Though the tone of her last line would fill anyone with dread, it filled Pieces with surprise and joy - she might be violent, but was likely capable. The progress they'd made granted him an unspeakable delight, and he beamed at Rewind to beckon her on. "Yes, let's!"

Re-wind had been very, very, quiet, well-cowed by the scorn and fury of their new-found sister, and the kick she gave her owlcat made her flinch. But the unexpected consent surprised and - proving beyond doubt that she and Pieces, in the very least, were definitely related - delighted her. She did not quite dare to speak again yet, but she readily returned Pieces' smile.

He gave a friendly, reassuring bump against his sister's shoulder, and then straightened to lead the way. They were on the right path at last, and he was sure it wouldn't be long before the puzzle was complete.
