"I hope so," he said, his voice low. He didn't know what Claire could do either; if he knew that, he would have suggested it from the beginning, rather than having her jump through all the emotional hoops of story time. "I really do..."

With a sigh she reached a hand up, running her fingers through her hair thoughtfully. What could she do...? Not much, she knew that. She'd definitely need a plan of action, instead of just jumping into it head-first like last time. Ugh, she still could hardly believe that... And she'd cried. In the freaking hallway. Ugh... "I'm sure he will, don't worry," she assured him gently, rummaging through the lower cupboards before pulling out a colander to strain the pasta in. Food was a good distraction.
"Can you hold this over the sink for me?" She asked, offering him the colander, but then reconsidered when she remembered her weak arm. "Um, actually, I don't know if I could hold the pot and pour the pasta into it. Could you do that instead? I'll hold the colander." Moving the pot of water from the sink to the stove was easy enough - she didn't need to hold it away from her and twist it and pour it away from her. Arceus, why did she have to go and break her arm? Even if she hadn't, another pair of hands was helpful. It was hard to hold the colander and dump pasta into it with two hands. She would either burn herself from the pot, dump half the pasta in the sink, spill boiling water everywhere, or all of the above. She had no desire to do any of those things tonight.

He took the colander anyway, positioning it over the sink with one hand and pouring the pasta with the other. Luke himself wasn't quite sure what had inspired it - perhaps the inefficiency of using two people for a one-person job, or perhaps the distant thought that he owed Claire more favors than he would ever be able to offer. Either way, the process of straining the various noodles was well underway, and he continued to hold the draining colander over the sink as he looked to Claire for her next instruction.

"Oh, uh, thank you.." Um, okay. That worked too. It was fairly obvious that she was surprised by the gesture - it wasn't unappreciated, of course, it was just unexpected - and her mind floundered slightly as she tried to get it back on course. What was.. Oh. "Uh, once they're done draining you can put them back in the pot," she said, stepping over to turn the heat off where the noodles had been and to give an experimental stir to the sauce. It was between a simmer and a boil, or that's what it looked like, she really wasn't sure, but either way it was probably nice and warm. She turned the heat on it down a little but not all the way off, to keep it warm. What if they wanted seconds? She, for one, did not want luke-warm or cold sauce on her pasta.
Within a minute or two of searching random cupboards and drawers, she managed to procure two bowls and two forks. It was easiest, in her opinion, to eat pasta with a bowl and a fork. She put both on the counter before she began rummaging through the fridge, looking for parmesan cheese. "It's done now, so help yourself.. Where... Ah! Found it," she said as she pulled a cylindrical container full of the finely grated cheese out of the fridge. Fresh-grated would no doubt be better, but beggars can't be choosers.

He nodded and did as Claire instructed, stepping aside after and watching her adjust the sauce and retrieve bowls and silverware. At her suggestion, he moved to dish the various noodles into a bowl, dousing it with the warmed sauce and promptly moving out of the way so Claire could do the same.

She offered him the cheese before spooning out some of the multiple types of pasta into her bowl, followed by some sauce and then cheese, once Luke was done with it - if he'd used it at all. She suddenly remembered a thought she'd had about Luke on at least one, possibly two other occasions - he had the social graces of a rock. Or at least, that's what it seemed like with him being so quiet. Did she have to do all the talking?
"Table, uhh.." Table, table, who has the table? "Oh, here," she murmured, spotting one in the corner. Apparently the designers assumed most people would eat out in the cafeteria and not in the kitchen itself. Regardless, she walked over and set her bowl down, then sat down herself. She much preferred a comfortable couch instead of these - it was like sitting on a lumpy rock.

He accepted the Parmesan, giving it a couple shakes over his pasta, and returned it to Claire for her use. He mixed the cheese into the sauce idly, abandoning the task when his company made motions towards an isolated table. He joined her there, seating himself with little regard to the uncomfortable chairs. Deliberately, almost hesitantly, he twirled the fork in the pasta and extracted a bite. It was good, as expected. Unfortunately, social graces of a rock was a proper evaluation of Luke's conversation skills, and he would likely go the whole meal without saying a word if Claire allowed it.

Claire would most certainly not allow Luke to remain silent throughout the whole meal, but she allowed herself a few quiet bites of pasta first. Arceus, she was hungry...
Crap, now she had to think of something to talk about, something that wouldn't or absolutely could not relate to Liselle, but what? Hmm.. "Hey Luke," she frowned, twirling her fork around in her saucy pasta mixture, "Lucas mentioned 'friends' before in the plural sense, but I've only ever heard about his partner, and that was from you. Who else was there?" 'Friend' meant 'not girlfriend.' Or at least, it did tonight, so therefore Liselle was excluded. Ha!

He enjoyed the pensive silence while it lasted, turning his eyes from the meal to Claire when she suddenly spoke. "Besides Morrison, there was Elisa," he answered, resting the handle of the fork against the side of the bowl momentarily. "She was a member of the weapons technology subdepartment, so she collaborated with Lucas and Morrison on a regular basis." For as long as he had been acquainted with Elisa - even indirectly - he could have delivered what was essentially a massive rambling description, but he instead decided to spare Claire from hearing things she didn't care to know and waited for specific questions.

Elisa? Hm, the name didn't ring any bells, but she put it to memory regardless. There was no telling when it might be brought up again, in any case. "Did you ever talk to her?" She asked once he was done, still feeling bad for talking mostly about Lucas but she had no idea what else he would talk about. His only interests seemed to be protecting Lucas or shooting faces. "What was she like?"

"Infrequently. I gave her mission reports from time to time so that she could tailor more effective weapons, but to the best of my knowledge she was never aware of any difference between Lucas and myself." Well, not apart from the initial odd look or two, anyway. It was equally likely that Morrison had told her some time in private and she was simply less prying than others. He hummed thoughtfully before answering her second question, "She was diligent and hard-working, if not a bit stubborn, but also deeply kind. She was a good friend to Lucas."

She nodded while he spoke, twirling her fork around in her pasta before taking another bite. It was quite good - not amazing by any means, she'd need to go to some sort of fancy-shmancy Italian restaurant for excellent pasta - but she was hungry so it didn't matter anyway, even if it was horrible. Thankfully it wasn't. "Mm? I guess, depending on the conversation, it wouldn't be easy to see the difference." She could think of at least a few occasions where, if she didn't know any better, she'd have thought one was the other.
"So all three were friends?" That was nice, it was always good to have a few really good fri--wait. Wait. Her brows knit together as she thought, tapping her fork lightly into the bowl. "What happened after Morrison..?"

He nodded, having another couple of bites of his own meal before directing his attention to Claire's words. His eyes narrowed slightly at the thought. "When Lucas returned without Morrison, she stopped speaking to him, even when he approached her directly. A while passed like that, and then she transferred. Never said why nor where. Rumors cropped up fairly quickly that he had killed Morrison, and Lucas felt that Elisa's cold shoulder was a result of that, that she was afraid of him or disgusted with him. He still feels that way." And it was best if he felt that way forever. Luke had only speculation, but his own feelings toward the incident pointed to something much more grim. "She had always been there for him. Her sudden distance and disappearance were wounding." A quiet sigh passed his lips as he idly twirled his fork in the pasta.

She had another few bites of pasta while he spoke, narrowing her eyes a bit at his words. No wonder Lucas didn't want to trust anyone anymore. First his girlfriends and then his two close friends disappear at the same time? Arceus, poor guy... And how long ago was this? Luke had said something at some point about it being years ago, and she remembered that she would only have been about 12.. Ten years? Man... "Has he been like this the whole time, ever since then? Putting on a happy face for everyone else?" That was terrible..
"Do you know why she transferred?" She asked after a pause, though she was fairly certain he knew the same thing that Lucas did. Maybe he had different thoughts on the matter though.. Her gaze moved to the bowl in front of her, noticing that not very much was left. The conversation had pretty much ruined what little appetite she had left. Of course, stuffing herself full of pasta was dampening her appetite too.

Luke nodded. "He had to - or at least, he felt he had to. He was still an elite, and he was expected to perform up to par. He keeps a friendly expression for speaking with others, no matter the expression he wishes to wear." Ten years was a terribly long time to hide within oneself, and this concern was what had driven the alter-ego to make his request in the parking garage. He wasn't sure exactly how much progress had been made on that front, but part of him wanted to trust that Claire would continue to move forward. It was an odd feeling.
"No, I don't know the exact reason. I... have a theory, though." It was a theory that he hesitated to voice out of a profound fear that it was true. He pushed the remaining pasta around in the bottom of the bowl, his features slightly disquieted. "I worry that she did betray Lucas. Lucas and Morrison both."
