Personality: On the outside, Riptide presents as reserved and well put together. He is practical, resourceful, dependable, and ambitious. On first meeting, he can come across as quite the serious phony with his self assured attitude and assertive nature. The truth is, he's not as stoic as he seems. Much like the tide, his emotions have more power than he lets on; Riptide is a surprisingly passionate phony that isn't always sure how to keep his head above water. He can be a bit moody and unpredictable at times but he means well, always ready with a sincere apology when he goes too far. At his core, Riptide wants to help people and that's why he acts as a Lifeguard around the Lagoon of Phonyland. He's taken up the responsibility of keeping non-merphonies safe as well as making sure the mers aren't too infringed upon by land-dwelling folk. Most of the time he's in job-mode, which means he's alert and on guard -- this is the image most have of him and it's a hard one to shake because he takes the responsibility to heart. However, once he's clocked out, Riptide's ability to relax and socialize comes easily; jokes pour from him like a calm stream and his smiles are genuine. He bears no anxiety or self-consciousness when it comes to conversation, an honest phony who always says what he means and lets his actions speak louder than words. Rip is also a bit of a collector, particularly of seashells. He knows the benefits of delayed gratification and will take the time to invest himself in hobbies or new friends if he feels the effort is warranted. Quality over quantity is his motto. Riptide is never one to rush into things, preferring to take his time, but once he is able to immerse himself wholly into something there is nothing that can turn him away from it.

Purpose: The constellation of Capricorn is representative of two halves becoming whole, most distinctly two halves that are unrelated; land and sea. It could be said that Riptide's purpose is akin to compromise; he's a peacekeeper, whether that means negotiating agreements or putting himself in harm's way. At the end of the day, Riptide rests well knowing he has been able to help people.
Occupation: Riptide works as a lifeguard around Phonyland's lagoon area. Day or night, you can be sure he's aware of the goings on around the lagoon and he'll be doing his utmost to keep everyone enjoying its waters are as safe as can be. It's helpful that he lives right nearby, so you can always find him. He can be a bit silly about it when he's not "on", making a mockery of the work in ways not dissimilar to Baywatch. He's got the hair for it, he thinks he could make a decent Pamela Anderson.
Stable: He lives on the coast of the Lagoon in an underwater grotto that connects topside to a miniature working lighthouse. It is only miniature because it doesn't need to be as big as occupational lighthouses, he just has it because he likes it and sometimes makes neat shapes with the light or cuts the light all together to better see the stars across the lagoon. Its light can be seen at night by any phonies living near the lagoon, which is a wonderful treat if you like to communicate in Morse Code by lights or put out other cute secret messages.

He don't got any family he's aware of. He'd be really excited about found family members, though, that'd sure be neat.
