With the newly crafted blade in hand, Shun walked up to the target before slashing it. It was a pretty light attack, as he was testing how it might hold up before attempting to strike harder. Last time he had done this, he could feel the thing crack when he had hit the target.
This time around, it seemed to be holding up alright.

Looking his knife over briefly, Shun soon struck the target once more. A part of him wondered if he needed to sharpen the blade a bit more. Then again, he may not have found the 'sweet' spot for making the most of his new weapon here.

Shun let out a breath, focusing on the wooden target while he gripped onto the obsidian knife. Then, after a moment went by, he slashed out quickly. A nice new gash had appeared in the wood where he had struck. Ah yes, this was much better.
A quick glance over the blade told him it was feeling a bit of wear already. Granted, it was doing better than his last knife. Something told him that a lot of these weren't really meant to last too long anyway.

Shun struck the target again, though he didn't hit it very hard this time around. It was a little more of a glancing blow than anything.

With another attack, Shun noticed that the handle was feeling a little loose at this point. He took a moment to examine it, wondering if there was a way he could repair the knife. The Reaper attempted to fix the leather binding in the hilt, but there was no real way of finding out if it helped at all until he actually attempted another strike.

When he felt he had done about all he could about the knife, Shun turned towards the target once more. He went ahead and attacked it, and it was at that point that the hilt snapped. Rebinding it hadn't helped after all. While he examined the pieces of his broken blade, he had to wonder how durable the weapons of the clansmen were. They had to be more sturdy than the things he was crafting. But even so, he had a feeling they had a fairly decent chance of breaking. Much moreso than a reaper weapon. But, in a time of need, something like this could be useful. That was, if straight up hand to hand combat wasn't all too viable either. Depending on the weapon, his own feet and fists might prove to be better suited for a fight. It wasn't odd to see a horsemen in the Crafter's Den at this time of day. While it was true that most horsemen had (lately) chosen instead to gather what materials they needed before retreating to their private lofts, there were still clansmen present. In fact, one in particular had stopped their work to watch Shun test his blade. She rested her chin onto the palm of her hand, watching with bemusement as the dagger broke under the strain of the exercise. With a shrug, the clanswoman turned back to her work.

Looking over the shards of his knife a few more times, Shun eventually realized that he had been watched by one of the residents of the island. Turning towards her, he quietly watched her in turn as she worked. After some thought, he made his way over by her, setting the broken bits of the stone knife. "Would you mind if I watched you work? The blades I've made don't last more than a handful of strikes. I figure there's something I'm doing wrong in the crafting process," he asked quietly. He did not wish to disturb the clanswoman, but this was something that he felt was worth learning a little more about if possible.

Herryk had the need for speed. The need for speed and .. he also really wanted to impress the horsewoman that Shun was speaking with. His classes had been going well, so maybe he would get a better ..grade? if he made an attempt to speak with the locals, to learn their craft.
Quickly reaching for a few strips of leather and some wood, Herryk wrapped the hilt in leather. By the time he was finished, he held something that looked kind of like a knife... if a knife was having a really, really bad day.
Herryk was really looking forward to showing off.

"I do not mind," the clanswoman returned, "But I fear today I am not making a... knife." She paused awkwardly, glancing at the broken shards that Shun set aside. She set her own work to her side before picking up the pieces that Shun made, rearranging them until the knife held its former shape. The clanswoman's eyes narrowed as she considered it. "You chose a good material and spent time, though perhaps more time on decorating it than on the part that really matters." She shook her head wryly, setting the pieces back where Shun had set them down. "Now, the question is... What do you think you are doing wrong?"

"Regardless of what is being made, I figure there's still some basics applied to it when working," Shun said before glancing to the side as Herryk came in. He couldn't see much of what the Draugr was doing, but it looked like he had slapped something together in a real hurry. The end result, from what he could tell was... ... Special. Furrowing his brow, he decide to not comment on the knife before turning his attention back to the horsewoman. "Perhaps I didn't bind the blade to the hilt well enough. I figure that is a fairly important step with crafting one of these... or with any weapon that has a blade for that matter."It had been the main area where the knife had broken too.

Upon hearing Shun's answer, the horsewoman looked at her work before giving a meaningful glance at the former knife. She didn't say anything as she picked up the strips of leather she was working with and re-wove them around her fingers. She continued to braid them around her fingers, manipulating the strips to form a sort of woven belt. Or the start of one, at least. "So you bound the blade to the hilt. What were the materials of both?" She inquired, "And how did you bind the two together?"

While the horsewoman worked with the leather, Shun quietly observed. It looked like she was working on some sort of belt right now. "Obsidian for the blade. Wood for the hilt. And I used some leather straps for wrapping," he explained before picking up the pieces. Rather than try to describe how he binded it, he just tried to recreate the process. It wasn't easy since the stone parts were broken, but he worked with what he had. He had basically wrapped it in a sort of crisscross type fashion. "I did something like this."

Entering
Calder returned to the crafting platform bent on creating a work of art. No stone. It seemed he failed when it came to trying to put anything on a slick stone, and instead he sat down and looked over with a bit of wary apprehension at Shun and a lingering horsemen. They all felt like supreme experts to him that anything he did felt as if it was being judged. Then again, they had been judged just to get here. Why stop now?
Wanting to impress, Calder reached out for a wooden handle and started to try and work on his knife. Seeing as Shun and Amrita were here and working, Calder tried to imitate their actions to make a reasonable weapon.
It didn't look the same in the end, and the kelpie looked from his creation to Shun, to Amrita, and then horsemen in confusion. Why did none of his knives look pretty?

Ooou, a horsewoman! Horseman? Horse...person? Whatever, someone from the War Clan! This one was helping interacting with Shun, how nice! She took a seat near the clanswoman, Shun, and of course beside Calder (Who was, whether he liked it or not, completely stuck with her for most of the trip), and settled in to listen to the pair talking about crafting. After a moment or two she was getting antsy and decided to busy herself instead, picking up the materials, playing with them to get a feel for them (and maybe a little blade-to-skin poking to try and remove the earlier imbedded bone fragment), and constructing something on a whim.
As she crafted, wove, embedded feathers and pinched her fingers in the wrappings, she somehow ended up with an Acceptably Pretty Seashell Knife ( of +8 ).
