Ryul's arms dropped when she jumped out of them. He let them float on the water for a moment until she started walking away. She wanted him to forget all of this? Not likely. He couldn't let her leave. His hand reached out and grabbed her arm, stopping her from getting too far. He pulled her back to him, turning her around so that she was facing him. Without hesitating, he pulled her close and leaned in until their lips met. He half expected her to counter with a slap to the face. The hand that had pulled her back moved up her arm to sit on the curve of her neck. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he realized that if she didn't like him, this would ruin their friendship. There was no turning back now. If it turned out that she didn't like him, then things wouldn't be quite the same between them. He hoped that this wouldn't turn out for the worst. He was hardly aware of these thoughts. The greater majority of his focus was on the feel of her lips on his.

I've flown a million miles just to find a magic seed
A white flower with the power to bring life to me
You're so exotic my whole body fluttering
Constantly craving for a taste of your sticky sweet

Melina Nadine Larkspur

User Image Lina definitely hadn't been expecting his hand to grab her arm as she turned to leave. It made her heart leap inside her chest. Of course, she could be getting ahead of herself. Maybe he was just going to tell her not to feel bad for what she said, and he'd forget it like she wanted. However, when she was pulled back and turned around to face him. She sensed something different was going to happen than that.

Next thing she knew, Ryul had gently placed his lips on hers. He was kissing her! What did this mean? He liked her? Possibly. Well, it was more than a possibility because he was kissing her! She still couldn't get over that fact. Lina kissed him back, after her mental shock had worn off. She got goosebumps as his hand moved up and cupped her neck. In response, her arms wrapped around his neck instinctively, one hand winding into his hair.

Four years. Four years she had been waiting for something like this to happen, possibly. Even though she pushed her feelings for him aside ages ago, they were still there. Still hopeful. Her heart was beating fast, like a hummingbird's. It was something that she wouldn't try and quiet, no matter what. Lina still couldn't believe what was happening. Although, she'd enjoy it all the same, and never forget it.

Ryul was shocked and pleased that she didn't retaliate with a slap to the face. He smiled into the kiss. He felt her arms wrap around his neck. He felt fingers twist in his hair. The hand that wasn't on her neck traveled down to her lower back and pulled her body closer to his. He left his hand on the small of her back. His worries seemed to vanish. She'd kissed him back. Did that mean that she liked him? A thought crossed his mind and he froze. He pulled away, resting his forehead against hers. His eyes were closed as he thought about his sudden realization. If this ended badly, she'd never talk to him again. He didn't want that to happen. He couldn't let that happen. He opened his eyes to look at her, a faint smile playing at his lips.

User Image Lina definitely blushed as his other hand traveled down to the small of her back, pulling her closer to him. She enjoyed it, surprisingly. Though, to be honest, she'd never thought he'd kiss her. That alone was a feat in itself. Ryul had always been seen by most as cold and distant. Even Lina herself knew he could be that way, but not at all times. Would this be just a one time thing? It was a possibility.

However, she hoped against that outcome as he pulled his lips from hers. She sighed lightly, almost in disappointment that his lips were no longer on hers. She opened her eyes to look at him, seeing a faint smile on his face. That was a good thing, right? Maybe not. She bit her lip before removing one arm that was around his neck. The next moment, her hand came in contact with his face, a smack. Stupid thing to do, Lina. Or was it? "That was for taking too long..." She said with her usual playful smirk.

It wasn't like she smacked him hard. Just strong enough to get his attention. "Making me look like a fool like that..." She added, the same teasing look on her face. She wrapped her arm back around his neck and rested her head on his chest, almost hugging herself to him. "Sorry for smacking you..." She mumbled, really feeling bad for it now.

Ryul hadn't been expecting this slap. He'd expected her to slap him when he first kissed her, not after he broke it off. He pulled back a bit. When she explained why, he couldn't help but chuckle a bit. He pulled his hand of her neck and rubbed his jaw, as if it had hurt. "Did you have to hit so hard?" he asked teasingly. When she wrapped her hand back around his neck he moved his hand to join his other hand on the small of her back. "I'm sorry," he said. He meant it too. He hadn't known that she'd had any feelings for him. Her comment about taking so long made him think that she'd liked him at least a little bit for a while. His arms tightened around her when she half hugged herself to him. When she apologized for smacking him, he smiled slightly. "I suppose I deserved that," he said. He moved a hand to her chin and gently tilted her head up enough to kiss her lips again.

Jack smiled and ruffled Mit's head at the complement. "Thanks Mit. It's good to know I have someone that cares."
He grabbed Mit's hand again and carried her gun with them, and lead them down the alley as the steam began to rise. "Hold tight, it's easy to get lost here. There's alot of ladders around here, but I have a trick to tell which one leads back to my house."
As they headed into the steam, he took a glance down. Always looked down, then listen to sounds around him. It's bound to strike soon.
Alas, Jack was right, as he heard a small bell ring in the distance a second before a hiss of steam shot out from his left. He timed a bell in his home to always let out a ding right before any steams shots in this area. He must listen real hard for it, because the steams will cover the noise of the bell.
Jack walked quickly, and touched the ladder leading to his home, and lead Mit towards it. "Go up. Key is under the plant. I'll be right there."'

Mit readjusted her goggles and grinned when Jack ruffled her short, choppy hair. "Yeah, well same to you. It's not like anyone gives two prunes about me anymore... except for those stupid tracker robots. I think my parents only want me back to say that their technology found me." she mumbled. She let Jack lead her through the alleyway, taking note of the myriad of ladders and passageways that characterized the architecture of the Upper Tier. She smiled. Of course Jack would have a trick for finding his home in this winding darkness.
She nodded when he told her where the key was, and quickly darted up the ladder. True, she was showing off a little, but only to prove that she wasn't the weak little know-nothing from a few months ago. Once at the top, she looked around and saw a little fern standing by a doorway. She lifted it up and saw a tiny brass key hidden underneath the saucer. She grabbed it, sliding it into the lock and slipping inside the apartment, making sure to close the door behind her before looking around.

User Image Lina rolled her eyes at him. He was teasing her, but she smiled nonetheless. The whole slap thing actually went over well, surprisingly. It was weird. Lina couldn't remember when she had blushed so much. For she did so again when he wrapped his other arm around her lower back.

More so when he apologized. So, that meant he might have actually felt the same way before and had been quiet about his feelings. Well, it was in his nature to do that, so he didn't have to apologize. "Don't be sorry..." Lina said in response, softly, and he hugged her closer. The whole scene was surreal.

He was agreeing that he deserved the slap? Definitely unexpected. He was just surprising her left and right. Like the next moment. She felt his hand on her chin again. This time he'd better not splash her. Oh. He tilted her head up and placed his lips on hers again. Lina smiled, threading one hand back into his hair. He had kissed her again! Boy, there her heart was going at ninety miles an hour again. Her eyes had closed on instinct, but the rest of her seemed to follow her instinct's too.

Lina gently let her teeth graze his bottom lip, waiting to see the reaction. Her free hand slid down from it's perch around his neck and came to rest around his collarbone, debating whether or not it should go down further. Wait. No. Lina pulled away. "Sorry.....I don't need to get ahead of myself..." She stated, looking up at him sheepishly with fully flushed cheeks.

He felt her teeth graze his lip and he did his best to suppress a shudder. He felt her hand move from his neck to his collarbone. It didn't last long. She pulled back after a moment. She said something about not getting ahead of herself. "First off, why shouldn't I be sorry? I made you wait. And second, get ahead of yourself how?" he asked, curious. He saw her blushing and smiled. His hand moved her her cheek, where he rested his fingers on her cheek. He could feel the warmth of the blood that had collected under the skin there. "You know, it's hardly fair how cute you are when you blush," he said, smirking. He guessed that saying that would get her to blush again. He left his fingers on her cheek. He liked to spend a lot of time in the sun. The sun was his energizer, so to speak. He got his energy from the sun. If he sat in the sun for an hour, he could go two hours without sun. If he stayed in the sun all day, he could go two days without sun. On the contrary, however, if he stayed out of the sun for a day or two, it would be hard for him to do anything. He kept that fact about him secret from everyone. Only Lina knew that he needed the sun to survive.

User Image Lina bit her lip. He had to ask that, right? Make her blush even more. "You shouldn't be sorry because you didn't know..." She responded to the first question simply and quickly because it was easier to answer. While she was thinking of how to respond to the second question, he brought his hand up to her cheek, and commented on her blush.

Of course her cheeks flamed up. However, she suspected he was wanting that reaction. "What else could I mean by getting ahead of myself, Ryul?" She stated, not really wanting to explain. She didn't want to rush things between the two of them. If they burned out too quickly, it would be over. Then things would be awkward. Lina didn't want that.

She let the sun warm her skin back up from swimming. Well, the top half of her at least. She was still nearly waist deep in water. She was finding that she was glad that she had decided to escape her greenhouse for awhile. Oh. Her greenhouse. She should probably get back. "My greenhouse..." she said, starting to pull away from him.

However, before she got too far, she turned back around and pulled his head down to hers, kissing him quickly. "I've gotta go..." She said after she pulled away. "You know where to find me!" She said with a bright smile as she made her way to shore. Once her feet were on dry land, she hurried up to the rock and grabbed her clothing, and picked up her shoes before petting Kowe on top of the head. Once that was all done, she waved back at Ryul, sure as ever there was still a blush on her cheeks, and then ran back through the woods back to her little retreat. Her beloved greenhouse.

She had had to get back in a hurry to make sure that the plants were watered. She had to hand water everything, not too much, or too little, and on a set schedule. Lina felt bad about leaving him all of a sudden, but it was something she had to do.

As she grabbed the watering can, she realized how much being out in the sun had benefited her. She felt energized and healthier. Her body had reacted like the plants she so cherished. It made food and helped her function. She could go without the sun if she wanted, but she would never choose it. Much like how Ryul needed the sun to live, so did she.

Ryul couldn't help but smile at her explanation of "getting ahead of herself". She had a point though. Go too fast like that and it would end rather quickly. He knew she didn't want that to happen, and to be honest, neither did he. He was surprised when she suddenly pulled out of his arms. Before leaving though, she turned back to kiss him again. Then she was making her way back to shore before he could stop her. She was going back to her greenhouse. He sighed and let his arms fall to his side. He should have known she'd take off at some point. His arms felt rather empty now that she was gone. He slowly made his way back to shore. When he got to the grass, he stopped and laid down. He remembered the cuts that Lina had pointed out and he looked down at them. They were swelling slightly, which tended to happen whenever he got a cut. He brushed it off, not worried and laid his head in the grass. He put his hands behind his head and closed his eyes, letting the sun warm him and dry him off. Kowe got up and walked over to lay by him. Ryul was lost in his thoughts of what had just happened.

User Image Lina had been going from row to row, plant to plant, in her greenhouse. Watering them just the right amount. Right now she was working on more tropical plants. So, the air in the greenhouse was hot and humid. She didn't bother changing out of her water soaked clothing. It was actually comfortable in the climate she was in at the time.

She thought while she worked. It was easier to do with a clear head. Well, clearer since she wasn't with Ryul. There were still the perfumes from the tropical plants wafting through the greenhouse. Those in themselves were distracting. There were plenty of hybrids that she had created spread amongst those she hadn't experimented with yet.

Like she had said earlier. She had waited a long time for that to happen. She wasn't entirely sure if it ever would. Now that it had, she didn't know exactly what to do. She never thought she'd get to this point. Lina took a ribbon from her work bench and tied up her hair. It was drying somewhat and sticking to her skin. Quite annoying. With that taken care of, she resumed watering the hundred plus plants she was raising.

It was something she tended to zone out while doing. Lina began humming some random tune as she went in her rounds, examining each plant that she thought might be a bit off. Those that were too sickly, she pulled and sat on a section all their own. She'd nurse them back to health after she was done watering the rest.

Ryul sat up a half hour later. He'd accidentally fallen asleep. He rubbed his eyes and got to his feet. He walked over to the rock that held his stuff. After getting dressed, he slung his bow and quiver on his back and put his sword belt back on. He looked at Kowe, who'd also fallen asleep. He walked over to the wolf and nudged him with his foot. "Come on you lazy wolf, get up," he said. All traces of joking were gone. He was back to the serious, short-tempered man that he usually was when Lina wasn't around. The wolf got up and stretched with a wide yawn. Ryul had already started walking away, leaving Kowe to run to catch up with him. They walked through the trees until they came to the hill they'd been on when Lina had first showed up. Ryul stopped for a moment on the crest and looked around. He had his hands in his pockets. The greenhouse that Lina spent so much time in was on the edge of town, right between the town and the forest that surrounded it. Ryul sighed and made his way down the hill and into the forest.

User Image Lina had finally finished making the rounds of watering her plants after about twenty minutes. Once that was accomplished, she took the sickly plants over to her workbench. She had to figure out why the small handful of greens weren't thriving like everything else in her greenhouse. It saddened her slightly to know she wasn't doing her best to keep them healthy all the time.

There was one Brunfelsia floribunda dwarf plant that had wilted like it just didn't have the will to live anymore. It should have purple and white flowers by now. She never over watered, or kept them out of the sunlight they needed. Maybe it was just a bad seed. Lina sat there, contemplating what she should try and do with the sickly plant. "Are you a sickly little plant, or are you just stubborn?" She stated aloud. Yes, sometimes Lina talked to her plants. It was just something she did.

"What is it you want? What is it you need?" She mused. Looking at the plant intently. Her elbow was resting on her workbench, head resting in her hand. As far as she could tell, she hadn't messed up anything. Hadn't forgotten anything, and she hated to see a plant die. So, she couldn't just throw it out because it didn't want to grow.

She tested the soil around the small plant to see if it was too damp or too dry. No. It was perfect. Lina examined it, looking for any sign of disease. Nothing. Now, she didn't really fertilize her plants. She liked to grow them on pure talent alone. However, on the rare occasion that she'd get a stubborn seed, she'd give the frustrating plant a drop of her secret formula fertilizer. And that was what she was going to do..

As he walked, Ryul noticed that the fabric of his shirt had started to snag on his still open wounds. He let out a small growl. When he looked down at his shirt, he noticed that the wounds had started to bleed again. "Thanks Kowe," he said, somewhat bitterly. There wasn't much he could do about the shirt now. He'd get rid of it once he had the wounds taken care of. He remembered Lina's offer to put some salve on it. He decided to take her up on that offer, thinking it would at the very least stop the bleeding. He altered his path through the trees, heading for the greenhouse. Several minutes later, he could see it through the trees. When he got there, he tapped on the door before opening it. His eyes sought out Lina and he found her sitting at her workbench with a few plants. "Knock knock," he said with a slight smile.
