"Oh, so you're from the future too? Thank God I'm not the only one. The last date I was in was 2040. I was born in 2024 in my universe. So I'm sixteen." Carlie said with a smile. "Oh, also-- Welcome to Coast City, my hometown. Lived here all my life, but... It's so different for being just a few decades in the past."

May's head cocked slightly in surprise. "What're the odds? I'm seventeen, just by the by..." Upon being welcomed to the area, she looked off at the city again. "I can imagine..." May sighed and turned back to Carlie, smiling despite the fact that the other girl couldn't see it; force of habit. "Well... I don't see much point dwelling on it when there's shopping to be done, how 'bout you?" She put a hand on C.J.'s shoulder and kept eye-contact before looking for the city again. "Come on, I'm dying to get out of this thing..."

"Uh... hang on just a second..." she said, and then she raised her ring to her lips, paused, and then shrugged. "Ah, I'll tell them in a bit... C'mon, let's go! Ring, locate the nearest shopping mall."
Her ring went on autopilot and her feet left the ground as she flew away, moving where her ring was sensing the closest shopping mall was.

With wide eyes, May followed Carlie's trail for a few moments before shaking her head slowly. "Man... I gotta get one of those..." She took off into a sprint before raising her wrist and firing a string of web at the nearest light-post. Swinging forward, she loosed another, and another, keeping a rhythmic pace just about two yards behind the airborne Green Lantern. As she swung through Coast City, a strange thought popped into her head. 'If the time period is right... then maybe I could be swinging at the same time as dad... just on the other side of the country...' She smiled wide under her mask at the idea. Maybe she'd have to take a trip to the New York of this universe. Steadily, she followed after Carlie with anticipation and excitement welling in her chest.

Carlie looked and saw May behind her, and she grinned. "Too bad you can't fly! This race isn't even fair!" she joked, and the ring led her in-between several tall buildings, weaving her way around them. As this happened, Carlie, wrapped up in the feeling of flying like she often was, began to sing "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" by the Beatles, and as it turned out her voice wasn't half-bad. She wouldn't be getting onto American Idol, or course, but her voice certainly didn't grate on the ears.

A half-scoff, half-chuckle broke May's chain of thought at the taunt Carlie issued. "We'll just see who goes faster in the changing rooms and at the check-out, then!" She called forward, taking every turn needed to follow after the Lantern. She was starting to use the sides of the large buildings as her targets now, with the streets becoming more narrow.

Carlie grinned and stopped singing, looking back to see May stepping up the pace. "Heh, the benefits of having a ring that can change your outfit at will! I mean technically--" She took a sharp right turn. "--What you 'wear' will be made of energy, but it can copy the look of pretty much any outfit you can think of and make it fit for you!"
They continued for a few moments, before Carlie set down in front of Two-Mile Mall, which was still a thriving shopping center in Carlie's time. Carlie grinned at the familiar sight and recalled her GL suit with her ring, while she kept it on her finger. As this was the hometown of Hal Jordan, there was a lot of GL-themed merchandise around here and the rest of the US, so people would assume her ring was a convincing, but fake, replica.

"Have I mentioned that I--" May took the right turn like a champ, going right along with the motion of her web, and enjoying the weightlessness of her own form of flight. "Really want one of those?" She chuckled. Once Carlie had stopped, dropped to the ground, and suited-down for their shopping excursion, Mayday ended her stream of webbing and landed on the ground beside her on one knee, one foot, and one hand. She stood quickly and looked on at the mall with eagerness in her eyes. "This is gonna be fun... but, I've never really gone out in public with just..." She gestured with both hands down at the suit she wore. "This... normally I'd be alright with it, but... I guess it's not really my home-turf as it stands." After a short sigh and a shake of her head, May gave a single little jump before looking at Carlie again. "Ah well, let's go!" May took hold of Carlie's wrist lightly and pulled her for the entrance; keeping her grip weak enough so that the girl could break it off at any time and take the lead.

Carlie followed May into the mall, where her new friend wound up getting stared at by all sorts of people; not for the fact she was dressed as a hero, but because she was dressed as a hero none of them recognized. Nevertheless, Carlie took the lead and led May to the women's clothes and changing room.
Carol Ferris, Queen of the Zamarons and leader of the Star Sapphire Corps, returned from her "trip" to drop Inertia off at a random military base. She stopped in front of Coast City General Hospital and suited-down, walking into the place and looking for Carlie. She gave a description of her future daughter to one of the receptionists, who said that she had just walked out not even ten minutes ago. Once Carol recovered from this bit of news, she kindly thanked the receptionist, turned on her heel, and marched out of the hospital... And began to fly to Carlie's current location, being guided by the emotional tether she had made to Carlie via her Star Sapphire Ring. The Zamaron Queen was not amused...

The assortment of past clothes were almost too much for May. Almost. She quickly picked out a pair of white short-shorts, a green tank-top which was adorned with several rhinestones and symbols and a pair of white flip-flops. Slipping back into the changing rooms, she made quick work of escaping her suit and donning the new outfit. She had also grabbed a small, wicker-style clutch purse, which she used to store her costume once it was off. Her wallet had been stuffed down the chest of her outfit, and held enough cash to pay for the clothes, and maybe even something for Carlie. As she stepped out of the changing room, May put a hand on her hip in a very model-like fashion and smiled at Carlie. "Well? How do I look? Can I pull off retro, or can I?" Mayday chuckled. As she looked down at her outfit, she realized that she had neglected to remove her webshooters.
'Well... something still could happen... and they do look like new-age bracelets...' May shrugged and looked hopefully at Carlie for a reaction.

(( The continuing murders of Victor Zsasz; it's a wonder no one's bothered to look at any of the bodies ))
In a parking lot at the same mall that the furture heroines were at, and where Star Sapphire was inevitable headed, there were several cars. So many, in fact, that only the most broken and the most austentacious would stand out. So one car, in neither bad condition or of the most opulent of designs, would be a particular stand-out.
One car, though, in most other settings, would've stood out. The driver never got out of his car. He looked asleep at the wheel. Which would've been odd if anyone bothered to look deeper in the car to find a woman with her face in the man's lap.
However, should anyone decide to actually try to distract them, they wouldn't move. If someone were to open the door, they would find that the man's throat was slit, and the woman had been stabbed through the back of her neck, her long brunette hair hiding the wound.

Carlie looked over May's new look, and for a very brief moment was stunned. This chick was... attractive...
Again, she pushed that sort of thinking away and grinned. "Retro, like a boss." she said. Then her ring flashed twice, stopped, and flashed twice again. She frowned; something bad was going on... She moved to one of the changing rooms.
"Ring... What's going on?" she asked in a whisper.
"Two murders have taken place outside of Two-Mile Mall, in the parking lot. Proceed with caution."
Great... Work work work... she thought, and she hurried out and looked to May seriously.
"Something's up in the parking lot..."

May's wide grin ended shortly after Carlie entered her changing room. Her spider-sense was going insane with something just outside the mall. Not knowing the area like her own city, there was little she could do but wait. She was just about to inform Carlie of her feeling, but the girl spoke, telling her the exact thing she was just thinking. "I was getting the same idea..." May said grimly. "We need to see what it was..." She gave a nod and turned on her heel, already walking for the exit of the clothes store and knowing that Carlie would follow. Mayday hadn't even been in this universe two hours, and already something was up...

Carlie followed, and suited back up with a thought before following her ring to the car with the couple Zsasz had murdered. Carlie knocked on the car door cautiously. Nothing; the ring had said they were murdered, but Carlie still had to try, right? She cautiously opened the door, and shook the shoulder of the man who looked asleep; he slumped toward her and May, and Carlie's eyes widened and she gave a shocked gasp upon seeing his slit throat.
"s**t! s**t! s**t..." she whispered, and she looked around, pointing her ring everywhere except May in an attempt to be ready if she were going to get jumped by whoever killed this guy. She hadn't noticed the woman's wound at first, but as she took a second glance, she saw that her stirring of the dead man had caused the woman's corpse to move too, enough to make out a stab wound in the back of the neck.
She backed up and swallowed a lump in her throat, and had the urge to try and call 911... But she was so busy trying to convince herself to stay calm that she didn't try.

May could do nothing else but look on as the body dropped from the car. Her eyes were wide in terror at the sight of the wounds, and her jaw was tensed shut. Carlie's reaction was equally, if not more, tense than May's had been, so she tried to get a handle on the situation. "Who... you have any idea who could have done this?" She herself began looking around, but her spider-sense wasn't alerting her of much at the moment.
