It took Claire a moment to forcibly swallow her bite of shrimp cocktail before glowering at Leonard for his idiocy. Her hand found his upper arm and locked it into a vice-like grip before she leaned close to his ear. "What were you thinking? Do you have a death wish or something?!" She hissed in a whisper before letting go of his arm - more pushing it from her in a disgusted fashion than anything else, completely incredulous that he would say such a thing. Hadn't he garnered even the tiniest shred of knowledge in regards to Odette's character for the five minutes he'd seen her in here? Didn't it ever occur to him that such a vain creature, who had spent the entire time so far trying to get the attention of anyone in the room, would react negatively to such a statement, mission or not? With an incredibly irritated huff she began searching under the folds of the outer layer of her skirt for the bird's pokeball. Why did dresses have to be so difficult?! "She is an even bigger show-off, I can assure you, and does not take kindly to personal insults or challenges," she explained to the Staraptor's owner.
And indeed, the golden bird did not seem to be taking it well at all. Her feathers remained where they were, though now her crest was starting to puff up as well in an effort to intimidate the other bird. He had a zero-percent chance of intimidating her and even less a chance to impress her, so the only option was to intimidate him until he backed down, because there was no way in hell that she would be the one to give in.
She remained rooted to the spot but continued to fan out her wings, making sure to keep her venomous glare on the other bird at all times, and slowly turning in place when need be. A similar trill was loosed from her beak, though it was more of a warning than anything else. Tournament? Ha! She didn't need some superfluous, ridiculous tournament as a false crutch to bolster her ego. The word almost seemed to inflate her more as she perceived the other bird to be that much less - he relied on silly games to show off and gain appreciation and recognition. Odette simply needed to exist. And look drop dead gorgeous, of course.

"Oh my goodness! Who is this little miss?" It was another boisterous exclamation in tones that could clean glass. With a "Do excuse me, dears," The woman swooped forward on a target - but it wasn't Revenant. Instead she was making a beeline for the man who had just entered - dark-skinned, with unruly tendrils escaping from forcefully swept-back hair. A similarly tanned brunette woman would have been holding his arm, save that they were occupied with a sweet-looking little girl in a frilly dress and mary janes, clinging to the lapel of his suit and looking around with wide eyes.
"Do enjoy yourselves, darlings!" her voice echoed back, a melodious foghorn in the night as her walk took on a distinct sashay. That woman could schmooze.

The grunt gave a weak half smile at Sorano's words, knowing how true his words were, but she didn't state this, she simply nodded in agreement.
So they were on the look out for gossiping rumor spreaders and -true- wealth, the kind that didn't need to puff themselves up.
"We should split up for a time, make a round and try and see if there is anything or anyone worth approaching before meeting back up." she looked over to him.
"Does that sounds okay to you Sir?"

Nyx flushed slightly when Mau leaned in close to whisper into her ear. She would be glad when the night was done and she could go back to ignoring him, because obviously time was not going to fix these strange symptoms she'd been experiencing.
Mau's dance partner was at a slight disadvantage, as she hadn't really waltzed before, but luckily made up for it with her ability to move her feet and not trip over herself or Mau. Nyx found it surprisingly easy to let Mau lead the waltz, and soon she didn't seem quite so uncertain.
After a few minutes, the thunderbolt pokemon's attention dropped from the lights to the dance floor. What were those people doing? It looked like so much fun, he had to join in! "Bwuduwuu!" The pokemon cheered joyfully and started to dance with himself, crudely imitating the human dancer's steps.

Panther spotted the look and smiled politely. "May I introduce my associate Tiffany Brooks, and I am Kato Wilbanks." he bowed to her. "That ninetails of yours is superb, and her coat shines ever so brightly." he saw her nervousness and pulled away from Cal a little. "I was wondering... if you would allow me this dance?" he felt a little awkward asking, but attempted to keep it out of his voice.
The gengar looked at the ninetails and bowed a little, staying by Panther.

"A'righty."
He gave her a deft salute and broke away, tugging his Wigglytuff with him. "Signal ta me if ya 'ear anehthing good. I'll do tha same."
With that, Sorano made his way off. Of course, there was only one place he thought of heading and that was the wherever food was. He was hungry as hello goodbye and could not wait for the main feast to begin.

The very instant Faleen was alone a short sweaty man with red hair stuck to his shiny forehead approached the female rocket looking nervous. Though obviously meek and not very good at these kinds of social gatherings, the man's suit indicated that like the others in attendance, he had money to spare.
Beside him a sleek black persian groomed its paw.
"E-excuse me m-miss." He stammered. "P-perhaps you'd like to dance?"

Staraptor itself had an impressive crest, and Ace's raised and puffed, fanning out like a broad-brimmed hat. His beak was open as he bobbed his head at Odette once, twice, and high-stepped to the side, kicking his feet out like a line dancer. "Starraaa!"
"Trade secret," the man gestured with an eggroll and a wink before attention turned to his bird. "Ace! Knock it off; the lady's not interested."
Ace's crest deflated and he ruffled his wings, beginning to preen himself as he promptly ignored everyone.
"He's a little.. pent-up," their target explained, with a sideways shrug. "Not a lot of bird Pokemon where we've been traveling; it's got him a little frustrated."

Mau's face wasn't quite a smile, but it was a warm expression. Nyx was easy to lead. She had good control over her gown and feet. They moved about the dance floor with the best of the dancers.
Ran, watching her human dance with some girl ruffled Ran's feathers some, but the irritation at that other human was suppressed by watching Darwin. What WAS that silly pokemon doing? ... It kind of looked like fun. Ran hopped over to Nyx's pokemon. "Pigot?" She tilted her head to one side than the other before hopping to the left then the right trying to match Darwin's strange movements.

She smiled, and stopped walking, folding her hands in front of her as she bowed her head and watched Sorano head off in one direction.
They had a plan.
Looking down at Umbreon as he stood next to her, ears perked.
The night was still very young, and it wouldn't take long for the consumption of alcohol to loosen the lips of the rich, making them bold and eager to spread rumors under the fine table clothes.
For now, she had to wait, and lay bait.
"Come Umbreon" she spoke, making her way to another part of the room, opposite from Sorano, smiling pleasantly.
It wasn't long before she was actually approached by someone, she sight of him caused her to halt, blinking at his nervous demeanor.
She looked next to him, to see a dark black pokemon, a kind she was sure wasn't supposed to be that color... it was worth a look.
she... really didn't want to, something told her his hands were clammy, good thing she had gloves. so with a smile she held her hand softly out
"I would"

"Oh, this is--" Revenant deflated as Aila was cut off from her introduction. She frowned slightly as their target excused herself and proceeded elsewhere. The girl watched as she went with a mental shrug. The party was full of perfect targets, and it surely wouldn't be long before they oh Arceus that was him. Aila's eyes locked on the man when she noticed him, small hand raising instinctively to her mouth to stifle her gasp. She disguised the gesture with a subtle redirection of her hand to her hair where she smoothed a few loose strands into a neater shape. She regained her composure quickly; they were still on a mission, and this was no time to lose her edge.
"Let's go over there," she suggested, gesturing towards the recent entry. "Not for long. I promise." Just long enough to get just close enough to get just a slightly better look at him, and maybe eavesdrop a little while she was at it. After all, she reasoned as she and Liam started towards him, she would need to keep an eye on him throughout the party, and who knew what valuable information she could gather towards that end by listening in a little early on?

"Oh.. thank you." The young woman flushed slightly, lighting up her skin against her jewels, and ducked her head bashfully. "It's very nice to.. meet you both." She extended a hand with the thoughtlessly graceful motion of one who has done it all her life, however slightly hesitant. "Serena Astor. And this is Vulpes."
"Nine," the fox Pokemon sneered, flicking three of its tails.
The dance request seemed to take Serena by delighted surprise. "O-oh! But-" Her gaze darted to Cal quickly, and then some part of her firmly decided 'no, that has to be his sister or something.' "Yes." She flushed again. "That would be lovely. Vulpes, ah.. stay here please."

"You're the one that's supposed to keep her under control!" He hissed back. "How are we going to talk to anyone without the bird's stupid pride getting in the way?"
Leonard turned his gaze again as the man started to speak. He pretended that he was only leaning over towards Claire to take a glass of water from a passing-by server.
"It's lucky that you're here then, in the Kodo region." He said, nodding slightly. "There are a lot of bird Pokemon here... though the wild Pokemon can't compare to Odette."
That should appease the vain bird. He took a sip of water and almost spat it out. Instead he forced himself to cough it down. That wasn't water...!

Nyx seemed to relax a bit, after enough twirling, and even managed to let herself smile up at Mau. Their dance may have been all business, but she seemed to be enjoying herself.
The 'mew turned electivire' stopped briefly to watch the bird pokemon hop about, then reached out its hands, mimicking the way Mau had asked Nyx to dance. "Bwuduwuu~"
