It was as she was nearing the pile of debris that she had the uncanny feeling that she was being watched turning her head this way and that she finally spotted the hulking figure of Kijembe stareing in her direction. she told herself that he was just doing his job..and she need not worry about him..but he creeped her out to be honest. she blamed the color of his hide and because she knew he was close to her King and Queen she gave him a pretty look that she didn't really mean and then turned around to continue searching through the pile, pulling away some smaller sticks with her claws to see what might be hiding inside.
"Creepy lion" she muttered mostly to herself though Aurora clicked her beak in agreement. "Oh huh and check the other side" She ordered the bird - rather annoyed at the clicking so close to her ear. As the bird flew off Maua cooed sweetly into the pile hoping to lure out any cubs within "Come little sweet cubs, Maua has come to save you!" Raziela of course was there too but Maua was sure she was searching another part of the pile.

Various scents wafted to his nose, some of lions of the search party, those of the groundlings, plants, the moist ground, they all flooded his senses. It was hard to distinguish is any of these smells was that of one of the lost cubs. It was possible of course that their scent was over shadowed by all these stronger smells. He took a few more steps away from the fallen tree as Gali gave it one last inspection.
"Do not fear little ones." He gently called out into the trees. "Come on out and we can get you something to eat." Perhaps calling out to the cubs, and more importantly offering them a meal would persuade them out of hiding. Kamau took a moment to glance over his shoulder, ensuring that he didn't lose track of Gali while he searched more for the cubs. "You are safe to come out." He reassured any cub who may be within earshot.

A small rustle in the brush caused Kunstig's attention to shift. Curious, he looked around, glancing over his shoulder at his sister for reassurance. If Moilik did not look concerned, and to be fair she rarely did, then he would not worry either. "Hello? Is someone there? We won't hurt you, we just want to help," the young lion called, breaking off his harmony with the blue lioness to do so. Her lullaby was pleasant music though, and if there was no response he'd join her once again. Even if the tune did not draw the cubs to come out from hiding, the music made the searching far more plesent.
Even if they were unsuccessful today, it would not be a day wasted. They would have learned a bit more about their new home, perhaps earned some small degree of favor from the king for being helpful, and had the pleasure of listening, and in his case harmonizing, with a lovely melody. Not a bad way to spend a day really.
((I am not signed up to keep a cub in this event, but Kunstig would just pass him off to Parisette, since she's with them at the moment. Velvie is asleep now, so while I know she signed up... yeah. If this isn't allowed, just ignore the roll~ ))

Kijembe stared at Maua, not looking away until the other lion went. He frowned, though it wasn't much different than his normal face, and his thoughts continued to be his own. He padded toward her for a few steps, then turned away and wandered off to go stare at someone else.

nessiaing Hinekiri only barely caught the tone of voice that changed in the lioness when she spoke of the one named Adaloise. She quickly decided not to push the subject, Hinekiri was no stranger to the idea of life being harder then others guess, and she assumed that Beatrix probably had secrets of her own.
"It is true it is helpful to have a searching partner, it makes you feel safer in this great big forest." Hinekiri said as she walked further into the dark trees. Walking along the lioness found herself humming a small tune she wasn't sure what else to do when it came to searching for cubs, they wouldn't know her voice if it were to call out at them, instead she hoped that he humming would coax them out of their hiding places.
All of a sudden Hinekiri had one of her paws slip out from underneath her. After a quick gasp she realized she had stepped into an enterence of a den. "Hey Beatrix, look there seems to be a small den here, perhaps cubs have hidden inside." Hinekiri looked around a little tentative to go inside on her own, the den of course would be dark, but it couldn't go unexplored. Beatrix nodded her head to Hinekiri in agreement and walked along side the other for some time. Suddenly, Hinekiri began to hum and Beatrix's ears alerted forward as she listened. Beatrix loved music, particularly singing. When she lived her old life she would sit there and listen to the birds that sung constantly where they lived. They sounded so beautiful and she loved to hum along. Whatever song they were singing, it was beautiful, even when they were angry it was beautiful.
Beatrix hummed along with Hinekiri, quietly while trying to keep her ears and eyes out for any of the other cubs. She had wandered a way a small bit when she heard something in the distance and saw a red little flash dart in and out of a bush and behind a tree.
"Miss Hinekiri, I think I found on-" She heard Hinekiri call for her and turned her head to see Hinekiri's leg underneath her and the opening of a den become visible. Beatrix began to respond to Hinekiri, telling her she'd be right over when she saw a dart of red again behind her, scurry behind a tree. "Miss Hinekiri! A cub just scurried behind you!"

With a jerk in the direction of the sudden voices raised in alarm, Subira turned her head and saw the small cub. With a sweet and gentle voice she called out, "Come to me little one! We can take care of you, you don't have to be alone anymore." She looked to Fahamu to see if he would get the cub's attention.

He stood still and silent for a short while waiting to see if there was a reply to his call. When finally nothing came he decided it was time to keep moving. With a check to make sure Gali was right behind him and began to walk back into the forest. "They have to be around here somewhere." He said more to himself than to Gali, he wasn't trying to ignore her, no he was trying the thinking out loud thing again. They had checked near the river, under bushes, in small spaces they could have hidden, where else was there to check? They had even offered food but no cub came running towards them.
Well, perhaps the cubs were too afraid to be found and lions searching all over the forest calling out to them may cause them to stick to their well hid hiding spots. Time to try a different approach. Kamau now walked rather casually along the path, acting more as if he was going for a nice little midday stroll than out searching for lost cubs. His thinking was perhaps a relaxed and casual looking lion might bring them out of hiding. It was worth a shot right? Of course it was, he told himself while throwing a casual glance at Gali hoping she would catch on to what he was trying.

Gali didn't comment as Kamau took up her line of enticement, but followed him away from the log. "Little ones?"
She didn't know if she was good with children. Perhaps there was supposed to be some kind of natural maternal instinct, but if it was there it was hidden under months of focus on her own future. The hunger theme drifted off, but Gali had been a cub once too. Surely she could remember what cubs liked.
She only realized Kamau had stopped speaking after she stepped on a twig. The look he cast her prompted a nod. She understood, and Gali was as good at following others' leads as she was at making her own. Still, being completely silent wouldn't prompt any cubs to come their way, as far as she could guess.
"What do you plan to do within the pride? You have been added to the ranks of nobles." It wasn't even a question. It was clear from his bearing that someone had gotten him in as a noble and he was full aware of his rights. Gali could only hope he wasn't one of those full-of-themselves lower nobles.

We can take care of you, you don't have to be alone anymore." She looked to Fahamu to see if he would get the cub's attention. The small cub seemed to like the idea of not being alone, inching towards Subira after poking out from behind a tree. Hungry, he nommed onto the female's tail, looking up pathetically as he waited to be taken away from this terrible place.

"Theres nothing here" Maua finally admitted - after having torn apart a good portion of the debris pile. It had seemed like a good place for a cub to hide but she supposed there were plenty of such hiding spots in this dratted forest.
Her tail tip tapped on the ground for a few moments as she considered where to look next and regarded her daughter "I suppose we ought to just keep on checking along the stream.." She suggested.

So far the casual walking wasn't proving to be fruitful, but he continued to do so just in case. A relaxed and friendly looking lion may very well be more welcoming to the cubs than one who was frantically looking for them. It was good to see Gali caught on to what he was doing and she walked along with him, as quite casually. Of course when she asked her question he scrunched up his face in thought.
He remained quiet for a few more moments as they walked along thinking on his answer. "To be perfectly honestly," he said as he glanced towards her. "I have not had the time to fully think on what my exact role will be in the pride." Yes he had been granted the rank of noble due to his purple mane but beyond that had not quite had the opportunity to expand on his options. "With all the goings on since I join, getting myself a den, trying to learn as many of the names and faces of the other nobles, settling into the routine of pride life, and now this..I have not had the proper opportunity to figure that out." He would figure it out soon, perhaps not today, they were busy looking for cubs after all, but tomorrow, tomorrow he would speak with those he needed to and discuss his options and see if there was a position among the nobles best suited for him. "And what about yourself?"

Mot'e thought for an instant that she'd heard the cries of a cub. She tilted her head in the direction of the noise, but waiting, she found that she heard nothing else and shrugged. Maybe if she were to hunt and kill a rabbit or something small, the hungry ones would come find her...
The lioness pouted. What was she thinking? She wasn't that interested in finding a cub. (Well, she was) In reality, she wouldn't mind having some company. Having something that depended on you for everything was nice in a way, it gave a feeling of purpose. And so now, Mot'e was on the hunt for something yummy for the cubs as well as the cubs themselves.
Maybe before either of that, however, she'd have to find someone to help her. She sighed and frowned. But would they then try to keep whatever they found? So many problems, and nothing had even happened yet!

Parisette broke off her lullaby when them male (Kunstig) stopped harmonizing with her, and she turned to look when he spoke to the bushes. He must of heard something, she realised, and stepped forward, closer to him, so as to peer into the bushes as well.
"Did you hear something?" She asked, keeping her voice light, and a smile on her face - in case any cubs were nearby and could see them. It always helped to project a happy imagine, she mused to herself.
"Little ones?" She called softly, adding to his calls, and waited to see if the bushes would yield anything to the trio. It was nice to have company when she was searching. Not only would today have - hopefully - returned some cubs to the land of the not-creepy, she would have also made two friends! Even if the female did not speak much, she was still friendly when she did so. She wondered what their ranks were, since they were new members, but did not think it polite to ask. Ranks weren't important. What was important, was helping to search, and perhaps making friends.

Hinekiri looked all around her but was unable to see the cub that her new friend has seen. She frowned she was torn between wanting to chase after the cub that Beatrix may have seen or exploring this den further. "Are you sure? I don't see anything." Hinekiri wasn't sure if her eyes were now just playing trick on her, perhaps the fairies were out and about having fun.
"I think we should look in this den. I was left alone when I was a small cub once and I hid in a den, it felt safe compared to bein out in the open. I think perhaps a cub would have liked to hid in here." Hinekiri told the other lioness only the bare minimum of hwaat she had to to make her point, now wasn't the time to go into her long sad life story. Instead the lioness beant her bright head into the den hole waiting for her eyes to adjust. "Hello there, is anyone in?" she called in a small soft voice.
"I'm here to help." she slowly lowered her self into the den not wanting to scare anyone who might be inside.

Raziela nodded. "He's worried about the little ones," she said as Pan trotted toward her and they made their way along the streambed. "And usually rather stubborn when it comes to something he cares about." It hadn't taken her very long at all to discover that about the maned wolf.
Having checked another part of the pile, and to avail as well, the dark lioness nodded. "There are sure to be other places suitable for hiding a small cub along the stream," she agreed, peering down the way as if to scout.
"Pan, run on ahead and make sure everything is alright, will you?" As the maned wolf trotted off to do her bidding, she turned to Maua. "We will find something soon," she said determinedly. But if they didn't, at least Father had already found a cub. She was sure that would have pleased her mother, even if for no other reason than to curry favor with the King.
