Holy bleep.

Teeth. Claws. Not too unusual on animals of large proportions. But scales? And being inside the compound? Far more unusual.

Panic clamped down on the two like the sound of the door shutting behind them. With some time, the smarter of the two may have been able to figure out some of what the hell was going on without any one telling them. That might have been nicer on their systems, but panic is not conducive to complicated thought process.

Leone clamped a hand over his mouth as his eyes swelled with shock. Geff fainted.

Ah. Um. Er. Um. Okay, not sure what to do now.

Nej took several steps back after Geff fainted, grabbing the end of his shirt instinctively. And he made a very good job of trying to be a part of the background.

Looking at Leone and Geff, he felt like he needed to say something, like he was forgetting manners of some sort. But he kept tight lipped and stayed a good couple arms lengths away from the two other slaves. Just in case, ya know.

A brief glance at Ygrashmak and Nej paled slightly as well. The silver dragon seemed even more imposing than before, and that was saying something. At least that... wasn't directed at him.

See Nej? Scary sonofa-

And as for Nonriavi, Nej did a fine job of trying not to pay attention to him too. Trying not to.

Ygrashmak swiveled his head down toward the still-conscious thug. He slowly breathed a heavy cloud of hot air at the man before broadcasting a private voice into his mind. It was deeper and more rough than his earlier words, but he made sure to keep the twitchy Nej out of the loop.

You have terrified innocent souls. You have horrified innocent people. You have harmed innocent bodies. Prepare to meet karma.

Ygrashmak growled deeply at the slave man. He barred his teeth, showing the very white, shiny, and sharp fangs. Ygrashmak's mercury-like eyes seemed to bore into Geff's face. Ygrashmak was trying to invoke all of his natural intimidating powers, and he prayed that it worked. He hated being scary, but he considered it necessary.

The fact that the beast had the intelligence necessary to be able to mind-speak may have been comforting under vastly different circumstances.

"Karma?" he squeaked. That didn't sound like something that Leone wanted. he found himself on his knees without hardly knowing how he got there, and though he tried to speak, he only managed to gasp through barely moving lips.

His eyes dropped to the floor before he closed them and covered his head. Some part of him knew that wouldn't protect him from the dragon and seemingly imminent death, but that part of him was not in control of any of his bodily functions.

All right, so Nej had just opted to close his eyes (tightly) and hide behind his hands. And stick in the corner. Not that he was scared (unless, of course, he was) but it made him severely unsettled to see the two tough guys grounded by Ygrashmak.

Yep, if he closed his eyes and focused less on the sounds around him, it was just it wasn’t happening. At least it wasn’t him. Mmhm.

Nej . . . A mite of, well, Nej wasn’t sure what it was, but something seeped into Nonriavi’s voice. Although, it seemed to be laced with something like concern.

It’s fine – I’m fine. It is okay. But – ah – he had just realized, he hadn’t been hearing Ygrashmak’s voice since the incident had begun. Cautiously, he peered from behind his fingers.

Ygrashmak peered at the remaining thug. He glared at the puny fleshling, growled a bit, and showed some teeth. All he really wanted to do was to cause this human to faint. After all, fainting would be quite conveniant. They would come to, unharmed and delirious. Any tales of dragons, beasts, monsters, etc. would seem far-fetched. They would just say that the creature that destroyed this room was the same that destroyed Jhovam's. They would be right, of course, but Ygrashmak didn't care. He was even thinking of faking the slaveboy's (who it seemed was about to panic) death. Maybe some blood, shreds of fabric . . .

Eh, that would have been a lot of work. Hopefully the crazy woman would think of something to cover up Nej's trail. But first thing's first - the thugs. Ygrashmak did his best to be intimidating, focusing any of his innate dragon fear into the little meat bag. Ygrashmak began to grow deeply and softly. His bass rumbling grew in a gradual crescendo. As soon as the thug would faint, Ygrashmak would stop.

The remaining thug collapsed with the sickly smell of fresh urine; Fabel heard the thump just as she was returning. She opened the door cautiously, her hand on a dagger at her belt. When she saw only the four of them, she quickly shut the door behind her.

"The balcony is down the hall, fifth door on the left," she informed him without comment on the state of her two helpers on the floor. "There shouldn't be any one near enough to watch, so run! You will need to fly, so take Nej. And...good luck. Nej, do you need help mounting?"

Fabel was assuming that she would not be going, although she probably could if she and the dragon were both determined.

Nej's hands slid off his face as he more felt than heard the second hit the floor. He wrinkled his nose and instinctively almost covered his eyes again, but Fabel had entered the room.

The sudden briskness of it all made Nej realize just what it was that he was getting into. Okay, maybe not exactly, but he got the jist of it, and it made his fingers tighten around the fabric of his shirt. His voice, as well, seemed to be stuck, lost, somewhere, because all he could do in response to Fabel was nod.

And Nonriavi wasn't helping either, at all, or maybe he had just lost his voice too.

Ygrashmak smiled to himself. Yep - he still had his intimidating presence. He was excited; it was not every day where a Dragon could fulfill some of his darker urges.

When Fabel entered, Ygrashmak frowned slightly. He tried his best to make himself as low to the ground and small as he could, which was relatively small. Ygrashmak wasn't a fully grown dragon, after all.

Mount me? Where would he sit? Ygrashmak looked at his own back. Along the spine was a shimmering frill held up by silvery, bony spikes. That would not be comfortable to sit on. In fact, the lowest part of the frill was right in front of the wing joints. He could tolerate a weight pressing down on it, but it would be uncomfortable. Oh well, though Ygrashmak. Freedom is worth it.

"I don't know," she admitted as she hurried them through the hallways to the open balcony, "it's not like we have a saddle that would fit you."

Fable stood with her back against a decorative pole that ran from the floor of the balcony to the balcony above them. She cringed as Ygrashmak's nails clicked conspicuously against the tile flooring. Careful as he might be, the place was simply not made for a dragon to sneak through.

"You should try to mount, now," she coaxed the frighten slave. If she seemed calm, that might be because she was not the one mounting.

Nej's knuckles were white as chalk, still gripping tightly around the fabric of his shirt. This-this- it was really happening wasn't it? His mind was running wild, with disconnected notions and ideas, but trying to piece it together was like trying to shove two puzzle pieces together that didn't quite fit.

He was jerked into reality when Fable spoke to him. He gave her a shaky nod, but it definately was a nod, even if he kept his eyes to his hands and never quite looked her in the eye.

Take a deep breath, Nej. A deep breath, down in your gut.

Nonriavi's words calmned him ever so, and he did manage to take a shuddering breath. That didn't help as much, but now he could concentrate on mounting.

Er. So he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do, really. Ygrashmak was bigger than Nej was, even crouched down, and round. He was probably slippery too, and he wasn't sure he could get up.

But, he'd try.

And so he did, scrambling up somehow. His feet and hands slipped against Ygrashmak's scales and he was sure the first time he had grabbed the dragon's frill that that'd probably hurt. But, somehow, he found his way on.

Ygrashmak stayed as still as he could for Nej. He doubted the slaveboy had ever mounted a dragon, so it was natural for him to fumble now and then. He did flinch when the frill was pulled, but Ygrashmak managed to stay still enough.

Hold on tight, little one. With a quick glance behind him, Ygrashmak slowly stood up. He checked to make sure Nej was all right before he took one slow step forward. If you start slipping, let me know.

Ygrashmak looked to Fabel with an impatient expression. When will I make my grand escape?

"What are you looking at me for?" she responded in an exasperated tone.

There was nothing physically stopping him out on that open balcony. He was not very high up nor was the balcony very long for a flying take off, but the young beast could still try. Flying would be the best, for who knew what unlucky worker might be right below them?

Fabel had her hands clamped together, staring at them. Having them there was like having a ton of incriminating evidence at her feet, and her not able to burn it or nudge it away.

"Go!"

Looking at Fabel, Nej felt the sickening drop of his stomach. Nonraivi, what if we get caught? Or I fall? Or-or-

Nej! The dragon said, and Nej was sure his voice was trembling. Stop twittering for a breeze of a moment. Nej took a steadying breath and his hand ghosted over his necklace (which was safely snugged under his shirt). You don't need to worry. You won't fall. Just hold on. And Nonriavi sounded so sure.

Nej nodded, more to assure himself that everything would be alright than anything else, and braced himself in any way he could. Right then, he had half a mind to just close his eye so, whenever Ygrashmak finally got them flying, he wouldn't be able to see the ground disappear below them. But before he did, he looked over at Fabel. While he didn't manage to look her in the eye, he did manage to utter, "Th-thank you." Because, really, what else was there to say?

Ygrashmak smiled to himself when he looked back at Nej. It was amazing to see such a small boy take on such a large achievement. Not anyone would risk upsetting their internal balance for freedom, especially a fragile slave boy. Strong mortal, thought Ygrashmak.

The dragon backed up while staring intently into the night time sky. With a small huff, he charged out of the hallway, through the balcony, and leaped into the air. It was rough and it was bumpy, but Ygrashmak did not care. He was silver - he would reflect light back down to the ground. It would be hard for him to hide once in the air. Speed was his greatest ally. Hopefully, Nej could hold on.

With a few powerful beats of his wings, Ygrashmak managed to get some decent altitude and catch a pleasent breeze. Guiding himself and the mortal, the dragon flew off into the night. Ygrashmak looked onto the horizon, and he could practically feel himself being by Jhovam's side within the night.

If only it was as easy as that.
