The Living Force This entitlement complex is something up with I shall not put. A good number? I only saw a few get mad. Furthermore: why are you and other folks against Derpy, but had no problem with Snips and Snails? Not that many people watch the show in general. The brony community is largely white, cis-gendered, heterosexual, traditionally abled males. Snips and Snails portrayal is substantially different, and I've been hoping, to no avail obviously, that people could see a difference between two bunglers, a traditional comedy trope, and a wall-eyed, slow talking, hapless character who other characters treat with exasperation and demands that she go away. I don't suppose you've ever encountered a parent of a differently abled child talk down to them, tell them they're worthless, tell them to go sit down before they ruin something else? I don't guess you've ever encountered someone adopt a countenance similar to how Derpy was portrayed to mock a differently abled person? The only one who got frustrated with Derpy was Rainbow Dash, and she's impatient with EVERYONE. If you're gonna accuse Derpy of being a mockery of the disabled, I still argue that Snips and Snails are a lot worse. They have the low, slow voices, they're always saying something stupid, they make poor decisions and can't do anything right. Why is it they are simple comedic bumblers but Derpy is an offensive portrayal of the mentally ill?

It could have been a learning point, but it was not. That's all there was. It left on an incredibly horrible note, and it doesn't matter what the intent was, or any of that. It's how it came out. They don't talk slow. neutral And they are lacking in common sense. There's nothing to show that they're not smart. I'm incredibly intelligent and I do some stupid as hell s**t. They're not representative of a negative stereotype. Derpy's only speaking role was. I've argued this to death, I'm not changing your mind, nor you mine, so let's just quit it.

Maybe becuase snails wasn't as funny or awesome.
So he didn't look like someone to laugh at.
You know now that I think about it the whole show is about laughing at stupid people.
I mean, the funny parts are when something crazy/stupid happens, or both.
Huh.
Interesting development.

Retarded muggings tripled last week after a scene from My Little Ponies was released which inferred to younger children that anyone with a strange voice would be likely to destroy the whole village and city they lived in.
In an attempt to avert disaster, the young children, between the ages of 4-12, began rapidly beating anyone who had a strange voice.
"You know, at first I wasn't too sure about people with strange voices and of the damage they could cause. But after watching my little pony, why I knew we had to act quickly and decisively."
The young children, particularly 4-12 year girls who are generally large fans of the show, felt it was necessary to attack the so called perceived retarded individuals but not to kill them.
"We wanted them to feel unwelcome but we didn't want to kill them or anything. We just don't want them destroying our town."
Despite the fact that retarded people don't always have slow or otherwise strange voices, becuase the arbitrary connection was made by a few viewers on a Children's show this particular group of minorities does not look like it will have problems letting up any time soon. Many individuals may look to blame schools but we at this news station know, it was My Little Pony- may God have mercy on our souls.
Some have been overcome with rage, alienation, and guilt; many more have succumb to suicidal thoughts.
8-10 years after this event, over 500,000 individuals are still fighting, the My Little pony wars.

If you can't contribute anything besides flippant, immature remarks, than it might be better that you not contribute at all. Though, again, my part in this discussion is done, because this is really all I'm going to get and frankly, I don't have to deal with it.

Was the whole discussion of this thread that we shouldn't enjoy a character like Derpy because its making fun of mentally challenged individuals?

Mimetic Hybrid Was the whole discussion of this thread that we shouldn't enjoy a character like Derpy because its making fun of mentally challenged individuals? Actually I believe it started out as to whether or not Derpy was a stereotype. Which I argued against, as it has been stated by Hasbro and the animation team and voice actor that is was not their intent to portray her as such.

Effaced no, there is however a reasonable expectation of forgiveness or understanding, and an end to the controversy in general. Then of course there is the matter of her not being a stereotype unless she is in fact mentally handicapped, and your circular logic as to why you believe she is mentally handicapped. But like I said, staying out of it.

Perhaps some of the adult viewers are socially conscious enough to discern (though I really, really doubt it) but children definitely are not. And agreed, let's not start this again.

"Personally, I was saddened by this entire mess. Not only because Hasbro was pressured into changing a charming and absolutely lovable character who'd basically become the spokespony for the Brony fandom, but also because such a large portion of said fandom reacted so harshly against people who were proponents of the change, acting in direct contrast to the motto of love and tolerance. I don't think it was Apple's fault, as I've seen many bronies claiming, nor was it the fault of the people who railed against Derpy. If anything was to blame, I'd say it was the way society (American society, anyway) has been groomed to become easily insulted. In two words: Political Correctness. I've absolutely never despised anything more in my life than Political Correctness. It's one of the absolute worst societal norms that I've ever heard of in this modern day. And yet, I'm powerless to stop it..."
