Another Sharpedo was released into the barrel! Such bad bad luck Jack was being given now. Ah well...perhaps he should quit while he was ahead? Then again...it's just apple bobbing...nothing too serious...He wondered if winning an apple bobbing contest was even cool...He knew it probably wasn't, but decided to keep going. What was better than making Aku happy? Hey...deja vu....didn't he use that last time to keep himself going...? Was the water making him lose his sanity...?

Eon This would be more tricky than the others had been, now that there were two carnivorous sharks in his barrel. Who decided on these things, seriously!? "Okay, it'll be okay..." he said, talking to himself in an effort to soothe his worry, staring intently at the two circling fins. He just needed something to let him get to the apples, a distraction of sorts. Anything that would keep them away from him long enough to get an apple. Eon's eyes brightened slightly as he thought of something, quickly ducking his head underwater and shaking it about slightly to create a disturbance. It was risky, because it would make it harder to get an apple too, but it might work. The Sharpedo both turned and headed for him, and at that moment he pulled his head back out and then down again to bite into the skin of another apple and pull it out, as fast as he could. The ploy worked beautifully and another of the fruits was added to his pile, he'd lost count by now, but they were starting to stack nicely. Apples: 7 Sharpedo: 2

The Sharpedo definitely had it out for him, and all attacked at the same time as he tried to go under. Their mouths rose out from the water clanking and chomping on air. That could have been his head! Aku rushed over and growled at the water, willing to join fight. Jack put an arm out and pushed Aku back,
"Calm it, Aku."
He was glad she got uppity instead of...downity, though.

Now the odds seemed to be more in his favor, Eon could practically taste it, that and a good deal of apple juice that had run down his cheeks. With a grin he stared down into the water and looked for the Sharpedo, finding them to be tussling with one another. Hmmm, maybe they'd run into each other when he'd distracted them? Whatever the case, Eon wasn't about to waste a good chance. He carefully inclined his neck and widened his jaws to grasp an apple, this time from the top of the water, just to be safe; the Sharpedo were fighting, but they were a little too close to the apple he had in mind to go underwater for it. The Pikachu precariously leaned back and his eyes widened as he almost dropped the apple, but luckily it stayed put just long enough to get over the basket before it fell. Grinning victoriously, he glanced at the fruit for a moment before turning back toward the barrel. Apples: 8 Sharpedo: 2

As soon as Jack put his head under, the Sharpedo attacked once more. What could he do? These Sharpedo were relentless! They wanted him dead...didn't they...? Oh gee...He looked over at Aku and shrugged. He didn't want to get his head chomped off, but he certainly wanted to win this contest.

By this time it was becoming almost second nature, this odd twist on the game. Eon knew to check for the Sharpedo, knew how to distract them for just enough time, knew how to get the apple and put it in the basket. It was a matter of timing, that was all. "Let's see what you've got," he said to the Sharpedo, ducking under the water's surface to see what he could see. They had stopped quarreling by now and were angrily waiting for their chance to strike him, when they saw it they took it but Eon was simply too quick for them. As they came he pulled his head out of the water, leaving their jaws to snap at nothing and giving him just enough time to bite into one of the apples that floated gently nearby and drop it into the basket. It seemed they were catching on though, because another fin soon rose to join the other two. The Pikachu sighed, just went to show what being over-confident did to you.Apples: 9 Sharpedo: 3

Again the Sharpedo just didn't even give Jack a chance! He could see them swirling the surface, moving apples around quickly and consistently. Putting his head under would surely be the end of his life, and he was sure they had peed now. Now that he was getting kind of nervous, he was certainly more parched. Who wanted to bob for apples in a barrel of pee?

Eon Eon surveyed the surface of his bucket with concern, watching the Sharpedo circle. Arceus, that was menacing, why did they have to do that? He shook his head, stopping before he could work himself into a panic. No, concentration, he needed to concentrate. As he watched, the fins began to circle closer and closer, and suddenly they weren't circling at all, they were practically on top of each other. No, it couldn't be, dare he think himself so lucky? Eon poked his head underwater and found to his surprise and delight that the Sharpedo were fighting, unprovoked, amongst themselves. What a stroke of luck! Apparently Sharpedo did not play nicely together. With a smile, Eon managed to procure not just one, but two apples without the fighting Pokemon noticing. The HamHam took the risk, and rammed his head beneath the water, mouth open. He was hoping to snatch an apple before the Sharpedo could turn, but oh was he wrong. They turned on a dime and leaped for him, one nearly leaping right out of the barrel, but Aku round house kicked it back down. One got a nice bite to the face though, and Jack raised a paw to his face. It had only been a pinch really.
"Wimp, I could do better than that!"
Jack snarled and grumbled, and Aku figured he'd look a lot cooler if he wasn't currently costumed as a HamHam.
( There's no happy medium, either you're really lucky, or not at all. ANOTHER 4? D; )

As with all lucky breaks, this one was bound to end. And so it did, quite abruptly. Eon had stuck his head underwater for what felt like the thousandth time (though it was more like the 15th) and suddenly he realized that it felt eerily stable. Before, when he'd gotten the other two, the water had been churning so much that it had been hard to get the apples but now it was calm. That could mean one thing and one thing only; nervously, Eon turned his head toward where the Sharpedo had been and-SNAP! The sound was so close to the Pikachu's ear that it rung for a moment even after he'd pulled himself totally out of the water. His breath came in quick gasps, a fearful look in his eyes; just a little closer and his ear might have been dislocated from the rest of his body. Shivering at the thought, Eon waited a good long moment before even thinking about going back near the barrel.Apples: 11 Sharpedo: 3

Jack went back under, sick of missing and sick of the Sharpedo plotting evilly against him, and brought up an apple. He proudly placed it with the rest, glad he hadn't completely lost it yet, and happy to finally break 20 apples! Aku cheered and Jack's heart raced.

Eon As Eon continued to recover from his scare, the Pikachu's mind was churning faster than he would have thought possible upon first signing up for this contest. It was a little absurd, even he found it to be so, just how much he was getting into this. Still that didn't stop him from formulating an idea, another way to keep the Sharpedo away, another apple to be won. He stared down at the troubled water and then proceeded to duck his head down in the direction of an apple. Instantly three fins which had begun to circle made a beeline for the apple that Eon was after and once they were just close enough, the Pikachu altered his path, pulling back and biting an apple nearby. The feint worked like a charm, the Sharpedo having not been expecting it in the slightest, and another apple was added to the Electric Type's basket, a grin on his face.Apples: 12 Sharpedo: 3

With Aku cheering him on again, Jack was able to outwit the Sharpedo, and nab two apples. When he came back to the top with two apples, Aku didn't even give him a chance to put them in the pile before wrapping her arms around him, giving him a nice little hug. Jack gave her a one arm hug, cause that's the cool thing to do. She quickly let go and did a little jig, and Jack deposited his two apples to the pile. She was just so happy his head hadn't gotten eaten off, and he had even nabbed two apples! It made up for some of his rounds with no apples.

Eon Pleased by his most recent success, Eon felt that he might be able to pull off the trick again. The Sharpedo had proven themselves to be rather unintelligent after all, so it had a fair chance of working or so he thought. In his false sense of security, the Pikachu didn't pay as close of attention as he should have and feinted toward the same apple he had last time, hovering over it and getting no response. Huh, that was odd, normally they'd be after him by now. Shrugging it off, Eon closed the gap between his teeth and the apple, about to bite down on it when a mouth fully of painfully sharp teeth closed right before his eyes, enclosing the apple in their jaws. Eon pulled back violently, scarcely avoiding a few extra snaps at him from the other Sharpedo. Needless to say, Eon found himself very grateful that he hadn't ended up like that apple.Apples: 12 Sharpedo: 3
