Gritting his teeth, Jericho had to force his eyes to stay shut. He couldn't help but feel that he was way off course, but he couldn't check just yet. It wasn't until Riley spoke, that he took in a deep breath, nodding to himself in the process.

Carefully, he lowered them. There was no telling where the ground was, if there even was one.

And for a moment, he thought that their efforts were in vain. But just as he was about to give up on it, his feet hit the dirt. The dragon stumbled a bit but he manged to keep a firm hold on Riley.

"..We landed"

Breathing a little heavily, he chanced to open his eyes now.

Riley felt the bump of landing, and let out the breath she didn't realize she had been holding. She kept her eyes closed, just in case, but knew they had to take a look. What do you see? She asked, letting him be the eyes for both of them now.

Jericho didn't answer right away, as he wasn't sure if he was seeing things again. After a few beats, he let out a breath, sounding slightly relieved. He wasn't completely relieved because, quiet frankly... the area inside and around the mountain could be considerably worse than the one they were at right now. However, it was good to know they were so close to their destination. It was only a matter of time before they find what they were after... or fail miserably trying.

"The mountain. It's up ahead. We're almost there," he said quietly, "Go ahead and open your eyes."

I.. don't want to. Her eyes just tightened, staying shut. Just, uh, get us closer. I'll feel better about looking if we're closer.

It would be easy to think that the path ahead was going to warp under their watchful gaze, but as Jericho looked ahead, nothing would change. They got closer to the mountain, but it was still a small distance. All the while, Riley was refusing to open her eyes, or be let down. In fact, she looked just a touch childish about it. Had the place finally gotten to her?

"Alright..."

Frowning at the Mindflayer, the dragon moved on ahead, feeling pretty tense about it all. He was expecting the scenery to shift as it had been doing before, but nothing changed. Every now and then, he glanced down at Riley to check up on her. It was concerning really. He just hoped that she'd be better once they got closer.

"We're almost there.."

Unfortunately, it seemed like she was only getting worse. She clutched at Jericho desperately, with first her hands, and then eventually her tentacles, until finally she looked about as wrapped around him as she could be. He couldn't hear it, but she had begun to talk to herself, in her mind. Her head sometimes moved just a touch, as it would if she was having a conversation. Otherwise, there was no way to know that she was hearing voices.

Jericho's voice made her finally open her eyes, and when she did, she immediately looked up to the mountain. It was more of a cone than a mountain should be, and it was the same color as the dirt of the ground it was built around - at this proximity, it was clear this was no creation of nature.

And it was clear the only way to get in, was the hole at the very top.

Good thing you didn't let go. Riley murmured, in that voice that Jericho had only heard once or twice before. It was the voice of a child, and it was frightened. I guess we gotta go up..

Waiting for Riley to respond, Jericho grimaced as she seemed scared. It was unsettling. Very unsettling.

"Riley. Are you sure you can deal with this?" he frowned. He was disturbed by the trip, but the Mindflayer seemed to be taking things a lot harder for some reason. It made him wonder if there was something in the area that Illithids were more susceptible to.

He did recall what she said about how the ones that came before had gone completely mad.

Riley's eyes had been on the opening at the top of the 'mountain', but when Jericho questioned her capability, she turned slowly to rest them on the dragon. They widened, just slightly, before her normal voice snapped out.

Of course I can deal with this. There is nothing to deal with. Besides, what do you suggest as an alternative? Shall we turn back now that we have made it this far? Or do you suggest to abandon me here and go on your own?

She slumped slightly in his arms, visibly sulking. Honestly, Jericho. It is as if you are not thinking things through before you say them. She pointed up sharply. Let's go.

Jericho was taken aback somewhat as Riley practically snapped at him there.

"I just wanted to make sure you were alright.." he sighed before moving on ahead towards the top of mountain. There was something about the area in general that had him unsettled right now. Shifting his wings uncomfortably, he kept scaling up while looking for any signs of danger in the area.

Riley let silence be her response. If she said anything further, she knew she was just going to snap at him further. She busied herself by studying the mountain as they rose up, narrowing her eyes at the thin, hard to see scratch marks all along the surface. Whatever made this used some sort of pronged device, I think.. that, or giant claws. Let us hope those are not the markings of claws.

They reached the top, and the narrow hole left them with no answers. It was deep, and pitch black, which meant they would be entering with no idea what they were to face, until they got inside. The hole itself looked completely dug out, which only made Riley further worry about claws. Or, perhaps, digging appendages?

The scratch marks around the area were a bit worry some. It was hard to tell what had caused them exactly but neither sounded all too ideal for their case. Hopefully whatever did make them was long gone by now.

Up at the top, Jericho peered down the dark hole. He had no nightvision really, so he was going to have to rely on Riley to go down it. Either that or get a torch.

"Well... Here goes nothing," he said with a breath before making his way in.

Once they actually entered the hole, however, it narrowed to a frightening point, and Jericho would be forced to land without even realizing it. The ground came at them before Riley could warn them, and whether he landed on his feet or not would rely entirely on his sense of instinct.

Once they were able to get their bearings, Riley's vision adjusted to the room easily. It wasn't a room, as much as a thin, narrow hall, that led forward in a jagged, maze-like direction.

And of course, true to form, the sounds of shuffling could be heard coming from all directions.

We'd better start moving. She murmured quietly, but her voice was filled with anxiety.

Even as careful as he was, Jericho didn't expect the abrupt landing. Letting out a grunt, he stumbled forth, but managed to stay on his feet. Heaving a sigh, he nodded and stared around. He could hardly see a thing around here with how dark it was.

Jericho shot mentally. He was trying to listen carefully for anything out of place, but that wouldn't help him navigate through the darkness. With a sort of grimace, he carefully began to walk forward.

Riley turned, looking at the sightless dragon in front of her, and her brow furrowed gently. I thought.. hmm. There's no way you could make a little fire of your own, to see with? If not, I can help you navigate, it will just be a tight fit.

She could see the hallway narrowed viciously, and would only allow them to go through one at a time - which meant Jericho would have to hold on to her from behind, if he really couldn't see. The steps sloped downward, eventually turning within the mountain's body and out of her sight.

he frowned. Just so he could see what was right ahead of him right now, he coughed up a bit of flame to temporarily illuminate the area. It wasn't something he could do constantly, but he could do that now and then.
