia orders, Deryk scrambled to help get the harpoons set up, summing Tooley out as well. However, the ground began to shake, causing him to lose his balance. And then they showed up. All the tentacles.
"AAAAAAAAAAH"
He quickly got back up and ran to the nearest harpoon, checking his cellphone frantically for the instruction manual.
"WEaresoSCREWEDMantodaySUCKS" he whined quickly to himself before realizing that the harpoons weren't charged up at all. After it was in position, he looked around before seeing one of the little tentacles snaking around.
He didn't want to try and draw too much attention to himself, he just sort of poked it with the tip of the hidden blade. That would be enough to help charge Tooley right? The tentacle didn't seem to like that too much and so it slapped him in turn.

Massive tentacles came erupting out of the ice, the rumbling shock as they broke through almost knocking Jordan off his feet. He gritted his teeth and summoned Ferros even as he caught his balance. "Moons, find a Sun to cover," he shouted. "Life on healing, stay alert guys, we have a better chance of getting out of this if we fight smart!"
He hoped his orders weren't going to get lost in the noise, weren't going to get ignored; if the battle dissolved into a chaotic mess, their chances of survival dropped significantly.
A thin, whippy tentacle lashed out at him, perhaps targeting the sound of his voice. He swung Ferros, hitting it hard. The lashing end of the tentacle was knocked away, but it was a length of muscle; it coiled back around to lash viciously across his chest, driving him back several steps.

Clerise stared down into the pit, waiting for pandemonium to break loose.
He was gone. The b*****d who was ineffable at worst, and pervy at best.
That ******** ate him. Her first instinct was to mobilize, to get the guns going, to--
But.
The last time she had called the shots had left her with a broken weapon and a broken Sun trainee in equal parts, with shadows in her dreams and--
Thank god. Thank the ******** universe for Jordan.
"Sure thing, Professor!" Clerise cried, inspecting the harpoon she and Madison had dragged along.
With a cackling laugh, the redhead twirled her new daggers, launching herself at a tentacle-- and dug them into one. It felt good to be dangerous again.
Then it fought back-- JESUS that STUNG.

Ofelia was more than glad to see someone listen to her and then was glad to see people running and moving about. Jordan's voice had been welcome relief as she stepped towards one of the tentacles, remembering the battle they had the first round. It would hit her, she would hit back, and overall things would be okay if she just managed to stay on her feet.
A few steps took her to the side of the beast and she struck it, the tips of Rue's blades barely piercing flesh. The end result was Rue getting a tiny taste of FEAR and Ofelia getting a whip against her back. It was less painful than the first one, or maybe she was just too numb from all the painkillers and bandages to really even notice what was going on.
Two more, she needed to hit two more times and make it count. The instructions on her phone were hastily read and she understood only a little bit about charging things. Rue was still cackling like a flock of seagulls.
