"I rather like people owing me favors." Zac said with perhaps more honesty than was warranted for the situation. Oblivious to the double meaning that could have been taken from it and eyes on the Couple that were pacing back and forth beyond the kitchen doors. He didn't speak Italian but he spoke 'tone' and 'body language damn well."
"You're so in..." He declared after a moment looking pleased with himself. There was no way that had been his reason for taking him to -this- restaurant...was there?

Ever, at least, wouldn't put it past him: Zac had already well proven himself to be conniving, controlling, and more than just a little bit sociopathic. None of these was necessarily a bad thing. Combined, they meant that he was probably cold, potentially unlikeable, had trouble with other people -- but at least could be relied on to get things done. And Ever wouldn't mind having something like that...
"Hmmph. Thank you." The words sounded almost painful. He tried not to roll his eyes.

"Would you like more to drink? That had to be hard to swallow." he quipped and smirked over his drink. "I should make a bet on how much weight you'll gain in a -week- here." He chuckled. "If the topic makes you uncomfortable I could swap back to this." He grinned and tapped the book. "There was some interesting reading on the relativity of time and divisible trying to tie the Big Bang to your book here..." It was antagonistic at it's best but he was more than curious to see what Ever might swap the topic to.

'Relativity of time' and the Big Bang weren't exactly Ever's area of expertise. He shook his head at Zac, fighting down the urge to roll his eyes and looking up toward the kitchen again. He stabbed his last meatball and chewed it down before leaning back again.
"If you have it, I'll read it." That, at least, was true. Ever would read just about anything, at this point. He'd started with a bunch of banned books at college...

"Duly noted..." He said and sounded pleased again. "With your own particular skepticism too i have no doubt." It was amazing how much he could -bristle- at Ever for being an impediment, a flirt, and an a**... but how refreshing it was at the same time to banter like this. Disturbing was probably a better word for it because he didn't -need- anyone else that he had to question what he thought about them on a minute to minute basis... but he just couldn't seem to leave well enough alone.

"And you can always find me at the library." He shook his head again, dropping fis fork into his dish and then hesitating for only a moment before he reached out to nab the dessert menu and scan through it. He could barely remember the last time he'd had a proper desert. "How often do you come here, anyway? They seem pretty familiar with you..."

"A few times a month... My mother used to bring me here once a week when I was younger." Note that he had not said smaller, that was too open for jokes...
"She said Father helped them get set up in business, they started in New York but moved here, they never really said why other than it -seemed- safer at the time... then of course all this...nonsense with Senshi and the rest started happening." He shrugged. "So It's a long time rather than a frequency knowledge." He looked oddly green and reached out slide the soda pitcher between you and the desert menu... must have something seriously against red velvet cake for that kind of look.

That froze Ever and -- he shot another look up at Zac, his head tilted to the side and expression somewhat befuddled. That had come across, to Ever, more angry than disgusted. and he took a moment to try and figure out exactly what he'd done wrong. At the end of that moment, he was no closer to any kind of solution.
"...huh? No?" No desert? He went for the soda, instead; Ever could live with that.

"..." Zac blinked ... "No red...velvet cake." He said carefully. "Anything on the damn menu but that, it's a VERY... long story. Try the...canolli... I hear their very good... I'm just off sweets for the most part." He shrugged and leaned back in his chair.

"Cannoli are the ones shaped like...ah." He made big eyes at Zac, pausing just long enough to let him fill in all kinds of dirty ideas there, before he rolled a hand in a little twirling gesture and finished it off.
"You know, straws?" Zac could just thank his lucky stars that Ever didn't push for the red velvet cake story right now. Instead, he stored it away for later.

A long pause... it looked like he was about to give the standard rebuttal of "p***k" but after a moments struggle he managed in a tight voice to reply with. "....and I suppose you like to suck the creamy filling out... how about something -else-"

Ever laughed at him -- a sudden laugh, helpless and surprised. He hadn't gone there. Ever really hadn't gone there, and he took the fact that Zac had decided to do so as a personal victory. He was obviously wearing the kid down, changing him some; given some time, Ever thought he could turn Zac into a proper, vocal pain in the a**.
"Um." Oh god. He swiped at his eyes, thinking about it. "I really just want vanilla ice cream."

Zac gave a small groan and pinched the bridge of his nose, once you'd 'gone' there it was hard to get it out again. "I hate you..." He said with no uncertainty in the tone. "Especially right now...you're doing that on purpose.... God I hate you..." Vanilla his -as.... no he wasn't finishing that one, not even in his head. "I'll have a brownie..." He told her but his face was bright red and she tilted her head and glanced between the two of you and took on a 'knowing' look that only made it worse. "IT's not!" Zac said though she just laughed softly and put the bill on the table and handed you a card. Inside was an offer to use their spare room, free of charge and meals if you might help out a 'poor old couple' once in a while if you didn't much mind.
Zac looked ready to crawl under the table and die.

But...but he'd really just wanted vanilla ice cream...
Ever waited until she was gone before he opened the card, to prevent the awkwardness of humming and hawing over if he agreed or not. Then he sat looking at it with his smile fading out a little toward something more puzzled. Considering. He watched Zac over the top of it.
"...is she likely to think better of me if she does think we're an item?" Ever definitely wasn't above playing into that.

"NO!" Zac said hastily...and then repeated in more reasonable tones "No...and they will NEVER find your body if you even THINK of using that as part of this." His fingers gripped the edge of the table hard as he fished out money and stuffed it under the pitcher for the drinks. Little did Ever know part of it came out of his wallet the night of the Taxi.
