Ahh, so Jove was looking for the glowing ones! Happy that she could be of service, Astra decided that she wanted to continue to help jove find some mushrooms. One, because it was nice to help out others, and two, it was fun.

As she looked around at the others who were looking for their own mushrooms, she began to smell something...bad. Really bad. she placed both hands over her nose much like jove had done not wanting to smell the horrible stench. It wasn't as bad for her since she didn't possess a keen sense of smell, but it was still pretty nasty.

'I didn't think mushrooms could smell so bad..." she said.

Maritess was about to ask whether if Sheridan's room wasn't as peaceful as the outdoors. Instead she blinked at the dragon boil's question, "W-why? Do I look I'm not alright?" she quickly looked at herself, patting down her blouse and studying her wings and combing her fingers through her long hair. She had hoped her distress over a certain limb's presence wasn't too obvious. It just didn't seem proper to be airing one's dirty laundry to someone she'd just met. Hell, not even Lizzy knew about her current predicament.

She had missed Astra's friendly gesture from earlier before, but with the fairy reaper busy with the mushroom hunt, the winged vampire didn't feel particularly bad about it. Not to mention she was currently busy trying not to work herself into a self-conscious conniption.

Sheridan shook his head.

"I only meant you seem a bit...troubled by something."

Or was the word distracted? Maybe he had imagined it. Not that they weren't all a bit troubled lately. The trip had affected them all, whether they showed it or not, some harder than others For his own part he had spent many nights out on the roof simply looking up at the stars, almost as if a part of him were afraid they would disappear the moment he looked away. It was foolish, he knew no such thing could ever happen, and yet, there he was.

A shrug, the twitch of his tail, either way it was not his place to pry.

"How many more mushrooms do you need?"

The question was spoken to Jove. Should they keep looking?

Tybalt was a little disappointed when Jove backed away from his find. Not that he could blame him. It was an awful stench. But now that it had been rejected, he had to go find another. Which he was about to do when he caught Astra's words and offered her a weak smile; rubbing the back of his head in an apologetic manner.

"Oh! Ahahah... My bad!" He said, scooping up the mushroom and throwing it as far across the forest as he could manage. Which thankfully was far enough that the smell no longer offended anyone. Much.

"I'm going to go have another look." He called again, before heading off in the opposite direction he had previously went; scanning the ground as he walked. Unfortunately, he still didn't know what he was looking for. But finding all these different kinds of mushrooms wasn't such a bad experience either. He now even had something he could use in future pranks! Speaking of which, he should really come back later and bag some of those things. He even had a few people in mind who he might have to 'deliver' them to.

With that decided, he stopped at the base of the tree, and gave one good sniff. Well something was here and it smelled similar... but would it be what they needed? Only one way to find out. Crouching down beside it, the black dog dug gently at the dirt and grass clearing it away as best as he could to see what he had.

"Hey Jove I think I--" He started to call, but just when he picked them up, they crumbled into pieces. "Err... Ahh... Never mind!" He called back, while dumping the remains on the spot and glaring at them.

What shitty luck was this!?

While Astra was trying not to breathe in the fumes, she noticed Maritess's distress over...something, she wasn't sure. But she was trying to fix up her appearance even though personally the fae thought she looked fine. Although before she could go over and inquire more about the situation, she noticed the bad smell had faded away, and turned back to see tybalt had thrown away the mushrooms.

Thankful that the bad smell was gone now, she now realized that Tybalt seemed really sorry for finding the mushrooms, judging by the way he was rubbing the back of his head. While they did smell awful, she didn't want him to feel bad about it...

As he walked away to find some more fungi, she floated a little behind him to see how he would fair, and found that he was really having a hard time finding anything good. She took a quick glance around the area and spied a nearby tree with plenty of rotten leaves under it's trunk, and went towards it, landing and getting on her hands and knees to sort through the decaying foliage. It was dirty work, but she wasn't phased by it, considering she spent much of her time living near trees and plants.

"Hey tybalt! maybe if you try looking around here?" she called out to the ghost dog.

West frowned for a second, but the expression faded as quickly as it had come for a change. He supposed he had been able to figure out that the last batch of mushrooms he had found was pretty bleh all on his own. At least he hadn't chosen anything approaching the skankiness of the fungus Tybalt had unearthed. His nose wrinkled and he backed away from the ghost dog, leaving Jove to fend for himself.

He moved away from the crowd again, eventually getting down on his hands and knees to root around in the short bushes in this new area he had entered. Nothing. Nothing. More nothing. West sat back on his heels, rubbing his filthy hands on this thighs irritably. It had been a mistake to stop here in the first place, and it would definitely be a mistake to stick around. He had better things to do. The wrath demon pushed himself to his feet and turned to head back toward the school when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a strange glow. Yes, there. He was sure that was the sort of glow that came off of the mushrooms some of the others had found!

Looking around nonchalantly so he wouldn't attract attention, West tried to maintain a casual stroll as he approached the shining growths. He had them now. "Jove," he muttered, bending over to prod at the things and make sure someone hadn't just left a glowstick out here. "Jove!"

Jove glanced over at Sheridan, still holding his hands over his nose. How many more mushrooms? The wagon was maybe half full of dirt and mushrooms, Jove could have headed back at any time and enjoyed a good night of mushroom-replanting. But he was hesitant to leave while there was still even a faint light in the woods, and while there were more mushrooms to discover.

He made a choked bark noise in protest as West abruptly left, but Tybalt had gotten the message and disposed of the mushrooms anyway. The scent still clung to the older ghost dog, but it was certainly within the realm of tolerance. Leaving him to go hunt with Astra, he trotted over to where West was impatiently trying to get his attention.

When the pup wandered over his good ear perked, and then his tail started wagging. The demon had found something good this time! Jove crouched next to the demon and began digging, taking more care to unearth the delicate root filaments in one piece than he was to making sure he didn't get the other demon a little dirty in the digging process. It hadn't even crossed his mind that others may have felt an aversion to being covered in rich dirt and detritus.

Tybalt was about to stomp down hard on the mushroom remains when he heard Astra call to him. Though why she was suggesting he look over there was beyond him. How would searching over there be any different from the area he was currently looking in? Then again, it could make a world of difference. After all, he was already having bad luck in this particular spot.

"Coming!" He called back; dusting off his knees before he trotted over to where she was. Deciding that it was better to at least give it a try.

"Think there's anything here?" He asked as he plopped down beside her and pawed lightly at the dirt. Though he was sure, with his luck, it would be something completely different. He hoped it was what they were looking for. It would save him the trouble of having to keep looking, but if he found another crumbly type he was going to kick it!

Fortunately, whatever he found was not a crumbly mushroom. Unfortunately, it wasn't what they were looking for either. In fact, he wasn't even sure it was even a mushroom.

"I don't think that's what we're looking for..." He said, staring at the chunk of log he had just uncovered.

Jove frowned over in Tybalt's direction. The older ghost was having a hard time finding something good, and it baffled the pup. Couldn't the other dog smell his way to the right mushrooms? Maybe he just didn't know what he was looking for.

The little wisp trotted over and grabbed Tybalt's hand, gesturing for him to follow along as he headed towards the wagon. He looked at the pile again with a speculative, weighing focus, and then selected one, probably the best mushroom of all, to hold up to Tybalt. Jove knew the scent was subtly different from the other mushrooms, and although it was somewhat obscured by the stench still lingering from one of the black dog's earlier finds, he hoped it would help.

West made a slight face at the bits of dirt that were hitting his shoe, but otherwise he just slid his foot out of the way. He might have minded the dirt if he hadn't already been filthy, but unless someone got ketchup on his favorite sweater or something, the demon was of the opinion that any article of clothing could be replaced with a simple trip to the maul.

What he was more interested in was the fact that he seemed to have picked correctly this time. Yes! Who was master of mushrooms? That's right, it was West. He crossed his arms over his chest as Jove scampered away, but rather than wearing his customary frown, West had a satisfied smirk on his face.

This was proving to be quite a frustrating task. How come everyone else was finding them and he wasn't? He must have picked up every kind of mushroom BUT the kind Jove was looking for. He was so frustrated in fact that he felt like throwing in the towel! But... that would be admitting defeat! And there was no way in hell was he admitting defeat! Especially in front of the idiot bird! Thankfully before he could make up his mind on what to do, the little wisp grabbed him by the hand and gestured for him to follow.

Perhaps he was onto something that he wasn't? But after following, he could see what he was up to.

So these were what they were looking for... Damn it! How the hell could he not find these!? They glowed for Jack's sake! Now he was really tempted to go back. Find that chunk of log he uncovered and throw it! In the end, there was no log tossing. Instead, he chose to go look for more of these accursed mushrooms.

"I'll find one! I'll freakin' find one this time!" He convinced himself, but even after that, what he uncovered was yet again not the result he had in mind.

"........."

"NEXT ONE WILL BE THE ONE!" He yelled and stormed off to look around some more.

Jove had stood to admire his pile of mushrooms heaped in the small wagon, until he heard Tybalt's shout. Ears perked. Was the other ghost still having trouble?

With a confused frown, the pup trotted over to Tybalt and eyed the latest find, which was less than thrilling. So he was still having trouble... Maybe he had a cold, and his nose was all stuffed up, or he had accidentally snorted dinner and was smelling nothing but spiced ghost shrimp...

Still wearing that confused frown, Jove took Tybalt's hand and gestured a little ways off from the giant dead oak. He scented the air, and walked a careful circle along the edge of the clearing, and then he stopped in his tracks. There was a good-smelling mushroom in the area, maybe Tybalt could find it now that they were in the right area.

Tybalt wasn't sure if he wanted to follow in the direction Jove had pointed him, or simply just throw away his pride and give up. It seemed that when it came to mushrooms and finding them, the black dog was a failure. A complete failure. This was only proven to be true. Because even after the big hint from the little wisp of where to look, he only found fungi growing on the base of the tree. Certainly not the growing little mushrooms that they were looking for.

"That's it! I give up!" He grumbled; crossing his arms over his chest and plopping down onto the ground to sulk. He had enough with the hunt for one da--scratch that! For a life time!
PostPosted: Wed May 18, 2011 7:03 pm

Jove's ears fell as Tybalt flopped down onto the ground, right next to the mushrooms he had smelled. The force of the flump even disturbed the dead leaves obscuring the mushrooms from the black dog's view, he was that close. Why was he not using his nose? The puppy didn't want to let his fellow ghost leave in disappointment, so he perked his ears and wagged his tail enthusiastically, as if Tybalt had intentionally sat there in order to find the mushrooms.

With any luck, Ren wouldn't notice Tybalt's string of bad luck. Or at least have the good sense not to point it out.

Unfortunately, Jove's silent encouragement went unseen. In fact, Tybalt had no clue that the mushroom was right behind him and under a light blanket of leaves. It was only when the black dog flopped down onto the ground in disappointment did he feel a 'lump' beneath his back.

"..........."

Reaching underneath; without actually getting up, the black dog pulled the object free and stared blankly at his find.

"..........."

Well... it was a little crumbled and squished... but hey! He found one!

"Ah hah!" Sitting up, the black dog puffed out his chest and proudly presented it. Treating it as though it was the best find out of everyone that he hadn't squished it. "I found one!" He exclaimed.
