Shinta continued with his motions even when he heard the thud of a bag drop and a soft gasp. Yup, she was not stealthy in the least. But he figured she wanted to concentrate, so ignored her the best he could and continued his routine.

After a few minutes he stopped the stretches and switched to drills. He had done these so many times, he didn't have to think while he sweated through them. Which meant that his mind started to wander to the only other person in the dojo at the moment.

"So. I see you haven't dropped off the side of the planet after all," he mentioned with a sarcastic drawl. Letting his eyes drift to the side, he smirked in his usual fashion. "I'm glad."

As he spoke, he did a few roundhouse kicks and no handed cartwheels before landing with a drop to one knee and a fist to the ground. It was a perfect showoff move that was popular at demonstrations. However, Shinta lifted his hand the second it made contact.

"Aiya!" he exclaimed as pain shot up his arm. 'Mental note, don't do that again,' he thought belatedly as he rubbed the crook of his arm. "Guess I've still got a little ways to go," he murmured to himself.

"If you get replaced, so do I okay idiot. You ruin my chance I will have your head." In a instant she was by his side a thing of tape in her hand. Taking his arms she taped it up so he could still train. Standing up she threw the tape at him. Mostly she was just pissed off at him. Going back to her corner she went back to work.

It wasn't fair he was just allowed to ignore her. Trying her best to ignore him, it just didn't work. She had spent her time watching the tapes of their fights. So as she tried to train, she very quickly realized it wasn't working.

Growling she was just getting angrier and angrier by the moment. Finally she just couldn't take it another minute. Stomping over across the room she stood in front of him. Reaching back she slap him across the face. "That's what you get for messing with my freaking head." Gripping his shirt she pulled him to her. In a moment her lip meet his. Wanting nothing more then to get even with him.

It just wasn't fair to her that he was allowed to torment her. So it was time to get even. So how did kissing him make anything better, honestly it didn't change anything. Yuukie was just going insane.

Shinta stood in surprise as she wrapped his arm and stalked away.

"Someone's testy today," he countered before he thought better of it. He caught the tape that was thrown, while readjusting the wrapping she did so it didn't cut off circulation before continuing. Keeping a wary eye on her, he slowly continued the drills while not trying any funny stunts.

When she stalked after him again, Shinta backed up a few steps before she caught up to him, hands half raised in submission and a nervous smile on his face. The slap hit quicker than he could respond to, leaving his cheek stinging and red.

"What one earth-" he exclaimed before her lips smashed into his. At first he tried to pull away, but then he stopped. This was not the kiss of a girl in love. The familiarity of it, made him want to cry though he dared not. He felt the heated fury of such a kiss before. Inside he felt his heart tighten in pain, though he thought he had gotten over it. This was why he had told himself he was going to stay away from girls.

Laying his hands firmly on her shoulders, Shinta pulled himself away. A hurt feeling welled up in him and he did not want her to see it. It made him feel hollow and empty. It made him not want to fight anymore.

"I'm sorry," he murmured with eyes downcast as he turned away and walked towards the door.

(see? I can be a drama queen too! Huzzah!)

Yuukie frowned when she realized the truth. None of this was a joke. For the first time in her life someone had told her the truth. Running she desperately reached for his hand. "Shinta please stop, just please." It wasn't fair, he had hated her just a month ago.

Stopping in her tracks she watch him keep walking. Tears streamed down her face. "Fine then just ignore me like you always have. You said you weren't going to laugh at me when I told you a liked you. I love you, you stupid idiot." Sobbing as she screamed at him she wish she had something to throw. Ripping off the necklace she had hidden the threw that at him.

"I've loved you since day one, but the only way you would notice me is by fighting. I worked every single freaking day just to impress you. Everyone hated me one of your friends told everyone that stupid rumor freshman year. I've been lied to and hurt by so many people, I can't even walk down the halls with out getting glared or called hateful names. My parents are dead, I have no family. Now I've just hurt the only guy I've ever cared about."

Yuukie turn and began running, she didn't even know where she was going. Just like last time the dark sky promised rain, as she ran out onto the campus. Her locked was her most precious item. In it held the picture the school newspaper had taken of both of them last year before a big match. Reaching as far as she could until she was crying so hard she felt sick and completely out of breath from running. The locket reminded her that she at least had a rival. That there was on person that somewhat cared, even if it was just so he could beat her up himself. She didn't feel so alone when people tried to hurt her. Now here she was completely alone.

Shinta continued on, his eyes fazed out as she screamed and cried at him. He barely felt the necklace as the beads as they pattered against his back. Then her quickly retreating steps were the only echoed sounds he registered.

"Silly girl. I never ignored you," he murmured when he was alone. Collapsing against the wall by his bag, the martial arts prodigy sighed in defeat."And I never laughed at you. Not once, did I?" Lowering his head to his pulled up knees, he let the tears silently fall.

"But, it's better this way. Right?" Letting his hand fall to the ground at his side, he felt it smack something smooth and warm. Lifting his head, Shinta looked at the pendant Yuukie had thrown at him. Fingering the edges, he realized it was a locket and clicked it open. Inside lay a tiny picture of the two of them. The image made him smile sadly.

Wiping his eyes vigorously, Shinta got to his feet and swiftly made after Yuukie. The locket held securely in his palm.

Yukkie was currently sitting in a bench in the pouring rain. Sobbing as she sat curl up on the bench. She didn't care if it was she caught a cold. At times like this she would hold the locket close and feel safe. Her best friend was a freaking necklace. They had been so mean to her, she hated this school by the end of the first day. at first she had hated his ego. Then they started fighting, and she practically fell on her face.

Screaming slightly when it thundered she curled herself up even tighter. Her parents had died in a car crash when she was five. It had been raining, and the road was more slippery then her father stopped. Waking up weeks later to find out she was going to be raised by monks and nuns.

"I hate my life." She told herself, "Now Shinta hates me, as well." Crying again she began to think over colleges. She could easily transfer somewhere else. She had one more year after all. It would be easy.

By now the rain was stinging her skin. Her gym cloths soaked through and through. She hated herself right now, and just wanted to apologize. He was just going to ignore her, That's all he's ever done. Unless there where about to fight she was invisible to him.

As he darted to the end of the building, Shinta burst out into the rain while he scanned the grounds. Seeing a hunched figure on a bench, he trotted over. By the time he got there, the rain had soaked him completely, making his clothes cling to him uncomfortably. He stopped short, not sure what to do.

Then it caught up with him. All the pain. All of it. He tried to hide how much it hurt to see that hatred in her eyes, but it made him tremble with his own anger tempered by fear. Shinta remembered all those times when he tried to keep everyone at a distance, including Yuukie. And yet she was always there, albeit grudgingly. He always found a way to trick or goad her into doing whatever plan he had concocted.

Collapsing to his knees, he let a few tears fall, knowing that they would be indistinguishable from the rain. Head hanging, he did the only thing he knew.

"I'm sorry. I-I don't know how to handle this," he gasped. Grabbing some of the fabric on her pant leg, he rested his forehead on her knee. "I don't want to hurt anymore, but I don't want to lose you either. I just. . . I just don't know how!"

Yuukie attached herself to him in a single moment. Holding him as close to her as she possibly could. At first she didn't say anything, she just held him. Trying to remember the few times she had been held. It was like she was putting ever ounce of her love for him into this simple hug.

"I was scared you were going to hurt me. I didn't want to chance it. I thought you just didn't remember or were lying to me. I was upset, and wanted to give you a taste of your own medicine. I didn't think it would actually hurt you this much. I promise, I'll never kiss you again."

It was the silliest promise she had ever came up with, but she honestly meant it. Looking up at him, her eyes told him how sorry she was. "You didn't visit me once at my room. I wanted you to, but I figured it wasn't worth your time. I didn't want to wait on a guy that didn't mean it. I don't care if you don't love me, or if you don't even like me. I just don't want to hurt you."

Shinta froze as she launched herself at him. Her body, though soaked, was warm and comforting. A soft hiccup escaped him before he wrapped his arms around her and held on a tight as he could without hurting her.

When she made the promise to never kiss him again Shinta let out a breathy laugh that ended in a choked cry. It was a silly promise, but it was the best one he ever received. When she pulled back enough to look at him, he brushed her plastered bangs away from her face and placed a gentle kiss there like a silent thank you. They really needed to get out of the rain, he thought mildly.

"But I called. I called your phone like a billion times to see how you were doing. I even left text messages, but you never replied. I thought you were mad at me for something," he countered suddenly. Maybe he had her number wrong on his phone?

"How can you say that, silly. How could you even think that I don't like you after all this?" With his trouble making grin, he added, "I'm invincible, remember? The only ones who can hurt me are those I love." After hearing his own words, he laughed.

"I guess that doesn't make me very invincible, huh?"

Letting him go she looked at the ground sadly. "One day during class....someone got in my bag and took my phone...I haven't seen it sense then. I've checked every where, but no luck...I didn't want to say anything...because well..." If someone got caught stealing they where automatically kicked out of school. She had told the master it fell out of her bag, but he knew she just didn't want someone else in trouble.

"I think your invincible." She said with a shy smile as she looked up at him. "Then again that's just me..." Sitting there she laid her head on his shoulder.

"I wanted to see you, but I wasn't allowed to move much. I ended up back in the nurse's office the second week....wasn't very fun that time around...."

Completely ignoring the rain. She just sat there like it was an everyday thing. When it lightning though she would jump and try not to scream. It was her personal fear, and she hated showing it.

"Oh. Well, at least you weren't mad at me," he sighed happily. "At least that time," he added. Maybe he was just a masochist, but he liked it when she was mad at him. It was her way of showing she cared, or at least that she was paying attention to him. He didn't mind seeing this softer side either, come to think of it.

"Thanks," he laughed sarcastically. "But I think you are disqualified from saying that. Since you are one of the few who would cause my downfall," he teased as he held her in the rain.

He fell silent then, as the rain fell down in steady rhythm. Shinta knew right away that the lightning bothered Yuukie when she tensed in his arms.

"Let's get someplace a little dryer," he murmured into her ear softly.

Yuukie nodded, but she didn't move, "I still think your strong though..." Frowning as she looked at the ground. "I feel bad because I keep hurting you, and I don't want to hurt you."

"....will you hold me just for a few more minutes.....it feels nice....your the first person to hold me......in a really long time." She enjoyed it and she didn't want it to be over.

"I promise I'll listen and read every single message when I get my phone back if possible." She didn't want him to know her fears, but she couldn't help moving closer to him when lightning struck. "If we go inside.....will you hold me....then we can practice later, but.....its just nice when you hold me..."

She was mostly relaxed when he held her. Leaning her head back she was asleep just lightly, but still awake enough to be responsive. Like jumping when lightning struck.

"That's the inevitability of live," he countered in a sagely voice. "We will always live and learn by hurting others and in turn being hurt by them. But from that we learn to love and keep things we cherish close." He let her lean on him for a few minutes, eyes wandering towards the grey clouds above. With a sigh, Shinta got to his feet, pulling Yuukie up with him.

"Silly girl. We will catch pneumonia out here if we aren't careful." Keeping one arm draped across her shoulders, he lead her back inside. "Then where would we be, eh? Sick, wounded and out of luck. Master wouldn't let us demonstrate then, would he?" he posed half serious half playfully. Leading them down the hallway towards the locker rooms, Shinta laughed at the image of their master being beaten by a sick Yuukie.

"I always kept you close." She reached to pull on her locket, but she had thrown it at him. Frowning she let her arms drop. "Well.....I use to....." Looking at the ground she felt bad again. "Will...will you hold me again one day soon.....I'd really enjoy that..." She mused softly before looking up.

"Where are we going." She asked looking up at him. She didn't even have a locker in the locker rooms, she didn't need one. Always keeping her bag with her, which held more then the silly locker did.

((feel free to take this where ever I'm to tired to..))

With a knowing smile, Shinta dug in his pocket.

"Here," he said after a moment. Before her, he dangled the locket she threw at him. "I would hate for you to lose something so important to you."

"To the locker rooms. They have towels there and spare gym clothes," he explained. "Not to mention hot showers. I don't always use them, but man they hold more hot water than my tank at home. I could stand under that spray all day and never feel cold," he shivered in memory. "And I don't know about you, but a hot shower after frolicking in the rain sounds pretty good."

Feeling especially mischievous, he added playfully," You could join me if you like." For good measure he added a wink before pulling away.

Shinta was only teasing of course, she didn't have to if she didn't want to. Not that he'd mind if she did though, but he doubted she was that bold. Besides, just cause their feelings were in the open didn't mean he was going to stop poking fun and causing trouble. That was his M.O.
