Now this is what I'm talking about. Timothy braced himself while his hands entwined with each other. Transmutation of liquids. That's quite interesting.

He buckles against his seat then reach for his bag. "Now what do we have here?" Glancing at Ayu who's now currently quiet and blushing at the same time. Maybe because of the racket she had made earlier, Timothy just let her be alone with herself for a while. As for now, he needs to listen briefly to Professor Gray's discussion.

"If I act like everyone else..."

Gray chuckled quietly. "Well, I could tell you. But I think, my dear students, that it will be far more interesting for you to discover that for yourselves. Now. Unlike what popular culture would try to have you believe, there is more to alchemy than clapping your hands and making spears appear out of the ground. Chemicals and other components are required."

"Sometimes we take larger components like a chair and a cloth and some sticks, and transmute these into a one person flying machine, for example. Or some clay and some bones, and a bit of fire--and we get a false man. But boiled down to its simplest form, alchemy is about chemicals. And so what you will all see before you on your desks are chemicals I've chosen for this simple transmutation. Now, usually you'd have to experiment yourself to find the right measurements, but I've done the work for you today."

"Everything is all nicely measured and labeled. Something else you'll notice are the symbols carved into your table top. Most Alchemy symbols are circular in nature, but have other shapes imposed on them, or even letters and writing. They tend to stand for the material elements--earth, fire, air and water. But many of them also stand for elements you find on the periodic table. Or they are enchantments and spells."

"Different symbols, give you different results and the more magic you're using, as to outright chemistry, the more complex your symbols have to be."

"So, I want you all to get your components and start gradually mixing them together. Mix them very well--liquids first, then solids. In the order they're laid out. Screw up the order, and you might cause an explosion. Our base component is water, so you'll want to start with that." He grinned. "Once everyone has their components mixed, we'll get to the next step and actually transmute this."

"Alright" Timothy rolled his sleeves up.

Water would be their base component. He gently pours the exact amount of water on the metal bowl, then followed by the other liquids. Following the "Liquid first then solid follows" rule, mixing the said components in one direction. Now, he should be careful doing so, pulling off a hanky out from his pocket. He tied it neatly on his forehead just to prevent his sweats to drip over the solution. One drop of sweat may cause alteration of the finished product.

Satisfied, next his finger points out each and every label, making sure that he won't miss and overlook the powders. Timothy followed the instructions in order, then adds the solid compounds to the liquids, stirring gradually in one direction. Now, if this would result to an unexpected explosion, then... let it be! for all he cares!

Kamil moved over to Sethrian. Maybe he could try copying what Sethrian was doing. Picking out the same choices as Sethrian did, Kamil started carelessly pouring what looked like the same color as the liquid Sethrian chose. It was hard to pick which chemical was which when he picked a colorless liquid thoguh...

"Oh yeah, I made a Manliness Club today, Sethrian." Kamil said as he poured one chemical after another, trying to copy his friend. "I just thought that there must be other guys in the school that wants to be manly too. Like me and Veith. I signed Veith up without asking him because he's probably too shy to join by himself."


"And I was sure you'd be interested, so I signed you up to be vice president too!"

Sethrian paused and stared at Kamil. A...what? What on earth was a manliness clu---WHAT!?! Sethrian nearly choked. "You--what? Vice President?"

He managed to regain himself before he messed up his chemicals but he couldn't help the overwhelming sense of foreboding. "What....what is a 'manliness club?'" he hazarded in a slightly worried tone. Not that he had a repuation to worry about but this wasn't going to be good for it. At all.

He just could not see it ending well for him. Hopefully no one else in the class was paying attention to their conversation. He wasn't sure he wanted to be associated with this manliness club. The whole thing just sounded really suspect.

"Okay, now when you're finished mixing," Gray said. "I want you to move all the empty containers to the very top of your table, and make sure they are not touching the symbols. Place your bowl over the central circle and place your hands on the symbols on either side. For this sort of simple transmutation, all that's necessary is to try to focus your energy on changing the liquid. The chemicals and symbols will do the rest of the work."

"Now, if it doesn't explode--you'll know you've at least partially succeeded. You won't know if you fully succeeded until you taste what's in the bowl. And yes, you do have to taste it. Good luck.

It occurred to him that maybe they should have some safety goggles but...eh. Whatever.
